Hypothyroidism Congenital :: Born Without A Thyroid

I am a normal, healthy 28 year old with a beautiful 8 month old daughter - I was born without a thyroid (picked up on the heel prick test introduced in Wales 82) and have been monitored all my life and also have been on different dosages of thyroxine throughout my life so far! My daughter is absolutely perfect and has thankfully not got CH. I was fine at school (a bit of a daydreamer and a bit forgetful) but I still came out the other side with 11 GCSE's, 3 A-levels and a degree! We are no different to any one else, as long as we are on the right dosage and judging by the way that I've been monitored, this shouldn't ever be a huge issue!

Has A Gluten-free Lifestyle Helped Your Health?

I wondered if anyone here has become healthier following a gluten-free diet.

I am 35 and female. I am diagnosed Type 1 diabetes, have psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis, & Hashimoto thyroiditis (Hashi not treated prior to now). Recently, my TSH came back at 9.2 and my thyroid antibodies 213. I was then placed on Levothyroxin 25mcg and in six weeks my TSH is now at 3.70, so it appears I am responding pretty well to treatment.

A genetics test a few years ago indicated I am at high risk for developing celiac disease. Since then I have went gluten-free for short amounts of time and always felt better and digestive issues solved, but finding gluten-free food in my rural area is difficult and I tend to lapse on the diet.

However, I have been gluten-free now for 5 days and feeling somewhat better already. I intend to make this a lifestyle change for good this time.
I guess my real question to persons here is, has following a strict gluten-free diet greatly improved your autoimmune illnesses?

Lifestyle And Diet Effects On Atrial Fibrillation / Flutter

I had AF for 2 years and 2 months before having a pulmonary vein ablation. I have always, when commenting on here stated my age, my lifestyle and about my diet. I notice that a lot of people here do not comment on these issues, so therefore others cannot make comparisons with their stories.

Maybe if people discuss more about these things, we could help one another, with comparisons. When we see cardiologists, they only look at our particular case and do not compare one person with another. Just a thought, maybe if we commented more on whether we have other underlying health problems that could contribute to AF., and whether our lifestyles and eating habits could be a contributing factor, we may better start to understand similar comparisons to one another's experiences with

Atrial Fibrillation / Flutter :: Can I Still Drink Alcohol? Lifestyle?

After experiencing some palpitations and breathlessness over the past week or so I went to see my GP. I had an ECG, was sent to A&E, admitted to hospital for further tests and diagnosed with AF. My heart rate was not particular fast.

I'm still in AF and have been given Bisoprolol to control my heart rate. I've had problems with palpitations and chest achiness for the past 2 years and have had numerous ECGs which have always been normal so this is a bit of a shock. I'm a bit confused as to what happens now really. I have got an apt with a consultant coming up, but does this mean my life style will have to change? How can I get back to normal heart rhythm? Can I still drink alcohol?  I don’t drink a lot but enjoy a couple of glasses at the weekends and have some birthday parties coming up. Also, what about exercise? A month ago I was training for a charity cycle ride and was riding 20-25 miles a time. Where does this leave me?  Since taking the Bisoprolol I have been getting headaches – will they subside in time?

Bisoprolol :: Libido Has Gone From 50% To Zero

Bisoprolol :: Safe To Exercise ?

After a mild episode of unstable angina I had a single stent inserted in 2010. Since then I take the usual quartet of ramipril (2.5 mg), bisoprolol (2.5 mg), aspirin and simvastatin. I started Phase 4 rehab in January 2011 and now go to the Gym 2/3 times a week. The man aerobic component is a 20 minute row. I was advised not to allow my heart rate to exceed 75% of [220 -73 (my age) -30 = ] 97 but as I became fitter the average HR during rowing is 105 and the peak 111-113.

I feel fine, have never experienced any cardiac symptoms and the HR drops below 80 within 60 secs of stopping.

Am I taking a big risk? If not are there guidelines on HR during exercise for people like me?

I also have Parkinson's (no tremor) and exercise is very helpful in maintaining lung function and muscular tone so I have two reasons for exercising!

Bisoprolol :: Too Tired With Adalat And Ramipril

I take Bisoprolol as part of a cocktail to reduce my blood pressure. I also take 40 mg Adalat and 10 mg Ramipril each day. I have been taking this medication for around two years now and whilst my blood pressure has been reduced I feel so so tired. I have always been healthy and energetic, I've never experienced this feeling of tiredness. I have gained weight, my hands and ankles swell up. I'm going back to my doctor to have my medication re-evaluated...

