Ford - Mountaineer :: 2004 - Loud Banging Noise Coming From The Engine Compartment
I have an 04 mountaineer and when i shut it of i get a loud banging noise from it. Its sounds like its coming from the engine compartment. The truck itself runs great and I didn't see any exhaust leaks. It has 70,000 on it.

I drive a 1997 Saturn SL1, 295,000 miles. Great car. Good gas mileage, very, very low maintenance. I cleaned the engine about three years ago with an engine cleaner (Gunk?). When I turned on the engine it started to make a loud noise. The best way to describe it is a loud whining noise. It appears to be coming from the AC. When I turn on the AC the noise gets quieter (but it's still annoying). The noise does not appear to have affected the car's performance, but it is loud and annoying. What the problem is?

I have a 2010 LS 460 Sport and recently noticed that there is a faint water sound coming from behind the glove box every time I accelerate from standstill and sometimes when the car is idle and the A/C is on. My initial thinking was that it is some sort of a clog in the A/C drain, and that's what I told my service supervisor at the most recent service at a Lexus dealership. They said that they could not find anything except for a bit of debris in the A/C drain, which they blew out, however the noise is still there. The best way that I can describe the noise is that it's similar to a noise that a rainstick makes.

I have a 06 touareg v8 air sus, loaded. Today was the first time towing my bass boat with this truck, and on the way to the lake, I keep hearing a weird noise, sound coming from the rear of the vehicle, something like a rubbing banging type noise. At first I thought maybe the factory hitch wasn't bolted on very well, but this is not the case(as I could tell not much to see under there) I tried jumping on the trailer to emulate the sound but this didn't work. Its not the trailer brake, which is a self actuating system, that checked out ok.

Did I get bent over? had a banging noise coming from the rear and took it to my regular shop, they told me the leaf spring shackle and hanger brackets were almost rusted thru and one more pothole and I'd be all over the road, so they ground out the rivets and replaced said brackets. I don't have the equipment to do that kind of work but I still feel it was a little high.

So I was driving home from work in my 2000 Jetta 2.0, which has 115k miles on it. Its a 5 speed and I love the car, even though its kind of a beater. Anyway, coming off the highway and reducing speed, I hear a loud banging coming from the engine bay. It sounds like a car would if a spark plug were blown out of the block.
There is definitely a loss of power and the motor is running rough. The check engine light is flashing at me constantly. I pull off the highway and pop the hood. No fluid loss, no obvious smoke coming from anywhere. I start feeling around the engine bay and I feel high pressure air (exhaust?) being expelled from under the valve cover.
So what could have broken? Cracked head? blown headgasket? some other thing I haven't thought of? Its obvious that exhaust gas is leaking from a cylinder into the valve cover.
Camry :: Light Banging / Tapping Noise Coming From Intake Manifold Area
I have a 2003 Camry 4 cyl. around 60,000 miles on odometer and for around 3 months the engine seems to have gotten louder while at idle. At the back of the engine around the plastic intake manifold area the engine is making a light banging / tapping noise. It never made this noise before. The engine idles fine and the drives normally. I always keep an eye on the fluid levels and they are up to par. I'm not sure what is going on and if I should just keep an eye on it. I have provided a link below to a video of the noise. My 1998 Explorer is making a terrible banging noise when driving. It appears to come from the rear. It only occurs when i step on the gas, gives a bang and the car shudders lightly. The bang can be gone for 10 - 30 seconds, and all of a sudden appear again. If I step hard on the gas, it will make a bang! bang! bang! noise.. If let my foot off the gas, it rolls quitely without any noise.
I have greased the slip yoke, inspected the U-joints, checked the rear calipers, opened the rear axle/differential plate - no metal parts or excessive wear were observed.. The transmission runs smoothly, there are no other noises apart from the bang. It is as if someone is hitting the car with a hammer from underneath...

I've a 2007 Toyota Camry (LE 2.4 L 4-cylinder). Couple of days ago I tried to start the car and I heard this banging/grunting sound as I started the car. And, after the car started the engine is running much louder. Oddly enough when I got out of the car and opened the hood the noise didn't seem that loud. In other words, it sounds louder from inside the car than standing outside with the hood open.
Before all this, the engine ran very smoothly and very quite. Here is a link for two audio files that captures the sounds. Note that I recorded these two clips from inside the car.

Passat (B6) :: Clicking Noise Coming From Under Glove Compartment
I hear clicking noise on my 2006 vw passat 2.0 T. The noise comes from the passenger side, sounds like it coming from under the glove department, but i cannot be exactly sure. It does clicking when i start the engine and after a minute it clicks .. ( about 5-6 clicks. not very loud but you can hear them. )
Also the clicking noise appears when I drive ... but it's hard to hear, and when i slow down or when i"m at the complete stop. It does not appears all the time, but randomly happens.
Phaeton :: Loud Grinding Noise Coming From The Glove Box?
Whenever I start my car, there is about 20 seconds of loud grinding coming from the glove box. It's sort of a tak-tak-tak-grrr-tak-tak-tak-grrr over and over. I've opened the glove box and noticed that with each start, the Navi box spits out the DVD, makes an awful grinding noise, then self-reinserts the navi DVD. I'm guessing this isn't normal, as it jars the normally whisper-smooth operation of my Phaeton. Is there an easy fix, or is this something to take the car into the dealer for? It would my first time taking it in for anything.

Our 1993 Saturn SL1 wouldn't start this morning (this never happens). After we turned the car off, it made this "dugga, dugga, dugga" noise that seems to come from below the emergency brake. Even though the car has been off, the noise has been happening intermittently since this morning. We just replaced the battery a month ago.
