Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: Fuel Smell In Cabin If Fill The Tank To Full

I have a 2007 Santa Fe. If I fill the tank to full, or close to full I will have a fuel smell in the car until the tank runs under 3/4. If I keep it under 3/4 I usally do not get the smell in the car.

The dealer could not figure it out and I still have this issue. It seems the smell is more in the front of the cabin then the rear. It just could seem that way since the smell is very strong. I have to park the car with the windows open.

There are no fuel leaks, no fuel on the ground, no drips, and the no spillage when I filled the tank.

Passat (B5) :: CEL On For Code PO456 / Strong Fuel Smell On Fill Up

Ok, 04 Passat, 1.8T AWM

CEL is on for po456 (very small evap leak) and every time I fill up on fuel, I can smell a STRONG fuel odor, from near the fuel neck, and inside the car. Stops after it hits around 3/4 area. No leaks, and the car runs fine. Gas cap, and N80 valve were just replaced, both parts are from the dealer. I'm going to bring it in for a smoke test soon. All recall notices have been done too, I just did the timing belt.

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: Strong Gas Smell After Fill Up - Codes PO455 And P2251

I have no problems pumping gas in, but the entire car cabin smells very strongly of gas after filling up. It seems to come from the area of the charcoal canister. No dripping of gas, no puddles... Did a smoke test, no leaks showed up anywhere (according to the mechanic). I do not want to start throwing parts at this to fix it - where should I start, and in what order should I throw parts? 2003 elantra GT sedan, 70k ....

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Burning Smell When AC Is Turned On

Resurrecting this 2001 2.7l, I noticed the horrible gas mileage.

I'm thinking o2 sensor, but it doesn't throw a code... Anywhere else I should look? I've changed Crank Position Sensor, Fuel Pressure Regulator, plugs, and brakes.

One note, when the a/c is turned on, I can smell a burning kinda smell. Maybe the clutch on the compressor is going out, causing some parasitic type of power loss? idk. Car seems pretty peppy now that it has a new CPS.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Smell Of Raw Fuel When Filling Up

The last 2 times I have filled up at the pump and started driving from the station there is the strong smell of raw fuel in the cabin while driving and on the highway as well even with the windows down. It slowly dissipates after driving 5 miles or so and does not occur again until the next time I fill up. What it can be?

Ford - Mustang :: 2005 - Got Error Code P0456 Code / Gas Won't Fill?

My 2005 Mustang w/ 4.6L is giving a P0456 code and also won't let me fill it with gas completely. I think I've narrowed it down to the canister vent or purge valve. Looking for narrowing down which would cause the gas fill issue.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Burning Electrical Smell And Smoke - Alternator?

2002 Santa Fe V6

Ran the AC yesterday for the first time after a long cold winter. Seemed fine for about 15 miles but then I came to a stop and all of the sudden smelled burning plastic/electrical... white smoke started blowing out of the vents. Pulled over, popped the hood. The smoke appeared to be coming from the passenger/rear side of the engine.

Drove it another 15 miles home (had to) but with no AC or even fan on... made it and noticed the smell and smoke but only very little.

This morning I started it up .. got under the hood and clearly can smell it coming from the same area. That is the alternator at the back of the engine passenger side right? Voltages read fine... seems to be charging ok as well.

The only indicator that it is going bad is of course the smell and smoke... I can feel it is getting very hot.. too hot to touch after only a few minutes running. Spun bearings in it maybe? Just thought I'd put that out there before I start tearing it apart.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2004 - No Spark / Strong Smell After Cranking

I bought a 2004 Santa fe with the 2.4 engine not running. It will not get spark, it is getting fuel I can smell it strong after cranking...It has a new crank position sensor, I took the timing cover off to verify. Whoever put the sensor on cut the wires and soldered/ heat shrink them back together obviously because they didn't want to remove the timing belt. It Also it has a new ignition failure sensor, all fuses are good, there was a spare computer in the vehicle which I tried still no luck. I took loom off and looked at the harness and can't find anything.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Strong Smell Of Fuel From Under Car But No Visible Leak

I have an Oct 2001 2.7 GLS which apart from the odd ABS Tone Wheel and speed sensor issues has been uber reliable and a real pleasure to own (I've had it from new).

