Civic - Honda :: Seat Belts Grab And Won't Let Go

The rear seat belts in my wife's 2001 Civic EX are annoying, but I don't know if this is abnormal, and can be fixed, or just something we have to live with. Basically, the seat belts frequently grab you and won't let go, so you can't lean forward, for instance. You have to unlatch them and start over.

When I test the belts without latching them, I pull them out a long way and let them retract over and over, and then at some point they grab and I can't pull them out again without letting them retract all the way back to the beginning. I can hear that the ratchet is engaged when this is happening.

During the time when they do pull out and retract with no problem, if I give a sharp tug, they grab, like they're designed to do, and then let go.

Civic - Honda :: 1991 - Shut Off While Driving Like The Key Turned Off

My car ( civic 1.5 dx duel injected) just cut off while I was going down the free pay like the key had been turned off. Now it turns but won't crank. I am getting spark from my plugs, my fuel pump still works, i think my injectors are ok, when I took off the air box I can see fuel going into the throttle body, my throttle isn't stuck, diaphragm seems to have a seal. I took the head cover off and there isn't any fuel/oil in the valves. What could it be? After I put the plugs/cap/head cover back on it cranked for a second then idled down and back to no start.

Civic - Honda :: 1992 - Takes Too Much Time To Start?

My embattled 92 civic hatchback has developed an issue that makes it take forever to start. I put the key in the ignition, turn it to the start position, and then I have to wait for up to 10 to 15 minutes to hear the click-hum of the fuel pump priming (which turns off the check engine light) before I can start it. I've noticed that it's much worse on wet days, but generally starts right up if it's only been off for a few moments. I used to just give the Civic ample warning before I need to go somewhere by running out, turning the key to start, and then letting it sit there, but this is beginning to wear down the battery. I've replaced the main relay to no avail, and once the car is running it does just fine, which makes me think that the fuel pump is fine.

Full disclosure: this thing also has a bad oil problem. A diesel mechanic changed the head gasket several months ago (owing to yet another starting problem, and I'm starting to think it was the same starting problem, and that I blew the head gasket from trying to push-start the thing), and in our efforts, we seem to have messed up the valve cover gasket. There is oil in the plug wells, and there's some power loss as the engine is trying to cough up the oil. I haven't replaced it yet because it doesn't seem to be a critical issue as long as I keep feeding it more oil.

I've done some searching on the web, and the general consensus of the internet (and the internet HAS to be right, right?) is a bad ECU. When I look this up in my manual, getting to the ECU is just a matter of pulling the carpet in the passenger-side floorboard out of the way. Okay, great. Only problem: I can't find a place where I can buy a good ECU. I could probably find one at a junkyard, but there's no guarantee there. If I do manage to find one, I want to be able to return it if replacing it doesn't fix anything.

Fuel pump - checked before we changed the head gasket, came back okay
Starter - I changed it by myself before we changed the head gasket
Ignition Switch - The key is optional, but everything else electronic in the car responds properly when the switch is in the proper position.
Distributor/Rotor cap - Changed when we changed the head gasket

Civic - Honda :: 1991 DX Not Turning Over When Key Turned And Push In The Clutch

Ok my car is not starting. It is not turning over when you turn the key and push in the clutch. I can here a relay click under the drivers side dash. I can push start it and it runs great, sometimes it will start and run fine but it is a frequent problem now. What could be causing me these problems. 1991 Honda Civic DX ....

Civic - Honda :: Engine Fan Start Running While Car Is Turned Off And Has Been Off For Hours

Is it possible for the engine fan to start running on my honda civic while the car is turned off and has been off for hours? My husband claims that it was so hot in the garage last night that the fan on the car started running. I think it was the house air conditioner that he heard, but he insists it was the car engine fan. I think he's up in the night!! So...is it him, or me, that's up in the night?!

