Ford :: Rubbing / Humming Sound Near Front Of Car While Driving
While I drive I am experiencing a rubbing or humming sound near the front of the car. The sound is there at all times when the car is moving but seems to lessen when turning in either direction. The faster the car goes the faster the hum. Pressing the brake or accelerator only slows or quickens the humming but doesn't change the intensity. The car is a '96 Ford Taurus that I have owned for less than a year. The issue has only been occurring for two or three months.
View 3 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Frequent Rubbing Sound Coming From Front Passenger Tire When Driving At Low Speeds
When I'm driving low speeds...say under 40. there is a random but frequent rubbing sound coming from the front passenger tire. Previous my driver side coil over blew out and it was replaced by VW and they raised the car. After about a week i noticed the sound. The car also shakes between 55 and 65...so i'm assuming it's a balancing issue. But can't figure out what the rubbing is....ball bearing maybe?

I own a Passat 2003 1.8t. When I drive at low speed 20/30 kmh , There's a rubbing sound that comes out of the forward part of the vehicle. The sound gets a bit louder and turns into a vibration at high speed 80/100 kmh.
When i drive at low speed and turn left the sounds/vibration get louder.
Cavalier :: Repetitive Rubbing Sound At Front Wheel
I have this repetitive rubbing sound coming from the driver's side front wheel. It increases as I go faster and slower as the car goes slower. When I apply the brakes the sound disappears. It usually isn't audible when first driving but will show up after a few minutes. If I'm turning slightly to the left it will go away, or if I make a right turn I will occasionally get a rattling noise that's distinctly different.
I had this looked at a while ago, before the rattling noise appeared, and they determined it was a motor mount and replaced that. The noise did not go away.
I've taken a look at it and do not see anything obvious. Brake pads are still good, rotor is smooth and not visibly warped (though it has more rust on it than I'd like). I tried moving the tire to see if the bearings were shot but didn't have any luck (I'm not ruling it out yet).
Golf IV R32 :: Strange Vibration And Rubbing Sound When Driving At Slow Speeds?
Just had a hub get stripped a few weeks back and had to replace the whole hub assembly. Now just a few weeks later, I started developing this strange rubbing, almost scraping sound when backing of the garage in reverse and the diving speeds of like 5-10 mph. It has to be wheel related becuase the sound goes in and out as the wheel goes around.
Put the car up on jack stands , checked fender plastic underneath the wheel wells, dchecked the dust sheild on the rotors, checked the tires out, even spun the rotor around with my hand and I couldn't replicate the sound?
Just Started about 5 days ago and was only noticeable at slow speeds every other day, then today it seemed worse and I can almost hear it when driving 25-35 mph and I'm also starting to feel it in the steering and body of the car as a vibration.
I just want to get this car back running smooth... Just put new suspension on as well, new strut bearings, but I had to reuse the strut mounts because the dealership was out of mounts. Don't think the suspension has anything to do with it, but you never know. How to upload a video... I can see if I can somehow record the sound.
Touareg :: Rushing / Rubbing Sound From Front Left Wheel On Turns
Before I take my 3 month old T2 in for service AGAIN this Saturday. The more informed I am when I walk up to the service counter, the better.
When I make a hard left turn (more than 90 degrees), I now hear a sound from the front left wheel area. It sounds sort of like the sound a plane makes when flying overhead. It's sort of like something is rubbing.
This started all of a sudden last Thursday. I thought it would go away. It doesn't sound normal and it doesn't happen when I turn right. It doesn't affect my steering. I don't recall hitting anything (note I sait recall).
Obviously, I got out of the truck and examined the entire area but I don't see anything unusual. I drove around in circles with my head out the window trying to figure this out.
Prius (2004-09) :: Front Discs Rubbing Sound Like Pads Worn Down?
This started recently and suddenly during our recent snow. It sounds like the pads have worn down. Only happens at very low speed, not immediately at the point where the disc brakes cut in (>7mph?). Apart from the sound, the braking action feels normal and it stops fine.
The pads were only replaced a few months ago. Done 106,000 miles now, and no more than 2,000 since pads replaced.
I had thought it might be some grit caught between disc and pads but it would have cleared by now and there are now obvious signs on the disc of anything.
What would I be best to remove the wheels and take a closer look. Also, is there a wear sensor on the pads?
Santa Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Rubbing / Faint Grinding Sound Emanating From Right Front Corner
A few days ago I purchased a brand-new 2015 Santa Fe Sport 2.0T LTD, with about 80 miles on the odometer. During the test-drive, I noticed a rubbing/faint grinding sound which emanated from the right front corner, and only lasted a second or two. I was driving straight ahead at about 30mph on a relatively smooth paved road at the time.
The dealer told me they were aware of the noise, and claimed a small stone was to blame. (it had been test driven a number of times). I was assured that the problem would be fixed when I picked up the car.
On the drive home from the purchase, it did it again, and has done it every day that I've driven it. (about 150 miles on it now). Are these wheels susceptible to having stones lodged in them?? (assuming that's actually what's causing the noise).
Ford Excursion :: 2000 - Left Front Wheel Is Making A Rubbing Sound?
I have a 2000 Excursion 2wd. The left front wheel or something up front is making a rubbing sound when I turn to the right. Checked the brakes, they looked fine. Pulled front rotor off and replaced the wheel bearing just incase. Still making that same noise? I can't see any sign of something rubbing either on the frame, brakes lines, or control bars?
View 3 RepliesFord F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Rubbing Sound At Front End Only Audible When Brakes Applied
I have a 2001 f150 4x4 5.4 Liter 72000 miles. There is a rubbing sound that is only audible when the brakes are applied. And only when applied with light pressure. The noise will continue intermittently until you come to a complete stop. If the brake is applied aggressively there is no sound at all. I am not sure if it is a brake issue or some thing in the front end that is flexing when slowing down.
View 3 RepliesElantra MD (2010-15) :: Loud Rubbing / Grinding Sound From Front Wheel Area While Turning
Early this week my car started making a loud knocking/rubbing sound (Kind of in between when your brakes are ground down to the rotor and a knocking pattern).
FIRST, it started only when I turned slightly left or left.... NOW, it's doing it as I go straight and when I turn to the right as well... oddly enough it's not as bad when going left anymore...
What this could be?? And if it's an easy DIY fix..... (maybe a link on how) and how much the part(s) might be?? I've taken video (for sound as I drive)...but not sure if I can upload it (size limit).
Impala - Chevrolet :: Wheels Rubbing / Thumping Sound From Front - Couldn't Change Rotors?
My 79 year old father put fuel additive in his 2010 Chevy Impala. Don't ask me how much, or for how long... The Check Engine light came on. I never got a clear answer from him on what his mechanic said about it. Five to Ten fill ups later the Check Engine light went out on its own. Engine seems fine. Could this have caused damage to the engine or emissions controls? Would a computer diagnostic from a mechanic pinpoint any problems? Would you recommend a computer diagnostic be performed?