We had a problem about a year ago when the wife didn't get the fuel cut-off when filling up and over filled the car resulting in fuel pouring out of the tank vent and down the fuel tank under the car but after a long drive that cleared up and has not happened again. Interestingly we didn't get any engine CEL's or have any codes turn up at all when checked by my mechanic.

Over the past couple of weeks we have noticed a very strong smell of fuel under the car around the fuel tank. I can't see any indication that there is a fuel leak but have noticed when filling up that the smell is very strong and as the car runs the fuel down the smell reduces to almost nothing.

Today I removed the rear seats and the fuel pump access panels to see if there was any seeping around the pump gaskets but couldn't see anything and the top of the tank around the both pumps was a dry as a bone. Using a torch I did however notice that there was a darkening of the fuel tank surface in the centre which I guess is close to the vent valve, part 311990b:

Or maybe is where the fuel vent pipe runs to?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Antifreeze Smell From Under Hood - Radiator Replacement?

2002 Santa Fe with 140K. Superbly well maintained.

I notice . Looked all around....then on the radiator toward the top where the metal meets the plastic. I noticed wetness across the entire radiator. Thought it may be coming from the upper hose and spreading across....Replaced the upper hose....Not the problem.

Still has anti freeze seeping across the radiator / plastic area. Does the mean the entire radiator needs replacing? I have searched the forums and seems like no one had replaced a radiator on the Santa.

Is the radiator breaking down. Oh, it's NOT the water pump.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Metallic Burning Smell Was Coming From The Engine

I was driving around running errands when my AC stopped blowing cool air, a funny kind of "metallic" burning smell was coming from the engine, and there was a slight knocking noise that was apparently coming from the engine and would go faster as I accelerated.

My car is still under warranty so I know stuff will be covered. My question is : what the heck is going on with my Santa Fe? I need to know whether I should call into work or drive it anyways.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Slow Start And Burning Rubber Smell

Vehicle:
01 Santa Fe LX 2.7 AWD w/112k miles

Symptoms:
- Slow Start (when cranking takes 2 full seconds before it will turn over and you can hear the engine cranking slower, use to turn over right away)
- Very Strong Burning Rubber Smell

History:
Last January it got down to -20 here in Albuquerque and I would have to go to work at that time. About a week later (when it was still getting down to about 0) I was driving home from work when I smelled a slight smell of burning rubber. I thought it was the car in front of me. The next day I had the same thing. It continued for about a month till the temps rose a bit and then went away. I could never find the cause. I then went all spring, summer, and fall without any problems on my Santa Fe.

As the temps begun to drop over the past 6 weeks we started to smell the burning rubber again, at first only when I would start the car till it warmed up. About 2 weeks ago the car started cranking slower and would take longer to turn over and within the past week I can smell the burning rubber smell even when I had the engine at temp. There's not any idiot lights on. The car is running fine except for what was mentioned, gets up to temp and stays there (a little below the middle on the gauge like normal). I pop the hood and looked at the belt, looked good (no cracks). Checked all the fluids and the only thing that's low is the coolant.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Transfer Case Leak And Burning Oil Smell

Well, I have the dreaded transfer case leak on my 112000 mile 03 2.7 santa fe. I have just returned from a 12,000 mile trip through Canada, Alaska and then back to Colorado. During that trip I was smelling a burning oil smell and after I came back I traced it to the transfer case. I think it is leaking both from where it mates to the drive train and a one inch seam along the transfer case plate.

It has leaked there for some time(and I had been diligent about filling it up), but this extended trip it has has been more bothersome. I called the local Hyundai shop and they want $1100 and won't guarantee a fix. Is there some product I could use on that one inch seam externally to stop the leak (I know that wouldn't seal the circular seam around the drive shaft)? I kept very accurate gas records and averaged 25.6 MPG for the whole 12k trip running from 55 to 65 MPH.

