Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Loud Grinding Noise When Press Down On Clutch
I have a 2009 Hyundai sonata, 2.4, 5 speed manual, gls, when I press down on clutch whether from a stop or when shifting, I get a loud grinding noise and the radio goes dead at same time!, I know it is the starter attempting to "engage", at least that's what I believe it to be, it also "'starts "from, the "on " position when I press on clutch.
View 8 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Grinding Noise That Would Stop When Press The Clutch In
Long story..couple months ago while coming home my 08 Sonata 2.4L manual 84,000 miles...started making this grinding noise and would stop when I pressed the clutch in and then sounded like something was grinding near the passenger front wheel.. well I get it home and the next morning my husband and I ride up the road so he can hear it.. was going to take it to the shop but it stopped and ran just fine till the other day.. crank the car and its fine.. once it gets warmed up and a few miles down the road it makes a knocking noise...but only when I let off the gas or idling .. even pressing on the gas just a tiny bit made it stop (even tried in while parked in the driveway with the hood up to make sure the engine wasn't just drowning it out) well I took it to the local dealership today and they said it was the flywheel and that it and the clutch and bearing needed to be replaced..
View 3 RepliesAccent LC (2000-05) :: Light Grinding Noise When Let The Clutch Out / Pedal Super Hard
Yesterday I was driving home and my clutch started acting up. To start I was unable to press the pedal. The pedal was super hard, then let up but didn't feel right.
I removed the slave and the pedal went down fine. Both the master and the slave have no leaking and fluid levels are good. I haven't been able to have a buddy look at the levels when I press the clutch, but....
Here is a little more, the car shifts fine with the car off, it goes into all the gears, but with the car on it will not shift into gear. Also there is a light grinding noise when I let the clutch out..
I ordered a clutch kit already, but don't want to pull the trans if I don't have to, I would love to hear the issue is with the master or slave.....

Steering - Pontiac - G6 :: 2006 - Rhythmic Metallic Grinding Noise Coming From Driver Side Front End
I've been hearing a rhythmic, metallic ringy grinding noise coming from the driver side front end of the car that seems to be in time with wheel rotation. It happens between 5 and 40mph, worsens while the steering wheel is turned even the slightest to the right, goes away completely during left turns, reduces and becomes intermittent above 45mph, and between 0 and 5mph, as I turn the wheel to the right from any position, I hear squeaking. I recently had the front control arm, ball joints and struts replaced. It has 140k miles. What could it be?
View 4 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: 2009 GLS Clutch Pedal Went Down Then Popped Up
Recently, I clutched, the pedal went down, thought I heard something a little crunchy and then the pedal "popped" up. The clutch has been different since. Sometimes difficult to get in and out of gear. Have to double clutch. The first inch and a half of pedal has no resistance. When I release the pedal it pops up. You can hear it. It never stays down. I don't have to bring it up. Local garage thought it was something in the clutch itself. Otherwise clutch is tight. No slippage. Could it be in the hydraulics? Do we have to pull tranny to replace slave? It's not getting better and I want to fix before it gets worse. Car has about 100,000 miles.
View 1 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Metallic Knocking Engine Noise
I have a 2006 Sonata GL, 2.4L, manual transmission, with about 130K miles. It has recently developed a knocking noise. The noise sounds metallic.
Some data: timing chain, guides, tensioner are all new, the noise is not coming from there.
Compression tests on the 4 cylinders came back with 200, 200, 180, and 200 psi readings. Tests were performed 3 different times, same gauge, all numbers came back the same.
The noise comes on only under acceleration (gas is supplied), and even then it's not consistent. For example, accelerating at 2500 rpm will make the noise, but the noise will go away at, say, 3000 rpm, while accelerating. Then again, the same thing can happen at 3200 rpm: accelerating will cause the noise, but up to a point, beyond which the noise goes away. The noise is not present at idle. I can always make the noise heard, just not consistently at the same rpm range.
I ran the engine with one spark plug disconnected at a time: the noise goes away when the #3 cylinder spark is disconnected.
