Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Key Gets Stuck In The Ignition
I have a strange problem with our 2011 Sonata GLS. For one the key gets stuck in the ignition. When this happens we are usually able to put the car in drive and then back in park, to get the key to come out. I have taken the car to the dealership twice, but they are unable to recreate the problem. They told me that you have to turn the wheel to get the key out. Also, when driving the car this weekend the emergency brake light and abs light came on for an entire 20 mile trip, even though the e brake was not engaged. This is also an intermittent problem. The car has 45k miles and so is still under warranty from Hyundai. However the dealership is unwilling to address the issue. I was told that if I bring the car back again for this issue there will be associated charges to me. I am concerned that the car has some type of electrical issue that is going to strand my wife and baby on the highway. We have only had the car 9 months and would love to put this issue to rest.

I have a 2011 Sonate GLS and the key has been getting stuck in the ignition off and on for about a year. When it starts it's occasional and slowly gets more consistent with time. There was indeed a recall about 4 months back, in which the garage told me that they think it may work with what was going on, and it seemed to work for a bit until it recently started becoming consistent again.
The car shifts into PARK and the car rocks back and forward slightly and occasionally I will hear a clicking sound as it rocks, however when I don't hear that sound, I can almost guarantee that the key is going to be stuck. It will turn counterclockwise about 1/3 of the way before locking into place. I can start the car again no problem, and have to typically place it in reverse and drive again and shift, rather violently, into PARK again and pray for a click.
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Pressing Ignition Button Only Give Buzzing And No Turning Of Engine
Today I went out to crank my Sonata SE 2.4. Pressing the ignition button only got me a buzzing and no turning of the engine. We've been out of the country for 2 weeks and the car has been in the garage since then. I have a portable battery booster that I attached to the battery and the car started normally. I drove it for around thirty minutes and switched it off in my driveway. Immediately tried to restart and it would not start. Boosted again and headed to Auto Zone to have the battery tested. Battery tested bad so I had it replaced. The car started immediately so I turned it off and tried to restart as a precaution. No go.... boosted again and cranked fine. The new battery tested out good so we decided that maybe the charge could be low or? maybe we just needed to run it some on the interstate.
I now had a cel on. So we get out onto the interstate and drive about two miles and the engine looses power, limp mode ?. Pull to the side of the road and RPM's at only 1500 with the accelerator to the floor. I was afraid to restart the engine that it would possibly not restart and I'd have to be towed.
Luckily, we were about two miles from the Hyundai dealership so we limped there at 20 MPH. The car is at the dealership now being diagnosed.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Key Stuck In The Ignition
This is the original key that I've used since the car was new. This morning I stopped the car, shifted into PARK, and turned the key to shutoff the engine and accessories. The key turned completely as it should, but the steering wheel did not lock and the key will not come out. I messed with it a bit but with no luck. An usher walking by got in and tried it a few times, but no luck. The car will start and run fine, I just can't get the key out of the ignition.
This also means the key fob won't lock the doors, so I have to leave the key in the ignition and the doors are unlocked. GREAT!! I have an appointment with the dealership on Thursday of this week, until then I'm driving my other car and leaving the Sonata in the garage.
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Radio Does Not Turn Off After Removing Key From Ignition
I have a strange problem with my radio in 2012 Sonata GLS. I sometimes turn on the car and radio makes low pitch noise. I switch off the car but radio stays on making noise and radio display stays lit, I try to turn off the radio - does not work, I press radio buttons - no response - only low pitch noise. In the end I need to disconnect battery and it fixes the problem. This happened 2 or 3 times over last 4 months. I am not sure how I can consistently reproduce the problem.
View 2 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: 2013 - Remote Start With Keyless Ignition
2013 Sonata Limited. I requested that a remote starter be added to a vehicle with keyless ignition. They mentioned that it can't be done, as I would need an extra keyfob that would sit inside the car at all times, and that if I leave the car unlocked, anyone could get in, start it, and drive off with it. That seemed ridiculous to me, so I called another dealer to ask and got essentially the same answer, saying it was not available yet for keyless ignitions.
View 118 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Car Won't Start / No Ignition When Turn The Key To Accessory Mode
I parked my 2011 Sonata yesterday and turned it off.
This morning, I tried turning the car on, but there is no ignition. I can put in the key, turn it to accessory mode (the dash lights up), but once I turn the key further to ignition nothing happens (no noise). I don't think I have a dead battery.
My brother had this problem once before. It has something to do with the fact that the gear is not in 'P'. He managed to start it after he called roadside assistance, but I don't know what he did. The gear is currently at 'P'. I was supposed to go and get my range switch replaced today to fix this but I can't get it out of the driveway.
What I need to do to get it to start?
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Brake Pedal Getting Stuck
So, I have had this weird incident happen a couple times. The first time it happened was probably a month or so after getting the car (2013 Sonata 2.0T Limited). I was parked on our driveway, and it's on an incline. I started it up, but the brake pedal was super hard to push down. Once the car started, everything felt fine, and other than a casual "Huh, that was weird." I didn't really think anything of it. Have been without incident for months.
