Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Suspension Noise - Creaking / Knocking Sound At The Left Rear
2006 Sonata 2.4 GLS. My car has done 60000 miles and has developed a creaking/knocking (metal on metal clunk) sound at the left rear. it is only noticeable at low speeds when accelerating and decelerating in stop start traffic.
It is not the shock as I have removed the shock and driven the car and the noise is still there, I have also looked at all the bushes and nothing is obvious. I have also checked tightness of all bolts/nuts.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Rear Suspension K-thunk Sound When Pass Over Ridges In Pavement
My 06 Sonata LX 3.3 has me smiling except for two items, MPG, which I hope will improve after break-in, and a "k-thump" sound from the area of both rear tires. It occurs as I pass over fairly small bumps and ridges in the pavement, and remind me of the sound that is made by a bad shock. I took it to the dealer at 900 miles. They drove it and inspected the rear end and proclaimed all was OK. They claim it is caused by the low profile tires. I have never had low profile tires before, but it seems to me if that were the cause, the front tires would make the same sound, but they don't. The front end is sooo quiet. All tires have the recommended 30 PSI.

I have pushed the back windshield, and haven't gotten a peep anywhere, so it's not that. It's coming from the outside, because it is so much louder driving slower with the windows down. It appears to be coming from the rear left of the car. It's a definite "creak," and not a "thunk." Sounds like creepy stairs being walked over repeatedly...I haven't investigated hard enough to really pin point the direct spot, but it would sound to me like it has something to do with the suspension in the back left. However, it's not any more prominent when I hit a bump than it is just accelerating or decelerating, so that also leads me away from it being a suspension issue. I know I should look further into it to locate the spot.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: 2007 - Clunk In The Front Suspension Making Noise While Going Over Small Speed Bumps
I have a 2007 Sonata Ltd (63000 miles) and had a clunk in the front suspension. I had the front upper control arms replaced (which were visually badly worn) and that fixed the problem. But now, a several months later another similar clunking noise has developed when I go over those small speed bumps in parking lots.
View 18 RepliesAccent MC (2006-11) :: Suspension Knocking / Resonant Wobbling Sound With Sunroof Open
1) After 10000km the car started to develop some front suspension knocking sound going over potholes. After three trips to a dealer they finally said that it was a loose stabilizer bar which apparently is "very common". They tightened it and the problem seemed to go away. Now after 40000km the problem seems to have came back. I am starting to think that maybe it is somehow related to cold temperature because it seems to get a little better once the car has been warmed up and it has been going for some time.
I don't really care about the noise, but I want Hyundai to fix it if there really is a problem.
2) When driving 40-60km/h with the sunroof open I get a resonant wobbling sound. If I open one of the windows just a bit it disappears. Sounds like a poor sunroof wind deflector design to me. (I have driven Mazdaz and Hondas with sunroofs and none of them had that problem)
3) Whats up with those super heavy 16' aluminum wheels!!!! Is it just me or it feels like they weigh more then the steel ones? The car even feels faster when I put on my winter tires on steel rims.
Other then that the car has been pretty good. I am not getting anywhere near the factory specified fuel efficiency 6.5-7.5l/100km hwy and 8-9l/100km city, but I do drive it fairly hard, so that is OK. It still amazes me though that my 15yr old civic was getting the same mileage with a comparable performance. You would think that there would be some progress in automotive technology....
Lexus GS 2006-11 :: Knocking Sound From Front Suspension Driver Side - Disappear When Speed Increased
What the defective part could be? GS300 has run 90.000km, sound can be recognized by passing for example gullys or small bumps with speed of ~20km/h. Increasing speed let the sound disappear. I have already replaced stabilizer bar bushes, link assy and lower ball joint assy.

