Prius (2010-12) :: Traction Control Light Flashing After Hard Braking
I slammed on my brakes the other day because a car pulled out in front of me. When i let off the brakes i noticed the car did not move for a good 1-2 seconds and a traction control light was flashing. I didn't think much of it until i was sitting at a light and decided to see what happens if i press my brake pedals in hard again... the traction light turns on again and the car doesn't move when brakes are disengaged for a few seconds. Is this normal? It feels like my hill assist on the BMW. Why the traction light turns on? My car is a 2010 Prius III with 5k miles.

I have a 2010 Prius that I've owned for a little over 2 years. I know basically nothing about auto mechanics. When i purchased the Prius, I was told by the salesperson to use engine braking "B" as often as possible to extend the life of my brakes.
Although I don't live in a mountaineous region, I have found engine braking to be useful in the snow, in the occassional steep hill i come across, and also in my daily commute where travel is at 55 MPH with a stop light every half mile or so.
Prius (2010-12) :: Traction Is Lost On One Front Wheel When Braking
I don't see any mention of the role of the transaxle differential. Others have correctly pointed out that regenerative braking acts only on the front wheels, but it also important to note that the regenerative braking torque is transmitted from the transaxle to the wheels via differential gears.
Thus when braking traction is lost on one front wheel (due to a wet manhole cover, bump or whatever), braking torque is also lost on the other front wheel. The effect is a noticeable instant of "no braking" and takeover by the ABS. Or perhaps the driver takes over by pressing the brake pedal further and activating the hydraulic brakes (this should happen instinctively, and quickly since the driver’s foot is already on the brake pedal).
Prius (2010-12) :: How To Turn Off Traction Control
Is there a way to turn off Traction Control on a 2012 Prius? It's not useful when trying to break a path thru heavy wet snow. I've looked in the Owners Manual, but so far haven't found a description of deactivating Traction Control.

I bought a 3rd Gen Prius 2012, I found that the Traction Control is already disabled, (the light is on in the led panel in the dashboard) and I want to turn it on for safety, I live in region with regular temperature and it never snow. So how to turn it on again.

On Friday, the traction control light turned on (with no sound) and stayed on while driving, stopped and parked. I brought it to my local dealership to check and see what was wrong. I was informed that the steering angle sensor circuit went bad. I asked if the car could drive fine without the repair and was told it would be okay. I also asked if this error light could be turned off and was informed that it was impossible. I went home and parked. Sunday night, I noticed that none of the interior lights would work.

My 2011 Prius has the abs light and traction control light on. The car has sat 4 days I go and start it and the lights are on. Not blinking steady. I just filled the car Friday could it be the gas cap not tight?
View 10 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: ABS / Traction Control And Brake Indicator Lights
I had not driven the Prius in a few weeks, and even then, that was for less than five miles, and had the low tire pressure indicator come on late last week when the temperatures cooled down, which I fully expected given my opportunities with the Toyota Dealer properly inflating tires. We were away for another week and returned today and I decided to check the tires and add air, and in addition to the tire pressure indicator, the ABS, Traction Control, and Brake Indicator lights were on. As soon as I filled all the tires to the specified PSI, that indicator disappeared but the brake related ones all stayed on.

I am not sure if they are related or if they happened at the same time but my wife said her heater/ac fan wasn't working. So I figured it was a fuse, but after visually checking all the fuses and I mean all, none appear to be blown. After checking all the fuses I turned the car on, only to find out I put a couple fuses in the wrong locations and re-installed according to the diagram on the back of the cover. Turned car back on and heater fan as expected did not turn on. Then I noticed the Trac light on, not blinking or beeping just "on". After looking on the forums and web this means that it is turned off. If it is just off how do you turn it back on?

Started my 2010 Prius the other day and the traction control, brake light, abs light and a yellow Astrix light came on and wouldn't go off. The car drives and handles just fine, brakes feel normal. I have tried resetting the lights with a trick with a paper clip someone else posted, but it didn't work for me.