Bisoprolol :: Tired With Tickly Cough

I have been on this drug (5 mg/day) since having an M.I. on Jan 2nd 2007.

I have developed a tickly cough that stops me getting to sleep at nights, my metabolism is in my boots and I have put on over 56lbs in weight.

I feel slow and lethargic all the time.

I spoke to my GP at my yearly review this week and told him I don't want to take this drug anymore. He said he can't recommend i stop taking it as it is "protecting" my heart.

I never had a BP problem before my Angina attack and the M.I. always being 128/78 all my life.

So, I have decided to stop taking both the bisoprolol and the ramipril and monitor my BP 3 times a day.

I think doctors are too scared about getting it wrong to try any alternatives.

Bisoprolol :: Slow Heart Rate

I have been on 1.25mg of bisoprolol for nearly a year now. I was put on it due to an irregular heartbeat. my heart would either miss a beat or totally go into overdrive. The doctor never sent me for further tests. So my question is what causes this problem.  My heart still jumps about but not as much. but sometimes when I do a little exercise I feel very odd for example can't lay on my left side because it hurts around my heart plus my chest can feel tight and today my heart rate is 52 where normally its in its 80's.

Unstable Angina From TAKING Bisoprolol

I am 56 on statins and aspirin for cholesterol. ~2 months ago I got tinnitus out of the blue, thought it was hypertension, so I bought a heart monitor and found out that in fact, to my surprise, my blood pressure was 170+/90. Went to the doctor and he put me on Bisoprolol, first month 2.5mg/day (no change in blood pressure), last 30 days 5mg. My blood pressure has now lowered to 140/70 so I should be quite happy BUT 1, 2 and 3 weeks ago I got three scary episodes, waking up in the middle of the night with a feeling of severe tightness in my chest, very bad cold sweats etc. Back to the doc he thinks it's unstable angina and scared the &***!? out of me and that I should have called 999 etc. He's referred me to a cardiologist next week. My question is, since I've never had angina or heart problems in my life, could it be that Bisoprolol itself is causing these episodes and it is not angina at all? I know it is prescribed FOR angina but I also see it has a huge list of side effects.

Bisoprolol :: Still Taking - Tired And Weight Gain?

After comments I read on here I went to my Doctor (I live in Spain) and asked why I was actually taking Bisoprolol, i have been taking 2.5 mg a day since Dec 2012, I had a stroke in November 2011, I take statins and sintrome *spanish warfrin*  The only reason he gave me bisoprolol is because I told him I was slightly breathless walking up hills, I do not have high blood pressure but I do have a slight irregular heart beat........which may have caused my stroke.........they are not sure........I used to smoke and drink however which also did not help!

If I needed the Bisoprolol, why did the consultant not give it to me in 2011? when I asked the Dr he said it is to prevent another stroke, not to cure anything but I should continue taking.it.......I have not felt any advantage taking the drug and like many people on here feel more tired and have gained weight as I have little energy to do anything. Not sure what to do really, I am frightened to stop taking it, so going to try taking in the evenings and see if less tired.

Bisoprolol :: Atrial Fibrillation And Extremely Tired

Was prescribed 5mg bisoprolol 5 days ago after admission to hospital with atrial fibrillation. It seems to be working in terms of getting the pulse under control, but I have been suffering really debilitating tiredness, to the point where I sometimes barely have the energy to walk from one room to another. The medics at the hospital told me that if I got "short of breath" then I should go back into hospital, but it isn't so much shortness of breath as feeling completely leaden, especially walking up stairs.

Something I don't understand is whether this is the effect of the drug, or the result of the underlying condition, ie that my heart has been working very inefficiently. (Why doesn't anybody tell us these things?). Degree of tiredness also seems to be influenced by things such as whether I have just slept or eaten, time of day, and anxiety/stress levels!

Does anyone else have any experiences they can share about this?

Bisoprolol :: Coming Off And Extremely Tired, Have Headaches

I am new to this forum and really would welcome some advice..

In February following a period of sudden very high blood pressure I was put on Amlopidine 5mg and Bisoprolol 2.5mg. I had a few headaches, felt tired but my blood pressure and pulse reduced and was consistently at 128/72 and 66.

My gp suggested me reduce my bisoprolol to 1.25mg and as my blood pressure and pulse stayed pretty much the same has now suggested I stop taking the bisoprolol. I am now on day 3 of this and do not feel great. I am extremely tired, have headaches and although my blood pressure is slightly increased 132/80 pulse 76 I am concerned how I feel. I have also read that side effects can be serious.
