Prius (2010-12) Fuel :: Optimal Time To Use Cruise Control At Highway Speeds
What are the most and least optimal times to use cruise control at highway speeds?

On my class C motor home, 1999 with V10 engine when I turn the ignition key to the start position I get absolute silence, when I release the key and turn it to the start position again it always starts. I have fitted a new starter motor, new solenoid and new battery but still the problem persists. I'm scared that one time it will not crank over on the second attempt.

View 14 RepliesLexus GX 2004-09 :: Truck Not Downshifting Properly For Optimal Performance
I've been using my GX to haul the family about 500 miles round trip between our primary home and our lake house. I've done the trip about 5 times now, the route has many elevation changes (hills) and it keeps becoming more apparent that the GX is not downshifting when I would like it.
1) At first, I was stomping down on the gas pedal, entering the uphill stretches, to force a downshift, most of the time it needs to seek all the way to third before it gains enough torque to maintain fast highway speeds (70-80). However, this stomp method results in gunning the engine and then letting off the pedal, not exactly the smoothest process and hard to stay in the power band around 3rd and 4th gears.
2) I finally figured out how to push the shifter to the left and manually shift between the gears myself. However, I have found the downshift from 5 to 4 rarely happens in a timely manner. I shift it over to 4, the light goes out on D but takes a long time to light up on 4, and it stays in 5th gear. I have to downshift all the way to third to get a response out of it, which is immediate.
3) Once I started manually downshifting to 3rd it made a GIANT different in performance of the vehicle over hills. 3rd and 4th gear have plenty of power to move the vehicle along without stomping on the gas pedal and provides a much smoother ride.
Noticed the poor performance of the transmission shift program. I know the 05+ have slightly more power , but this doesn't strike me as a power issue, just that the truck isn't downshifting for optimal performance.
Golf - Volkswagen :: 1997 - Beeping Start When Car Gets To Its Optimal Temperature
So I was given this car as a gift around march of last year and it had 150k+ miles on it. The week I got it there was an oil leak, that was caused by a damaged oil filter. So when it happened the car was beeping. I took it to a mechanic, and he "fixed" it. However, ever since then when the car gets to it's optimal temperature it starts beeping. Whenever I accelerate and rev the engine it stops beeping (ex: when I'm on the freeway no beeping; in the city with tons of stops = lots of beeping). It is annoying and it's gotten to the point where I am embarrassed to give people rides in my car.
View 6 RepliesFord F-150 (2009-2014) :: Truck Not Picking The Optimal Gear?
So on my way home from work, there is a dual lane, pretty long steady incline (fairly steep). The speed limit is 50, so I set my cruise to 50 going up. I noticed that the truck will not downshift but stay in 6th gear all the way up at around 1,200 rpm. It seemed a little low on the rpm's for how steep the hill is, so one day (about a week ago) I decided to use the "-" button of the select trans switch to make it go into 5th. RPM's go to ~ 2,000, and I immediately saw an increase in the green bar indicating the instant fuel mileage. I've repeated it every day since with the same result. So I get better mpg's manually shifting into 5th gear in that specific situation.
View 7 RepliesGen 3 Prius (Audio/Electronics) :: 2010 - Radio Speed Up / Down As Of Car Speed - Locks Up?
I have a 2010 Prius. In the last few months, the radio has started acting strangely.
Sometimes it will increase I speed when you speed up and slow down when you slow down. And play normally when at a stand still. Sometimes it locks up, you can not change the volume or station. Sometimes it does not work at all. Other times it works just fine.
When I called the dealership, they will only replace the radio and not investigate the issue. Replacement could cost 300-400.
Prius (Gen 3) :: Maximum Speed At Which ICE Is Off (at 0 RPM)?
As part of writing up [URL] ....., can a Gen 3 owner w/some means of monitoring ICE RPM (e.g. ScanGauge II, Torque app, tach, etc.) What's the max speed you can travel at and still have ICE RPM at 0? I'm not asking about the max speed for EV mode.

