Touareg :: VR6 Slight Engine Knock When Driving Slowly
04 Touareg VR6 7k miles. Noticed a slight engine knock when driving very slowly such as through a parking lot when you vary engine speed between 1500 and 2000 rpm? You can not hear it if when the window is down, or radio is on, it has to be very quiet. I think it may have been here all along and I just never happened to be idling around with no radio.
View 2 RepliesTouareg :: 2004 - Harsh Downshift From 2nd To 1st Gear?
My wife's 2004 v-6 has finally come to the point of harsh downshifting between 2nd and 1st,that she finally said something to me about it and that is unusual as she has the kids and music going so she hardly ever notices anything like that. I took it to the dealer at the 60k service and demonstrated the problem to them. Well, they did some software update 01210000 and it was supposed to be fixed. Well it isn't. and of course as before it does this intermittently so after they updated and drove it for a mile they considered it fixed. BUT it still does it.... It is a real harsh clunk/downshift just as you almost stop going from 2nd to 1st ? you feel it and hear it ....

I have 05 V8 and noticed that when I come to a complete stop the transmission is still in 2nd...then after a second or so it shifts to 1st with a slight bump.... I had an 04 V6 Touareg and never had this problem...
View 8 RepliesTouareg :: Transmission Slow On Upshift And Jerky On Downshift
Transmission (V-6) is slow on the upshift; and jerky on the downshift. Going uphill, the transmission does not want to downshift into a lower gear unless the accelerator is heavily depressed. So, 6th gear at like 45 mph uphill, then finally downshift into 4th with jerk downshift.
As car comes to a stop, right about 2 or 3 mph, the rpm's drop from idle to about 400; sometimes once sometimes twice. It feels like it's going to stall. Have had all the software updates.
Touareg :: 2004 V10 TDI Sluggish And Doesn't Downshift To Accelerate Quickly
My 2004 Touareg V10 TDI drives like something's not just quite right, although hard for me to put my finger on. Essentially it feels sluggish, like it doesn't downshift to accelerate as quickly as it should, and like the automatic shifting is slightly jerky. This stuff is all even more noticeable at slower speeds and going up hill, but I think it's true even on city streets.
It's happened a few times, going up a fairly steep hill, that it seems to lose power and I can't get it over 20 or 25 mph even flooring it. Then when I turn the vehicle off and then back on, it can go more or less like normal again. Still, "normal" feels to me like something less than it used to be. I've recently changed the oil and all the filters (air, oil, fuel).
The dealer's service department says they can't find anything and the computer is not giving any error codes, but I know that it's not driving right.
Touareg :: Loud Clunking / Transmission Locking During Downshift At High Speeds
My 2004 V8 egg is currently at 111,000 miles and I'm starting to have problems that are really cause for concern. Since the blue book value on the Touareg is worthless and I've got it paid off, I might as well keep it until the wheels fall off of it. Anyhow, on to the problem at hand ...
When driving on the interstate at high speed somewhere around 80 - 90 mph and you push the accelerator to get that extra bit of speed out of the downshift so you can pass or just for the heck of it, the transmission starts clunking, LOUDLY, which of course causes you to let your foot off the gas. The clunking continues for about 5 - 10 seconds until the car has slowed down a bit.
I can still get the car up to speeds of around 110 mph (my wife tried it just about 15 minutes ago on our way back from Florida), but it has to be done gradually as to keep the transmission from downshifting.
Around town the car responds fine. Occasionally it will have a hard shift, but I can't find a reason or pattern to that. Fifth gear also works fine in city traffic, I've used tiptronic to keep it in 5th and I've also watched the main display change from D4 to D5 to D6 and back again without incident.
I'm too afraid to take the car up to 90 and then engage tiptronic and downshift to 5th. This transmission has had its fair share of problems. I'm on my third stepper motor, the forward transmission seal had to be replaced and then later the hydraulic pump had to be replaced. There are no noticeable fluid stains on the belly pans and there are no stains on my garage floor, so I doubt its leaking fluid. Can you even check the transmission fluid level in this thing?
Other than the transmission problem, the Touareg is behaving fairly well. (Knock on wood) It still rides nice and I've learned to put up with the little electrical anomalies that happen like the blue strobe backlight compass (it's just dancing along with the music) and the lights switching ON in full daylight (with the euro switch installed).
Touareg :: Transmission Won't Downshift Smoothly / Driver Side Seat Trim Cracked
I checked my driver side leather seat (V8) and found that the trim was cracked.
When I slow down my car smoothly when driving, the transmission was not downshifted smoothly after 20K service.
Touareg :: Grabby Brakes Especially When Going Super Slowly Or Stopping Completely
The brakes in my new '05 Treg are really, really touchy, especially when going super slowly (1 mph or less), or stopping completely. I find it almost impossible to bring the entire vehicle to a complete stop without the vehicle "jerking" backwards - if you know what I mean. It's almost like the brakes were being operated by an on/off switch. I got the "nothing can be done, that's how they all are" speech today from my dealer. Any solutions? Different brake pads, maybe?
View 24 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Hard To Downshift While Driving In Regular Drive Mode
My girlfriend has a 2002 passat 1.8t with the tiptronic tranny... its not throwing a cel but while driving in regular drive mode it seems to have problems downshifting... not all the time but sometimes when you get on the gas and the tranny downshifts it slams* the whole car...
The only thing i can describe it as, is being in a manual car and just dropping the clutch in a lower gear with out giving it some gas to match the rpm's... brought the car to vw dealers and such but all say nothing is wrong and it is "normal"...
Touareg :: Drive More Slowly Or Shift To High Differential Error Message
It happened once while I was driving around in low differential. The message read something like:
Drive More Slowly or shift to High Differential
I was only doing about 5mph when this happened and haven't been able to reproduce the error.
This is only the third unique error message my Touareg has shown me in its first 8 months of life. I wonder how many different error messages are programed into this car. (I bet there are many). I'm not being critical. I find it fascinating. I have never driven a car that was so in touch with its inner workings as this Touareg.

