Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 Revving More Than It Used To While Going Uphill
My wife and i have noticed over the last few months that our 08 has been revving higher, (much higher), than it used to when driving uphill. It has 65 k miles.
View 5 RepliesPrius Plug-in 2012-15 :: High Pitched Revving Sound
I'm rolling down the freeway in stop and go traffic, so I have been EV stacking. Clicked from EV to HV several times over the course of 5 minutes. Then, I hear this fairly high pitched revving sound - even and constant rev up, not rev/idle/rev. I thought it was the truck next to me, so I turn down the radio and away from the truck but it happened again. I would stomp on the gas for a moment, and it would subside - not completely because it would start doing it again very soon. I'm not accelerating, but it would be like throwing it into neutral and revving. When I come to a complete stop, it would not go to EV - the light isn't on like when it is warming up the ICE.
My exit was coming up soon, so I would alternate pumping the brake and gas to get it to stop. Only when I was at the light that I powered off the car to reboot. Since then, it did not recur. Strange... Perhaps related, but I doubt it - I had bumped into a vehicle around 3-4 mph the day before. I was... drowsy.
Toyota - Matrix :: 2008 - Whining Sound When Accelerating
I have a 2008 Toyota Matrix with 56k miles on it. Recently it starting to make a whining sound when accelerating. It's very subtle, but kinda sounds like a plane taking off. It seems to go away once the car is moving/maintaining speed. I just got an oil change and the air filter replaced. Also, it seems to idle rougher than it used too, or I could just be paranoid.

View 4 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2006 XLT - Smacking Sound When Accelerating
I've had my 2006 XLT F150 (5.4L) for about a month now and have recently noticed what I can only describe as a 'smacking' sound under my truck when I accelerate quickly. It sounds as if I had something stuck to my drive shaft that is slapping the underside of my truck....except I don't. I don't think that its the timing chain because it seems to be coming from under the cab (between drivers/passenger seat maybe). I hear it most often if I try to quickly accelerate from a normal speed (50mph or so) to pass another vehicle. I do not hear it otherwise. Starts with a 'tink tink' then sounds like something hitting the underside. I'm perplexed at what this could be.
View 6 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 - Clunking Sound When Accelerating From A Dead Stop
Bought an 05 FX4 SuperCab in May - been in shop twice for a "clunking" sound when accelerating from a dead stop. Dealer says it's "operating as intended" and that no damage was being if I continue to drive. I thought it was a rear problem with the limited slip. Dealer says it's the tranny and that Ford is looking into the problem (apparently quite a few are coming back). She runs smooth and shifts fine once she gets going. Just starting from a complete stop feels painfully wrong.

My 2005 F150 makes a diesel sound when I accelerate. It only does it between 1600 to 1800 RPM and stops. It only does it in overdrive. Its a 5.4 liter with about 95000 miles on it. What this could be? I cant tell if the noise is coming from the tranny or engine.
View 1 RepliesCamry :: 2010 LE - High Pitched Whining Noise When Accelerating Or Revving Engine In Park
I bought a CPO 2010 Camry LE (2.5 4 cyl, 6 sp auto) a few months ago. The car had around 34K miles when I got it, and ever since then, it has had a high pitched whining noise when accelerating or revving the engine in park. It is noticeable from around 2500RPM up, and seems to be a little louder when the engine is cold.
I have left it at the dealer twice, and both times they have come back and said it is normal. I can't believe this, because I have owned many cars over the years, most of them being fairly dilapidated, yet most of them haven't had a noise like this. I think I have read a comment online somewhere that an issue like this was found due to a bad power steering pump .
Prius (Gen 1) :: 2002 - Sound Like Jet Engine When Accelerating And Braking
I have a 2002 Prius that started sounding weird about a week ago... sounded like a jet engine when accelerating and braking. Also, it felt like it wasn't going into gear right when accelerating from a stop in either R or D.
I took it to the Toyota dealer, and the Prius guy drove it, and told me it was the "transmission,' which would cost about 5K to fix. I should get a computer diagnosis. So I took the car in earlier this week, and the only code that showed up was P0, random system misfire.
Well, last night, I was driving and 3 warning lights came on all at once:
1) power system warning light
2) hybrid vehicle battery light
3) hybrid system warning light
Prius (Gen 2) :: 2008 - Engine Noise When Accelerating
I have a 2008 Prius and recently hit the 85K mark. A couple of weeks ago, about a week after my most recent oil change, I started noticing a noise when I accelerate. It's kind of a wah-wah-wah-wah or wuh-wuh-wuh-wuh noise that gets faster the faster I'm going. It's not terribly loud - I can't hear it if the windows are open or if the volume on my radio is cranked up.
It disappears when I stop accelerating or sharply reduce my acceleration. At about 40-50 mph, the noise goes away. I'm not sure if this is because road noise blocks it out, or it's so fast-paced that it just becomes one constant noise.
Today for the first time since this all started, I also noticed that unless I'm not accelerating at all, I have poor gas mileage (like under 25 mpg). This happened once before and went away the next day so it might be unrelated.
Can I wait until my 90K service to have this checked out? Should I visit my mechanic now? Do you think this is a timing chain issue? What am I looking at?
Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 - Shakes While Accelerating
I have 2008 Prius with 80K and I will try my best to give all the information that I can. The past few days during about 10-15 MPH driving, my car started to shake a little bit when I try to accelerate. It doesn't want to go no more than 5-10 MPH and I feel like I was driving on the small bumps. It went away after 10 seconds. Again, I can't duplicate the issue. It happend only twice.
Could this be related to 12 V battery issue, tires issues, transmission, fuel injection, spark plugs?
Prius (Gen 3) :: Clicking / Ticking Sound When Accelerating From A Complete Stop
On the drive home tonight, I noticed a clicking/ ticking sound coming from the car when accelerating from a complete stop. I would accelerate slowly enough to keep the vehicle in EV mode for the duration of the acceleration. Not sure if this is normal.
View 2 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Sound Coming From Left Front Of Car When Accelerating
I have had my 07' Prius about a month now and have noticed a odd sound coming from the left front of the car when accelerating. When I accelerate I hear an off metallic crackling sound. It almost sounds like marbles swishing around. The sound is coming from the left side of the car in the engine bay. If I had to guess it sound like it's coming from under the invertor area. The sound only happens when I am accelerating at a moderate pace.

