Dacron Graft :: Ascending Aorta Replacement Surgery

I'm due to have my ascending aorta replaced, I think with a Dacron graft. The cardiologist and the surgeon seem to think I'll know everything I need to by Osmosis or something. I was wondering if anyone has or is going through this.

General :: Aorta Pulsating With No Aneurysm

For years I have been suffering with a pulsating stomach and ibs. That's what the doctor said it was, being that the scan I had done showed up nothing so the doctor put it down irritable bowel syndrome.

In May this year I went for an endoscopy and colonoscopy. A couple of biopsies were taken.

The results were normal, apart from a hiatus hernia and anaemia, the anaemia they put down to the fact that some time ago I was taking anti-inflammatory tablets for arthritis. On a course of iron tablets for the past three months.

Last Thursday I went for my blood test result, and I mentioned about the pulsating in my stomach. She told me t lie down on the bed while she felt my stomach. She told me that it was the aorta pulsating.

My stomach drives me nuts especially in the evening when I am Sat down.I don't know if the pulsating is due to the ibs or the hernia or both.

Diagnosed With Thoracic Aorta Aneurysm

My younger sister aged 50 was diagnosed with TAA of 5.1 cm in January and operated in February due to her small frame. She is recovering well which is encouraging. I have been meaning to go and have a check myself but kept putting it off. I went to my GP 2 weeks ago and he immediately picked up a murmur. Echo followed by a CT scan confirmed I also have an aneurysm but mine is still at 4.27 and I am 55 years old. Clearly we have a genetic disposition but mine is growing more slowly (so far) . I am in shock and still cannot get my head round it. I am fit, practise yoga, follow mainly  a vegetarian diet, don't smoke, hardly drink and do not have high blood pressure. I am now now in 'watchful waiting' and will have another CT scan in 6 months time.  I have been advised to take Beta Blockers and was wondering how patients react to them. I have a professional job in sales and need to keep my energy up. I have off course been considering giving up work but sitting at home waiting for my aneurysm to grow will not help me. I would also like to know if aneurysms always grow and if I need to accept that mine will be bigger by the time I have my next CT?

Aortic Aneurysm :: Enlarged Aorta

My 21 year old brother was at the heart doctor today, they told him he had an enlarged aorta. When he was 5 he had open heart surgery for a hole in his heart. Today was supposed to be just a regular check up for his old condition but they found the enlarged aorta. I'm sorry that I don't know much information about his original condition or much of anything else but I get everything passed on from my mother and she's pretty upset with the news. Apparently the doctor is not very worried about this and says that he needs to come back in a year for a follow up. This to me does not seem right....seems they need to maybe look into this further instead of sending him on his way. Any outlook on this? He has always been an athlete and is an high jumper for Washington State University (went to Pac 12 this year) so he is in really great health. I would really like to console my mother and give her some good (better) news.

Oral / Dental :: Strange Nerve Sensation From Tooth To Chest...?

It's not a pain really, just a very intense sensation. I've gotten it before when getting a dental cleaning...I don't know what part they hit but it shoots down my neck into my chest. This doesn't happen everytime I get a cleaning--in act it's only happened maybe 3 times total.

And I also have gotten it--and this is a bit embarrassing but pertinent here--when nipples are stimulated. I even read somewhere else that some girl got some weird tooth nerve sensation when her bf was playing with her in that area. Not quite the same thing but still never related.

I phoned my dentist today b/c I felt some sensation IN my tooth left side bottom, as that's where the sensation comes from if it starts in the mouth. She said to come right down. They took Xrays and looked at my teeth and found nothing. However they did say I would need a crown and a filling replaced at some point on that side of my mouth, bottom. But she didn't think that would cause this feeling. She told me it's nothing to worry about. I asked if it could be a nerve and she said that the nerve from the tooth branches out into other nerves, so yes maybe.

That's all well and good but it's very annoying to say the LEAST. Once that nerve(s) is stimulated, it takes maybe a minute to go away. However today, I still feel a sort of 'tickle' in that area (chest) where the nerve sensation was. Plus the feeling in my tooth is new.

Anyone know which nerves these are or why they're sensitive all the sudden? Or even why touching those areas stimulate it?

Chest Pain :: Hard Lump On My Chest - Pain On Breathing, Exercising Etc

I am a 27 years old male and have been suffering from some left chest pain for the past two weeks. The pain worsens when taking a deep breath, exercising, lying down, and even talking. Along with the the chest pain I get a sharp stabbing pain in my back when doing all the same activities. The weirdest thing is I have a hard lump on my chest that is painful to touch. It doesn't get better with ice or heat and pain medications don't seem to help either.

Chest Pain :: Frequent Chest Pain Which Lasts A Few Days

I am a 25 year old female. For about a year now I've been getting sharp stabbing chest pains in my right side which last from 1-14 days. The pain is worse when I take a breath inward and there is no tenderness. There is no monthly pattern with the pains, but I get them at least once every 2 months. I have noticed that every time I sleep on my right side, these pains appear. However I'm not sure whether this is a coincidence or not?

The first time this happened I went to A&E, they did an ECG and checked me for blood clots but everything was fine. Could this be pleurisy do you think? And does anyone know whether sleeping on my right side would bring the pains on. I am getting worried at this keeps happening, I thought it would sort itself out.

