Impala - Chevrolet :: 2009 - Gas Mileage Is Decreasing
I have a 2009 Chevy Impala. It has 28,000 miles and since November my gas mileage averages between 20-24. I took the car to the dealership and they say nothing is wrong. This car was titled in Hawaii. I live in Wisconsin. Could the colder weather have something to do with the mileage or what else could it be?
View 17 RepliesSanta Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2008 - Gas Mileage Decreasing Over Time
I have a 2008 Santa Fe SE 4 cylinder that has been steadily losing gas mileage over the past few years. I had the fuel injectors cleaned a couple years ago but that did not work. When I bought it (used) in 2010, it was getting 22 mpg. It's now down to 17 mpg. The dealer recommends replacing the fuel filter (& lots of other parts). The car has just under 66,000 miles on it.
I did a search and also read through the fuel mileage thread that's on another Hyundai model forum, but nothing there addressed the slow, steady decrease, although I could have missed something .
There's no stalling, hesitation, slow acceleration, or other weirdness with the car otherwise. Driving habits and routes have not changed, although I might be driving a little slower than 5 years ago. I've had the codes dumped multiple times, with nothing showing up.
Ford - Taurus :: 2005 - Can Cleaning A Mass Air Flow Decrease Mileage?
I had a check engine light on my 2005 Ford Taurus and my mechanic suggested cleaning the mass air flow. Afterwards, the light was off and the car seemed to drive fine ( it was driving fine even with the check engine light on) But my mileage dropped drastically. On the freeway it went all the way down to 10mpg! Right now around town it is fluctuating a bit, but around 14mpg. Should I have the mechanic check for a loose wire or something not connected properly? Or just replace the darn mass air flow?
View 9 RepliesFord :: Decreasing Power When Driving Up Inclines
My Ford Escape is now losing power when I drive up inclines. I can be driving 65 mph on the freeway, and then hit a point of incline, and I am down to about 50 mph by the time I reach the top of the incline, even when I'm hitting the gas hard. My AC wasn't on either. I'm not talking sharp inclines either...just not a completely flat road. No lights have come on, and the car isn't chugging when it's doing this. I just changed my fuel filter by the way and used a can of Seafoam a few days ago.
View 3 RepliesFord - Mountaineer :: 2006 - Fuel Economy Decreasing?
I have a 2006 mercury mountaineer awd v8 which up until a few weeks ago would be able to get 22 mpg highway. I have noticed that recently it has been around 17 mpg at the same speed. Could all of this be blamed on winter gas blend, or is there more to my problem?
View 6 RepliesFord - Taurus :: 2010 - Clicking Sound From Passenger Side On Startup
We have a 2010 Ford Taurus. In good repair, regular maintenance has been done, 80k miles, mostly HWY.
Friday when I started the vehicle there was a sound that lasted for about 10-15 seconds that was like "Tack tack tack tack tack tack tack" coming from the passenger side dash seemingly behind the glove box. Perfect rhythm.
No dash warnings or alarms. Everything seems to be functioning fine. I've started the car 4 times since then with the exact same behavior. Only occurs when I first start the car.
The AC seems to be working well (thought maybe it was something related to that as it's just gotten warm here).
The local Ford Dealership is an option however they are an hour away so if this is something I might be able to diagnose and fix myself, I'd prefer to. My searches thus far indicate that it could be a problem with a blend door actuator but I've not seen much info on what investigating/replacing that might encompass.
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: 2010 Lariat Losing Fuel Mileage Suddenly
I have a 2010 F150 Supercrew 5.4 Lariat that just turned 100,000 miles that is losing fuel mileage all of a sudden... Over the years I'd get 16-17 mpg city and 18/19 highway(best I ever got was 20 mpg on a trip from New Orleans to Houston with cruise set on 65 all the way and no stops) always checked- tank vs miles, not on dash, and with every tank... I've changed all the plugs recently, did the BG Induction Service and BG Transmission service, K&N filter cleaned and recharged, about to do the MAP sensor cleaning also... I've dropped to 15-15.5 miles for the last two tanks...
Truck runs fine but maybe it's just me seems slightly sluggish when driving and accelerate to speed up quickly. Idles fine etc... I've just ordered a scanner for the computer, not that I have any codes YET...but I'm just trying to figure this out to get back to my normal mileage... Again no codes but what about the 02 sensors, they've never been changed... any other tweaks you knowledgeable folks can think of? Also ran Seafoam through the last two tanks... I pull a trailer from time to time... but not for a while... can the transmission get stuck in a lower setting since I'm told they "adjust" and need a few hundred miles to adjust back to non hauling?
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2010 - Cold Air Injection Unit Effect Power And Mileage?
I have a 2010 F250 with a 5.4 gas. I wondered if a CAI would increase power and gas mileage. I have a friend who put one on his mustang and it worked a lot, especially with power.
View 7 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: 2007 - HV Battery Might Cause Decreasing MPG?
I have an 07 Prius great car I drive 92 miles/day round trip to work and back home everyday. I bought my Prius with 98k miles and it would get 42 to 45 MPG all the time.
I now have 172-k on it and it is still running great, but about 4 or 5 months it dropped to 36 to 38 mpg. I did the normal things, changed the plugs, air filter, checked tire pressure. No change in mpg. I thought it must be the HV battery. Because sometimes when I start it in the mornings the MFD only has the 2 pink or red bars showing but builds up to green within the first about 20 miles of driving.
