Lexus GS 2006-11 :: Engine Noise At Stop Light Or Standing Outside The Car When Parked
When at a stop light or standing outside of the car while its parked, noticed that the engine noise is particular loud? Almost sounds like a diesel truck, is this normal?

I am following the 7,500 maintenance intervals for oil and filter changes. At about 3,000 miles the color of the oil was golden brown but definitely had started to turn brown but still had a golden tint. Is light brown oil normal for 5,000 miles? The oil level is OK and still near the Full mark.

I had my car drop for a while now on megan ez coilover. Before I bought my new set of wheels, I drove the car with the OEM wheels and they never had any cupping issues. Then after I bought my AME Shallen with 20mm hub centric H&R spacers on Nankang NS, and then they started cupping on the front inside tires after 5000 miles. I had the alignment done and only had the toe adjusted.(don't have camber kit) At first i thought it was the spacers causing the issue, but then I bought Orden's with new Nankang NS and had the toe adjusted to spec's again. Camber is at -3 BTW. Recently i started hearing the same road noise so I inspected the tires and found it was cupping in the front again! I also checked the front end of any damage or worn out bushing and couldn't find any signs of damage. I always keep my tires at 40psi, torque them down evenly, and I'm using hub centric rings. My questions is do you think is the Nankang tires or do I have a suspension problem?

My 2003 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 3.9v6 auto trans does not shift properly. I have to lift my foot off the accelerator for it to shift. If I don't it just screams at a high RPM and sounds as if it is about to blow. It has a hard time making it up a small incline such as an overpass. Truck will not shift properly when going upgrade. Engine will rev at 4500-5000 rpm but will not shift until I slightly release the gas pedal. Truck will also perform multiple hard up shifts when in cruise control going upgrade.
Took the truck to the dealer reprogrammed the computer with a "flash update" that was no dice. The technician is now saying the original shifting problem is normal because dodge reprogrammed the transmission to avoid multiple up & down shifting when going up a grade. This was down to put "less stress" on the transmission. Doesn't make sense, dodge is saving the transmission by making it work less and destroying the engine by letting it rev at 5000 rpm. Automatic transmission will not shift to third gear unless the gas pedal is almost fully released. Transmission will not downshift to pass.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: 2006 (2.4l Engine) Stalls On Red Light
2006 sonata gl with 4-cyl engine. Car runs/feels fine. Installed HID kit a while ago (with harness) and no problem. Driving home late afternoon (with AC on hi) stopped on red light. Radio was on but NO HID lights on - then momentarily car stalls. Starts back up right a way and NO check engine light. Tried AC- works fine, turn the lights on (HID 35w slim balast), radio on - everything is fine.
My "suspect" is old battery (original!) and I think that for a short moment charging system (alternator) could not keep up/charge battery while car was idling with AC and radio on (hi load).
How long is original battery good for (5-6-...yrs)? Looked earlier at Everstart batteries (or was it Eveready brand?) made by Johnson. I could only find a few batteries but they were sitting on the shelf since last summer (sticker said made 07/2010 !). Are they any good?
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Engine Knock And Check Engine Light Came On
I recently got a Sonata from my parents when they moved to Pennsylvania. It's a 2007 with the 2.7 liter engine. It has had low oil for some time, so when I got it (last week) I put more in, up to but not above the full line.
It has had now for just a couple of days a very bad rattle, which is barely audible (but still IS audible) at idle and gets very severe during and after acceleration. It remains for some time even after the gas is no longer being pressed, then subsides a bit. I diagnosed it as knocking, but just today the check engine light came on and the rattle got louder.
I don't have another car to drive and I have class in five hours. Should I drive it or call a cab?
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: 2 Oil Leaks In Engine Bay
Taking a look around my 06 LX with 72k miles I noticed a couple of oil leaks.
First one is on the left hand side of the engine what looks like right above the alternator.
Second one is on a hose at the back left hand side of the engine bay, right in front of the firewall..
This car has had the timing belt chain tensioner fix applied to it about 2 years ago.. other than that its basic service at all the major milestones..Its been in Hyundai dealerships for regular oil changes in the last 6 months and they never noted anything..

I unplugged the battery and left it over night. Started her up and there was no check engine light. I'm thinking it could be because of the CAI I have installed? Took it to autozone and he said it showing no codes.

I just bought a 2010 Sonata. It runs just fine while running and about half of the time while I'm idling. The other half of the time I can feel my engine sputter. At first it wasn't all that bad but it has gotten worse lately. What could be causing this?

I understand that filling up with gas when the car is running is not recommended. I did it once without realizing that it could cause issues. Now I am trying to determine if that action has anything to do with the CEL being on. The codes are P0442 and P0456. The codes have been cleared several times but the light pops back on after a while, anyway from one day to a week later.
Smoke test did not reveal any issues. My question is this, can filling up with the engine running cause any physical problems with any of the EVAP components? What would be the most likely problem? I plan on buying a new gas cap, since it is cheap. I do not wish to spend a lot fixing this problem.

I have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata V6.
The Check Engine light came on days ago. I have tried to re-close the gas cap, it's not it. This morning, I am on my way to bring my daughter to school and maybe 500 feet out of my driveway onto the main road, my car loose it's acceleration power. I pulled over and noticed the ESC light was on. I turned off the engine. Turned it back on. Both lights still on. Rinse...repeat with turning it off and turning it on....this time it worked, ESC light was now off but the Check Engine light was still on. I proceeded back onto the road with no more acceleration problems.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Engine Has Lost A Lot Of Power
I drive a 2007 Sonata GLS with 54k miles on it. Recently, the engine has lost a lot of power and the fuel economy has gone down quite a bit. (20 mpg in mixed driving)
I replaced the engine oil; air filter & oil filter myself (Full Synthetic & FRAM filters). Engine is sounding and driving lot smoother now. However, the power & acceleration are still pretty bad. MPG is slightly better at 21mpg
I would like to change spark plugs myself and see if that will result in any improvements.
1. What spark plugs do you recommend should I use (there are too many brands out there)
2. How difficult is it to change them.
3. How I can get the car to perform better.

I've Sonata 2006 and it's just fine no problems at all, until this problem comes. When I start the car the engine crank but not start, RMPs is jumping to 4 then into 0.. I checked fuel pump, battery and sparks all are good.

When I drive on a hot day the engine overheads; it almost red-lines. This occurs mostly when I drive up long steep hills (I live in the mountains) with the AC on, but even without the AC on very long steep hills (5+ miles) the engine will overheat badly. I can go over a hill and head downhill or flat and things return to normal quickly. I can also drive with the AC on doing 0-80 mph on a flat road and everything is fine all the time.
- Fan is working
- Thermostat has been replaced
- Radiator flushed
- Engine coolant temp sensor replaced
- Heat is working
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Nasty Sound From Engine Bay
So this has been happening for a few months now. When the hood is closed it sounds like a fan with a bad bearing slowing down. I had the hood open today and turned the car off and it scared me. I've only ever heard it faintly since I have never turned the car off before with the hood open. It's definately ALOT louder with the hood open vs. closed...for obvious reasons... (See attached Video).

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Check Engine Light Is On
I just changed out the spark plugs in my 06 Sonata and now the check engine light is on. The car runs fine but I can't find out why the light is on. Is there some reset switch?
