Passat (B6) :: Headlight Bulb Socket Partially Melted
I was changing standard halogen headlight bulbs last night and as I was getting the drivers side bulb out the metal part came off with the bulb and I noticed the black plastic part of the socket was partially melted. Sketchy. Far as I know these bulbs have never been changed I bought the car w 3500 miles back in 06. Is there anything I should do besides replacing the melted socket? A part # would be awesome too...

Unfortunately my HID bulb wasn't secure in the headlight assembly and melted the part that holds the bulb in place in the headlight assembly.
My question is if that part that retains the bulb is replaceable or I will need to replace the whole head light assembly? ( The wire connector is fine.)
If the part is replaceable, What is the name or part #...
Golf V R32 :: Passenger Headlight Bulb Melted Into Igniter - Blast Control Defective?
So a couple weeks ago my passenger headlight started flickering. After a couple days the bulb was out. I bought a new bulb and opened up the headlight to install and found the bulb melted into the igniter. Ok, bought a new igniter. Installed everything. And still nothing. Checked the fuses and wires, nothing loose. Headlight still didn't turn on. Went to my mechanic and he said it's the ballast. I buy a new ballast and he just called and said the ballast I bought was defective. The light was turning on, but no high beam.
Does the ballast control the high beam? If it's not the ballast, what could be the problem?

View 1 RepliesPrius (2010-12) :: Headlight Low Beam Bulb Replacement
How to replace low beam bulbs? all info i found was talk about whether they were covered under warranty or not? I got extended maintenance warranty to 100k miles, but bulbs, I don't think so. I just noticed today that both were out on low beam, high beam are fine. Should I take car to dealer? or is this something I can do myself?

I have seen many mods to headlights in the 2012 Prius, many of them have upgraded to HIDS and what not. My question is the little bulb in the top of the headlight housing i see is like a blue or LED color, yet i cannot find anything about them anywhere. Love the look and would match my HID kit once i get installed this weekend......

View 4 RepliesJeep - Wrangler :: Cable Connector On Negative Battery Pole Is Partially Melted
Over the past year or so I have noticed that when I press the clutch on my 1985 CJ-7 258 that the headlights would get brighter. This happens when driving or just sitting at an idle. This happens only after you press the clutch enough to take up the usual 1/2-1 inch of play in the clutch pedal. When you release the pedal, the lights dim slightly. Another thing that may be related---over the past few months, it has been a bit sluggish to start until, finally, it wouldn't start at all. I looked at the battery and the cable connector on the negative battery pole is partially melted and ran down onto the top of the battery. What the problem might be? I'd hate to get a new battery and just have the same thing happen again.

About a month ago i installed the rear fog in my 06 TDI. I used all the proper stuff ( VW wire, 1156 bulb)
Well yesterday i finally got to use it while driving on the interstate during the reminisce of tropical storm Barry. well all remain good until i stopped off at the mall with my wife, got back in the truck and proceed back home when MFI prompts me to check lights and little icon lights up... well today i check it and its the rear fog. The bulb had melted into the red lens and exploded.
Camry :: Melted Backshell That Holds Low Beam Light Bulb
I recently melted (due to my own ignorance) the backshell that holds the low beam light bulb in place. I can see that the backshell is removeable since there's it looks like there's 3 screws that hold it in place. The headlight would have to be baked apart, but I already know how to do that. My question is: is there anywhere that sells this part, or does the housing assembly have to be bought whole? I was also looking at the spyder lights that claim they are projectors, but I'm wondering how they compare to regular OEM output. This is for a hybrid btw

View 4 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: 2007 Drivers Side Headlight Going Out - Already Replaced Bulb And Ballast
So I started having the issue with my drivers side headlight going out and saw the many threads regarding issues with the bulbs and ballast.
I started out purchasing a new bulb, from ebay TOYOTA PRIUS GENIUNE PART PHILIPS D4R 42406 XENON HID HEADLIGHT LIGHT LAMP OEM
Came in "Toyota" box. Got the bulb in and still had issues with the light turning off... so then I bought the after market ballast and replaced it yesterday. Light still going off.... What to check? Just read the article regarding bulbs, going to pull out the one I just got and have a better look at it.... Not all HID Bulbs are created equal.
Prius (Gen 2) :: 2004 - HID Headlight Intermittently Fails To Start Even After Bulb Replacement
Around 100k miles, my 2004 prius started failing to light the right headlight. It only happened every now and then, perhaps 5-10% of the time. It seems to fail more often in cold weather. I can always get it to light by turning headlights off and on a 2-4 times.
That seemed to work, but I still get intermittent failures where the right HID doesn't start sometimes. The left always works reliably.
Obviously replacing the ballast should solve this, but that is expensive and I wonder if perhaps there is some connection that has developed a high resistance that could be solved by reseating.
Prius (2004-09) :: While Clipping New Bulb Lost Headlight Retention Clip
I tried to replace my driver side burnt-out bulb today. While I was trying to clip in the new bulb, the metal clip somehow came loose and dropped down into the car. After poking around for an hour, I can't find it. I put back the assembly (without a bulb) and am pondering my next moves. Two big questions:
Is there anywhere I can get a replacement headlight retention clip? Is it safe to drive around without a bulb in one side? Or should I put in the old (or new) bulb and let it jostle around without the clip.
Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 - Replacement Of Passenger Side Headlight Bulb?
I just replaced (or almost replaced) the bulb on the passenger side of my 2008 prius. It is a HID bulb. I got the old one out, the new one in and connected and verified it is working. Now trying to get the cover back on that provides the weather proofing and unless im wrong... the braided wire that connects to the back of the bulb is in the way. It looks like it has to go thru the opening that the cover is supposed to seal... Imagine a rope hanging over the edge of a bucket you are trying to put a cover on... Am i wrong here? did I miss something?