Elantra XD (2001-06) :: MPG Slowly Decreasing
My 2002 GT dash MPG numbers have slowly been decreasing and im not sure why. Has around 146,000 and until now was always steady at 31.0 mpg. At one time I thought it was 34.0 but haven't seen that in a long time. Now every few days it goes down a tenth of a mile. My ecu fuse was unplugged not long ago and im wondering if thats the cause.
View 4 RepliesDodge - Avenger :: 2010 - How To Get Best Mileage
I had a 2010 Dodge Avenger and going down I averaged about 70-75mph and got about 30 mph, coming back I bumped my speed up to about 79-83 and saw the gas mileage dip a bit. So how do you know what speed (Avg) wise while on the freeway to drive to maximize your fuel consumption? Also, what can you do while driving to maximize it? Going down I didn't have any windows open due to some rain and didn't run my AC just vent air. Coming back had the window open a bit and some vent air.
View 19 RepliesPrius (Gen 3) :: 2010 Mileage Is Dropping Than Usual
I just bought a 2010 salvage Prius. I have another 2010 I have been driving for 3 years so I am pretty used to the mileage I can expect under different conditions.
When the car is totally warm and I measure the mileage for 15 miles or so I get normal readings of mpg. But with a lot of 2-3 mile trips during the week I am getting about 10mpg less than usual compared to my other 2010.
Prius (2010-12) :: Is Gen III Battery Better Than Gen II For High Mileage?
I am in the market for a used Gen III regular Prius. I know that battery in Gen III is smaller in size and weight, so energy density is greater. That's great. But I wonder if you've seen high mileage (>200K) Gen III owners experience battery performance deterioration, like someone experienced in Gen II.
My 2004 with 220K miles only get 44mpg in this summer temp. (I drive it a little bit aggressive, use AC, and don't care much about hypermilling) I think at least partly it is due to weaker HV Battery. I can clearly feel that now it is easier for engine to rev very hard when accelerate at 50 mph. That's not the case before.
Prius (2010-12) :: Mileage Drops To 2 Bar Within A Mile
When I bought the car in 2009, if I had 4 bars on my traction battery at night, it would have them in the morning. Now I can leave the car for 2 hours in moderate weather. When I drive off, it will show 4 bars but driving in eco mode w/o ac, it will drop to 2 within a mile and stay there for several miles before it starts to charge again. My overall fuel economy has dropped 10%.

View 19 RepliesPrius (2010-12) Fuel :: Mileage Uphill And Down
So, I was in Wash. State for a while this month and rented a Prius. I decided to check some mileage on mountain roads, and here's what I got. All of these are indicated by the computer, so they are probably 5% or so high. Unfortunately, I did not see either the maximum incline or average incline of these roads posted anywhere, so unless someone else knows them, these numbers are not worth too much scientifically:
UPHILL:
Going uphill on I-90 to Snoqualmie Pass from the West (from Seattle), at 70 mph (the speed limit), fairly steady, with a few decreases for traffic and curves: 18.6 mpg.
Going uphill on US 97 to Blewitt Pass from the north at 50 mph, also the speed limit: 27 mpg.
Going uphill on the Olympic National Park road to Hurricane Ridge, speed limit varying between 35 and 25, with a couple of sections as low as 15 mph: 22.1 mpg. (Maximum incline here might have been 6 or 7 percent).
On the Hurricane Ridge road, I reset the Trip Meter A about a mile from the top (interestingly both segments of the uphill trip registered 22.1).
DOWNHILL, mostly:
The Hurricane Ridge downhill produced an interesting number, because I didn't reset the thing at the top, so I had a mile of 22.1 mpg at the beginning. You go down for about 18 miles, losing about 5200 feet of altitude to nearly sea level (Strait of Juan de Fuca). We kept driving, and at 24.7 miles (so about 6 miles of driving near sea level), the mileage gauge still showed 99.9 mpg. (I took a picture, but it's too fuzzy to put in here.) It was a couple of more miles before I noticed that the trip mpg was down to about 91.
Prius (2010-12) :: After First Oil Change Mileage Is Lower
I went to the local dealer at about 6K miles to get the free 5K service. The invoice said synthetic service, so it should be the 0W-20. Now the average mileage since the last fill-up is lower by at least 3-4 MPG. My driving habits haven't changed. I inflated the tires to above 40 PSI. I looked at the oil. It is medium amber colored. (I forgot to look at it before the oil change. )
View 19 RepliesPrius (2010-12) Fuel :: Winter Mileage Very Low 42 - 43?
Temps average maybe around 10-15F in the winter so mileage won't be great. Tires are up, grill is blocked. We're getting about 42-43 on the HSI which means about 40 mpg in reality (I've checked this many times and Toyota is off by 3 mpg on average in our car). But Mike in Maine shows up with a 60+ mpg in 15F temps, and I know my fellow Alaskan, Spiderman, is getting 50+ easily. My commute is more highway than stop and go. I don't use P&G but I'm very gentle with the go pedal. I feel that I should be getting closer to 50 here, even with the temps. Is this too much to ask? Maybe it is...
View 12 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Traction Battery Gone To 1 Bar - Mileage Down?
My prius is almost 5 years old and has 88K Klm (49K Miles) My battery has gone down to one bar of late. This never happened until recently, never went below two. The bars seem to fluctuate up and down much quicker than before. My mileage is slightly down but it could be because of other reasons. Does it seem that there is something wrong with the battery? No warning lights are coming on
