Prius C :: 2013 - Loud AC Compressor Noise
I purchased a used 2013 Prius C last fall (currently its ticking 33000 miles). That time the weather was cold and did not need the A/C that much. As the summer progresses, I am hearing a loud noise coming out from the engine bay as I turn on the A/C. Here is an YouTube link for the noise.....

Every time my air compressor would shut off I got a loud annoying pop through the radio. Even if the radio was off I would still get the pop. I knew it couldn't be good for all the electronics in the truck so I tried a mod.
Diodes across the relay signal terminals need to be installed in performance carts to protect the electronics. I put one of these diodes on my truck this week. 100% of the pop is gone.
I used this one : ACC-KIT-CSD-1
Ford 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: AC Compressor Making A Loud Growling Noise
AC compressor makes a loud growling noise and lugs the engine briefly when engaged at idle and the truck has been sitting for weeks. After that initial grind, it works perfectly and makes no harsh noises. Can I replace the compressor bearing or should I swap out the entire compressor?

I have a 2003 ford ranger xlt 4.0L and here recently my ac compressor has been making a loud click noise engaging even though i am not using heat or AC, so when it engages the rpms drop and almost wants to stall and it does this in about 10-15 sec. intervals, but when I am driving it acts fine. What is going on here, I recently had a vacuum leak and i found it and fixed it, and now this issue just started.

So I changed my plugs and wires on my truck a few days ago and now every time I turn my key on a loud electrical noise comes from the engine. I thought it was the front right plug so I changed it. That went great for one day, then the same problem reoccurred. Done this many times never encountered such a problem. It will run obviously weaker than previously. 2000 Chevy Silverado5.3l vortec 4x4136,000 miles....

Tried to start my truck after sitting for 2 days in sub zero weather. wouldn't crank. pulled the batteries and charged them over night. Tried to start it the next day-wouldn't crank but the starter relay clicked. Was going to pull the starter and check it but decided to replace the relay first. replaced it and tried to start but now have no power to the cab-nothing comes on. I've checked the batteries with a load tester and they are ok. I've checked the fuses and they seem to be ok. when I tried to start it and the relay clicked there was a loud buzzing noise that seemed to be coming from under the dash. it has done this before but this time was louder than usual. I live out in the sticks so taking it somewhere is a last resort. It is a 1999 7.3 with 290000 miles.
View 14 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2006 Engine Noise - Loud Fan Like Buzzing / Especially Loud On Highway
For the past few months I've been hearing a loud fan-like buzzing noise coming from the passenger side of the front of the car. I don't know that much about cars, but it almost sounds like the engine is racing or something is spinning too fast. It has gotten increasingly worse, and seems especially loud at high speeds on the highway.
It is not the heating/cooling fan - the noise is present when the heating/cooling system is turned off.
Prius (Gen 3) :: Why Does Warming Up Use So Much Gas
I'm relatively new to owning a Prius (just over a month now) and am loving it so far. I've also been lurking these forums for a while and love reading over the technical explanations of how the Prius works and all that stuff. There something that I've been curious about recently
As we all know, unless it's already been running/warmed up recently the ICE has to start up around 7 seconds after turning on the ignition (unless in EV mode). When it does, fuel consumption figures go through the roof (10-15L/100km - which equates to around 20mpg) which is obviously very high.
Now, I leave my Prius in the underground garage of my apartment complex which is basically about 20 degrees celsius (70 fahrenheit) year round, which is pretty warm. So I'm curious about a few things:
1) Why the engine has to warm up when it is stored in a warm environment anyway (a regular ICE car doesn't need to warm up - you can turn it on a drive off).
2) Why fuel consumption is so high when the engine presumably isn't actually doing anything other than idling (or is it??)
3) To improve fuel consumption, would it be better to start off in EV mode, and only switch to normal/ECO when I know I'm actually going to need the ICE such as when I enter the actual roadway (so the engine is never in use when it is not actually powering the car)? I know fuel consumption will still be higher than normal as with any car when it is first started, but wouldn't this at least save it turning on unnecessarily?
4) If it is better to do this, why does it need to 'warm up' at all?
Prius C :: Noise From Air Conditioner Compressor
Just put my car in for it's first year's service(20,000 km). I made an observation to the service tech that during warm weather, there is a noticeable rattling whirring sound.
During testing, they were able to compare my car with another and confirmed the noise to be from the air-con compressor.
Prius (2004-09) :: AC Compressor Noise When Braking
Quick back story, bought the car a year ago, seller told me it was in an accident and the radiator was replaced. He let me know that the discharge AC hose was missing and that the other hose was disconnected. I also noticed that the low pressure cap is missing. I recently ordered and installed the discharge hose with the intention of filling the system later.
I have always noticed a noise/vibration coming from the passenger side when braking at low speeds. I havent noticed at higher speeds but maybe there is more road noise. The best I can describe the noise is that is sounds like a compressor running. I have a hunch it's the AC compressor and might be related to the regenerative braking, but I am no expert.
Prius (2010-12) :: Air Conditioner Compressor Noise
I have a 2013 Prius with few miles. It seems like the air conditioner compressor makes a very loud humming noise. It's a little annoying inside, but outside it is really loud. I know it is running off an electric motor and I expect that to make some noise, but this seems excessive. Is this normal? Also, the compressor keeps running all the time. I thought they were supposed to cycle on and off. It seems like all air conditioning compressors do this to conserve energy, even a house air conditioning unit.