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: Electrical Burn Smell - Smoke From Top Of Rear Engine

I have a 2002 SantaFe, V6 DOHC 4 dr, 117000 miles, that I bought in 2002 with 12000 miles on it. A couple days ago, I smelled an electrical burn smell coming in my interior air vents (no smoke).

From the top rear of the engine, closest to the firewall, was about a 6 inch wide plum of white/gray smoke, just enough to see through. I looked under the car and there wasn't smoke coming out underneath ( no wind that day). No Warning lights, engine light, etc.

I have always taken car of my SantaFe, Bud, regular oils changes, trans oil, air pressure, etc.

Since about 2007, during a couple of oil changes I have been told that there was an oil leak on the top of the engine, probably a gasket. I figured since there were not spots on my drive and it never needed topping off before the next oil chng, I would keep my money for the other bills.

What can cause smoking like this considering where it looks like its coming from? Could it be from more oil pooling over time? Can engine oil smell like "electrical" burning smell?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2.4L Engine Running Rough / Rich Smell All The Time

When firing up the engine cold it runs really rough, smells very rich all the time, even warmed up. No codes set, fuel trims are within 5-10%. I've replaced the front O2 sensor, swapped crank & cam sensors, Map sensor (have lots of spare parts) & I'm sure there was more things I've changed but can't remember. I have a snap on scanner and everything is within parameters.

I have not checked the EGR valve or solenoids yet. It's a 2006 Santa Fe 2.4l 5 speed, new timing belt & balance belt replaced when I dropped this engine in. Is there a common problem with these that I could begin looking for?

Santa FE SM (2001-06) :: 2004 - Slight Smell Of Antifreeze / Radiator Fluid Every Once In A While

I have a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe with a 3.5L engine and 92,000 miles.

For the past week or so, I have noticed a very slight smell of antifreeze/radiator fluid every once in a while. I assumed that it is a radiator hose leak or possibly a leak in the heater core. But, the vehicle does not overheat, there is no steam or fog inside that would indicate a possible heater core leak, and the radiator fluid level seemed full or almost full (although the radiator overflow container was empty). I added a little water to the radiator and filled the overflow container to make sure there was plenty of radiator fluid in the system.

I haven't seen any radiator fluid on the ground around the vehicle at anytime. When I open the hood, I don't see any leaking hoses. I took off the engine cover to see better, and I don't see any leak around the water pump, or dripping from the pump, or dripping from any hoses, etc. But, BELOW the water pump is something made of cast metal that I am guessing is the automatic transmission(?) -- I really don't know what it is. And, sitting in some valleys or crevices in that part are small pools of green fluid that clearly looks and smells like radiator fluid with antifreeze.

I ran the vehicle for a long time while watching to see if I could create or see the leak or anything dripping etc. But I don't see anything other than
those pools of green liquid just sitting there. I tried moving or wiggling the hoses, and nothing changed. I also tried keeping it running with the heat on high, then later with the AC on high -- still no change. Then I tried using paper towels and sopping up what I could that was in these valleys/crevices, then I drove it again (but only for about 4 miles so far) and I don't see any new fluid in the crevices or anywhere else.

Here are 5 photos that I took with the engine cover off while the green fluid was still there. The photos go from a wider angle overall view down to a view of the green puddles from a slight angle and then down to a top view of the green puddles.

[URL] ....

Where you may see dark areas on the water hoses near the water pump, they are just shadows created by the flash or the sun or whatever. The hoses themselves are all one color and are not wet etc.

My questions:

Am I correct that where the small green puddles are is the automatic transmission?

Is it possible that there is some connection between that (the automatic transmission(?)) and the radiator cooling system?

Is it possible that the cooling system somehow also cools the automatic transmission (or whatever that is)?

If so, could the leak be right there -- maybe where that bolt or the other wire/connection piece is -- and the radiator fluid is coming UP from there? What this may be or where the leak is coming from?
