Chevrolet - S-10 :: 1987 - Knocks When The Motor Is Warm

My 87 S10 (2.8L) recently began knocking. It only knocks when the motor is warm and increases as RPMs increase. I had a friend who is a mechanic look at it and he said it was rod knock. My situation: I have to get my truck back home from college. It's about 100 miles and over a mountain pass.

it's really a 1987 Nova, but the drop down menu didn't list that option. I have been working on trying to figure out the cause of this problem for a pretty long time. During the last several years it had been running deteriatingly worse until I did an ignition tune up and replaced the spark plugs, plug wires, and the distributor cap (and rotor). That restored operation back to just the original problem of random but often poor or inability to idle. I have spent a lot of time on the carburetor and think that isn't the cause of the trouble. I'm pretty shy about doing this post, but here goes.

Chevrolet - S-10 :: 1987 - Transmission Slips In Forward Gears And Can't Go In Reverse

My '87 Chevy S-10 transmission slips like mad in forward gears and I can't go everywhere in reverse. The truck is gaaged in southern Virginia about 60 miles from my home and is used on some country property. The local transmission shop wants $1600 to rebuild the trans. He says he used sturdier parts than the replacement GM parts. I'd like to fix the truck because it comes in handy and was my dad's old mode of transportation around the Va. countryside, so it has sentimental value.

Chevrolet - Celebrity :: 1987 - Idles Roughly, Stalls When Gas Is Applied

I bought a 1987 Chevy Celebrity for $700.00. Initially it ran fine after just a slight hesitation when the accelerator was first pressed. With a little more gas applied it smoothed out and ran well. Yesterday I took a drive to the library. On the way the engine stalled. After a minute or so I was able to restart the engine and proceeded to the library. On the way home the engine again stalled. I was able to restart the engine but it idled roughly and stalled as soon as the accelerator was pressed even slightly. I tried varying the amount of gas applied from very little to pressing the pedal to the floor to rocking the gas pedal to no avail. So; idles roughly, stalls when gas is applied.

Chevrolet - Celebrity :: 1987 - Crank Very Hard / Start Then Stall Out

I have a 1987 Chevy Celebrity w/a 2.5l automatic engine. Physically its in really good shape and only has 64k original miles. Consistent issue is it will crank (sometimes very hard to get it to do so, then run smooth, sometimes for days, sometimes for only minutes, then stall out. It usually stalls after the engine is good and warm. If you let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, it will restart and idle smooth and then go into stalling out again, sometimes within minutes, sometimes days. I have replaced the fuel tank, fuel filter, sending unit/fuel pump, fuel injector, throttle body, the computer, exhaust/muffler, mass air flow sensor, several other sensors and it has not improved or worsened the problem. I have sunk $1700.00 into this car in replacement parts. I can't believe that there's much else left that could be the cause, and I suspect its bound to be something simple, like a sensor or something, because pretty much all of the expensive stuff's been replaced.

Chevrolet :: 1987 - Check Engine Light On But Only When Driving Uphill?

I'm driving my mom's 1987 Chevy Spectrum, which has about 190,000 miles on it. The Check Engine light comes on daily, but only when I'm driving uphill. The Chevy dealer says because the car is so old, it will take several hundred MORE bucks to find out what the codes mean. Doesn't seem to matter how full the gas tank is, or how steep the hill is. Other than this light, she just keeps going and going. Do I need to track down the cause? Might there be other symptoms that would diagnose it that I'm unaware of?

Chevrolet - Camaro :: 1987 - Clutch Making Rotary Grinding Noise

I have a 1987 Camaro with a 305 TPI V-8, with a 5-speed manual transmission. I rebuilt the transmission, and installed a new clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, and had the fly wheel ground (which the machine shop said that it took very little material off to get clean-up). When we first got the car running when the car is moving in any gear (even in neutral) with the clutch peddle down, I get a rotary grinding noise (but only about 30% of the time). If I let the clutch pedal up the noise stops immedately. The transmission shift smooly, in all gear selection. I thought that I had gotten a bad throw out bearing, so we installed an other new throw out bearing, but I get the same noise. Is there something that could cause this noise inside the transmission?

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Steering Wheel Controls On Left Hand Side Intermittently Stop Working

I've got a 2011 Sonata Limited that I just purchased used, 20,000 miles. Everything is great besides the fact that the all the controls on the left hand side of the steering wheel will intermittently stop working. I brought it to Hyundai the first time I noticed and they replaced all the buttons but the issue persisted. So, I just picked it up today from them replacing the entire clockspring and the wiring behind it now. It worked great all day until just as I was pulling into my driveway and it happened again.