Then today, it happened twice. Parked in the same spot, started the car fine this time, but I went to turn it around in the driveway and almost took out our shrubs because I went to brake and the pedal was stuck. Pushed down really hard and got the car to stop. Put it in park, and tested the pedal a couple times... everything was fine. Was nervous, but took the car anyways. Happened again in the afternoon. Got out of the store and thought I was going to be stranded in the parking lot because this time the pedal was stuck and at first I couldn't start the car. Luckily, it eased up when I pushed down hard and it started, then all was fine again.
I have done a little looking and saw vacuum booster and master cylinder mentioned for possibilities, though no one's experience that I have seen sounds just like mine, nor did I find any that are Sonata YF specific. I already got my switch recall taken care of, so this is something different. Only 7,000 miles on the car. Gonna bring it in to the dealer this week, but just wanted to crowd source opinions in case they can't replicate the problem. I hate feeling like I can't trust my vehicle... especially when it's almost brand new.
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Right Rear Window Gets Stuck
I've been noticing sometimes that when you try to roll up the right rear window, it won't work. It goes down fine, but sometimes, the button won't make it go up. I'm not sure if it's just the rear switch or both the rear and the driver's switch.
View 5 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Fuel Level Stuck On Zero
I was auto crossing yesterday with about half a tank and I noticed my fuel gauge read 40miles to empty after one of my runs. I filled it back up to the top and it still reads almost empty. Im out of warranty so Is there something I can check before taking to the dealer?
View 20 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: 2012 - Ignition Would Not Turn And Steering Wheel Locked
So this happened 2 times before, I am sure it is something I am doing and not the car.
So i just parked and turned off my car, and i noticed i left my windows up, so i tried to turn the car back on but the ignition would not turn and steering wheel would not move. I pressed harder and harder but it still was locked. My bro told me that same happened to his Civic and to unlock it you have to press on break hard and ignition would unlock, i tried that but nothing happened.
I googled and read online to insert the key into the ignition, try turning the car on and at the same time turn the wheel side to side. I did it and the car unlocked. My question is this, why did it lack in the first place, has this ever happened to you, if so how did you unlock it.
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Keep Turning But Won't Start
I have a 2011 Sonata and have had trouble getting it started. A few days ago it kept turning but wouldn't start. I tried jumping it and nothing. Then it randomly turned on. I thought it was the battery and switched that out today but now it won't start at all. Sounds like it's trying to and then has a noise that keeps going for about 10 seconds after . I've seen other posts about issues with the 2.4L engines and am wondering if I'm having the same problem. I have a video for it here: [URL] .....
View 2 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Low Speed Stall While Turning
2011 GLS 2.4L auto 50K
After many months of trouble free driving, the vehicle has stalled twice at low speed while making a sharp turn. Once turning right, once turning left. Once it was warmed up, and once it was cold. Starts right up again. The vehicle has had all current recalls/tsbs to date including the various steering items except the most recent EPS 143 notice that has no remedy yet.
I will be test driving it myself to see if I can replicate the issue. I am not seeing anything specific on the forums other than maybe the TPS.

View 9 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Thud Noise When Turning
Noticed here lately that my 2011 Sonata LTD started making the thud noise when turning. Dealer says this is under the basic warranty but NHTSA states Power train. This was the service manager telling me this.
View 4 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Clicking When Turning Steering Wheel
I am getting a click from the steering when rocking the wheel left or right. It is coming from the assembly the intermediate shaft is connected to. I see there is a large bearing on the end where the shaft comes out. I am not sure what this assembly is called. I have had it at the dealer and they said they re-torqued everything but they could not duplicate it.
I do not fall in the range for the recall and I have no problem with the car pulling left so I do not think it has anything to do with the intermediate shaft. It is clearly from the assembly the intermediate shaft is connected to on the steering wheel end of the intermediate shaft. 2011 limited
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: 2013 - Remote Not Turning Off Engine
Remote App will not turn engine off, just start it. How Dumb is this to design car to remote start but Not Remote Turn Off???
View 8 RepliesSonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Clunk Noise When Turning Steering Wheel
A few weeks ago I noticed a 'clunk' noise when turning the steering wheel. It only did it the first turn on a trip. Over time it has gotten worse - the sound is the same, but it happens for several turns, maybe 10 or so, before it stops. After the car sits, turned off, for a while, the cycle starts again.
I replaced the rubber coupler on the MDPS, but my old one looked fine, and it made no change in the noise.
Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Slow Crank - Starting After Multiple Tries At Turning The Key
The car basically struggles to crank. Today it failed to completely start. It took multiple tries at turning the key to get it kick and each time the car would chug until it started.
About a month ago, the dealership said she needed a new battery when she took her car in for an oil change. They told her at that time that they found the car to take longer than normal to crank and wanted to charge $80 for a battery, sale price (normally $150 at dealership). She declined at the time.
When I used the car since then it cranked fine, about a good 3-4 seconds. We had the battery tested at discount auto and they found the battery to work fine and out-put more than enough cranking amps.
Last week she was away for a few days and had the car sit untouched. But when she came back she went on a small 100+mile road trip with the car and it ran fine. And when she came back from that, she took the car to do some errands around town. Today, the car took much longer than usual to fully start.
I don't think it's the battery. Possibly something with ignition. Engine turns over, so it is getting adequate power from the battery to the starter. Engine doesn't misfire. No engine-lights on the dashboard, nothing.
