Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Occasional Hiss / Very High Pitched Squeal
While driving, I occasionally hear a hiss, which seems to be a/c related. but just recently, I've heard an extremely high-pitched squeal/whistle. So high-pitched I had to slow down, turn off the music, and tell my wife to stop talking :P to hear it. Brakes are not being pressed. Definitely not a brake problem. How do I know? I parked the car, with engine running, opened the hood, and looked for the sound. nothing. I turned off the car and was walking inside when i heard it whistling behind me, mockingly. it stopped shortly after.
I'm thinking it might be a/c related, or some kind of pressure hose. (a/c is working fine otherwise, as far as i know). It's not air leaking from the tire. I've heard it on and off for about a week and the tire pressure is fine.
I'm more mechanical with computers than cars, but i have a basic understanding. it seems to be coming from the driver side, under the dash/under the hood.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Intermittent High Pitched Squeal Coming From Passenger Front Wheel
2007 Sonata SE, 74,000 miles
Just took the car in for brake service (not the dealership) because of what I was convinced was a brake pad sensor warning sound - something I've heard with other cars I've had, and been correct about. However, the tech said the pads were fine.
The sound is a high pitched squeal, intermittent, coming from the passenger front wheel. It can be heard when coasting at moderate speed (30 mph or so), not so much when accelerating, and especially when turning left. It got worse today, with a low grinding sound at moderately slow braking speed that started after about two hours of start and stop driving (house hunting). The car has needed a couple re-alignments and will have to get checked for possible camber? adjustment (rear tires wore badly on outside edges, far less pronounced on front tires). Car has tendency to pull to the right.
Any thoughts on a main culprit here for the squealing-grinding noise or about the possible inter-relatedness of symptoms.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: High-pitch Whine At Highway Speeds
When I'm driving at a certain speed (usually between 65-70 mph), my 06 Sonata GLS V6 develops a really soft (but really annoying) high-pitched whine that decreases when you take your foot off the gas. Not much at other speeds (sometimes it will kick in real quick at high rpm before the automatic trans shifts), but when the car hits 66-67 mph that little subtle whine kicks in. By 75 mph, it's gone (I drive 75+). Sounds just like a high-pitched dog whistle.
Not a wind noise....sometimes it sounds like it comes from below me, sometimes it sounds like it's coming from the dash. Dealer don't hear anything (of course), even when I'm in the car with the tech and can hear it (maybe I'm part dog.....who knows).
Here's my guess.......I think that it's the electric fuel pump. Sometimes if I'm outside the car, I'll hear a whine back in the fuel area that is almost the same pitch as the whine I hear at 70. Since the whine varies (or disappears) with engine rpm and application of the gas pedal, my thought is that I'm hearing the fuel pump hit a certain pitch, which causes the whine.

Prius (Gen 2) :: 04 High Pitched Whistling Noise Comes At Highway Speeds
Car suddenly started a high pitched whistling noise/metal on metal sound at highway speeds. It is intermittent, no noticeable pattern w/acceleration or braking. Similar sound at lower volume when the shock/spring is depressed (pushing down on that corner of the car). Louder at low speeds.

I just purchased a 99 Rodeo 4X4 with the 5-speed stick. It makes an intermittent high pitched squealing noise at highway speeds. This noise comes up through the floor right about where the center console glove box is. In fact, it really sounds like it is coming from the console glove box.
View 1 RepliesHyundai - Elantra :: Intermittent High Pitched Squealing Noise At Highway Speeds
My girlfriend's Elantra (mid 90s model, I think) makes an intermittent noise when on the highway. It sounds to me like it could either be from friction or some sort of wind noise, but I suspect it's the former. It only seems to happen at speeds above 50 or so. When it occurs, it is always the same pitch and loudness -- these don't seem to vary. It's rather loud, to the point where it is pretty unpleasant to drive when this is going on. It has happened both when my foot is on and off the gas pedal. When the noise happens, it can last anywhere from just a second to up to a minute or more. I haven't been able to identify anything obvious that it's correlated with -- wind direction, grade of road, etc. The only thing I do know is that it only seems to happen at highway speeds. We never hear it during city driving. So far one mechanic has confidently misdiagnosed the problem as a bad wheel bearing.

I have a 2006 accent 1.6l dohc. While doing highway speeds the rpms are very high considering the small engine. There for it give me a result of bad fuel mileage with 480km per 40l tank. I'm curious is there is any 6speed transmission I can swap out my 5 speed with in order to give me that extra gear to bring the rpms down.