They basically told me this would 100% fix it because it's the only other thing that could be the issue. However, my gut keeps telling me it could be an issue with the radio itself. I've read a bunch of stuff on here about the issue but there was only a few responses of fixes (all of which I have tried).

Toyota :: 1987 - Fuel And Temperature Gauge Won't Working Suddenly

I borrowed a friend's small Toyota truck for a few days of easy chores, and made a point to check the fuel at the beginning: the gauge showed 3/4 full. Four days and only 25 miles later, when I got in to return it, I noticed the fuel gauge was not working, I'm certain there's no fuel leak, I would have noticed that: the truck had been parked on my property the entire time, driven only a few hundred feet from one spot to another moving firewood around, so I would have smelled the gas if there was a leak.

When I added a couple gallons of fuel, the gauge didn't budge. Once on the road, I realized that the engine temperature gauge was also dead - no change on the gauge after 10 miles. So I have two non-functioning gauges which failed on my watch. This may not be directly my fault, but as my friend is kind enough to lend the truck whenever I need it, my contribution is to provide maintenance.

Is there anything in common between the two gauges which would explain the synchronized failure? Or is this total coincidence? This one is outside my experience, so don't know where to start. It's a 4 cylinder, 5 speed manual, base model truck, about 150k, generally runs just fine. There are no other gauges, and I don't recall what warning lights there might be, but I didn't see any after I realized there was a problem. Would the whole instrument cluster die at once, or could this be something like a bad ground for the cluster? I don't mind investing effort into tracking down and solving a problem, but if it needs a new cluster, that will cost more than I'd like to contribute, yet the problem occurred while I was using the truck (gently). My total use of this truck for all the times I've borrowed it is certainly less than 300 miles, so I'm reluctant to fund the entire repair if this is something that just comes with age.

Suspension :: 1987 Caravan - Windshield Wipers Quit Working All Together

I bought a good running and clean ' 87 Caravan last year and it's a good one. When I bought it, the speed of the windshield wipers were very slow. The delay part of the wipers didn't work. Recently, the wipers quit working all together. I checked the fuses, they are fine. I have an ' 89 Caravan parts van that I removed the "tested and working" wiper motor. Installed it and it's still not working. What else am I missing here?

Chevrolet - S-10 :: Brakes Not Working When Ignition Is On

My brake pads were wearing unevenly so I changed the pads and calipers. I bled the system and when the car is off the breaks work to stop the car. When the key is in and turned to the ignition position the no longer work. The vehicle moves as if there were no breaks. I can hear fluid squirting into the reservoir when this happens. When I press the breaks with the car off it works and clamps down as it should. Whats going on?

Chevrolet :: Windshield Washer Pump Is Not Working

I just bought a 1995 S10 4x4 for my son and the windshield washer pump is not working. It doesn't make a sound and I have measured that no voltage is going to the hot side of the harness going to the pump. The ground tested fine. It was also having wipers issues where they stopped at random places when turned off and the timing was screwy. I removed and resoldered the wiper pulse board and cleaned up the contacts. Wipers are good, but still no squirter.

I have a 2000 s-10 extreme 3 dr. v6,with all 3 brake lights not working.All other lighting works ok. Fuses and bulbs check ok. In searching the previous posts,I think I understand fhat the 3rd brakel ight being out also would rule out the hazard switch and the combination switch since the power for it does not go thru these switches. Am I correct in thinking that this leaves the brake kight switch or the wiring from this switch as the likely culprits?

A week ago today my Low Beams stopped working, I turned on my car and they flashed on like normal, then a split second later went out; Just as the sun was setting too.

After finding a place to leave my car and hitching a ride home, I went back the next day to check it out.

Checked and double checked all the fuses, all were ok (I checked every single fuse, not just the lo beams)Checked all the wire connections to ensure they are tight.Replaced the light bulbs, still nothing.Ordered a new Headlight Switch, and just installed it today, Low Beams still don't work.

My High Beams, Blinkers, Hazards, Break Lights, and Daylights all work, just not my Low Beams, any clues as to what might the problem be?

I am not sure, since now, that my RWD has ever worked, the fuse is fine, the light comes on, the lines on the window are not broken. No defogging. Connections seem good everywhere.

courtesy "dome" lights do not work when doors are opened or when dash switch is activated. Fuse (under driver seat) and Relay switch have been replaced. Can hear relay switch activated with dash switch. Lights work individual (toggle style ceiling lights). Dash lights dim with dash switch.

I have a 03 silverado 1500. I was putting in new speakers for the doors so I took the panels off and unhooked all the connectors.once I hooked it all up again and put it together the window,power mirror,mirror turning signal, and locks won't work for the passenger side. I can't work it with the driver side controls either. i've unhooked the battery and let it sit for an hour to reset the computer but it hasn't made any difference.
