Prius (2010-12) :: Dashboard Lights Suddenly Went Totally Dark
I just drove my 2 year old prius during the snowstorm for the first time. While parked, I turned the car on, headlights on, and tried to move the car. The gas engine already shut down during warm-up. Car was stuck in snow. I had to move back and forth on electrical only a few times before getting out.
Here is the question. After a second or third try in reverse, dashboard lights suddenly went totally dark, and would not turn on until headlights were off. I could not drive like that at night, so I stopped and googled it on my cell. Turns out the dimmer was all the way off.
But how???? I did not touch it. The car started just fine, everything working. Only after a few attempts to get of of the snow the dash went out? Is there something wrong with the electrical circuit? I did try to move the car very gently, without flooring the pedal.

What this feature is called for my Camry to where the lights automatically come on in my car in the dashboard area? Sometimes the lights come on when it is light outside, so that bashes the theory posed to me that the light comes on when it is dark outside.
Are there any other auto lights that I need to know about? This is a Camry hybrid.

Presenlty my switch that turns on the heat/ac is dark as is the switch for the speed for that device is dark. Are these bulbs that burn out and just need replacing? the two other switches in that area are lit and fine. Or could it be a wiring issue?

I have a very long commute, 60 miles each way and 1 hour minimum. I installed a low end Cobra 40 channel CB radio to pass the time and to get traffic information. The antenna was purchased and trimmed to my car from a communication store which carries CB radios. My problem is, there is so much Radio Frequency noise generated when the Prius is put into drive (not even driven and without the gasoline motor starting) that it is picked up by the antenna and makes tons of static on the radio. The radio is virtually useless.

I have a 2014 IS 250 F Sport and in less than 500 miles, the car has this "LOUD" clunking/thumping noise coming from the rear when I pass a bump or uneven road. Brought it back to the dealership but the Lexus specialist/technicians said this noise is the characteristic of the vehicle which of course it cannot be a characteristic of the vehicle. This is not the 1st Lexus vehicle I own.
Also, navigation/radio shuts off while the car is in motion? Dashboard just turns dark (completely blackout) while the car is in motion??

Ive been hearing some noises coming from the right side of the dashboard when I turn the heat on. Then last night, smoke/steam started coming through the vents with a strong odor. Popped the hood and there is some smoke coming from behind the engine as well. Sounds like the heater core but why the smoke from the engine? Temperature gauge reads as normal and I have no lights on the dash.

The small LCD display (Int temp, fan speed, etc.) in my Prius IV with Nav Package is very dark, read "unreadable" when sunlight is prominent in the car. This is so even with the panel rheostat turned all the way up to bright. Is this a faulty display or is there any work around if not?

What could be causing the two dark dips in this headlight pattern? These are supposed to be the LED headlights. The cut-off is pretty good, but the dark area on the left is noticeable on the road. I didn't notice the one on the right until I lined up this shot against the garage door.

My 2003 Honda Element sometimes generates a vibration that feels just like driving down a washboard dirt road. You know one that the ridges are very close together. This only happens around 40 MPH with a load on the engine. At first I thought it was a wheel, tire or suspension issue. But I can make it stop instantly by pushing or releasing the gas pedal. So this leads me to think it is transmission related. This is a automatic. I would like to see the car sometime but would not feel right about passing on this problem without knowing the cost to fix it. Stumped in Seattle.

My v will be 3 years old soon, and it has developed various electronics problem.
1. Night time GPS screen got so dark - now use Day time all the time as I learned that this was the prevailing issue.
2. The dealer swapped the GPS screen trying to fix the GPS screen issue. After the swap, I cannot switch back and forth between the map screen and audio screen. Once I am using the map, it just is a matter of luck to go back to the audio screen.
3. After using the windshield washer, the wipers do not come out automatically.
Now here is my problem - the problem 2 and 3 occur 98% of times - not 100% of times. When I took the car to the dealer, it was one of the 2% time and they could move back and force between the map and audio screen. Despite the fact that I showed them the video, the dealer said that they could not do anything as they could not duplicate the problem.
I am going to bring the car in again and tell them of the new problem 3. It was also videotaped.

I've had changed the Tension Pulley, The Belt, Checked the Power Steering, Removed the belt from the AC unit..smaller belt now....Tested the Alternator, it's working like a champ. I have a 4.0L 6 Cylinder. My mechanic wants to check the intake gasket and another intake which he spoke of and I can't remember at the moment however with no guarantees these or one of the two could be the problem. Today I noticed a oil spot on the ground under my car about the size of a silver dollar. It had been sitting for about 24hrs. It was super thick, almost like honey. It seems like its coming from above the dr side cv joint. It doenst look like transmission fluid at all though, it has no red tinge to it whatsoever. I've had my car for a couple of months, and noticed last night a warning light flashing in the car in the driveway in the dark. I got in the car and tried to identify the icon but couldn't- bad eyes, apparently, and it flashes too quickly for me to make it out. It immediately stopped when I turned the car on. Occasionally, right after I start the car, the HDD display screen will be dark for a minute or two, and then display the map. I can go to the other screens, like Audio or the setup screens, but the map and the backup camera screens are dark. The still-functional buttons are responsive as usual (no delays/hangs). When the map finally "wakes up", it behaves normally. I don't have to do anything other than wait for it to wake up. It does this about 10% of the time. I have tried to correlate this to something, but it seems totally random.