View 4 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Squeaking Noise Suddenly While Driving Slowly
Just bought my R32 less than a week ago and suddenly today while driving slowly through my neighborhood I started hearing a squeaking noise like metal to metal. Once the wheel started to spin even a little bit the noise started. It sounded like the disc or wheel or something was moving against another part and it was really loud. I took the wheel out inspected all the parts(I am not a mechanic) and put the wheel back on and the sound went away. What could it be?

I had my minivan stop running while i was on the freeway. My electrical seemed a bit off, the speed decreased and it slowly died. I changed the battery as well and it worked for about 2 days and then it did the same thing. Radio started to flicker, all the lights turned on and the car decreased until it didn't run anymore? What could this be? Bad gearing? A faulty brand new alternator?

View 14 RepliesSubaru - Forester :: Fuel Economy Has Dramatically Decreased
I have an '06 Subaru Forester (4 cyl, automatic) with about 97,000 miles on it. For the past 5 years I've had the car, it's been getting roughly 26-28 mpg on average. Within the past 3-4 months, though, the fuel economy has dramatically decreased. Now, I'm lucky if I get 21 mpg. (I used to be able to get almost 350 miles per tank, and now if I make it to 275 I'm jumping for joy!)
I took my car to the shop for the 90K service, and they didn't change the fuel filter as a part of that service. (They did replace the coolant, replace oil & filter, replace spark plugs, replace differential fluid front & rear, replace brake fluid, replace auto transaxle fluid, and then they did a bunch of inspections on belts, hoses, brakes, etc.)
I took the car back to the shop after this service so they could change the fuel filter, and they told me that because of the type of fuel filter I have, it should last the lifetime of the car. This sounded a little fishy to me, so is this true?