Civic - Honda :: Loose Steering Wheel When Driving But Only About 30% Of The Time

2000 Honda Civic DX, green, four doors, 91,000 miles. A few weeks ago I noticed that the steering wheel was loose when driving but only about 30% of the time--didn't seem to be related to whether the car was warmed up or time of day or speed, just that it happened when the car was moving. The steering wheel would have play when the wheels were pointed/driving straight and the looseness went away when turning. I brought it in to the mechanic and of course he couldn't get it to happen when he drove it. Replaced worn inner tie rods, did a power steering flush/replaced the power steering fluid and did a front end alignment. Drove fine for two weeks but then it started occurring again, this time even more loose/more play in the steering, still only when driving straight. Oh, just one time (so far) a few days ago it was loose when I was standing still at a stop light.

Civic - Honda :: Transmission Is Loud In All Gears (including Reverse) Nearly All The Time

I drive a 1998 honda civic 5 speed manual transmission. The transmission is loud in all gears(including reverse) nearly all the time. It is not exactly a grinding sound, but that is as close as I can describe it. When taking off from a stop, sometimes it won't initially make the sound, but around 15-20 mph it will start to make the sound in 1st or 2nd gear. Once the sound starts, it won't go away. I can't link the time when it starts making the noise to any particular RPM.

I've hard the car for 5 years and 50,000 miles and it's made this noise the whole time I've had it. It is annoying more than anything (shifts smoothly, clutch not slipping). Someone who looked at my car shrugged his shoulders and said "when the clutch goes, put in a whole new transmission, that will probably fix it".

Civic - Honda :: 1995 - Hard To Start In The Rain / Crank For Long Time

Car does not have to get wet, just be in humid air. Problem going on 2 years now, mechanics tried disconnecting a (?) ground/sensor from computer, major tune up, new fuel pump. Until recently, it just took keeping it in crank position for a long time for it to finally start. Recently, in crank position for 30 seconds does nothing and has me worried I'm doing damage. In dry weather, it starts first time every time.

Honda - Element - Belts :: 2004 - High Pitched Noise Similar To Drive Belt Slipping When AC Compressor Cycles On

I have a 2004 Honda Element and when the AC compressor cycles on it makes a high pitched noise similar to a drive belt slipping. The AC is still cold and the noise is not overwhelming (yet). I know this vehicle has a serpentine belt and that doesn't appear to be making any noise. The only noise is when the compressor is running.

Is there a belt that drives the compressor (other than the serpentine)? And, is this something that I should get fixed ASAP or can it wait until my next oil change? Meaning, if I wait until the oil change (under 1,800 miles) will hurt anything?

Dodge - Engines - Timing-belts - Pump - Neon - Belts :: 1995 - Squeaking Noise - Blown Timing Belt?

I've got my sister's 1995 Dodge Neon with the 2.0L SOHC. While driving it recently I heard a horrible squeaking noise then a ZZZZZZzzzzzz sound. I immediately pulled over. The check engine light came on, and I shut the car off. Coolant was all over the place leading me to believe the water pump failed. I had it towed to my house, and now I will have it towed to the shop to get fixed. I would like to have them repair the timing belt and water pump. However, I am afraid that the valves were beaten to a pulp and now I will need a new engine. I was only going 35 mph when it happened. What are the odds that my valves were smashed up, and is there anything I can do to check them before I pay for a timing belt/water pump repair?

Civic - Honda :: Makes Rattling Noise

2002 Honda Civic EX Manual ... My Honda makes this rattling noise. I noticed it only a few times on the freeway a few weeks ago, but it went away after breaking. But now it happens a lot more often, but only most of the time.

I can't figure out what the common denominator is among the times it does rattle. Any speed, any gear, any rpm, uphill, downhill, flat, a/c on or off. I just replaced the clutch (it needed it, unrelated problem) but it started just before replacing the clutch, and now is worse. Up until today, it would completely stop when I hit the breaks, or even just tapped them (though resume when I lifted my foot). Then today, that doesn't have the same effect...it takes a lot more pressure/time to make it stop. It seems to be coming from the front passenger side, but sometimes sounds like it could be coming from the passenger back.

Civic - Honda :: Clicking Noise From Transmission?

2002 acura el, basically a fancier canadian version of a civic. 1.7l v-tec engine.

