Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Occasional Loss Of Power Steering While Driving
I've got about 80K miles on my '06 Sonata and the weather conditions were on the very wet side.
At first I thought I heard a squealing sound which I just credited to either a radio or windshield wiper sound while cruising through some twisty coastal roads. The rain was coming down pretty good and a small amount of standing water of already on the road.
As I continued my drive I began to notice an occasional loss of power steering for a split second through some turns accompanied by that same belt squealing sound. At the same time the battery light also came on for a split second which indicated to me possible engine failure for a split second. Even though it was for only a split second it really freaked me out to think I could end up crossing the center lane or over into the ditch. I then slowed my pace for the rest of the trip. When I stopped for gas I popped the hood and things appeared to be normal and with plenty of power steering fluid.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Occasional Power Steering Loss Right After Slowing Down From Highway Speed
My 2006 Sonata V6 (88k miles) has an occasional power steering loss. It has only been noticed right after slowing down from highway speed. Total loss for a few seconds then comes back. No dash lights or noises, just cant steer - then can. Did all required maint. until 60k then just oil changes by me. Have read other forums about fluid flush, but that was for noise and I don't have any noise. This has happened with and without the Electronic Stability Control turned on. Other than that, runs great. MPG is about 25 or so (wish was 30 or so).
View 9 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: 2007 - CEL / Sounds Like A Diesel And Loss Of Power
I have a 2007 Sonata GL. So tonight after work when getting into car to go home I noticed my CEL came on, also as I was driving at low speeds/rpm I noticed the car really sounded like it has a diesel engine in it. At higher speeds on the highway I noticed it has some loss of power and the diesel sound went away. CEL stayed on.
The CEL light I am pretty sure is the OCV which I havent replaced yet. So my question is: Can the OCV cause the car to sound like a diesel and have loss of power is that caused by something else?
Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Loss Of Power Steering
So, I experienced a brief loss of power steering yesterday that was rather startling, then today I hear about a recall on other models for the exact issue.
View 3 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Loss Of Power / Rev Up When Pushed The Gas
well I don't exactly know if that's what I should call it... I was driving last night around 10 and I pushed the gas down 3/4 of the way or so to pass around this car but instead of downshifting and accelerating, it just revved up all the way, i kept hitting the gas and it was like revving it in neutral then it kicked back into gear... should i be concerned? It was fine the rest of the night but I wasn't driving it hard.
View 1 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Loss Of Power - Car Barely Goes
What's going on with my sonata. Its an 06 GLS 4 cylinder, 168k miles. I've actually had the problem before, and it lasted maybe about a week or two before the car went back to normal by itself. But a couple days ago it has returned. The car barely goes! All it wants to do is rev and not go. Coming from a complete stop is the worse, as it takes me forever to get up there in speed. I already feel like a danger on the road by sometimes not being able to keep up with traffic. Once I get up there in speed I'm able to keep it at that. I thought it was maybe the spark plugs last time, so I changed them, but that didn't seem to be it. I know the car has electrical issues, now I'm just thinking its that since its done it before and went back to normal. I took a video to get a better idea of what its like. [URL] ....

I was cruising on the highway and tried to accelerate and no more power. Could feel engine losing power. After I shutdown the car and start again, car was fine.
View 3 RepliesSanta Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Oil Light Came On - Immediate Loss Of Power Braking And Steering
Driving 30 mph, oil light came on, immediate loss of power braking and steering. Engine did not stop, oil light disappeared yet still had loss of power steering and brakes. Still in D. Policeman had to stand on brake pedal to get into Park so that engine could be turned off. Towed to dealer in next state and dealer said cannot replicate so cannot fix.
Car is 2012 Santa Fe w/ less than 6,000 miles on it.
Camry :: 2006 LE - Power Steering Fluid Loss?
My wife was driving yesterday from work and suddenly felt the steering becoming hard to steer so she was able to drive home but barely made it to our driveway (very hard to steer). I saw fluid dripping down the right side of the car. I opened the hood and saw lots of brown fluid spilled all over. Power steering fluid reservoir was empty. So my question is, is this primarily caused by power steering pump failure causing spillage of fluid contaminating the drive belt causing it to slip (car overheated a little bit) or Serpentine belt failure (120,000 miles with original belt) causing power steering pump to fail and eventually leak fluid.

Dodge - Caravan - Electrical-wiring :: Occasional Power Loss While Driving
'98 Dodge Caravan occasionally loses power and dies while driving. No power steering or brakes. Have changed alternator, battery, starter, computer, and starter switch. What else could it be?
