Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 - How To Install A/C Compressor
My wife and I have had a 2005 Prius for a little over a year now. When we bought it, the previous owner said the A/C system was new. Once the spring/summer hit, we realised that wasn't true- apparently the blower motor was replaced, but the compressor was bad (dealer confirmed). We just lived with it last summer, but I am wanting to replace it now before it warms up.
I am home mechanic- no professional, but I have done everything from engine rebuilds to engine swaps at my house before. There are very few jobs that my cars have needed that I haven't done myself. The Prius is one thing I haven't done much to, and am not completely familiar with. I looked at a diagram, and the compressor seems easy to access from below the car. I have ordered a service manual for the Prius, and will use that.
Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 Not Starting After Replacing 12 Volt Battery
My Prius has 150k miles on it. We didn't drive it for a few days and when we went to turn it on,it wouldn't work. We were able to jump start it a couple of times, however after that we ended up having to replace the battery. We purchased it brand new from toyota. Then, the car wouldn't do a thing (No sounds, no lights, other than the red amber power button and the flashing check engine light, which was not on before.) We ended up having two blown fuses and we replaced them today, one was for the battery.Now the lights are on, but the car still won't start. It will cost over $200 to have the car towed and I am really trying to avoid that right now. I don't know much at ALL about cars. but I'm trying.
View 5 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: 2005 Won't Start After Replacing Bad Cell In Main Battery Pack
I have two Prius's, a 2008 and a 2005. My 2005 with 129k miles on it is the one in question. Recently I got a check engine light with the code P0A80 and P3016. I purchased a pair of tested to be good cells from Ebay which finally arrived in the mail yesterday. Today I finally got around to installing it and everything was pretty self explanatory... One of 28 cells tested to have 6.24v in block six and all the others had between 7.98-8.00v all around. I went ahead and replaced the bad cell with the new one and put everything back together and now the car will not start.
Cliff notes: Replaced bad cell in main battery back due to CEL P0A80 and P3016.
Car will not start, only turns on...
Getting error message on the radio screen about the Park position is not correct and to park the car on a flat level ground with parking brakes and try again.
Have charged the 12v battery to make sure it has enough juice in it.
Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Fuse Blown While Replacing Hybrid Battery
I replaced the hybrid battery in my 2005 Prius today & when I disconnected the 12v battery the wrench arced & I assume that I blew a fuse. I have looked, but have not found anything. I hope I am missing something obvious.
View 5 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Brake / ABS And VSC Lights On After Replacing Spiral Cable
2005 Prius with 190,000 miles.
I was having intermittent problems with my cruise control but realized it would turn on and off if the wheel was turned 45 degrees. I replaced the spiral cable (with a Toyota OEM) and the cruise worked great! The only problem was that the VSC light was on. There was a fault for a steering wheel position sensor. I attempted to do a zero point calibration and now I have the red Brake, ((!)), ABS, and VSC lights on solid all the time.
I've unhooked the battery for hours several times, tried to clear the codes (no obd codes show up), and tired to clear the ABS fault by pressing the brakes 8 times in 4 seconds while in diagnositc mode and jumping 3 and 14 four times in 8 seconds.
Ford Super Duty (1999-2016) :: 2005 - Correct Tire Pressure - 75 Or 65 PSI?
I just bought a 05 F-250 156" wheel base crew cab 6.0 with LT305/70R17 Nitto Terra Grapplers. What will be the tire pressure. Manufacture label on truck says 75psi cold but the tire itself says 65psi max. I mostly drive without a load also.
View 2 RepliesPrius (2001-03) :: Setting TPS To Correct Position?
How to set TPS to the correct position? I removed it while cleaning the throttle body, and now I can't seem to get it positioned correctly. The engine keeps revving its self while in park. I read AllData's instruction about starting with a 15 degree rotation to the right and then adjusting it using a Toyota hand held meter (which I don't have).
View 2 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Correct Ratio Of Fuel Air?