View 4 RepliesPrius (Gen 3) :: OBD-II Speed More Accurate Than Display
I have previously noted that the Prius display of speed is about 1 mph higher than actual as measured by GPS and those ubiquitous street radar signs. However, the OBD-2 display using the Garmin Mechanic exactly agrees with the GPS. I wonder how this relates to the well known display mpg being 3mpg or so higher than actual measured by tank fill-ups.
View 5 RepliesPrius C :: Accelerate Briskly To Speed?
I know with the regular Prius it was accelerate briskly to speed. but just what is "briskly" ? for some it could be at the rate of zero to 60 in 3 seconds, other it would be 20 seconds. So what would be the best rate of acceleration for the C to get best mileage? how about best acceleration to speed, say 50 mph, and still get good mpg without pissing off the rest of the road?

What's top speed for EV mode? I was able to keep it in EV when driving through town, after a hill, and keep it around 41-42 for a little while before my speed dropped and I had to use a little more throttle.
I don't understand why you can't lock in EV and deplete more of your battery at times, such as a few miles before getting on the freeway. Seems a bit wasteful, since the highway portion would give you plenty of time to build up charge again.
Prius V :: How To Turn Off Low Speed Sound Emitter
The 2012 Prius V has a sound emitter which, well, emits sound while the vehicle travels at speeds below 35 Mph. Is there a way, preferably non-invasive (i.e. without cable cutting) to turn this noise emitter off? If so, describe the process.
In case there is no way to turn said noise emitter off by non-invasive means, is there a way of turning the noise emitter off by disconnecting anything and if so, what is the process and the location of the parts which need to be disconnected?
Prius (Gen 3) :: When Car Speed Slows To About 38 To 37 Mph Engine Will Shut Down
For those of you that own both a TCH and a 2010 Prius I have a question for you. My commute is only 6-7 miles to work and currently I am getting approximate 45mpg displayed on the mfd. I think I read somewhere that the display calculations may be a little high but all in all I am very happy with my mpg. I am considering trading my 09 TCH for a 2011 or possibly 2010 Prius if the price is right. Anyway If I accelerate my 09 TCH to approximately 41 mph and take my foot off the accelerator, when the car speed slows to about 38 to 37 mph the engine will shut down. I can now lightly push the accelerator to drive along just using the battery. If on a flat road or a slight down hill grade I can even pick up speed and get to about 41 mph before the engine starts back up. My question is how does the Prius work the same way? What are the speeds for the Prius?
View 16 RepliesPrius (Gen 1) :: Steering Shaking Only At Low Speed When Cold
I purchased a second hand 2000 Prius for my wife about a year ago and the car has been awesome. A few months ago she started experiencing a steering vibration only at low speed when cold and steering wheel turned sharply.
It got worse till you could feel a slight vibration when even going straight, I tried to scan the OBDII for faults but my scanner would not even work on the Prius.
I search online and bought a U380 OBDII scanner but since it would take a while to get to me I decided to disconnect the 12v to reset the computer (and fix my map lights while disconnected) when I reconnected the 12v the car started ran for about 10 seconds then cut out with the red triangle showing. I thought maybe I had done something wrong and the immobilizer had cut the engine, went inside to check my manual I had bought(cd version) on my computer and google search but found nothing.
Went out and disconnected the battery again and reconnected with same results. After some more searching went to car and it started right up no triangle. Here is the strange part, for the next several days the steering was great no shake at all and even the slight vibration was gone. Over the next few weeks it has slowly been coming back again but still not near as bad as it was, I finally got my scanner and scanned it but it shows no codes. I have not seen anywhere if successfully repaired this type of problem without replacing the whole steering rack but maybe I am missing something, anyway I have a couple of questions in my quest not to replace the rack.
1) Is it possible that it has the zero adjust error and my scanner is not reading it?
2) My repair manual(although it does not seem very good) shows resistors with some kind of contacts in with the torque sensors, is it possible these contacts just need cleaning?