Opinions vary: wrist pin, piston slap, rod bearing, etc.
Any tests I could run to narrow the problem? It has been difficult to pinpoint where the noise is coming from with a stethoscope...
Oil changes have been very regular (3.5K), using Mobil 1. Nevertheless, it has been burning oil.
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Metallic Grinding / Friction When Gas Pedal Pressed
I bought my SF 2013 Limited just less than 3 weeks ago. The car was fine but now all of sudden started to emit metallic grinding/friction noise when I press the gas pedal.
Dealer tech thought that it is bad drive shaft, but after changing it, it didn't solve the problem. Thought that rotor splash guards and maybe pads were to tight, that still didn't solve it.
To put this in perspective:
The sound comes only when I press the gas pedal and increases with the speed. It sound like cymbals and with speed it sound like a cricket. Noise comes from the bottom of the car and you can only hear it if your windows are down and car is passing sound reflection objects on the side, like other cars, concrete dividers, or parked vehicles.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Clicking Or Crunching Sound When Pushing Clutch Pedal Down
M/T 2010 Sonata. I'm just out of warranty at 102,000 mi. No issues before with clutch. I noticed a clicking or crunching sound when pushing the clutch pedal down. I took a gander and noticed the pedal was traveling farther than it used to because there were indentations in the carpet. So this happens for about 3 days. Then I start the car and cant get it into gear. If I shut it off, it easily goes into gear and I can drive. Usually it is ok after that point but is getting worse. Mechanic briefly tried to bleed it but the pedal stayed on the floor. He was able to get it to its original problem but said if he replaces the master & slave cyl then might as well do a new clutch. Because I had no slippage, no pedal issues or anything prior to clicking. Is 102k miles and 6 years usual time for these components to fail?
View 2 RepliesSonata I45 (LF 2015+) :: Grinding / Metallic Sound Under Acceleration?
I have been having a grinding/metallic sound when going up hills in 4th/5th gear. It sounds like if you threw metal into moving parts. I believe it's coming from my engine or transmission. When i was at the dealer last month for a campaign and ecm upgrade i mentioned this problem and they replaced the vcm motor assy, however the problem still exists. What could be causing this problem?

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Alternator Went Out And Noise Upon Starting For 6 Seconds
My alternator went out , don't have the cash to pay a mechanic to do it for me. How to go about this the best way??!
Noticed that strange rattling sound upon starting up ?? I have a 2006 Sonata V6 . At first I thought it was normal I listened to other sonatas heard the same thing, but I don't think its normal googled it found some info but no clear answer , any way to fix it?
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Clunking Noise Only When Warmed Up For About 40 Seconds
I own a 2007 Sonata 2.4l GLS with 120,500miles on it. In the past three weeks (recently after oil change) its developed a clunking noise only when warmed up (about 40 seconds). I purchased this car beginning of August and it had no noise then. I changed the oil with 10w30 castrol hm oil (the dealer I bought it from stated they put in same viscosity although oil cap reads 5w20 manual says 5w30 is acceptable) . Ive had it checked out by mechanics who have no clue what it is and want to tear down the engine. The noise goes away if it revs a bit higher that 1200rpm and then cones back worse when revving down until idle where its not as bad again. I've changed spark plugs (they were factory anyways) and ran premium fuel and even bought a Hyundai filter afterwards hoping it would work but to no avail. I have a video sound clip where its clearly audible Sonata Ticking Noise - YouTube .

Just put on eibachs and car is randomly making a grinding noise when slowly accelerating or braking.. Also noticing a fairly loud clicking noise when going in reverse. The noise isn't consistent and seems to happen more right after startup. I haven't gotten the alignment done yet and was wondering if this could be the problem. Will try and post a video soon.