View 6 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Idling And Power Loss - RPMs Will Drop Below 500 And Then Spike Back Up
So over the last few months I have been having more and more idling and power loss issues with my 2006 V6. When idling she intermittently will try to stall and the rpms will drop below 500 and then spike back up. A large percentage of the time I hear a loud whining sound while driving down the road and I notice that turning off the air conditioner will remove the sound at times.
***what I have done so far**
Idler Pulley
Belt tensioner
sepentine belt
cleaned MAF
Cleaned Throttle body
Throttle Position Sensor
Had car reprogrammed
So I pulled the belt off and checked all the pulleys and did notice some grittiness in the AC pulley (inner) and was wondering if this might be the issue. Attached is a video I uploaded, Video .....
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: Coolant Loss / Occasional Whiff Of Antifreeze Not In Oil
2002 7.3, losing coolant. Occasional whiff of antifreeze, not in oil. I use my truck to tow a food trailer that's only about 4500lbs, some highway, most city driving. 173K clicks, bout Jan 2016 with 130K, first time this has happened...
View 9 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: 2007 3.3L V6 - Whining Noise In Steering
Have a 2007 3.3/V6. Had whining noise in steering. Replaced reservoir and fluid. Still has noise and steering is worse. Probably will replace pump next as it has 220k miles. Alldata shows the pump being located on top of motor near reservoir which is incorrect. Appears to be on bottom of engine close to firewall. Is this correct? Do you have to remove plastic wheel well to get to it?
View 5 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Occasional Hiss / Very High Pitched Squeal
While driving, I occasionally hear a hiss, which seems to be a/c related. but just recently, I've heard an extremely high-pitched squeal/whistle. So high-pitched I had to slow down, turn off the music, and tell my wife to stop talking :P to hear it. Brakes are not being pressed. Definitely not a brake problem. How do I know? I parked the car, with engine running, opened the hood, and looked for the sound. nothing. I turned off the car and was walking inside when i heard it whistling behind me, mockingly. it stopped shortly after.
I'm thinking it might be a/c related, or some kind of pressure hose. (a/c is working fine otherwise, as far as i know). It's not air leaking from the tire. I've heard it on and off for about a week and the tire pressure is fine.
I'm more mechanical with computers than cars, but i have a basic understanding. it seems to be coming from the driver side, under the dash/under the hood.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Power Steering Seems To Be Getting Louder
I have had my 06 Sonata for about 3 years now. It has about 52,000 miles on it and it seems like over the past couple months the power steering has gotten louder. I checked the fluid and it is fine. My brother had a ford taurus that always had loud power steering but never presented any problems. Mine has never presented any problems either, it just seems like it has gotten louder. my question is, should I be concerned that it may lead to trouble in the future?
View 2 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Losing Power Steering Fluid
Filled up my power steering every 3 days this week. Finally climbed under the car and saw this. How difficult or expensive this will be to fix? Is it just replacing the rubber boot or is it more severe?
View 12 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Power Steering Hose Leak?
I've got a 2006 Sonata LX, that has been leaking PS fluid for a while, but has gotten quite a bit worse lately. I finally put it up on ramps, and crawled underneath, and from what I can see, I think it's leaking from the pressure hose someplace.
The hose is covered with some type of a silver wrap. I wiped everything down as much as I could with a rag, waited for an hour, then crawled back underneath. There was some new fluid on the hose wrapping right above where it goes into the steering gear box (the driver-side leg of the hose).
Does this sound like it could be the hose? Would it be ok to remove the protective wrap to make sure? it's only wire-tied on to secure it, so I don't see why not.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: 06 Power Steering Pump Whining
I recently replaced the harmonic balancer on my 06 sonata v6.... the rubber was separating from the pulley. About 2 days later, i notice the power steering pump whining, so i checked the fluid and it was at the correct level. I have 98k miles, is it safe to assume i just need to change the power steering pump, is it possible anything else could be causing this problem? I doubt it is related to the crank pulley change, probably more a coincidence but wanted some opinions. Also, if it is the power steering pump.
View 29 RepliesSonata NF (2006-10) :: Power Steering / Alternator Go Out When Going Through Puddles
I've got a 2010 base with the 4 cylinder. When you make a turn (mostly right, but sometimes left) through puddles the power steering and alternator temporarily go out. I believe it is a belt/power failure as a result of the water being splashed into the area - none-the-less, it's a potentially very dangerous situation.
I did a quick check and it looks like all the plastic is there and in good shape. I do realize there is an engine splash guard on this model and it is in place.
A footnote - the car did take a light hit in the front before I bought it. It was "patched" together and sold. They didn't do a terrible job (as it looks ok), but you can tell "things" aren't perfect.
Since the splash guard is in place - What should I be looking for?
