Prius (2010-12) :: Loud Knocking And Shaking On Cold Start
We have had a few mornings (in garage) where it would seem to not really id say a knock but maybe a clicking sound and it would quit right away. This morning that did not happen so i shut the car off and checked oil it was low.
Got under the car and can not see any leaking no oil on ground. So i had a QT i put in and that seems to quiet it after a few seconds.
I called local TOY dealer and they said its common for 2010 to use some oil and not much they can do. I thought what is a little it was at the end of the dipstick.
They said they can only fill it up and then have me come back in 1400 miles and see how much is used.
Prius (Gen 2) :: Rumbling Sound When Starting Car In The Morning Before AM Commute
I have an 07 with 81.5K miles. Just a few weeks ago I've noticed a "rumbling" sound when starting the car in the morning before my AM commute. To me it sounds like an exhaust issue. This sound is becoming more frequent and now occurs most of the time while I drive. The volume has not increased, only frequency. The engine sounds ok, and no lights or indicators are showing.
MPG performance is down from 45-50MPG to about 40MPG but I think this may be because it's been extremely cold here lately and maybe the gasoline bladder has shrunk? Anyways, what this could be? If it's an exhaust issue could it require replacing the entire exhaust system because it's a hybrid (one mechanic friend I have said this might be the case)? Could it be something as simple as getting a new muffler?
Volvo :: Engine Began Shaking And Rumbling - Idle Went From High To Low
I have a 2001 Volvo S60. I just got in it to go to the store and I swear it is possessed! My engine immediately began shaking and rumbling the idle went from very high to dangerously low. I cut it off and cut it back on. There was no rumbling but now it is idling very high close to 3.5 rpm when it does settle after a while if i even touch the gas a little it shoots right back up. My emission error message is showing but i have had it looked at a few times and they can't find anything wrong with the emissions system. Recently my transmission message came on and stayed on for a week or so but went back off before I could have it looked at and it never drove any different even when the light was on

I own a b5.5 2.8l 30v v6. Today I went to get in the car and on start up for the first time in 3 days it started shaking a lot and making a small rumbling noise, sort of like a cylinder misfire. This isn't the first time its happened. I tried searching this up and everything seems to point toward the fuel injectors. In this past 6 months my average mpg has dropped from about 20 to 16.
I am guessing it is this, but someone also said it might be a cylinder misfire. What exactly is causing this? Also in the 1 year of owning it, it makes sort of a diesel sounding noise in the engine. Some people have told me it might just be the valves that need to be adjusted but I have no clue.
Prius (Gen 3) :: Engine Was Knocking And Shaking After Starting
After starting my Prius the engine was knocking and shaking. After running the engine for 30 - 45 seconds it operated normally. The car is always parked in our garage and the outside temperature was approx 32 degrees or a few colder. I have 30750 miles on the car.

However, after that happens it seems to run and drive just fine. At first it didn't throw any codes or anything but now Check engine light on with 3 codes.

