Ford Brakes/Suspension :: 1994 F250 - Blown Brake Line / No Brakes At All?
I have a 1994 F-250 4x4 w/manual transmission. I was driving a few days ago when the brake pedal suddenly went to the floor. I had almost no brakes (less than 10% at most), but luckily was able to get off the road safely. It was immediately apparent that the line connecting the T-fitting and the passenger side drum had broken.
I have never blown a brake line before, but I always assumed that you would have either front or rear brakes, depending on which line blew. Unfortunately I was wrong! The master cylinder reservoir was about 3/4 full when I initially checked it, but after I moved (slowly) the truck to a safer spot in the parking lot, I checked again and it was nearly empty.
Is my brake system behaving normally (no brakes front or rear, blown line completely empties the reservoir), or should there be some safety factor built in? If the system is operating correctly, is there any way to convert to a system that doesn't give out fully when a line is blown?
Passat (B6) :: Can't Get The Brakes To Completely Stop Vibrating
I have had neuspeed p-flo intake on my Passat for about 2 months now and I still can't manage to get the brakes to completely stop vibrating. I know it keeps rubbing up against the master brake cylinder, but how I should put it/ anything I can do to fix it?
View 4 RepliesFord Excursion :: Brakes Not Working Completely?
Down hill toward intersection with light that turned red. I braked fairly hard and then all of a sudden, brake pedal goes to floor and I go through the light. I pump brake once or twice and still nothing. Luckily I made it through without hitting anyone and eventually stopped with emergency brake. Turns out the line to the rear brakes blew. It was probably weak and maybe the pressure from braking hard blew it. This was sudden. There was no warning whatsoever. Reservoir was empty and practically no brakes in the front. There was enough front brakes to keep the truck from idling forward, but that is it. I thought that I should have had full front brakes with a modern day master cylinder. Looks like Ford blew it with this one. Very dangerous design.
Is there an upgrade available? I never want this to happen again.
Brakes - Buick - Century :: Right Rear Brakeline Blown Out
My right rear brakeline blew out on my 2000 Buick Century, but even though the car has dual master cylinder which had been giving me no trouble, brake light not lit, car would stop properly untill blowout, no blowouts or leaks in front brake system, I lost pedal altogether for both systems and had to creep home using emergency brake. Isn't a dual system supposed to still give me my front brakes, in a rear blowout? ABS seems ok, anti-lock light never came on.
View 10 RepliesGolf VI R :: Brakes Squeaking - Caliper Pin Completely Loose
I have the TyrolSport Brake Caliper stiffening kit on my R. My brakes were squeaking and I had not greased the pins in a bit so I thought that might be the issue. When I went to grease them, I notice one pin was completely loose. It was my driver front lower. I greased it and tightened it back up. That was maybe 2 -3 week ago. I checked again on Friday before my track day on Saturday and the same pin was lose. Not all the way like last time, but not locked tight. This one pin is the only one that seems to have issues. The other three are rock solid.
View 6 RepliesTouareg :: Grabby Brakes Especially When Going Super Slowly Or Stopping Completely
The brakes in my new '05 Treg are really, really touchy, especially when going super slowly (1 mph or less), or stopping completely. I find it almost impossible to bring the entire vehicle to a complete stop without the vehicle "jerking" backwards - if you know what I mean. It's almost like the brakes were being operated by an on/off switch. I got the "nothing can be done, that's how they all are" speech today from my dealer. Any solutions? Different brake pads, maybe?
View 24 RepliesSubaru - Impreza :: 1999 - Soft And Pulsing Brakes / Now One Brake Line Blown
I have a 1999 Subaru Impreza Wagon that I have owned for about 2.5 years, and I love it. I travel for work and I use rental cars alot. I have noticed in the past year that my brakes feel softer than most cars I drive, but I figure.. they are new cars, and my car is pretty old.
In the past 2-3 months I have notices a pulsing in my brakes...it sounds/feels kinda like the ABS, but I was thinking it would be worth getting my brakes inspected soon.
Then this past week, I totally blew a brake line when I was driving.
The car has about 140,000 miles on it and the mechanic says a brake line alone may not be related to the pulsing sounds...because brake lines usually go because of rust....
So...thoughts on things I should be looking at? What could the pulsing be a symptom of?
if one brake line blew, and it is rust, is the other one not far behind? (this was a new england car up until 2 years ago)
Ford Brakes/Suspension :: Replacing Shocks / Bushing Completely Seized Up To The Bolt
I made a thread in the F150 section but maybe it should have went here. Anyhow I'm replacing the front shocks on my 99 150, and well the bushing was completely seized up to the bolt on the bottom of the shock and I ended up breaking the one side of the shock mount off with it. I can't see any easy way of getting it off, I fear I might run into the same problem with the other side.
