Ford Wiring/Electrical :: New Starter Solenoid Still Not Starting
I just replaced my starter solenoid and I'm getting nothing. When 12 volts are applied directly from the battery to the solenoid, the engine wants to turn (granted my batteries are weak) however when I turn the key to start, after waiting for the "wait to start" light to go off and hearing the glow plug click, I turn the key and I get absolutely nothing. No click, nothing. Is there a possibility my ignition is bad?
Would the "wait to start" and glow plug keep working if this were true? Electrical is not exactly my forte'. Before I replaced the solenoid, the bad one had a broken post but the truck would still start most of the time, and when it wouldn't I just connected the two large posts on the solenoid with channel locks or pliers or whatever was handy. I put the new one in exactly the same way the old one came out. I only undid one bolt and set of wires at a time so I wouldn't screw the order up, so I'm at a loss.
Kia - Amanti :: 2005 - Intermittently Not Starting / Flashers Come On And No Sound From Starter
My 2005 Kia, with 139K miles has developed an intermittent symptom of refusing to start. When this happens, the flashers come on and there is no sound from the starter....dead...nothing. I accidentally discovered a way to make it start when I got out and opened the trunk . After closing the trunk, the car started right up. Someone told me this may be related to my alarm system.
5 or 6 times, I have had it happen and solved it with the trunk action. Before this all started, the driver's door lock stopped depressing to lock the car, using the remote, and I have to manually lock it or use the key,3 repair shops, including my local Kia dealer tell me that they cannot diagnose the problem unless it is doing it, but due to the randomness of the issue I can't fix it. I love my Amanti and have kept it serviced and maintained, but am afraid it's time to replace it.
GTI 337/20th Anniversary :: Not Starting - Replaced Starter / Battery
A few weeks ago, my battery died, got a new one, ran fine for a week. Then wanted to go to work a a few days ago, turn the key and heard nothing, took the starter out, got a new one and put it in (used-but I took it apart and it looked fine) Once I put that in was excited to have my car back, but same thing, not even a sound coming from the starter, doesn't even try. Thought it might be a fuse problem, checked everyone that might have to do with the engine...and they all looked fine.
Something with the relays perhaps? I haven't checked those yet. A ground issue? I'm so lost right now.
Prius (2001-03) :: Starter Battery Resetting Voltage - Car Not Starting?
I think the 12v agm battery is starting to go on our 03 prius. It wouldn't start after 4 days no use but did after 2. What is a healthy resetting voltage (with nothing turned on) for this agm battery as I'll check it with a multimeter? What is considered an unhealthy voltage?
View 1 RepliesCamry :: Starter Solenoid - Nothing Happen On Turning Key
I've traced the problem to the starter/solenoid. Battery is good, all dash light power up, but when turning the key to start nothing happens. There is 12v at the signal wire on the solenoid when the key is turned to start. Hitting the starter with the handle of a hammer will get it to engage.
I believe the problem is the solenoid, although it could be the brushes on the actual motor. I've attached a picture of the starter. It looks like the solenoid is a sealed unit; i.e. I can't replace the contacts like the older generation starters. If in fact you can't take apart the solenoid, advice on replacing the solenoid vs. the entire starter? Car has ~125000 on it.
Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Starter Or Solenoid Not Engaging
2012 Santa Fe all of a sudden won't engage starter. First thing in morning it usually cranks. But once I turn it off it won't crank again. When I turn the key I have full power so it's not the battery or terminals. There's no cracking or popping sound, just a whine like the starter's not engaging. Never had any problems with this car so far. I'm thinking maybe it's the starter solenoid.
View 5 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: No Power To The Starter Solenoid
Yesterday after work, i got in my truck and it started right up, no problem. my stereo has been giving me some fits the past few days, looks like everything is on but no sound, and was thinking it might be a fuse so i proceeded to shut off my truck and take a quick look at the fuse box. didn't find anything quickly fuse wise, so i got back in the truck to go home and turned the key and nothing. no whine from the starter, no click click click like a dead battery, but i do here a single click from the relay switch as i left the case off to do a more thorough investigation on the stereo when i got home. anyway.. here is all i have ran through.