View 1 RepliesFord - Explorer :: Fan Revving Noise / Slippage And Red Hot Temp Warming?
About 8 months and 12k miles ago I had the trans in my 2007 Explorer V6/auto completely rebuilt – now has about 89k. In the last couple of days when pulling away it has intermittently (maybe once a day) sounded like a loud fan was revving, which was accompanied by what I believe is trans slippage. Yesterday it seem to get more regular, at idle it revved itself up to about 2k rpm without moving while I was sitting at a red light, felt like the trans was slipping and then the communication section of the dashboard flashed red with a thermometer. As the warning was red, the engine temp gauge went to hot, as soon as the fan sound and slippage issue stopped (after about 10-15 seconds) the message went away and the engine temps gauge went back down to normal. What may cause this? Also, how long a dealership should warranty a its trans work?
View 3 RepliesFord Wiring/Electrical :: 1999 F250 - A/C Compressor Stopped Working?
I have an early 99 F250. The a/c compressor stopped working. Have checked pressures, switches, freon etc. Found the switch in the dash is not getting power to send to the compressor. Where the feed for this switch is? I have checked all fuses, all good. The manual does not show a relay as being an a/c relay, so I am stumped without taking it somewhere now but I would like to avoid that.

I've had my PiP a month now. When ave temps were in the 30's EV range read 12.4 and I usually got an extra mile on my drives. With warming temps I was getting a read of 12.8 lately and 13.0 for the first time this morning. Thats with daytime temps of 60 but overnight it was still just upper 30's.
View 19 RepliesPrius (2001-03) :: Bad To Turn Off Engine While In Warming Up Mode?
When I'm leaving the house and I pull out onto the street, I have to go close up a very annoying gate which takes a good few minutes to do. The car is still in it's warm up mode so the ICE is running the whole time. I know just turning it off would save gas, but would it be bad for the engine, to turn it off with the key before it shuts itself off?
View 9 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Unusual Acceleration When Engine Is Warming Up
Basically, when driving shortly after turning on the car (when the engine is still warming up) I often experience a 'shot' of acceleration despite not further depressing the accelerator. In other words, I'll be driving along smoothly and suddenly the car will speed up slightly by itself without me having done anything. This only occurs when the HSI is past the middle (i.e. when the engine is powering the car) and when the car has recently been switched on. It's almost as if the sensor that detects my acceleration is re-calibrating itself while I'm driving, increasing the input to the engine.
The first time it happened it was a bit of a shock and I was a little scared, however I'm used to it by now and can anticipate it happening (however it doesn't happen 100% of the time). It's nothing too serious - it probably only accelerates a couple of KMs above what I'm actually doing but still is a bit of a worry. I'll be taking it in for a service shortly and seeing what they say about.
Prius (2004-09) :: Warming Up In Hot Weather To Protect Battery
I noticed that if I turn on the car and just drive with the AC on, depending on the outside temperature, the battery goes down to 2-3 bars from 6 bars within a mile a so. As it has been discussed in this forum extensively, the higher the battery charge swing, the lower the battery life. I noticed something yesterday, I warmed up the car till the engine stops with the AC on, and then the drive off. The battery stayed at 6 bars for all my commute and I believe this is healthy for the battery. Suggest/observe similar behavior or am I just burning gas for nothing. I have a scan gauge and definitely you get worse fuel economy for the first few miles if you warm up the car.