My brother and I noticed my engine making this noise today, I was under the hood and he was giving the engine gas with the car in neutral.

Sounds like air pressure being released, sort of a quick whistle or squeal just as he pushes the gas pedal, coming from under the hood somewhere.
Sonata NF (2006-10) :: Engine Sound Much Louder Like Revving / Humming
In my 2007 Sonata, I hit a poorly placed high manhole cover in a dip in the road, in the dark, going 30MPH, whacked it good before I could adjust...
I then pulled the car over, it seemed to go dead, then the car did crank back up, the engine sounded much louder, like a loud rev/hum, not quiet like usual.
I next drove a mile to a c-store, transmission seemed OK, no leaks, did see a check engine light briefly, but it disappeared. Car cranked OK, headed home, same sound right at cranking and at moderate speed.
Finally, I jacked the car up on the front left, from research appears that the plastic engine shields got smacked good along the front and near the right tire and bent back quite a bit on the left side. There seems to be no other structural damage that my untrained eye could see, just one indention you'll see in a couple of the photos that I think is part of the car design at that spot.
Again, no leaks, no smoke, no caution lights of any kind now.
Photos are attached...
My Hyundai's engine now sounds like a Mustang! Hoping it's just the engine noise from these plastic covers now being bent/destroyed in some spots, exposing the engine and the typical noise you'd hear without them...
Subaru - Forester :: 2008 - Revving At High Altitudes

But what i want to ask is what is causing my 2007 ford f150 4.6l to rev up while in drive while im just costing. see i was at about 20-30 miles per hour and almost to 2 rpms and repeatedly my truck would rev in the range of 20 to 30 miles per hour for about 1 seconds but would go back to normal after that rev. I rely on my truck for work and also while I was in Park at a target parking lot my truck began to rev up Wow and park I don't know what is causing this....
View 3 RepliesCivic - Honda :: 1996 - Downshift / Start Revving And Clicking Sound
My husband was just returning from a long car trip in our 1996 Honda Civic when the engine seemed to downshift, start revving, there was a clicking sound, and so he put it in neutral and pulled off to the side of the road. As he was pulling off, there was a loud popping sound, clicking continued, and the car died. He could restart it, still clicking, seemed like it was running in a really low gear. Had it towed to a CarTalk recommended auto repair shop which put him about 2.5 hours from home. The garage called us and said that the car had almost no oil in it and it was likely that the engine was starting to seize and pretty much done for.
So regarding the low oil...we got an oil change right before the trip, so we were not quite 1500 miles, and three days into the oil change. The oil light never came on (until the car stalled and ALL the lights came on.) or my husband obviously would have stopped sooner. The garage is now putting the car up and trying to figure out where all the oil went. They put in over three quarts to fill it up.
My question...could the car have gone for 1500 miles with the old oil drained and no new oil added? We're talking pretty intense freeway driving here. Why didn't the oil light go on? Could the oil change place have done or neglected to do something that precipitated the demise of our Civic's engine? I'll update this post when I hear back from the garage.