I just purchased my new Elantra 2 weeks ago. A few days later, just after I started it first thing in the morning, it began making a loud flapping noise (seemed to be coming from under the hood). When I start my car in HV mode (not enough juice to drive in EV mode), I've noticed this noise sounding like the motor is starting. The noise lasts about 15 seconds and quiets down. When the noise is ongoing, the EV and ECO sign on the instrument panel would only show a silhouette (it doesn't light up to show the EV or ECO). Once it quiets down, the "EV" sign lights up.
I dont think this has to do with warming up the car because it's 85F outside where it's parked.
Avalon 2005-12 :: Humming / Rumbling Or Growling Noise Starting At About 25mph+
Wife complained about the noise coming from the front. She said it sounds like an engine noise. I took her car for a few days noticed the noise starting at about 25mph+ (near the driver side). Tried to put the engine in N and rev it, while driving, pretty such it is not the engine.
I do notice the noise is getting a bit louder today compared to last week...Did some google search and "it might" be the bearing. Just wonder what to do next. My wife doesn't want to drive it at this time....so she took my truck today
Elantra HD (2006-10) :: Extremely Loud Rumbling Sound At Any Speed
I have a 2010 Elantra Touring, manual transmission. At about 30,000 miles it developed an odd feature which continues through the present time with just under 50,000 miles. At any speed and on any road from time to time I suddenly get a loud interior noise like driving right next to a train running on a track. There is no vibration, just a very loud rumbling sound drowning out the radio. Goes away after a few minutes, does not recur on the same piece of road, same temperature, or same time of day. When it first occurred the dealer inspected it and though they could not hear it they divined that the aftermarket cruise control mounting bracket had become loose and was vibrating. They tightened it and the sound went away for a year but is now back louder than ever. I checked the bracket and it is tight and the dealer can find nothing loose. The bumper to bumper warranty is about to expire. I am thinking a crack in a steel bearing surface or a bad weld causing a vibration running through the body. Again I feel no actual vibration through the steering wheel.

About a month ago my Touareg started making loud rumbling noises at highway speeds. It sounds and feels (it makes the whole truck vibrate) like you're driving on the "wake me up bumps" that are on the shoulder. Some times it last for 30 seconds and other times it goes on for the whole trip. It's driving me crazy; however the dealer can't reproduce the problem so they think I'm crazy. It doesn't do it all the time, however, the only common symptom is it happens at speeds above 65 mph. It has happened when it the car was cold and hot, cruise on and off and variable highway speeds. The transmission was replaced right after I received the car due to a malfunction, so the dealer doesn't think this could be a second faulty transmission.

I have a 2006 Subaru Outback. When I start it, it makes a constant rather loud rumbling noise that seems to be coming from the rear of the car. I can feel a little vibration through the steering wheel, but when I put the car in neutral the noise/vibration goes away.

1987 Acura Integra Automatic, 160k I have been noticing - mostly for every start (there are a few in between that did not have that sound).
When starting, a loud sound (some what unbearable) heard and was hesitant and then the engine starts. Once started it runs fine. It is not the usual sound that the ignition makes when going bad.
What seems to be the issue? Right after I drained and filled AT fluid, it heard the first time. I have been doing AT fluid since nearly 10yrs ago with Honda fluid. I only did drain and fill and it went smoothly. In 2007, the tranny was replaced. After starting, the car runs smoothly - it is only when starting or just before engine try to start. Batt and alternator tests fine.
It hardly did it today - I might have once heard a girding sound just before starting.
Prius (2010-12) :: Slight Front End Shaking At 63 - 69 Mph?
From day one my 2012 Prius 3 has had a shake that starts at 63mph and goes away at 69mph. Sometimes it's worse then others. I can feel it in the steering wheel and the floor broards. I took it back to the dealer and they said they felt it but couldn't find anything wrong. They actually put new wheels and tires on it! It seemed alright for while but I noticed it again the other day, I don't drive that speed that often. I'm either below or above it but the other day I got caught in traffic doing 65 and noticed it right away. I made a new appt this next week at the dealer again. It's not real bad just more annoying then anything. I searched on here but couldn't find anything.

My 2010 Prius engine shakes/vibrates when the engine is showing between 50-75 MPG on the gauge/meter on the dashboard. There is no vibration when coasting (100 MPG on the gauge/meter on dashboard) or when I am accelerating pretty modestly. Only when accelerating very softly. It started a month or so after I had my spark plugs replaced at 133K miles last June 2015. It has gotten progressively worse. It is especially noticeable once the engine is warm or the outside temperature is warm. During the winter months the vibration was there slightly, but not nearly as noticeable as it is becoming now that warmer weather is here.

The past week I drove the 1800miles. This afternoon I went out, pushed power button, get out and clean windshield off and ICE turns on with this clunk clunk noise, shook the car like a sob too. Checked oil and it showed a clear metallic gray/Black tint with end the light tan oil.
