Golf VI R :: Weird Noise Coming From Either Drivetrain / Suspension Or Clutch

I have weird noise and from just a quick inspection of the car, I don't even know where to start to inspect...

Current setup:

30,000 km

stock clutch

stage 1+ Unitronic @ 5000km (1 track day)

stage 2 w/ hpfp Unitronic @ 27000km (1 recent track day, drove it hard but not prolonged, perhaps 20-25km on a 1km course over 2 hours at max)

VW v2 (~15000km)

drivetrain taken out to install DP @ 25000km.

H&R Rear Sway (setting: stiff)

I feel a weird 'clink' as I turn, and via multiple observations here are the only times I've found it semi-repeatable.

- heavy hard turns (only had a few instances where i could try this out and not 100% repeatable)

- slowly pulling out of a parking spot (turn radius on the steering wheel is more than 50% of a turn) - usually turning left (repeated a couple of times now)

- turning into a driveway (mini bump) @ less than 20km/h

- usually right turn more often then left does this appear

Also, its the noise is coming from the driver side wheel and sometimes right above the drivetrain. this can also be felt if my clutch is semi-engaged (or when i have my foot on the pedal). I have hoisted up my car to do a quick visual inspection (sadly didn't pay attention to the drive train /shaft). but found nothing suspicious (keep in mind it was relatively quick as the shop was closing). one thing i found that was loose and thought was the culprit was a plastic arm with a metallic tube that came off on the driver's side rear control arm .

Ford Fuel System :: 1977 F250 - Spark On Throttle Linkage

I noticed last night while messing with my truck that I have a constant small spark on my throttle linkage on my carb. BTW, it's a 77F250 with a quick fuel Ethanol carb with an electronic choke. That really probably don't make a difference anyway. Is this a common thing and do I need to run a grounding wire from the carb to the rest of the engine?

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Whining Sound Coming From Transmission Or Somewhere Else In Drivetrain

2008 F150 HD Payload package with 5.4L and 4spd auto, 61,000 miles.

Recently developed a whining sound coming from the transmission or somewhere else in the drivetrain. Does not sound like rear axle because it changes pitch with the change of gears. I proved this by disengaging OD while driving and the whine was higher pitched once the transmission down shifted. I did some other research and found a reference to the #9 bearing going bad in a 4R75 trasnmission in a Crown Victoria. I am going to fight for any repair to be covered by the powertrain warranty even though it just clicked 61,000. The dealer has done ALL maintenance on this truck since it was new (following severe duty recommendations).

Camry 2012+ :: 2014 - Steering Linkage Behind The Engine Rusting

While looking in the engine compartment, I noticed that the steering linkage behind the engine where it comes out of the firewall and connects to the steering box is rusting... Bad. The car is only a year old, but the linkage looks like it's 10 years old. Should I be concerned?

Ford - Ranger :: 1998 - Metallic Drivetrain Noise Only Upon Acceleration

The vehicle in question is a 1998 Ford Ranger XLT with the 3.0L 6cyl engine and an automatic transmission.I've done quite a number of repairs already and am now trying to isolate what might be causing this particular noise.

The noise itself sounds a little bit like a rotational metal on metal sound with a dash of two washers being vibrated together. It takes no effort at all to reproduce; put the car into drive and step on the gas. The truck will happily move forward, making that drivetrain sound.

Here's the thing..

1) If you're in park and step on the gas, there's no sound.
2) If you're in neutral and step on the gas, there's no sound.
3) If you let off the gas and coast, the sound goes away immediately. Step on the gas again, and it comes right back.

To me, this seems to indicate a motor and transmission mount problem. If the engine is idling, then it isn't spinning the drive axle or rear diff.Upon acceleration, the driveline might be torquing strangely and this in turn would cause the differential yoke to spin at an odd angle causing the noise. It'd also explain why all the noise ceases when I let up on the gas; there's no more load on the drivetrain.

I don't believe it's the axle or pinion or even wheel bearings, since the car is -quite- quiet once you let up on the gas pedal...

Ford - Explorer :: 2004 - Drivetrain Noise Like Slamming In And Out Of Gear

My '04 Explorer started making a noise like slamming in and out of gear. Felt and sounded like the transfer case was slipping or jumping teeth. Turning slow in gravel the left rear would drag like a spider gear problem.

