Vestibular Neuritis - How Long It Will Take To Recover?

I have had Vestibular Neuritis since I was 6 years old. I didn't find out I had this until I was about 17 years old. I was at first diagnosed at age 13 with having BPPV (benign paroxysmal positional vertigo), but we discovered after about two years that this was not it, when the exercises failed to work. Once I was diagnosed correctly, I attend rehabilitation therapy. I have been doing the eye-exercises they gave for about 3 years now, and even still after that much time, if I slack off the vertigo returns. My therapist did tell me that the nerve in my inner ear was damaged and that I probably have a more severe case of VN (do to how long I have had it and describing my attacks), but has anyone else been taking this long to recover as well? I am grateful that I don't have something worse than VN, but still it is annoying (especially during the fall and spring: allergies) and I am okay if I end up dealing with it the rest of my life the exercises do keep the symptoms at bay most of the time. I was just wondering if others have taken this long or longer to recover as well.

Gallbladder Removal :: How Long It Will Take To Recover?

After putting it off for ages I just can't take it anymore and have finally decided to have my gallbladder removed. I'm actually writing this lying on my knees doubled over a pillow after another attack. They are so frequent now it's ridiculous.

I'm having keyhole provided all goes to plan but am concerned about how long recovery will take as I have an 11 month old, 23 month old and 9 year old. As well as worrying about the op I'm concerned about how they'll be. Got my husband and sister to help me out but you know sometimes kids just want their mum. I know I can't lift for 2 weeks but how strict is that? And could it be longer then that? Will it hurt lifting my younger two a month or two months after?

Anyone with toddlers had the op? What was it like?

Does Pancreatitis Always Have To Become Chronic?

I just got out of the hospital yesterday - was diagnosed with acute pancreatitis. I'll be following up with my primary care doc tomorrow. They ran all sorts of tests on me during my stay, but never mentioned that this may become a chronic thing. Does pancreatitis always have to become chronic? Do many people just have this one occurrence, then never again?

Pancreatitis :: SIBO Test

My symptoms starter earlier this year when I noticed a change in my bowel habits. I was going more than normal and they were just not the same, lighter in color and less bulky. I was having wind move through my intestines that was so loud it was embarrassing. It was like it would travel to my left side, set stuck, then all of a sudden roll down. Then sometime during summer I started having this pain on my left side right around my floating ribs. I felt like if I pressed on that side it would relieve the pain. It would last a day or so and then come back every couple of weeks. Now it's almost everyday I feel the pain.

My doctor thought I had SIBO and tested me for that but it was negative. He wanted me to start probiotics which I have but the pain just scares me. My stools have seemed to go back to a more normal color.

To prepare for the SIBO test I had to eat white rice, white bread, potatoes without the skin, just a bland diet. I felt like maybe it had gotten better during that time. But I've also noticed after I eat brussel sprouts the pain is really bad. I can't say if I've noticed it worse after drinking. It seems like almost every meal makes it worse.

I'm just so scared I've done something to my pancreas. How is it determined if you have acute or chronic? I have been drinking more this summer but nothing severe. And this pain will not go away. I am going to call on Monday to schedule another appointment.

Acute Urinary Retention After Stroke

Friend had stroke end of jan. He's now having serious retention problems. Drs not sure if it is neurological or physical. He's trying to urinate every 10 mins with acute pain. If it's neurological I wouldn't have thought he was trying to void. He's had a urethral catheter in since stroke till a few weeks ago and now got a convince catheter. Problem has got increasingly worse over last few months and last week extremely worse. He's due to go into hospital on Monday if bed available for other treatment. Today though I may insist on him going down to a&e as the pain is now getting much worse. He's even on morphine for other issues and pain goes beyond this. Any thoughts?

Sciatica :: How To Cure Acute Pain?

I have been diagnosed with spinal disc herniation on L4 and L5 on my back + spondylolisthesis. I was relatively pain free for about a month until all of the sudden the pain came back a week ago, now stronger than ever. It's typical sciatica pain, shooting down pain from my right lower back all the way to the right ankle. When I sit down it helps but I literally can't walk for more than about 100metres at a time, the pain comes too much. I've already been out of work for the whole week and really can't afford more so I'm desperate for some relief.

