View 14 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 1998 - A/C Blowing Cold Via Floor Or Defrost Vents?
1998 F150 XLT 4.6l automatic,,,
Drove the truck on a trip the other day, about 650 miles with a loaded 5x8 trailer in tow. A/C started acting weird. When the truck was on level ground, or going down hill, the A/C was fine. Cold air coming out the correct dash vents. As soon as I started up hill, or put the truck under strain of acceleration, the A/C would stop blowing out the dash vents and would start coming out the floor or defrost vents, or just not come out anywhere.
When I turned the A/C off and just used the vent setting, it would do the same thing with the fresh air. I guessing this has something to do with my vacuum lines, somewhere. What I should be looking for and where?
Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 2003 - A/C Start Working Properly And Blowing Cold Air
I have an 03 Ford Ranger 4x4. Great truck and runs great just with one small problem. For whatever reason, every single time, the a/c only blows un-cool air (not hot) when I start the truck. Then, and only then, after about 30-40 mins of constant driving around does the a/c start working properly and blowing COLD air. After that it works great but it always takes about 30 mins after I start the truck for it to work correctly.

I understand there is not much adjustable on my 98 Ranger (2.5L) as far as idle speed and mixture. It runs rough when started cold. Is this a sign to replace spark plugs?
View 2 RepliesFord Ranger / B-Series :: 1998 - No Heat Only Cold Temp?
98 ford Ranger 2.5L.
I have not heat from the vents, doesn't get warm at all. If I idle the enginer in 30 Degree weather it gets to almost the C.
Upper Radiator hose is hot, I have verified the thermostat is new and it opens at 192 degrees as it should. Replaced the Water Pump, Fan spins freely.
I have attempted to burp the system, it isn't kicking out anymore air from the lines that I can tell. I used a large funnel and filled it with Anti-freeze, it filled the radiator, burped the system and the reservoir filled to overflowing. All with the engine hot. (To be specific the funnel was always full of fluid so no air could get sucked backwards)
The heater core hose on the left when looking from the front of the vehicle does not get hot, the one on the right gets warm. I theorize that the heater core is clogged up somehow and that is why that left line doesn't get hot. There is no fluid in the cab of the truck from the core.
Ford Ranger / B-Series :: 1998 - Missing On One Cylinder During Cold Startup
1998 4.0 ... She only misses about 30 seconds during stone cold startup. I figure it's probably the plug thats hardest to reach ? Isn't that the way it always is? From the hood I can see only one spark plug, so I figure I'll do all the plugs. Is there any right or wrong approach to the plugs? I did the thermostat today, but this plug job looks like it's gonna be a bitch. Time for some skinned knuckles Next is the right side O2 sensor, that looks like fun too. But I gotta say, this little truck is sweet. Great visibility and easy to park in the city. I really like her. She's a keeper. She needs some new sway bar bushings too, but no surprise with 127 K on the clock.

What would cause my 4x4 high and 4x4 low lights to flash intermediately together on cold mornings while driving? It won't switch into 4x4 when it does this either. When it sits and warms up later in the morning all works as should. It doesn't do it all the time but when it does its annoying not to mention it's sucks when I need 4x4.

Moms 98 town car only blows hot air. I found out that the blend door was broken. Called Dorman and that is the only car they don,t make/ sell a replacement blend door for, just my luck. I thought about removing the old door completely and installing a 1/4 turn valve in the heater input hose. Kinda redneck but i can,t think of another way out.

My 98 Limited started blowing hot air yesterday, even in Max AC. It even blows hot air out the defroster when the climate control is shut off. It started doing this 2 days ago, but I could still get sporadic cold air from Max AC, but now nothing. What could be the problem?

View 1 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: 1998 - Heater Hose Blowing Off
98 F150 2wd 5.4 -even though VIN says its "W" 4.6; it has a 5.4 with 4.6 timing setup-found. But that's a whole other story...
So, Replaced heater core. did the blend door too.
A week later it overheated and blew a heater hose off the core at the firewall (several times). Temp was up and down, forced me into cylinder head protect mode, so i called my mechanic.
Mechanic used a sniffer (blue liquid turns yellow) in my overflow tank and there was exhaust gas in it... so we replaced head gaskets, intake, timing, water pump, radiator and the rotted out rad support.
Got it done and back on the road, but a few weeks later and the heater hose quick disconnect blew off again, spewing coolant all over (again). This was what we thought was part of the original problem- head gasket allowing cylinder compression into the coolant passages. the little rubber hose that comes from the back of the intake and goes up into the heater core builds enough pressure to pop the disconnect right off and I dont know why. Like I said- I thought it was the head gasket blowing pressure into it but that's all been replaced. Why the pressure would be so high at that point, and how do I correct this?
This is my daily driver, so for now I've bypassed the heater core, but I'm afraid that pressure is gonna burst a hose and/or fitting again.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: 1998 - No Heat / Cool Air Blowing
I have a 1998 f150 4.6 that has a problem with the heating system. It's blowing out a little warm, but "far" from what it should be. ( on a scale from 1-10, I'd rate it about a 3) I am puzzled because I flushed the radiator, changed the thermostat, and there a no signs of heater core leaks inside,hose leaks on firewall, or radiator/water smell present. I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but I did notice the top radiator hose was hot, but not the bottom. I don't know what else to look for.

View 2 Replies1998 Ford Mondeo - Air Conditioner No Longer Blowing Out Of Front Vents
1998 Ford Mondeo. Yesturday I changed my air filter and went for a drive today and realized, that air is only coming through the vents right under the windscreen. I am pretty much car literate but cant afford a mechanic... Research I've done (on the net) shows the problem has something to do with the aircon no longer blowing out of my front vents where the A/C is supposed to blow out of, instead it was blowing out of the defrost vents along the windshield. The air will blow high, med, low, cold warm, ect just only through the vents near the wind shield. It has something to do with the vacume?? and the firewall...??? Apparently??
Where to start to get my aircon working again.. Pretty positive I installed and reset the fitting for the air filter correctly. I had my bonnet up so it can cool and I could change the filter and the wind blew it down, and may have something to do with it, I cant see any damage though..

View 5 RepliesFord A/C :: No Cold Air Blowing At All?
Over the past few days my A/C has gotten progressively warmer to the point it's not blowing cold at all. Early summer I checked the low side pressure and it was at around 30 while running. I added a can to bring it up to 35-40. Blew ice cold air all summer. Now when I check the low side pressure it's around 40 when off. When I run it, the compressor short cycles. When the compressor kicks on, the pressure drops real low (LOW on my guage). When the compressor kicks off, the pressure goes up to about 55-60 then drops back down low for the 2 or 3 seconds until it kicks off. Thought I might have a leak but after seeing the system pressurized like this, i don't think so.