It has the Auto 4x4 system, Auto-4H-4L. I pulled transfer case out and apart. No signs of teeth missing, slipping, nothing. Chain looks good, bearings good. Clutch pack good. No sign of any metal shavings in the case.

Pulled rear differential, one bad spider gear for the left axle is all I found. Not enough for the very hard slamming it was doing. U joints & axles good also.

Jeep - Grandcherokee :: 1994 - Thumping Sound Coming From Drivetrain

When I drive over 55 i have a shaking through the car after driving for a while if you put it in reverse it feels like it is binding up and when you put it in park you can hear a thumping sound coming from the drive train i have replaced both cv shafts in the front (they were bad) and the passenger side hub. I am going to replace the ball joints with after market ones because it pulls to the right and the stock ones do not have a camfer adjustment is the binding a differential problem or a transfer case problem also if while the engine is off if you shift to neutral you can feel it release the tension on the drive train.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Drivetrain Noise Changed To Vibration

I have a 04 F350 srw , 6.8 . Recently developed loud whine from the rear . I had the differential (10.5 sterling ) completely rebuilt . It quieted way down . But I still had a couple of high pitched whines . Took it back and had the rebuilder ride with me . At first he couldn't hear it ( it can be faint but gets louder under a load , I pull a 40' trailer and didn't have it with me), when he finally started hearing it he said it might be a planetary making a little noise, just watch it . So I made a short run (450miles RT) . Same noises but I noticed that sometimes when I stopped and got fuel , it would quiet down for 50 or so miles . I got to thinking maybe it could be a rear wheel bearing going bad and the sound transferring through the axle to the drive line . It only did it accelerating ( before and after rebuild ) and got louder going up a hill .

Today I drove it in to town and parked it ( still the same ) and a couple of hours later after a cold front came through ( maybe 10 Deg. temp change) I got in and the noise was about 90% gone , but at 45 to 60 mph. it vibrates . Let off the gas , vibrates ,, Put it in neutral- vibrates, revved the engine in neutral - vibrates and no change from rpm diff. . As long as its rolling between 45-60 , it vibrates . Hit the brakes- vibrates.. I have had 3 mechanics check it out ( 2 good ones and one that the other 2 take what they cant figure out ). Left them all scratching their heads. Checked the driveline and I changed one U joint (prior to the short run ). All seems tight .

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2012 F250 Grinding Coming From Front End

I've been noticing a grinding coming from the front end of my 2012 f250 4x4, mostly while turning. It seems like its worse over uneven terrain, bumpy dirt roads, things like that, but I have noticed it on occasion while on seemingly smooth roads. Also a couple times while turning and lightly braking I could feel it interfere with the brakes. They wouldn't grab completely and you could feel the grinding in the pedal. I've been crawling around looking for rub marks or any indication of what might be causing it but until recently I hadn't noticed anything. Today though I found this. I'm guessing bad ball joint or tie rod maybe? Maybe just need alignment?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2002 F350 - Drivetrain Noise Noticeable At Around 50 MPH

Drivetrain noise I cannot diagnose. I have a 2002 F350 diesel and have noticed over the past couple thousand miles a noise from the drivetrain that is hardtop identify. It is not brake related ( new and unaffected by brake application) and not rpm related. Most noticeable at around 50mph. Not tires and they are new and noise persists.

Front end has been apart for new hubs, brakes, rotors, wheel bearings. Noise continues. It has an oscillating quality and is somewhat like a lower pitch whine which gets more prominent as speed increases. Wondering about bearings associated with drive shafts? Are there some things I can check underneath to diagnose the issue?

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2012 F250 - Traction Control Light Just Coming On Randomly And Staying On

I have a 2012 f250 been in the shop 4 times for the traction control light just coming on randomly and staying on. they have flashed it changed something in the steering column forgot name of that and changed some sensors out. still does it. I think its a bad connection or bare wire is what I keep saying to them cause it only does it on rough roads and when its wet.

Passat (B6) :: 2007 - Excessive Road Or Drivetrain Noise?

2007 3.6 Wagon Sport. My wife has the 18" Samarklan wheels and automatic transmission. We have complained to the dealer since the beginning with only the "you need new tires" response. Well we got new tires last year and the noise was the same. I've had 18" on my old '00 S4 and current '00 A8 with nothing near this amount of noise.

The sound is most like a groan and doesn't seem to be coming from the engine. It's seem most noticeable at lower speeds coming/coasting to a stop, but does not seem to vary with or without braking. It doesn't seem to vary based on turning either.