I've been to the doctors a couple of times this week. So far they have given me: Arcoxia 90mg (tried that twice, no relief), Naproxen 500mg (no relief), Co-codamol 30/500mg (took three of these one day,no relief) and now I've taken Amitriptyline 25mg at nights. I've slept fine but it has not had any sort of an affect during the day. I haven't taken any of these together though, I mean I've just taken one medicine at a time.

If anyone has ANY idea what could help in this acute pain, I'd really appreciate it! Has anyone tried sea salt with their bath, how does that work? I've heard people have got some help of that. And next time I'm going to my GP (probably in a couple of days), any ideas what medicine I should ask for?

Chronic Pancreatitis :: Sick And Can't Eat All The Time

I suffer with chronic pancreatitis since 2007 I have really bad anxiety and depression with it, my conditions were all caused by drinking way to much alcohol. I haven't had a single drop of alcohol for 2 years yet I've been admitted in hospital 4 times in them 2 years for my chronic pancreatitis. I live in the UK and I see a professor who deals with chronic pancreatitis once a year where I have a CT scan with contrast to see how my pancreas is, so far it seems to be holding its own but recently I am becoming more nausea everyday and vomiting everyday and its stopping me from eating. If i eat a small amount of any kind of food I'm instantly bloated all the time, I do smoke but I just haven't got it in me to stop smoking like the way I stopped alcohol because Iv'e been an alcoholic since 1994. I take medication everyday, propranolol for anxiety, omeprazole for acid in the stomach, vitamin b compound, and I also take tramadol 50mg when required because of my chronic pancreatitis pains I get everyday. At night i take pizotifen for my migraines and i take mirtazapine 30mg for my depression, I do really worry about my health and recently for the last month Iv'e been constantly vomiting everyday, I'm not eating as the smallest amount of food makes me feel bloated and gives me heartburn, but most of all I just haven't got no energy at all. Can someone help please as Iv'e asked my doctor for all kinds of things but he just says its due to your chronic pancreatitis, the last four weeks my days consist of coffee and smoking and so on, I can't eat and I'm feeling sick all of the time.

Pancreatitis :: Caffeine, Coca Cola, And A Lot Of Tea Cause Pain

I was diagnosed with CP about a year ago. Since then I have quit alcohol, fatty foods, and exercising a lot. However, I noticed that although the pain had subsided, I was still getting this annoying pain from time to time. I finally got to know that coffee, coca cola, and a lot of tea during the day was causing the pain. Now I only drink one tea bag 3 times daily and the pain has gone. Hope this will help some of my friends with similar problem.on this forum.

Vasectomy :: Acute Pain In Right Testicle And In Right Abdomen

I had a vasectomy 11 days ago. I rested, stayed off my feet mostly for a few days, used ice packs, all the ordered behaviors. My incision still hasn't healed well despite wearing compression shorts for 9 days. On about day 8 I started applying antibacterial cream and breathable sterile pad taped down over the incision to prevent infection (and was also on antibiotics for a sinus infection). There was no sign of infection, no visible sign of hematoma. But the incision remains a bit raw, like a split lip that seeps. The dissolvable stitches mostly came out within 6-9 days.

However, my right teste or epididymis is extremely sore still (I felt better from day 4-8 except when sitting a lot), swollen and riding high. When I sit upright for awhile at work, I also get an acute pain in my right inguinal area about 6" in from the hip bone. It feels like a nerve issue. It twinges and throbs when I stand and today is even making walking painful.

Any thoughts? Acute epididymitis? Sperm granuloma? Nerve damage? Normal recovery? I had a single-incision closed vas with excision, clips and cauterization.

I agree with the copious comments on the web -- the urologists need to do a FAR better job with the honest assessment of recovery. I was under the impression that this would all be largely resolved within 3-4 days. Instead, the past 3 days just keep getting worse with no clear self-diagnosis. I'm calling my urologist again tomorrow and insisting on a checkup....