View 8 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Traction Control Lights Flashing In Sharp Left Turn
So four lanes, divided, with a left turn lane, five lanes at the intersection. I'm down ~15 mph, maximum turn speed and one car is just clearing intersection and and +100 yards from next approaching slug of traffic. Keeping the speed, I make the left turn confident no problem then halfway through turn:
feels like a soft tuck
traction light flashes
already to straighten out
everything normal
This is the second time I've seen this in a year. Pavement dry, 48 hours since last rain; ~8:00 AM so rush hour is on. Before doing some parking lot tests, any clue about how to replicate?
My dashcam SD card did not play.
Prius (2010-12) :: Traction Control Light Came On When Trying To Get Up Incline / Smell Like Tires Burning
I just drove my Prius through 8-10 inches of heavy wet snow. The car did amazingly well. At times my traction control light was on when trying to get up an incline until the car got going. Then when I got home I stopped in my driveway for the garage door to open and started into the garage. The car was stuck, but then the light came on and the car climbed the driveway in about 10-15 seconds and made it in the garage. I then noticed a smell like burning tires. Maybe it was the tires from spinning. I hope that I didn't hurt my transmission or another component. Does the Prius protect itself if it is stuck and the traction control light is on from overheating something? I think I recall that the 2nd generation Prius would not allow for wheel spin to protect the traction battery.
View 5 RepliesSubaru - Outback :: 2010 - Brake Warning / Traction Control / Cruise Control / Check Engine Light Came On?
My 2010 Subaru Outback recently surprised the hell out of me by simultaneously turning on the brake warning light, the traction control light, the check engine light and (just for a bonus!) disabled my cruise control while flashing the cruise control light. I pulled over, quickly surmising that all of those systems could not have failed at 70 MPH without instantaneous death to either me or the vehicle. Both apparently still being alive, I tried turning the car on an off to reset the lights. No go. Subaru was not going to miss this chance to get me to the dealership! (who I had avoided to this point!) As I was far away from home and the car being very healthy, it seemed, I decided to drive on. I proceeded to put a couple of hundred more miles on the car before I got back to town.
My car had 39,000 miles on it, 3,000 miles beyond the warranty end. I learned that I have an error code of P0171, "Fuel Trim Malfunction (Air/Fuel too lean)". So I guess I'm wondering about a few things...why would this sensor set off every light on my dashboard and disable my cruise control? Seems a bit overblown for running a bit lean. My gut tells me Subaru has a sensor/software problem they are not owning up to. I'm a big fan of conspiracy theories and this really smells like one...
Second, jeez, I'm only 3K miles over warranty, don't you think they'd cut me some slack. I mean I love my Subaru, or did anyway, until this happened. Now it's just another POS car that breaks for no apparent reason...
Prius (2010-12) :: Battery Charging While Going On Downhill Especially With Braking Mode / Cruise Control On?
Curiosity question. I've noticed that on a downhill of a couple miles, especially in "braking" mode or with the cruise control on, the motor/generator and engine are used to keep the speed down and the battery gets charged to the very top quite quickly. That's good!
On a really long downhill, will the motor/generator still be used for braking and the excess electricity discarded to keep from overcharging the battery?
Prius (Gen 3) :: Lunging While Braking With Weak Traction
As in lunge. I first noticed this about two months ago (I bought the car three months ago) when I was braking on straight, level ground, but it was raining and I was crossing railroad tracks while I was braking. Fortunately, no one was in front of me. The sensation wasn't merely a loss of braking traction (sliding), this felt like a momentary, power mode/full throttle thrust. Straight forward. At the time, I was clearly caught off guard, but the effect/sensation was quite momentary, almost as if someone had mildly rear-ended me.
Braking after that moment was normal. The effect didn't replicate itself again until recently when I was braking for a stoplight on a sh-tty concrete road where the sections have a slight tilt to them. This is exaggerated of course, but the sections are like this: ///////, meaning there is a 1/4 to 1" dropoff from one section to the next. there is one particularly pronounced dropoff close to the stoplight. The effect happened again and it is reproducible. Again, it is not merely the sensation of taking your foot off the brake, but one of a momentary punch of acceleration. No appreciable sound of higher engine revs.
Camry :: 2010 - Traction Control Light Comes On
My uncles car traction control light comes on when it feels like it. Its a 2010 with 6000miles 4cyl. Warranty is up in december. Can this problem be a sensor on the wheels? I will bring it in to have dealer check it. I just wanted a heads up of what it could be.
