Ram / SRT10 :: 2006 - Transmission Leak When Parked With Front End Downhill
My 2006 Ram 2500 w/Auto Trans leaks ATF when parked with the front end downhill. On the level its okay. Looking under the vehicle, it appears to be leaking where the dipstick tube enters the case at the front of the transmission. The tube is held to the case by a single bolt and apparently there are other bolts higher up that I can't easily see. I'd like to remove the dipstick tube and replace the gasket or whatever seal that seems to have failed.
What seals the tube at the trans case? Gasket? O-ring? Silicon glue?
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Car Is Not Starting After Parked For An Hour
OK, so I was gone for about a week and my Sonata's been sitting in the basement the whole time. When I went to start it this morning, the starter spins for about two fires then stops. I release the key, try again and it's fine. Once I got to work, I killed it then started it again and it was fine. I'll be heading home in about 30 minutes to see if it does it once again. It shouldn't be due to the cold; it's about 50-60*F in the basement. It turned over just fine, so it wasn't battery or power related. I'm hoping it was just some kind of fluke, but I'm also paranoid after seeing the recent surge of Sonata problems.
Oh yeah, and last time I went on a trip both my cars had problems. The Sonata had a leaking tire and the Jeep had a failing alternator. Now my jeep gets backed into while at the parking lot and my Sonata doesn't start the first try.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Shaky Like It Is Switching Gears While Parked When AC On
I have a Sonata 08. I have recently installed a 740W amp and HID lights. During the Winter everything worked fine with just the amp. I then decided to install HIDs. I have a relay and a capacitor on them. but I have a weird power problem. Sometimes when I have my AC running the engine shuts off when I turn on my lights. It feels like a surge. I have to restart the car. Also while the AC runs the car feels a little shaky like it is switching gears while parked. What's going on?

So I was sitting in my car, running, parked with the ac on and out of no where I got an electrical/burning smell coming from the vents. My volts were reading 12 with ac on at idle but once my rpms reach about 7-800 it goes back to 14. My question is what was that smell? I've had 2 alternators go on this car (power draining aftermarket accessories 3.3 v6) and have driven the car for about 2 hours collective time since the problem started (usually alternator goes quick) and haven't noticed any lights dimming, ac blows cold, system still plays full tilt. could a bad compressor be causing putting some stress on the car?

Yesterday I was stuck in traffic an smelled a burning oil smell. I thought I was the car in front of me so thought nothing of it. Later in the day as i was sitting and idling i smelled it again so knew it was my car. I came home took of the plastic covers and checked under the engine and oil filter everything was dry and clean. I checked topside could not find anything there either, very clean and no signs of oil or fluid. I can only smell it when parked or stuck in traffic while driving I don't smell anything. Usually happens when I have driven several miles.