I don't ride in her car much, but am always shocked how loud it is when I do, as it's so dramatically louder. Also the HVAC 'percolates' constantly which is generally only noticeable at idle. This is a small, secondary concern. I everyone's Passat really this loud?

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: F250 - Bearing Noise Is Coming From Front End

We are working on a 97 f250 light duty 4.6 4x4 5spd. Trying to figure out where a bearing noise is coming from in front end. Replaced both front hub bearings from napa. 150 each... the noise is still there. someone said could be cv shafts... although ive never heard a cv shaft make this noise i replaced them anyway cuz one was clickin last time was in the woods. bearing noise is still there..... in a long bank turn to the left the noise goes away till start to straighten out. while replacing the half shafts I grabbed the plates the shafts bolt to and spun them and checked for slack. none found. front diff's full with no leaks. as title says.... what next?

Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2012 F250 - Intermittent Thrumming Noise At Highway Speed

2012 F250. 15k miles. It's intermittent, speed related, some sort of resonance or harmonic. WoooOOMMmm....woooOoMm, maybe every two seconds at 70 mph. Worn out tires once made a similar sound on a car I owned. This was severe inner wear on the rears. I'm not sure whether it's new or something I just never noticed; it's subtle.

Ford Fuel System :: 1974 F250 - Howling Noise Coming From Carburetor?

I have a 74 f250 with a 67 352 and a 2150 carb. I have noticed that after driving the truck for a while and when its nice and hot, if I shut it off I hear a funny "howling" noise coming from the carb. It does it for about 5 seconds, then goes away. I rebuilt the carb and it still makes the noise. Also when I am driving it, when I have the pedal at a certain point, I can hear a lot of vacuum, I have checked for vacuum leaks, and there are none. The other question I have is, the 352 was out of a standard shift truck, mine is an auto, so I have nowhere to hook my tranny kick down rod to. How I can fix that, besides replacing the carb?

Ford Wiring/Electrical :: F250 - No Power / Loud Buzzing Noise Coming From Under The Dash

Tried to start my truck after sitting for 2 days in sub zero weather. wouldn't crank. pulled the batteries and charged them over night. Tried to start it the next day-wouldn't crank but the starter relay clicked. Was going to pull the starter and check it but decided to replace the relay first. replaced it and tried to start but now have no power to the cab-nothing comes on. I've checked the batteries with a load tester and they are ok. I've checked the fuses and they seem to be ok. when I tried to start it and the relay clicked there was a loud buzzing noise that seemed to be coming from under the dash. it has done this before but this time was louder than usual. I live out in the sticks so taking it somewhere is a last resort. It is a 1999 7.3 with 290000 miles.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2003 F250 - Ticking Noise Coming From Underneath

I have a 2003 F250 4wd with a 5.4 and 6 spd and 175,000 miles. Yesterday I came out to start it and noticed it had a ticking noise coming from underneath. According to the stock gauge it had normal oil pressure and the oil looked nice and clean and was full. I checked it while running and was able to verify that it is coming from the bottom oil pan/bell housing area. Before anybody says exhaust leak, I just put on JBA headers a few months ago and verified it wasn't an exhaust leak. I was assuming it was a rod bearing so I figured I would let it get to operating temp and see what happens. Once it started getting warm it started getting quiet and finally it just stopped once it hit full operating temp. Took it for a drive and found that it does it when in gear no matter what but stops when I put it in neutral and let out on the clutch. it makes the noise in neutral with clutch pushed in, but stops as soon as you let it out.

Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2002 F250 - Intermittent Noise Coming From Front End

I have a 2002 F-250 7.3. I was driving home from work on Tuesday (highway), I heard an intermittent noise coming from the front end, sounded like a rubbing/grinding noise. Yesterday on my way to wok, same thing, on and off. Yesterday on my way home the noise was constant, didn't go away. The noise comes at about 45mph and stays until I'm back under about 45mph, so mainly just on the highway. I put the truck in neutral and let off the pedal and the noise is still there which tells me it isn't engine related.

Yesterday after work I jacked up the front end, spun the tires, no noise. No play in the tires top/bottom or side/side. Took the tires off and what I did notice is the right axle u-joint is shot. I am hearing the noise in 2wd so I don't know if its the u-joint that's making the noise. Could it be a bad wheel hub bearing? Is it the u-joint? Maybe needle bearing??