I have had a 2010 Sonata for about a year and a half. Love this car! I had my brakes and rear driver caliper replaced about a week ago. Now my car makes a sort of high pitched noise when I apply my brakes and I'm almost stopped.
View 2 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: High Pitched Whining Noise While Driving The Car
After it has been sitting overnight, I hear a somewhat high pitched whine while driving the car. It seems to go away after the car warms up a bit (maybe I can't hear it). Here are a few other details
a. 2006 Sonata 3.3 V6, ~85K miles on the odo
b. Transmission fluid flushed at Valvoline ~2 weeks ago. I changed it at 39K miles when I bought it. Checked at 78k miles and the color was was good (light red).
c. The noise goes up and down with engine rpm. I have a sound (wav) recording of it, but cannot figure how to attach it.
d. I tried putting it in park and neutral and revving the cold engine, but cannot hear the whine-only happens in drive.
e. Engine oil changed every 3-5k (wife drives it, so I'm not always prompt).
It shifts smoothly (always has) and otherwise drives well.
Passat (B6) :: High-pitched Squeal Under Hood When AC On
Driving yesterday with A/C on & I start to hear this high-pitched squeal from the engine compartment. It sounds like an annoying cell phone ringing constantly.
It only occurs in motion under full or partial engine load (or in drive w/ PB engaged) with the A/C on. It's coming from the front of the engine compartment.
Golf V R32 :: Loud High Pitched Squeal
While driving home tonight in the snow, about half away home I noticed the most god awful high pitched squeal sound coming from what sounded like the back passenger side of the car. The squeal was so loud it made me cringe. I couldn't really get any near 40 mph because I could hear it start and instantly it would become really loud and would only stop when I slow down almost completely and then maintain a speed around 30 mph. It's pitch black out so I couldn't conduct a real thorough inspection however a quick look over and I didn't see anything wrong.
View 22 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Sputtering At Highway Speeds
My vehicle works absolutely beautifully except between 75 and 105 km/hr where I experience sputtering. This does not happen under load but just when I am maintaining a constant speed. It feels like misfires but I don't get a check engine light when it occurs. Misfires would definitely trigger the check engine light. I've tried the obvious solutions:
Used fuel system cleaner in case I got a bad tank of gas
Used fuel additive to eliminate any water in the tank
Changed the oil and filter (it was due anyway)
Replaced the air filter (it was also due)
Cleaned the MAF Sensor
Replaced the spark plugs
None of this has made any appreciable difference in the performance of the vehicle. The sputtering persists.
The car does not have traditional spark plug wires. Instead it has ignition coils which run about $140 each from the dealership. I may eventually have to change one or more coils but I'll try cheaper solutions first.
My next step is to replace the crankshaft position sensor. You may have noticed that I am problem solving starting with the least expensive solution and progressing to more expensive repairs.
Accent MC (2006-11) :: High Revs When Driving At Highway Speeds
I just bought a 2011 accent 5 spd ... Quick question, when I drive it at highways speeds. (65mph) I notice that i am running around 3500 revs. Is that normal? It seems a little high to me. Every other 4 banger I had never ran that high in 5th gear at 65 mph.
View 5 RepliesKia Rio :: 2009 - High Pitched Squeal When Brakes Applied
I recently purchased a used 2009 Kia Rio. I really am enjoying the car. While there is nothing fancy to it, it gets me to and from work and that's basically what I need. However, when I apply the brakes, there is a high-pitched squeal that is made until the car is almost at a stop. It does this I would say 90% of the time. The brakes work just fine and are in fact very sensitive. I've tried researching this online and it seems a lot of people have this problem because of the type of brake pad used. The dealership I purchased it from is more than an hour away from my home, so I am reluctant to drive down there if there really is nothing that will be done.

View 20 RepliesLexus IS 2014+ :: High Pitched Squeal From Passenger Wheel Well
So, last week, I heard this high pitched squeal coming from the wheel well. At low speeds it seemed. It was in a parking garage.
But then, it disappeared. All of a sudden, I'm reversing into a spot barely touching the brake and it's squealing again.
I then take it again for a spin around the garage, no sound. I reverse again, no sound.
A few days later, I'm pulling out of the garage and the sound is so loud my GF could hear it from within another car behind me. It squeals until I start going faster and I'm on the highway. I get to my destination, ask my friend who is good with cars to check it out. But of course, I couldn't recreate the sound. Tried going slow, backing up, braking, going faster, etc.
So, do you know of a sound that would be very loud one day and completely go away the next? I saw some things about a shim or clip on the brake pad possibly touching the rotor or is loose?
Touareg :: High Pitched Squeal From Right Front Wheel Well Area
I did a search for this symptom but didn't see anything that sounded right... High pitched squeal from right front wheel well area (sounds like a tea kettle actually).
Starts at 10+mph and is speed variable (faster=louder)... but not effected by applying the brakes (so doesn't seem to be related to the brake assembly)... It doesn't happen all the time... but getting more frequent... annoying...
wheel bearing?
air suspension?

Golf/GTI VI :: High Pitched Squeal When Roll The Passenger Window Up Or Down
I bought the 2 door 2012 Golf 3 weeks ago and I noticed that whenever I roll the passenger window up or down, there is a high pitched squeal somewhere, I think out of the speakers. It's kind of annoying. If I knew the problem, I could just add a low pass filter, but I don't want to really go that route.