After hitting 100K mile, every single time I fill her up, I smell strong gas smell around my gas cap area. And yesterday I was about to see my friend around 6pm and check what I found. Gas was leaking under the car. I don't know what is happening and I did all my maintain whenever it come.
View 5 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Leak At Timing Cover Gasket
Was told my Sonata has a leak at the Timing Cover Gasket by two different service stations. Took it to the Hyundai Dealership and they said they would need to pull the engine out to fix it and it would take a couple of days. I read on a couple of other posts that people were able to replace the timing cover gasket themselves. So, I don't understand why the Dealership said the engine would need to be pulled, but I'm reading others say they fixed it without pulling the engine. Am I missing something...? I'd rather not have the engine pulled out if it doesn't need to be.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Power Steering Hose Leak?
I've got a 2006 Sonata LX, that has been leaking PS fluid for a while, but has gotten quite a bit worse lately. I finally put it up on ramps, and crawled underneath, and from what I can see, I think it's leaking from the pressure hose someplace.
The hose is covered with some type of a silver wrap. I wiped everything down as much as I could with a rag, waited for an hour, then crawled back underneath. There was some new fluid on the hose wrapping right above where it goes into the steering gear box (the driver-side leg of the hose).
Does this sound like it could be the hose? Would it be ok to remove the protective wrap to make sure? it's only wire-tied on to secure it, so I don't see why not.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: 2007 - Valve Cover Leak
I have a 07 Sonata and having recurring valve cover leak. First time it happened it leaked onto my alternator and had to get car towed and whole bit. About a year later they discovered it again during routine oil change and had it fixed again. Yesterday during a routine oil change, they discovered a leak again!! I know this is an established problem but how many times can the same problem occur?? I'm passed the warranty (103K).
View 3 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: 2007 - Slow Coolant Leak
My son has a 2007 sonata v6, daughter has one too. Both have about 130K miles, and both developed slow coolant drip leaks. I took off both hoses on both cars, cleaned the crud from the housings and replaced with new hoses and clamps. Problems solved in daughter's car, not so in sons car. I note that it looks like the area below the thermostat housing is wet - and thought that was from the crud/hose situation. But he is still losing coolant, even more now that its getting colder at night, and I's sure its not the hose connection anymore.
The car will generally NOT leak when hot, only as/when it cools off. I.e. puddle in the morning situation.
Looking at the diagrams, it looks like that "housing" is really a connection to the crossover pipe, heater hoses, other stuff (throttle body heat) and also contains what looks like a temp sensor.
I suppose any of these are possible, but my first thought was either a leaky temp sensor (or possibly loose) or something more serious like a cracked housing, leaking o-ring, gasket etc.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Engine Overheated / No Hot Air In Cabin / Leak In AC System?
Sonata 2007, SE, V6 3.3 engine, 110000m .... I was driving today on a highway and 5 miles from home notice no hot air coming in cabin. Outside temp was 20 degree. Accidentally AC button must been pushed since the light was on. Engine temp gauge was off and few times it jumped from off (as in completely cold engine) to overheated (max top value). Drove back home and let it cool. I can see there is no coolant left. Obvious there is leak somewhere but the only visible spot is on the passenger side, towards the front of the engine compartment - seems like the leak is from the AC coolant hose between the front and the low pressure service port - or the AC pressure transducer.
Antifreeze can be seen under that part, but is clear that it has not come from the overflow reservoir or any main hose. Is there antifreeze flowing on those parts or should I look at somewhere else? Coolant splash seems too high to be from the water pump - definitely seems as leak from above on one of the hoses or the A/C Pressure transducer. Can this be the primary reason or this is just safety due to other (thermostat or other) issue with the cooling system? What can be done?
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Small Leak From Upper Radiator Hose
I smelled antifreeze when walking by my fiances Sonata, so I popped the hood and saw there was a small leak from the upper radiator hose, where it meets the thermostat housing. I adjusted the stock clamp, but the leak was much worse.
I swapped it out for new clamp that you can tighten, and all is well again. But, what I noticed when I had it off was that the metal neck of the housing was really corroded. Only 15,000 on the car, so I was surprised to see that the corrosion on the metal had already built up causing the leak (pushing the hose away from the housing). I scraped and scuffed to get it clean again, but just wanted to give you all the heads up in case you notice a leak in the same area. The antifreeze tested good and is really clean.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: P0456 Code - Small Evap Leak Detected

I have an 06 sonata 2.4l--last week the CEL came on so I took it to my mechanic and he said it was p0455 which is a large vapor leak in fuel assembly. We tried tightening the gas cap and resetting the code with a scanner but it came back on a day or two later. I have never overfilled my tank and i do not smell gas anywhere. the only real symptom (maybe non related)is my speedometer , it works but it is just a little slow to react when increasing or decreasing speed.---my gas mileage seems to be normal.We got under the car and looked around and couldn't notice any obvious tears in any lines -- should i try buying a new gas cap?--I was thinking it may be speed sensor but my mechanic said if it was the speed sensor , my tranny should be shifting funny , my trans shifts fine. I am at a loss and don't want to have to go to dealer with this.

View 2 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Valve Cover Gasket Leak But Minor As Dirt Stick To It
I'm suspecting a small valve cover gasket leak. I've noticed dirt starting to accumulate near the alternator side of the front valve cover, there is dirt on there stuck to oil, I don't see any wet oil but its so minor the dirt just sticks to it. 107k miles here. Seems to be a common problem. I think Downhiller had a large oil leak, source unknown around his crank pulley area. You wouldn't think a car this young would leak oil. It's not bad, I havn't had to top any off I just like a mildly clean engine.
