Prius (Gen 3) :: 2010 EV Mode Will Not Work / Throttle In PWR Mode
I have a concern about my 2010 Prius V(five). I've noticed some issues lately that may all tie in to one big problem.
1. My ev mode will not work at all. My battery will be fully charged and not in "B" mode. Turning car off and on will not work.
2. Engine will not turn off when coming to stops. Mind you when the battery is above 3 lines.
3. Throttle response feels like it's in PWR mode(super sensitive) but the engine is leggy. If I floor it for a sec the RPMS are super slow to come down.
4. The Eco line is quick to go in PWR portion and I'm not pushing it any harder than I was before all of this started. It seems like when I push the gas it skips the electric and automatically pulls from the engine.
Prius (2010-12) :: EV Mode Not Available Sometimes
I didn't see anything in my search. Why is EV mode not available sometimes? i know for sure it isn't available when i start the car. But sometimes else it is not available. And I don't mean "excessive speed" or "low battery"

View 12 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Can't Put The Car In EV Mode
When I start my car at the beginning of the day I can never put my prius in EV mode even when the battery (battery at half) is not in low.
Also, as I am driving down my small street for about a few mins then it let me put in EV mode. When I do put it in EV mode, I only can drive up to 10mph and it cuts off.
This is when I'm already been driving for a good period of time like 30 mins. For example when coming from work my battery is charged pretty well because I'm on the freeway for about 24 miles. I put my prius on EV mode and I'm able to go up to 25 mpg. How come I am able to go 25mpg in EV mode after being in the prius for at least 30 mins and when in the morning in EV mode only at 10mpg?

View 15 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Why Car Switches To EV Mode At 40-45 Mph
I notice my Prius sometimes turns-off the engine & runs pure EV when cruising at 40-45 miles/hour. Sometimes for a few miles! That seems very inefficient vs. taking power directly from the engine:
- Gasoline--->burn---> transmission--->wheels
- 1 state transition (chemical-to-mechanical)
- Gasoline--->burn--->transmission--->generator--->store in battery--->extract from battery--->motor--->wheels
- 5 state transitions
Prius (2010-12) :: AC Mode Keeps Charging By Its Own
Prius Five 2012 fully loaded in Blizzard Pearl. A/C keep changing mode from face/head only to feet every 2-3 minutes on its own. Auto button light is off and this continues..... I've stumped all the dealers, no one has a fix.
View 11 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Cannot Get The Car Into Accessory Mode?
New owner of a used 2010 here, and I cannot get the car into accessory mode. It should be simple, press the power button without your foot on the brake, right? but no... it just doesn't do anything.
But here's the thing - the car is a former rental (Zipcar), and I wonder if they somehow disabled accessory mode to avoid dead-battery issues?
The other (less appealing) possibility is that they broke it accidentally somehow while wiring up their magical gizmo that allowed Zipcard holders into the car with no key... but that doesn't make as much sense to me.
Prius (2010-12) :: How To Set A/C In Heating Mode
I cannot figure out what to do when cold weather comes and I want heat in the car. I've never owned or driven a hybrid. Looks like there are two alternatives:
Set the internal temperature setting to whatever warmth I want, disable the "Automatic" setting, and assume that outside air will be drawn in and warmed by the engine and circulated inside.
Use "Automatic" and let the A/C setting automatically run to warm the air to the temperature I set.
Prius (2010-12) :: Top Speed In EV Mode?
What's top speed for EV mode? I was able to keep it in EV when driving through town, after a hill, and keep it around 41-42 for a little while before my speed dropped and I had to use a little more throttle.
I don't understand why you can't lock in EV and deplete more of your battery at times, such as a few miles before getting on the freeway. Seems a bit wasteful, since the highway portion would give you plenty of time to build up charge again.
Prius (2010-12) :: Driving In No Mode
When I first got my generation III, I had it on Eco. I found this hard to adjust to after being in a Camry. So I got the car out of Eco mode, but didn't put it in either EV or Power mode. I've been assuming this is OK for over 35,000 miles now. Is there something wrong in what I'm doing?
View 12 RepliesPrius (Gen 3) :: 2010 - Can Start And Move In EV Mode?
I'm still thinking about buying a 2010 Prius. I'd like to know: Suppose I want to, in the morning, move the car from my usual parking spot to another area of the apt. building's parking lot until I leave for work later on. So I would back up a few feet, then slowly drive about 150 feet (at most) to another parking spot. When I press the Power button, does that automatically start the engine (ICE), or can I move the car all in EV mode?

I was pulling out from a side road onto a much busier road. I had a small gap, put it in pwr mode, and hit the accelerator. Much to my surprise I actually chirped the tires. I only use eco mode, so I am not used to how quickly it gets into the ICE when in pwr mode. Consider me impressed with how this car can actually do it all
View 2 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: ECO Mode Not Working Right After Service
OK, I couldn't take it any more, I took my 2010 III Prius in for the oil/tire rotate and had them change the backup beep to one, how nice. Within three minutes of driving from the dealer, I knew something was different, it wasn't acting the same, in eco mode it acted more like power mode. I noticed my normal driving was giving me lower mileage, seems like the engine is running longer etc.
I took it back and they said no way the beep change would have done that, yeah I agree, but something changed. When in eco mode, if I am running along at a low speed and step on it, it gets up like power mode almost, it never did that before. They had it a couple hours, ran full diagnostics on it, nope, nothing wrong. It's almost like something go changed, upgraded to pep it up, yet it's yanked about 6-7 miles per gallon from me.
Prius (2010-12) :: EV Mode Won't Engage For First Several Miles
Have a 2014 Prius III. Was getting 50-60 mpg until i took it in for the 5k mile service. Immediately afterwards the mpg dropped to 43-50 mpg. It seems when the car is cold, it will start in EV mode for a few seconds and then the engine will kick in and it will not enter EV mode for the first few miles even with the battery 80% charged, driving under 20 mph, a/c off and keeping the Hybrid system indicator in what should be the EV range.

View 19 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: How To Engage Maintenance Mode On G3
Maintenance Mode is useful for running the engine continuously without it shutting off, such as when you do a coolant drain and fill and want to purge air out of the cooling system. This thread was created to clarify the procedure for engaging Maintenance Mode on the G3 Prius after attempting to do it according to the Prius service manual and finding that the manual does not clearly describe or include all the required steps.
Perform the follows steps in less than 60 seconds to engage Maintenance Mode for the G3 Prius.
Begin with the car and all accessories turned off.
Set the parking brake.
With the car in Park, and your foot off the brake pedal, turn the Power Switch "On" by pressing it twice.
With the car in Park, and your foot off the brake pedal, fully depress the accelerator twice.
Step on the brake pedal and use the shift lever to shift from Park to Neutral.
With the car in Neutral, and your foot off the brake pedal, fully depress the accelerator twice.
Step on the brake pedal and press the Park switch/button to shift from Neutral to Park.
With the car in Park, and your foot off the brake pedal, fully depress the accelerator twice.
Check that "Maintenance Mode" is displayed in the multi-information display.
Step on the brake pedal and then press the Power Switch to start the engine.
Important: DO NOT drive the car in maintenance mode to avoid damage to the transaxle.