Would it be ok to just bolt the new shock back on, sans the forward mount? If its just bolted through the rear bolt hole will there be too much play? I really don't feel like replacing the whole lower suspension arm on this beater truck, and I dont think my welding skills are up to that. I don't think my little stick welder even has enough heat.
Ford Brakes/Suspension :: 2000 E150 - Outer Wheel Bearing Completely Shred
On my 2000 E-150, what is the thread for the wheel spindle, the one that holds the wheel bearings in place?
I had the outer wheel bearing completely shred yesterday, and I don't know if the threads were hurt yet as when I got home and the tow truck dropped it there, I didn't want to tear it apart. So I'm at work and would like to take a die home to chase the threads just in case.
Autozone's website has the spindle nut kit, but it shows:
Thread Size: 3/4-16 & M20-1.0
A machinist here tells me that they are not the same, so how do I know what I have?
Prius (Gen 2) :: AC Fan Stopped Completely
My 2005 with 240,000 miles
I have changed the blower motor once already, about 60,000 miles ago. It fan has been working intermittently, but has recently stopped completely. I ironically had the battery replaced on the same day (morning) that the blower stopped. Because of the intermittent operation, I don't think a fuse is the culprit. I stopped at a dealer and the service manager, because I couldn't leave the vehicle suggested that I may be a relay.
Also, with the outside air flow option on, I am getting cold air trickling through the vents.
Prius (2010-12) :: Engine Blown Due To Low Oil
My engine was blown due to low oil most likely. What is a fair price to replace with a used one at local dealership? Is Prius v (lowercase v for the Prius v wagon) engine exactly the same as Prius?
View 10 RepliesPrius V :: ECM Malfunctioning - Blown Fuses
A dealership is attempting to charge me several hundred dollars to replace blown fuses that they claim is a result of an overpowered attempt at charging a seemingly dead 12V battery. The interesting part is that after also replacing the air/fuel ratio sensor (which they initially claimed was the cause of a check engine light even after replacing the fuses) Toyota is telling them that the ECM should be replaced in order to extinguish the check engine indicator.
View 8 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: MFD Gone Blank Completely
The MFD in my '04 has gone blank. Completely. Not the intermittent or weird problems listed in the infamous TSB, just Blank! I get the Prius splash screen, dimly,for about a second, then... nothing. However, the functions still work! For example, touching the screen at the approximate spot where, say, the fan control would be... and the fan setting changes (and you hear a beep). Car has only 40K miles....
View 5 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: Cigarette Lighter Fuse Have Blown
So I have an Android smartphone. That I always put on the charger in my 2005. However. I have blown the fuse to the cigarette lighter. Both the one in the center console and the one under the passenger side dashboard.
The last time that happened. I bought the indicated 15 Amp fuse (as the Owner's Manual indicates - vaguely) Only to find that swapping out fuse 20 IIRC. Yielded no power to those ports.
Prius (Gen 2) :: Air Not Blown On Front Window Side
My prius trouble is not blowing air in to the front window, On the sides and on the legs is okay. Salon filter I replaces today, but nothing.
View 6 RepliesPrius V :: LED Lights Are Not Working - Blown Fuse?
So I added in a set of LED lights for my license plate and parking lights. In addition to HID's for the headlights tonight. At some point my tails/parking & license plate lights shut off. I assume its a fuse, I'm wondering if this is common or the result of low quality product.
I've used the same installer/lights on every car I've had for the last 5 yrs and never an issue. No issues in my Scion Xd, Mustangs and so on.
Prius (2004-09) :: Won't Start - 3 Fuses Blown
My cousin's 2009 Prius won't start and jump starting did nothing for them. In fact, when they tried it, they got sparks when they hooked up the ground cable and the headlights came on and stayed on the entire time they were attempting to jump it. Try again, and same thing but now I know they didn't go about it incorrectly or anything. There are also at least three blown fuses, I believe she said they corresponded to the smart key system, electronic throttle control (both up front) and then one in the trunk for the hybrid system.
View 14 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Completely Dead And Won't Start
I've been out of town for a week and left my almost new 2010 sitting in my carport spot. When I just went outside to start her up it is completely dead. Keyless entry wouldn't work so I used the key that pops out. Put the key by the start button and tried starting. Nothing happens. No lights. No nothing.
I guess I could have left something on maybe? This is pretty concerning! I don't know what to do! I don't even know how to jump start the thing. Would Toyota tow it for me for free if needed?
Prius (Gen 1) :: 2003 Gas Motor Was Blown, Had Swapped While Replacing
I bought a 2003 Prius from the original owner with 130k miles on it.
The electric motor was fine and would start but the gas motor was blown. I bought a used gas engine from a reputable company, and my mechanic did the swap. He is the best mechanic I've come across but he's clearly stuck.
What to do now?
