Prius (Gen 2) Fuel :: 2005 - Fuel Consumption Increase After Service And New Brakes
So, my 2005 Gen II Prius went for a scheduled service on Wednesday, 70k miles, Toyota main dealer. They called and said it needed new front brake pads and disks, I was surprised but gave the go ahead. There would occasionally have been a mild squealing sound from the brakes at very low speed so I accepted the pads might need replacing, I was surprised the disks needed replacing but it hard to argue about brakes, especially as I only have the car a year (I'm the second owner and it has a full Toyota service history). It had a "major" service, new spark plugs, new front brake pads and disks.
Since collecting it I've noticed that the engine seems to kick in more often and needs higher revs. The fuel consumption seems higher, normally mid 50's MPG (imperial gallon) now 35MPG. However it hasn't been driven many miles since its been serviced so its a low distance for calculating MPG. I've also noticed that the car seems to slow more quickly without applying the brakes, a regularly driven hill that I coast down at 48kph now only gives 35kph. Also, if I drive on a flat road for a mile or 2 and coast to a stop the front brake disks feel VERY hot, way too hot to touch, drivers side more so that passenger side.
Prius (Gen 2) Fuel :: Remarkable MPG Increase After 12v Battery?
Ok I read about replacing a bad or ailing 12v battery (mine was original - 2007 - and resting at 10.1v) and an increase in mpg's. But I didnt expect this kind of increase!
I bought the car 9-14-12 and had been driving it very hypermilishly...lol...and getting 48mpg average.

Is it ok to shift into neutral when the car is moving?

Since I got Prius I've noticed that driving at 50mph returns 80+mpg , 90+mpg if I let it gently glide at -1mph per 1 mile. As it gradually slows down, the mileage starts to decrease. By the time I get down to 45 mph the mileage shows around 70mpg,
I get down to 40mph, I'm only getting 50mpg. When I keep my speed between 40 and 45 I get about 52-55 mpg for the day. If I keep my speed between 45 and 50, I get 55-60mpg for the day.
Prius (Gen 3) Fuel :: Can Synthetic Tranny Fluid Increase MPG
I have the 2010 prius V with the 17in tires. I love the rims on them Vs the hubcaps on the other models.
HOwever I have read that it is hard to hypermile with the 17in rims. SO I was trying to figure out what I can do to raise that MPG up there. I have noticed that my prius does not glide well.
I have 2LBs more air in the tires then it says on the side. mine say 60LB so i have 62.
My only thought is to running Amsoil 0w30 oil and amsoil synthetic tranny fluid. I know on a regular gas car you can up your MPG at least 2 MPG or more.
Touareg :: MPG Increase With Tire Pressure
My avg MPG with mainly city driving was around 14 with 39PSI all the way around. I adjusted my tires up to the recommended 44/36 front/back and I am now at 16+ in the city.

View 7 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: Possible Causes Of Increase In Fuel Economy
Wondering what could cause an increase in fuel economy. My GTI has been running at 29 +/- MPG since the day I bought it, but no higher than 30. I took it out for a ride on Sunday after I changed the front brakes Saturday. The dash tells me it's running at 34. So I filled it up and manually clocked it on a 50 mile trip. I refilled at the exact same pump - just to remove any error. And what I calculated is that the computer is right.
There is no loss of power. However, I've been fighting intermittent misfires on cyl #1 and #2. the misfire on #1 has all but gone away after finding out the coil wasn't sitting right and the spark had loosened up. I've tracked #2 down to either the injector or carbon. I'll be taking care of that next weekend.
Ford Aerostar :: Running With AWD Unplugged Increase Fuel Mileage?
Winter is over and summer is here. Will running with the AWD module unplugged increase fuel mileage? Will it do any harm to the drivetrain? (Assume matched tires, good alignment and suspension).
Signed, Looking to squeeze a buck anyway I can.
Ford F-150 (2009-2014) :: Premium Unleaded Gas Increase Fuel Mileage?
I was wondering if one would experience increased fuel mileage &/or power with the 5.0 by using unleaded premium gas, and if so, how much? I know this is true w/ the 6.2L in the F-250, and was wondering if the same applied to the 5.0?
View 14 RepliesPrius (Gen 3) :: Is There A Way To Increase The Range Of The Key Fob?
I've got a Gen III Prius with the remote A/C start option and am wondering if there is a way to increase the range of the key fob?
I have to park in the sun all day. My office is on the second floor of my building with a window overlooking the parking lot. I can see my car as I walk out. With summer approaching, I'd like to be able to point my fob at the car from my office, start the A/C, and have the car be somewhat cool by the time I walk down to it.
Prius PHEV Plug-In :: Using BMS+ To Increase ICE Assist
I have been using a BMS+ with my 4KWH kit for a few weeks now. I want to know if there are any other users out there using a BMS+ with a Engineer Kit. I have found that the BMS+ to increase ICE assist and improve fuel efficiency in highway mode (greater than 70kph). Since most of my driving in is in highway mode I find this device to be very useful.

I used to have other car that used to make a loud beep upon locking. My prius 2010 III is bit nimble and social. It blinks and makes a little chirp. I would rather need a loud beep so to locate and ensure my car is locked especially in noisy environments.

Lexus IS 350 and I don't expect the Prius handle or accelerate like the IS. However, I have always driven import compacts that have handled well and would like my future Prius to handle well with a very tight and precise suspension and steering. That being said I will be looking to do suspension upgrades in order to increase the rigidity of the chassis and handling capability of the Prius.

Prius (2004-09) :: 10% Reduction In Rolling Resistance - MPG Increase
How much fuel consumption would decrease (MPG increase) for a 10% reduction in tire rolling resistance?
My thinking is that if you're not doing much freeway mileage then the rolling resistance and air resistance are probably about equal contributions. So in a kind of oversimplified calculation I guess that a 10% RR reduction could give up to a 5% reduction in fuel consumption? Sounds like a bit of a over-estimate.
Prius (2010-12) :: Rattling Noise In The Rear Increase With Speed
Once in awhile, as in maybe once a month or every few thousand miles, I hear a rattling noise in the rear below the car. It is very audible and everyone in the car notice it.
This happen only when I have been in traffic for awhile during which:
1) when battery is running really low from moving at low speed
2) After which the engine is turned on to charge the battery
3) moving low speed with the engine running.
The vibrating noise increases as my speed increase, getting more audible and vibrating faster. After a certain point (maybe 30 mph) the noise stopped.
Prius (2010-12) :: Doors Not Locking Automatically With Speed Increase
I wanted to know that at the moment my prius does not automatically locks the doors when reaching above 20km/hr as its suppose to.
I went through the manual and tried to turn the power button on and pushing the gear in N and pressing the lock button but it didn't work.
Prius Plug-in 2012-15 :: PHV Range Could Increase Mileage Without Using EV Mode?
I'm just curious...if somebody drives a PHV Prius like a regular Prius (not using the 13 mile pure EV mode range), could they theoretically get better gas mileage by staying in the electric part of the hybrid system indicator?