My mpg has deteriorated severely (51-43 mpg). I am using Torque with a ELM 327. I measured the fuel air ratio below 10 almost all the time, both the calculated and measured. this seems a little rich. What the correct ratio should be?
View 4 RepliesPrius C :: Fuel Gauge Not Showing Correct Reading?
Driving on my original tank from dealer today from Upstate NY to NYC. On the way my C had 4 bars to begin then went to 3, then 2 after about 90 miles of traveling at avg of about 55mph. I watched the cruising distance go down to 1 but I still had 2 bars on my fuel gauge (and my crusing distance was conservative compared to my mpg reading the whole trip, which was hovering around 58mpg).
The gauge went from 2 bars to one flashing bar in about 1 minute. I pulled into a gas station about 2 miles ahead and put in about 5 gallons... this put the fuel gauge up to 3/4s or about 3 bars above the halfway mark. What gives? I know there are fuel gauge issues but I thought with two bars I would have had plenty of time before I needed to fill up on these roads with these mpgs.
Avalon 2005-12 :: 2013 V6 - Check Blind Spot Monitoring System Appeared / BSM Stopped
I have a 2013 Avalon V6 Limited.
On 5 or 6 occasions, during the 8 weeks I have owned it, a yellow warning light has appeared, together with a message on the Multifunction Display stating: "Check Blind Spot Monitoring System." While this is displayed, the BSM does not work. Turning the ignition off and then on again resolved the problem immediately each time, with one exception, when I had to do it twice. Pushing the On-Off button for the BSM on the left side of the dash did not resolve the problem.
Prius (Gen 3) :: Code P0A0D Appeared
I am a technician and my boss owns a couple of prius taxis.
One of them had the code to replace hybrid battery pack. After checking all the cells and they were all in spec the code came back every single day so he bought a new hybrid battery pack. After installing the new battery pack The car won't go into ready mode with the message check hybrid system.
The code that comes up is P0A0D about the service safety plug. It is plugged in properly pushed all the way to the right and so on. The 120 amp fuse inside of it is good I have tried everything I can think of.We had another 2010 in the shop I tried changing the service safety plug, engine ecu, hv ecu, all to no avail with the same problem.
Prius C :: Key Battery Low Message Appeared
I got this message on the information display when I turned off the car after an hour of drive. I'm guessing it refers to the key getting low on battery but why only after 2 months.
View 7 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: Error Code C1378 Appeared
I just bought a used 2008 Prius. I had my Prius inspected after buying it, and the error code C1378 appeared, which I have discerned refers to the Skid Control ECU.
There is apparently a recall for this part in 2010-2014 models, however as a 2008 I don't think I apply.
Prius (Gen 3) :: Car Won't Start, Lock Symbol Appeared
I just tried to start my Prius this morning and nothing happened except a quick flashing red indicator light which looks like a lock symbol. Not sure what's going on.
View 11 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Red Triangle With Message Appeared
I went to the dealership today with my '05 displaying a master light ( big red triangle) and "problem " posted on the screen with the green "hybrid system problem" box displaying.
The Prius guy had the car plugged into the computer for over 3 hours. It spat out a page and a half of codes, and then after a time distilled the codes to 4 things: a bad hybrid fan motor, the relay, a blower motor controller, and a bad aux battery. The problem is I replaced the aux battery a year ago. So it makes me doubt the entire diagnosis.
Prius (Gen 2) :: Codes Appeared / Cruise Control Is Engaged
The 12v battery is 3 1/2 years old.
I rebuilt the HV battery in May 2015. I replaced 3 modules and took the pack through 3 charge/discharge cycles using Hybrid Automotive grid charger and simple discharger. I also cleaned the cooling fan.
All was fine for a month or so. Then I got the trouble lights but the obdlink I had wouldn't show the codes. I noticed a decrease in mileage and a slight hesitation upon acceleration from a stop.