View 8 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: V6 - Grinding Noise On Startup
I just bought a 2006 Sonata LX V6 a few days ago and in almost every way it seems like a great car. My '08 GLS V6 which gave me 150k great miles got totaled in November, which really sucks, but I wanted to find another '06-'08 V6. I noticed when I started it for the test drive that the car made a bit of a grinding noise on start up. I didn't think much of it and figured that the warranty from the dealership would cover any problems.(I probably should've checked earlier, but the dealership's warranty only covers cam and lifter noise and engine failure) After I looked into the issue more, I found out that it is a fairly common problem on the early 3.3's with the timing chain tensioners. I'm pretty concerned based on just the nature of the repairs and the cost I've seen for them.
I'm the third owner so the 5 year/60k warranty is expired, but I know there is a TSB out for the issue. I can't find the TSB anywhere but I've heard to have it repaired the car has to make the noise on start, sit 10 minutes, and make the noise again. If it does, the oil needs to be changed and the test repeated again. Since I'm running Hyundai 5W-20 and an OEM filter already, I tried the test on my own. It made the noise on start, sat 10 minutes, and made it again. It is only for a couple seconds, but it's still concerning to me. I guess what I'm trying to ask is if what I've described is covered under the TSB. I really don't wanna have to worry about something like that right now, so my next question is whether the issue I have is detrimental to the motor. My worst fear would be to have the chain jump a cog on the cam gear and slam valves into pistons.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Clutch Noise In Neutral
So I was visiting my brother yesterday and he was standing beside the car when I started it (in first gear, clutch disengaged). When I put the car in neutral and let the clutch out he asked if I had heard the noise it made. Makes it when the clutch is engaged (ie, pedal up) but not when engaged, so I can safely say it's not the throw-out, which would be noisy when clutch disengaged. Kind of a rattling noise, nothing really loud but is noticeable. Could this be something to do with the dreaded dual mass flywheel? Wouldn't imagine it has anything to do with the clutch disc as it would be held tight when the clutch is engaged.
View 2 RepliesGolf/GTI VII :: 1st To 2nd Gear Grinding When Let Out The Clutch Pedal At Any Speed
MK7 with 15k miles... This morning on my commute into work, I started having some clutch issues. When I would try to go into 2nd gear from 1st at any speed, it would grind when I would let out the clutch pedal. It was like it didn't fully engage and if I pushed the pedal back in and tried to get it in 2nd, it would grind. All other gears were fine. I don't drive the car hard so I don't think I torched the clutch.
Synchros? Shift Alignment if these models have that? Pressure Plate?
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Grinding Noise At Cold Startup
Need to determine the noise before I took the vehicle in to be serviced. I don't know if I would necessarily describe this as grinding...to me it doesn't sound like metal on metal..but it's not normal.
Only happens on a cold startup, and even then it hasn't been 100% of the time...probably 80% of the time though.

Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Grinding Noise Only Occur When Car Is Moving
Have a '06 V6 GLS w/ approx 105K miles. About a week ago I started hearing a noise. The noise sounds a lot like a brake pad wear indicator, metal grinding on metal. However, the noise does not seem to be related to use of the brakes. The noise only occurs when the car is moving. It is intermittent. Comes from the front of the car. Seems to usually occur when making a sweeping or gentle right turn. Speed does not seem to matter - can be going 20 to 60 mph. Noise will last from less than a second to as much as 5 to 10 seconds and then goes away.
I have taken a cursory look at the crankshaft damper pulley and it appears to be ok...
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Grinding And Banging Noise When Driving At Low Speeds
A few days ago, my Sonata 2006 LX started making weird noises when driving at low speeds. The noise comes from the front driver's side area, they are not affected by steering or going over bumps. Usually get less intense when I accelerate or brake. At speeds around 5 mph, the noise is grinding and pretty loud. At higher speeds, it's more like banging and it's frequency increases with the speed. There was no effect other than the noise, but the last day at higher speeds, I can feel with the steering wheel a little vibration sometimes from the banging.
I've been having tough times renting a car during the weekend and I still drive on short distances, but I'm afraid it could be a safety issue or that I can be making things much worse to repair. The noises got worse since the beginning, but I don't think they are getting any worse anymore.