1. Made sure the battery is good, even tried jumping it for good measure..took cables off and made sure they had clean connections.
2. Switched out the relay, and fuses related to the starter in fuse box.
3. Put the truck in Neutral, thinking safety switch.. wiggled it around while trying to start it as well
4. Crawled under the truck, took a screw driver and bypassed the switch all together to make sure it wasn't the starter, starter kicked in like it was new, but no truck start. (key was in the on position)
5. Checked the solenoid post with a test light to see if it had power on key turn, nothing.
6. Checked the fuse box and surrounding wires to make sure i didn't bump anything when taking off the cover..
From all of this it sounds like some safety switch that isn't giving power, otherwise i would have thought the truck would have started when i bypassed the switch on the solenoid. Just seems very odd the timing of it and i have not had any previous issues like this.. just out of the blue, literally less than 5 minutes from starting the truck without issue.

View 11 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 2000 - Bad Starter Solenoid Relay?
My truck has started fine every time I've turned the key except for last night after work. I got in had all the lights on the dash and dome lights. I turned the key and nothing. Not even a click. Hooked it up to a company truck and it fired right up and ran fine. Drove home shut off and then started it a little later and it started fine. Then this morning it wouldn't start. I hooked up the jump pack and still nothing. I drove my fusion to work and when I got home I went out and it fired right up like nothing happened. Does the work sometimes not work other times sound like the solenoid on the firewall? 2000 4x4 4.6 auto 253k miles
View 4 RepliesCaravan/Voyager :: 2005 - Can Hear Solenoid Click But No Starter Engagement
A couple of years after buying this I had problems with door locks and power windows. (No locking or unlocking or up/down) after looking this up as recommended I removed and replaced all the relays in the power distribution panel. (No fix) I next removed the battery so I could turn this power distribution panel over, then unplugged all the plugs and reseated them. (Wiring plugs) this got everything working. About 1 year later the same issue, with the same fix. About one more year later I encountered a starting issue... you could hear the solenoid click, but no starter engagement.
I checked the starter and it was good. So on a hunch I flipped the fuse panel over, reseated the wire plugs and it started right up, but it was intermittent for a few weeks. After several unplug and reseat the wires it was good again. Six months later it would spin the starter fine, but wouldn't start up. I first checked for fuel and it was good. Next I checked for spark and there wasn't any. Just a hunch... I went after the power distribution again and ended up taking it completely apart, also computer on the end of it, cleaned up all the connections and it fired right up.
Lexus GX 2004-09 :: GX470 Won't Start - No Solenoid Click / No Starter Noise
Our 2004 GX has been a great car, but is suddenly doing a number of strange things - like not start. When I say it won't start, I mean you can turn the key, the dash lights up, the steering wheel adjusts, radio goes on, etc, but then NOTHING! No solenoid "click", no starter noise, NOTHING! Does not crank at all. The car just turned 60,000 miles, is in great shape, lives in the garage and has never been in an accident.
After the first couple of times it did this, had the battery replaced, as it was getting close. and then the car started again. Until the next day. No rhyme or reason as to when it would do this. It might start 10 times in a row, then NOT start for a while, then magically fire up instantly, even after several key turns. I wiggled the key, tried a different key, shifted to Neutral, wiggled the shifter to try to rule out security interlock, bad ignition switch and shift interlock. No dice.
Did some more research and thought it might be the starter relay - banged on it and it started, so replaced that part. Didn't solve the problem. It also began to randomly die while idling (in park, or in drive). Sometimes it would re-start, sometimes not. The times it has done this, it typically dies after running or 15-20 minutes, but NOT ALWAYS.... Sometimes it will die once, then be good for the rest of the day. Sometimes it re-starts immediately, after a few minutes, or more recently only after sitting for a few hours.. So basically we can't use the car.