I have a 2006 Sonata LX with 91,000 ,miles and today it starting making a clunk sound when I would accelerate normally as it was going from 2nd to 3rd gear. My question is this: I have 91,000 miles on it and have owned since new in 2005 (8 years). Does it sound like a transmission problem and would a transmission problem be covered under the 10 year, 100,000 miles warranty?
View 4 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Rear And / Or Parking Brake Clunk?
I bought a 2006 Sonata V6 3.3L with 137k on it about a month ago. Engine and Trans is great, but I noticed an issue that developed within the past week and a half or so.
I am one to always engage the parking brake when parked, to relieve pressure on the parking paw in the transmission. After about a week of heavy use of the parking brake, I began to hear a slight 'clunk, clunk, clunk' coming from the rear passenger wheel (it actually sounded like something was loose in the trunk, but ruled it out). The 'clunk' sound at first only happened going over rough or bumpy roads, but within the past week or so it's gotten louder and more consistent. It now 'clunks' regardless of speed or road surface.
I used the parking break today for the first time while the car was in motion, and when pulled it sqreached very loud, didn't really stop the car, but the 'clunk' became very loud while the break was pulled - shockingly loud, actually.
A couple of days ago I took the rear passenger tire off while jacked up, and spun the wheel. With neither the parking or regular breaks engaged, the wheel made a 'clunk' sound very similar to that it makes on the road. Took of the Tire/Rim and spun the Rotor, to hear the same sound. Attempted to wiggle the Rotor and found no play at all.
At first, the clunk went away when you pressed the floor board brake pedal, even just a slight bit stopped the noise. Now it doesn't seem to stop it any longer.
My main idea is that the parking brake in the Rotor is the culprit, given that the issues didn't arise until I started using the parking brake - and the fact that brake appears to not work very well. However, my dad tells me he thinks it's a wheel bearing. I don't think it is - as its not making any metal on metal sounds, nor is it very difficult to rotate the Rotor while jacked up.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Engine Knocking Noise Coming
Few days ago I noticed the noise coming from the engine.
Went to dealership. They removed the oil pan and found metal shavings there .The car has 90,000 miles. They will put a new short block (will be covered by warranty ).
Since they basicaly will disassemble the whole engine, I thought to ask them to replace also drive belts, timing chain tensioner, not sure if the short block comes with the water pump , will ask them . W
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Knocking Sound From Motor After It Warms Up
I have a 2006 Sonata - LOVE this car. Lots of miles on it - 180,000 well cared for and routine maintenance done. I have a knocking sound from the motor AFTER it warms up.. Drives wonderful starts perfect. Mileage good as always.
View 6 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Knocking / Creaking Sound Only In Hot Weather
I have a 2009 Sonata Limited (4 cyl), and since the beginning of the summer, I have had a knocking/creaking type sound coming from both the front AND back of the car, which feels like is coming from underneath. I can feel it in the floor when it gets really hot, and therefore really bad. I hear it almost exclusively while accelerating or coming to a complete stop. When it gets really hot out, I can hear it very slightly while driving at slower speeds, but that's about it. Has no correlation to making turns, as would be the case with a tie rod.
I find it extremely strange that this is happening only in the heat. When it's cooler out, say below 80-85 degrees, there is no sound whatsoever. The car runs phenomenally otherwise, very quiet. Based on some stuff I've read, it seems like a suspension issue is a possibility? I live in a neighborhood with extremely poor roads, and actually live on a dirt road.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Slight Knocking Sound - Possible Bad Rod Bearings?
I have a 2007 sonata 2.4L with 93k miles that has a knocking sounds coming from the bottom of the engine. It seems that it is a bad rod bearing and was caused by low oil levels. I did not know that the oil was that low (3 quarts low) It started about a week ago. I know I'm gonna have to put it on jack stands and drop the oil pan.
By the way, Here is a video I found and it sounds similar to my car. Here's the link : 2.4L Theta Engine Noise - YouTube
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Knocking Sound On Cold Start
2005(its NF model) Sonata 2.4 petrol manual. 75000 miles. On cold start makes knocking sound( sound like Diesel). After coupe of minutes when warms up the knocking sound gone.
Also when i start driving( still on cold engine) i hear that sound only when i let go from gas pedal and only in range of 1800-1500 rpm. When i accelerate i don't hear that knocking sound.
I think is not belt tensioner because sound is much longer than couple of sec.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: 2007 - Knocking Sound From Engine
I own a 07 Hyundai Sonata Limited with 31000 miles. It is 20 degrees today. When I start the car up there is this knocking sound from the engine. Once the car warms up the knocking sound only happens when the car is in drive or reverse. When the car is in park or neutral it is fairly quiet. The sounds is still there but not as loud as in drive or reverse. I have done the routine synthetic blend oil changes between 3500-4500 miles.
View 14 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Pop Clunk Noise When Coming To Stop / Taking Off
My 2007 Sonata V6 limited would produce a pop / clunk sound (sometimes 2-3 in succession) under these circumstances
- Car is coming to a stop (brake applied)
- When I release my brakes, press on the accelerator, a pop / clunk sound would ensue
It doesn't happen all the time. I noticed it's more prevalent when it's hot outside or when I've driven the car for a little bit
My mechanic re-tightened the subframe bolts and visually checked bushings / ball joints but everything seems tight.

View 6 RepliesGolf/GTI VII :: Knocking Sound Coming From Rear On Every Tire Revolution
I hadn't driven my new GTI (DSG w/PP) for the last month. It was regularly started but not driven. Took it out today and noticed a knocking sound coming from the rear that could be heard every tire revolution. Distinct sound, not metal to metal as if a caliper had hung up. Noise in forward only not reverse. Nothing interfering with tire revolution. Needless I'm not driving until I get it checked out. What it could be?
View 2 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Rear Thunk / Knocking When Braking
Alright so my 06 is at about 102,xxx right now and has given me no major issues (knock on wood) besides this stupid noise that I cant pin point to fix. So far I've narrowed it down to this, sounds like its coming from the right rear and usually only happens when I am slowing down and or braking. Ive also taken note that it only happens when its really hot outside , all signs have been pointing to the rotors and brakes but i need some thoughts/opinions on what else it could be before i shell out almost $200 to get my brakes fixed. Here are some more details about the car
Rear pads replaced sometime last year they still have meat on them but i did not replace rotors nor did i get them turned.
I am sure that the noise is coming from the rear, ive been half way in the trunk while my buddy drove and i hear it coming from right rear.
Shocks have been replaced (noise was occurring before replacing them)
Nothing seems loose everything seems to be tightened down right.
Tires are brand new (noise was there before getting tires and after)
Mufflers are secured normal wiggle mounts look good.
Emergency Shoes have never been replaced but look ok.
Wheel hub looked great when i took it apart (Looks new doubt its that)
It happens when I am braking from 35mph below or sometimes 0 to 35 40mph rolling no braking then it goes away.