Stomach Problems :: Growling And Strange Irritating Pain

For the last 2 weeks I have ben having some rather strange symptoms. I am a 32 year old male. No medical conditions. for the past 2 weeks, I have started feeling a strange sensation in my stomach area. It's not really painful (1/10), its more like an uncomfortable irritation (tenderness?). Almost like pins and needles, but not quite that (hard to describe this 'pain'). Its kind of like sharp pressure pain, and focuses on random, small areas of my abdomen. Sometimes i dont feel it all, other times, it just kind of comes up, then goes away. It started near my bellybutton and now i can feel it in a few places like: about 3 inches to the left and right of belly button, upper abdomen, sometimes bellow navel area. its really quite random, and sometimes I can also feel like almost an itchy/burning sensation, which I cant figure out if it is on the skin, or beneath it. But the uncomfortable irritation is definetly under the skin (maybe on the abdominal wall?). I have had an ultrasound done, but the wall shows no hernias or anything. I've also been having a change in bowel movements (used to go twice a day, lately just once, and less stools). I got an xray done about 10 days ago, and the only thing the doctor said was I have a lot of stool in my intestines and told me to take a laxative. It sort of helped with the constipation, but not much.

Today I went to the doctor because I woke up with intense cramps, likely due to the constipation. He gave me sodium phosphates cleanser and emptied out my system and got diarrhea for a few hours. Now, I am sitting here, and although the cramps stopped shortly after they came, the irritation/pain/tenderness is more than before. before i had to almost notice it, and now I can't miss it. Its still not really painful (like 1.5/10)...its just something that is there, and its annoying and has gotten me worried about what it could be. I noticed that when I bend over, I can feel it a little more, but at other times, it comes on when i am completely still. Also, my stomach has been growling for a few days quite a bit (even after eating). does anyone know what could be causing this strange problem? Could it be feces in my intestines, or could it be gas? Doctors are not sure, and want me to wait it out. So...in conclusion; random pains around my abdominal area, they are sharp and focused on one little area at a time, come at random times, but more often if I bend over or pick up a heavy object, and sometimes I feel an itchy/burning sensation on my stomach.

Chest Pain :: Sensation Of Food Being Stuck In The Throat/chest

I am experiencing the sensation of food being stuck in the throat/chest, as if you swallowed a large pill and it is resting there. I have had acid reflux issues and take Zantac for it (previously Prilosec) and neither of them helped much. It's difficult to swallow and I also feel like I need to burp to relieve some pressure build-up in my throat/chest.

I woke up out of sleep last night and felt this sensation severely along with stabbing pain in my upper abdomen the radiated up to my chest. There's dull pain in my lower back as well along with nausea, trouble getting a full breath. It's extremely uncomfortable and concerning. It seems to hurt more when lying down, but I feel it when I'm upright too.

I'm waiting on a referral to see a Gastroenterologist to discuss my very extensive list of symptoms.

I understand that it anxiety could add to the pains I'm feeling, and I do have extreme anxiety when it comes to my health, but what I'm worried about is that I woke up out of my sleep with this pain to where it can't be directly caused by anxiety. I've been to the hospital for chest pains a couple of occasions and they ruled out everything but anxiety. So trust me, I know what anxiety can do.

Aortic Aneurysm :: Abdominal Pain, Constipation, Lower Back Pain And Pulsating

I have been constipated for years, I have swelling and tenderness in my left quadrant of my stomach slightly above/near my belly button. Around mid february I noticed  that when I lay on my left side I get a tingling sensation and numbness with pulsating throbs through to my back. It stops when I turn over on my right side. I went to the ER and they said I have an umbilical hernia, however very small and shouldn't be causing this much pain. I hurt from my ribcage to my hipbone. I am having a colonoscopy done on friday because I thought my colon was causing the pain because I am severely constipated, however Im starting to think I might have an aortic aneurysm after researching some. has anyone had any similar complications? as I'm writing this my left side of my body aches. from my ribs down to my toes. its really strange. I'm worried because I have 2 kids and a husband. My feet are always cold, I figure I already have poor circulation...and I've always said I would die from an aneurysm.

Last night while lying down I had a sudden, crampy pain in my right calf that wouldn't go away and I noticed a bulge had appeared. Circled on my leg.

[URL]..... I'm flexing my calf in the image so it's more prominent. I don't see anything like that on my other leg. walking around today, I can feel my leg is kind of stiff as is my ankle. Could it be a blood clot? or is it just a muscle?

General :: Joint Pain, Back Pain, Chest Pain, Fatigue

I'm a 17 year old female and I'm hoping somebody can help me out. I've been sick and out of school for over a month now. It all started with severe back as chest pains that were diagnosed as pleurisy. We later found out that I did not have pleurisy though. Through a series of blood tests my ANA came back very positive (I took it twice just to be sure, 2 weeks apart from each other) so my doctors were looking at lupus. Those were my only symptoms at the time though. Starting this past Sunday I've been having joint pains particularly in my wrists up my forearms to my elbows and in my hands. When I move my wrists they keep popping too which is strange to me. I'm always exhausted now which is so unlike me. I play lacrosse and am an in shape teenager but everything seems to be spiraling downward for me.