Accent MC (2006-11) :: 2010 - Engine Would Not Even Turn Over / Just A Click Of Starter Solenoid
I have a 2010 Accent with 106 000 km on it (Canada). A couple months ago (just as warranty expired) the car would not start. Nothing. Engine would not even turn over. Just a click of the starter solenoid. battery had a load test and is fine. Removed negative battery cable and cleaned the cable where it bolts to the body under the battery tray. Battery terminals were both cleaned at the same time.
Things worked fine for a couple weeks and the problem is back but worse. Everything in the car works fine when it won't start. If I continually turn the key to the start position it will eventually start to turn over and start fine. Sometimes it takes 20-30 turns of the key till it turns over and starts. When it does turn over and start, the engine turns over fine at the normal speed. Not slow like a weak battery.
Dealer is useless. Had a coil go a couple months back just before the warranty expired and they told us that the reason the coil went was that the car had been rust proofed by someone other than Hyundai.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Starter Solenoid Keeps Dying?
My starter solenoid keeps dying. I can't use a retail chain part. They burn up in a day. Always Motorcraft and it only lasts a year or so.
Any way to test this thing to see why it burns out prematurely?
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Bad Starter Solenoid On The Fender
I had a bad starter solenoid on the fender in my truck I swapped it out and then my starter went so I swapped it now it is not disengaging the starter If I turn the key to the run position it starts cranking and fires right up before I an let the glow plugs cycle or anything and it won't disengage the starter I turn off the truck and the starter is spinning loud for a couple seconds till it stops no matter if it just start the truck or start it and run it for a couple minutes then shut it off. 99 7.3L ....
View 6 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: No Crank / Starts Only When Solenoid Is Jumped - Slow Starter
I am having some weird issues with my 2000 F150. When I turn the key all the dash lights go out and no start. Ran 2 wires from the solenoid to a switch and it will eventually start. The starter will start real slow almost like the battery is almost dead and then speeds up more and more till it eventually starts. After it starts the theft light stays on the whole time. At this point I have no clue what is going on.

View 9 RepliesFord Aerostar :: 1989 - No Crank / Loud Knock Coming From Starter Solenoid
Recently, with below 0 temperatures. there have been a couple of times where my van has trouble starting. I would turn the key forward and here a loud knock coming from the starter solenoid and nothing else. but after a couple of tries, it will crank and start right up no problem. so i figured maybe it just has to do with cold weather? but today it wouldn't budge at all. I've been doing some research and came across the possibility that my engine has seized.
I realized that after replacing the radiator, i never checked my oil level since my engine was over-heating prior to the fix and when i checked it today i found that it is a quart low. I guess, what my question is what would be the issue? is my engine really seized or is it the starter or solenoid? could it be some other electrical issue? what are the steps i could take in finding the problem?
F Series :: 1983 F150 Truck Won't Start - Battery Cables And Solenoid Very Hot
I have an 1983 F150 on a little island, so I have to be the mechanic. Yesterday the truck started then stalled and wouldn't start. I opened the hood and the battery cables, the fender mounted solenoid and the cable from the solenoid to the starter were too hot to touch. The battery was dead in about five minutes. I didn't have time to charge the battery, had to get back to the mainland. I bought a new solenoid and a new ignition switch today but where the problem might lie. I won't be able to get back to the truck until the weekend.
View 5 RepliesCamry :: Starter Will Not Crank Intermittently And All Electronics Get Reset
A few weeks ago, I had to replace the starter in my 2002 Camry V6. On its way out, it also fried my AM1 fuse. Well, I bought a starter at Advance (admittedly the cheapest one they had). Now the cars runs great. But every so often the starter either will not crank or it will sound like someone is rapidly turning the it on and off.
Anyway, It's only done that 3 times since I replaced the starter. Here's the weird part. Every time it does that, the stereo and the clock get reset.
I took it to a shop to get diagnosed, but it was acting fine at the time, so the mechanic wasn't able to find anything. He suggested that it was probably the cheap starter, though.