I finally got the mini vci and a win xp laptop to find the codes:
P3000
P0A82
C1310
After maybe a week or so, the ICE wouldn't start and, being busy, I parked it for a while. About a month later, I pulled codes:
P0AA6 with detail codes 526 and 613
P3000 with detail code 123
P0A82 with no detail codes but it indicates "hybrid battery pack cooling fan 1 performance/stuck off.
I connected the grid charger and the HV fan engaged, as it should. I cleared codes and took a drive, while monitoring with Techstream. I watched the fan modes climb to 6, during driving and idling, over about a half hour period. Not sure if this means anything, but I've read that people can hear the fan from the driver's seat when it's running at 3 or 4- I forget which. Well, at 3, or maybe 4, I couldn't hear it. Even standing at the rear door, with my ear against the vent. Though, there was ICE and parking lot noise to contend with. Once it got to 6, I could hear it easily.
Battery health, at that time: With fan at 6, temp of batt tb1 through tb3 was 51.6 c, 56.5 c, 50.4 c.
Battery blocks voltage ranged from 16.05 to 16.15. Internal resistance ranged from .024 to .026 ohms.
Out of necessity, I've been driving this car again, for months now. The lights came back and the codes were still P3000 with detail code 123, P0A82 with the addition of C1310. I don't see a detail code in the same place but there is a field that says "detailed freeze DTC 156". I assume this may be a detail or sub code. Nothing has been preventing me from starting the car. But months ago there had been 2 occasions when, after having driven several miles and parked for a short time, then taking the freeway home, the car would idle high going up an overpass. On these occasions, the MFD shows a low SOC with only one purple bar. The first time this happened, it took around 10 miles before the SOC would creep up. The second time, I had it on cruise control and, while ascending a grade, the car jerked violently and acted as if I were flooring and letting off the gas in quick succession, about 4 times. I disengaged cruise control and took hills more slowly. The high idle up the hills backed off as the battery SOC increased. This time the SOC started in increase within a few minutes, as I would expect normally. I imagine that the electric motor was turning off and on, when the car was jerking, due to a low SOC.
These symptoms cleared up in a few days, apart from the hesitation on accelerating from a stop, and I've been driving it ever since. A few weeks ago, I noticed the car had major difficulty accelerating. I'll floor it and it barely moves, taking several seconds longer than it should to get up to speed. The SOC is stuck at 1 purple bar. I got the car home and turned it off. When I turned it back on, the SOC increased very quickly, only once. I now can't replicate that. The SOC simply will not go above one bar.
Another odd thing. When I'm creeping down the road, at say, 25mph, and I let off the throttle, the car just keeps moving as if cruise control is engaged.
Prius (Gen 1) :: P3191 / P3101 Error Codes Appeared
2003 Prius. Situation as follows:
Malfunction Indicator Lamp lit on start-up during sub-freezing weather for failure to start (P3191 and P3101 codes loaded). Occurred twice (so far).
Dealer diagnosed as possible fuel pump problem, though fuel pressure nominal and held pressure after engine shut-off.
Independent mechanic (using EG011-03) diagnosed following:
Diagnosis codes: P3191 (engine does not start) and P3101 with information code 205.
Circuit opening relay was fine.
Fuel Pressure was normal (~45 psig) and held after engine shut off.
Coolant temperature - 9 deg C
Engine RPM - 1200
MG1 Torque value - 0
Installed ECU Part Number - 89661-47053, calibration # 14705301, 14705302
EG011-03 decision tree leads to replace Engine Control Module with newer part number.
Took back to dealer, who indicated still possible fuel pump problem (and reluctant to replace ECM).
Prius (Gen 2) :: Code P0A78 Appeared - Replaced Inverter
I have a 2004 prius that will not start. First let me tell you what we have replaced so far (within a week) inverter pump, thermostat, water pump, battery 12V(brand new from toyota) and the inverter and it seems to be stuck in drive, but we cannot get it started to figure that one out.Code was reading p0A78 and even after changing inverter it still is reading that code is there.