Since my first service, I have had a clicking type noise in my front end of the car when I am driving slowly (parking, pulling into my driveway). The dealer first said that it could be the brakes setting up after the car sat for a while. They "could not duplicate" the sound when the car was dropped off, but I still hear when I drive.

Howling sound when reaching above 100km? The sound comes spot on 100km, below it sounds normal. Would it be bearings or just wind noise sneaking in to the cabin? I bought the car used so is this normal.
View 18 RepliesTouareg :: Front End Howling?
The front end is screaming like the wheels are going to fall off.
Its speed dependent, and sometimes (but not always) you get get it to quiet a bit by hitting the brakes.
- It has about 56k mi on it, and the original brakes (but new tires a few thou ago).
- I pulled the RF wheel off, and there is 4.41mm pad left
- The MFI is not warning, and there is no visible scoring of the disc
- No visible damage or rubbing anywhere.
I know in the old days (my last 20 cars) they had a simple steel clip that hit the rotor at the minimum wear point. If these don't have that (And I'm confident they don't) whats causing all the racket? I sure hope a pad change fixes it.
Ford - Explorer :: 2008 - Howling Noise When Driving Between 50 - 60 Mph
My Dad has an 08 with the V8. When driving between 50-60 mph there is a "howling" sound. It is not noticeable at speeds lower than 50 or greater than 60. The sound reminds me of what you hear with all terrain tires when they are worn or a mud tire but not quite as loud. He has replace the tires with regular street treads and the noise is still there. He has checked for worn bearings or loose heat shields and everything is as it should be. What could this be coming from? What about the center drive shaft bearing mentions in this link?

Santa Fe (CM - 2007-12) :: 2011 - Humming / Howling Sound At 55+ MPH
6K mile 2011 Santa Fe Limited front wheel drive V6 and I am getting a humming/howling sound at 55+ MPH and it is very annoying, not too loud but there. It is really bad at 75+...
The tires were road forced balanced and a alignment was done by the dealer. The Rear was way out of align but they supposedly fixed it.
I do not get any kind of vibration in the body or steering wheel but the humming/howling sound is terrible. Almost like when you crack one of the rear windows and you get that pressure sound...