Anyways the (5 speed manual) transmission makes an odd clicking noise that sounds similar to putting a card in bike spokes when you were a kid. Its hard to describe here is a video

It happens 80-90% of the time but occasionally sounds normal, seems to be getting worse lately, responds to rpm increase but gets drowned out around 3200rpm, and cant really be heard in 4th or 5th gear doesn't make the noise when rolling or revving in neutral, or when driving in reverse.Sounds like its coming from the bottom middle of the engine bay, around the input shaft or where the passenger side cv connects.

Civic - Honda :: 2003 - Intermittent Noise - Cause?

About 3 weeks ago, I purchased a 2003 Honda Civic EX Coupe, automatic transmission with 131,000 on it. I took it to my mechanic before purchasing it and he said it looked good. The test drive didn't reveal any problems. A few days into owning it, however, I noticed this screeching noise but it didn't happen all the time. When it happened, I was always taking off from an intersection or pulling out of a parking lot - never when I was just driving down the road or on startup. The mechanic couldn't get the noise to happen but inspected the belts and said they looked new and were tight enough. This continued happening intermittently and sometimes I would even notice a slight hesitation in the car on takeoff. I went back to my regular mechanic with no success and also took it to another mechanic who tightened up the power steering belt a bit - still does it. None of the mechanics hear the noise when they drive it because it is so intermittent. I will add that the noise only happens with the AC on - a further inspection revealed the pulleys to be ok. What in the world is this noise and is it something that could leave me stranded? Everything I read about screeching is belt and pulley related but that doesn't seem to be my problem.

Civic - Honda :: Low Rumbling Noise At Cold Start

So for the last week my Civic has been making a low, rumbling sound (almost like an overly powerful bass system or a muffler) and vibrating whenever the car is idling from a cold start. The noise is most pronounced when the car is started but continues for a short time while I am driving, but only when I take my foot off of the gas in low RPM (below 1.0k). Whenever I accelerate, the noise stops, but when I go in reverse the noise is becomes louder. Also, the noise is very faint from outside of the car, but very pronounced from inside. After about 20-30 minutes of driving it usually goes away. What could be causing this?

Civic - Honda :: Resonant Noise - Bad Wheel Bearings?

After my Chevy Prizm took its rightful place at the junkyard two months ago (transmission failure on a car with a bad engine and suspension problems is, and should be, fatal), I got a 2008 Honda Civic to replace it. I had it checked out before buying by my mechanic, and I've driven it a few thousand miles without many issues. It had just under 42K on it when I bought it (former lease bought at new car dealer sale by the local place I bought it from), has just over 46K now, and has new Bridgestone tires on it that my mechanic says are worth $700-800. (I don't know exactly what kind they are, which is why I include that bit of pricing info.)

Last week I noticed that a sound I'd been hearing intermittently (to the point where I wondered if I was imagining it) became steady and consistent at 60mph. It's a "hooooooooo" sound, very resonant, and it's driving me crazy. It's gotten louder and louder, and it's now happening around 30 mph and above. It's been consistent since last Friday and getting worse every day.

Underneath that sound is the soft drone of what I assume is a wheel bearing going bad, which is still intermittent and has only started in the last few days. This is what causes me to believe what my mechanic said yesterday, which is that one of the front wheel bearings needs replacing. He also said I could wait until the sound "gets louder" before replacing the bearing -- I assume he means only the droning sound, not the resonant hooting that I hear every time I get onto a main road now. Because I believe the resonant sound COULD get louder, but I don't see how a person could keep driving under those conditions without actually going insane.

I scheduled the car to go in tomorrow to have that bearing fixed (for between $300-500, he said, which seems really pricey to me). But I'd like to know whether this is likely to solve the resonant "hoooooo" sound as well as the "wow wow wow" sounds that I associate specifically with a bad wheel bearing. My mechanics checked the suspension and rotated the tires yesterday while doing an oil change, too, and said everything looks tight and good, and the tire rotation had no effect on the sound I'm hearing, which is strongest from the driver's side front and is, again, louder every day.

(I know Civics aren't supposed to be great on road noise, but the fact that this has clearly gotten measurably worse over only a few days makes me feel its definitely mechanical and not just the usual ambient highway noise.)
