Lexus GX 2004-09 :: No Acceleration After Traction Control Engages
I've noticed when driving our 06 GX this winter, that after the traction control engages on ice for example, it leaves the car with about 20% of it's normal power when you hit the gas, like it acts as a fuel shut off or something. It's been potentially dangerous if you aren't ready for it.
We have a had a lot of ice in upper Illinois this winter and I've been blind sided by what happens a few times. The worst is trying to make a left hand turn from an icy street. A lot of our side streets don't get the attention from salt trucks like the main roads do. For example, when making a turn off of an Icy side street, onto a street that has no ice. Wheels slip a bit initially, you hear the Trac kick in, then gimpy mode. After making it off the ice, the car has almost no power to accelerate, even after it's on dry pavement for as long as 10 second or so. Really dangerous when turning into a busy highway. The car just won't go. Then all of a sudden, boom and it's off again like normal. I would think that things should go back to normal on dry pavement pretty quick but the delay is pretty long.
Is this normal? Is there any way to disable the traction control in this situation? It's like the truck shuts the fuel off ( I know some Trac systems work this way). I'm definitely not one that hammers on the gas either, as soon as the tires sense a little slip it seems to go into this gimpy mode. Otherwise, everything else functions as normal.
Prius (2004-09) :: Rough Acceleration / Traction Control Light Came On Then Off
Just bought a 2004 with 240000 on it. Yesterday it started accelerating roughly. Today did the same and the traction control light came on and off several times. And just half hour ago I drove it about 10 minutes in town and the check engine light came on and stayed on.

I have a 2007 Prius and it will be my first car once I get my license. It has a bad traction control computer and is stuck in limp mode. View 1 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Tire Size Causing Traction Control To Improperly Engage?
I've recently started to have issues where when I get up over 55/60 mph the traction control will engage and limit the acceleration of my 2009 prius. I took the car into my local Toyota dealership and they claim it is because of the size tire I have.
I recently purchased a set of Hankook Optimo H727 replacement tires. After having done my research (mostly on these forums) I decided to go with the P195/60R15 tire size. Now I have several reasons to believe that the dealership has misdiagnosed the issue:
1. There are loads of people on this site who have installed 195 size tires (and larger) without issue as far as I can tell.
2. The issue did not begin immediately after installing the new tires, but rather a couple months later.
3. My brother installed the same exact tires on his 2005 Prius and does a lot more freeway driving than I do and has not had an issue.
4. My understanding from reading here is that in some other countries Priuses come with 195 size tires stock.
Prius (2004-09) :: Traction Control Light Blinking And Beeping Out Of Dash Area When It Rains
After I had the transaxle replaced in my 2008 I was driving on the interstate and the traction control light started blinking and a beeping came out of the dash area. A fast beep-beep-beep-beep-beep... for about a minute then stopped. I took it back to the dealer and they said it didn't throw any code plus "that shouldn't have anything to do with the transaxle".
Everything was fine until a few days ago it rained and it did it again three times, only at highway speeds, stopping after I got under 37 mph. Is something getting wet that shouldn't be? It doesn't slow the car down or anything like a real slipping situation would.

I am a new buyer' bought my prius 2008 about a week ago. the is something i cant understand, when a the engine runs at idle speed, the fuel consumption monitor shows 99.9 km/liter ! ! ! and it's also calculated at the average... is it something i should worry about ?
View 6 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Ticking Noise At High Speed
I've got an '04 Pkg IX with about 68k miles on it.
I've noticed that at speeds of greater than 60mph there is a distinct ticking noise (like the sound a bicycle makes when you turn the wheel "tick tick tick"). The noise is coming from the front end, sounds like near the passenger area.
The minute you drop down to speeds of around 50 or less it goes away.
I'm probably going to have to take it in to the dealer since I've already had an indy look at it.
Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Radiator Fan Does Not Go Into High Speed
How the radiator fan goes into high speed? My 2006 Prius A/C works great as long as I am moving. But when stopped in traffic or at a light, the radiator fan does not go into high speed. So the A/C shuts off until I can get cool air back through the condenser.
I replaced the two fan relays, and when I do the fans run into high speed for a moment, then back to slow speed. Is there a temperature sending unit in the Prius I can replace?
Prius (2004-09) :: 2006 - A/C Blower Speed Slows Down When Set To High After Running For A While?
I have a 2006 Prius and lately, the fan will stop blowing hard on long drives on hot days when the fan is set to High. This happened on a 3 hour trip on the interstate and again when I was driving some back road for about 2 hours. The first time, I noticed the cabin temp was getting hotter so I went to switch the fan speed higher and noticed it was already on high. It was not set to Auto.
When I got home, I let the car cool down for about 30 minutes and when I turned on the car, the AC was blowing full speed and was getting cold like normal. When the fan speed slowed down on its own on the interstate, it was probably blowing at a speed similar to what the fan would normally blow if set to the middle position or maybe even below that. Why the fan would slow down on its own when set on high.
I also just checked the temperature coming from the vent after running the AC on LO temp for about 10 minutes. It was reading 50 degrees with a digital meat thermometer and 46 degrees with an infrared thermometer. So, when the car is cool, the AC seems to be working fine. Just wondering about the fan speed and the fact that the car gets really warm when it slows down on its own.
Ford - Mountaineer :: 2006 - ABS AND Traction Control Lights Work In Low Traction Conditions
I need to troubleshoot a problem with the ABS & Traction control lights on a 2006 Mountaineer Premium with 126,000 miles. During the year that I have owned the vehicle this problem has occurred every time it is driven on a long trip. The previous owner never drove on longer trips so has no experience with this problem.
When you drive the vehicle around town and on shorter trips (less than an hour) there are no indications of problems. The ABS and Traction control lights come on as part of the start-up check cycle and go off. The ABS and Traction control work in low traction conditions and the lights function correctly when either one is activated.
The unusual behavior occurs on trips longer than an hour. Typically after about 1 1/2 hours at highway speed both the ABS and Traction control lights come on as well as the Wrench symbol in the message panel. It you hit "Reset" the Wrench symbol goes away but the ABS and Traction control lights stay on. The brakes work normally. I do not know if the ABS and Traction Control will work. I have never been in a low traction condition when the lights are on.
Both lights stay on until you stop the vehicle and turn off the ignition. When you restart the vehicle the ABS light is on but not the Traction Control light. When you start to drive the vehicle the ABS light goes out immediately.
After about 1/2 hour of driving both lights come on and the Wrench symbol displays in the message panel. Whenever you stop the vehicle and restart during the trip the cycle repeats. The day after you finish the long trip everything is normal for driving around town and on short trips.
Prius V :: No Way To Disable Traction Control?

Prius (Gen 3) :: Brake And Traction Control Lights Went Off While Driving
2010 Prius 98,000 miles - No Accidents
I was driving on the freeway cruising about 65-70mph.. Not using the brake at all. All the sudden the car starts beeping loudly with the Brake light going off, traction control light going off, and the ((!)) light as well. So I wanted to pull over to the side and realized my brakes were not working . It was the same as if you're trying to brake the car when the car is turned off. I slowly pulled off the freeway. Tried to reset the ECU, battery, everything, thinking at the traction control is just going crazy.
Prius C :: Disable Traction Control For Winter Situations?
Does traction control can be disabled on the C? I will be driving this car through the New England winter/ and just wanted to prepare myself for the worst possible scenario (ie not being able to make it up a slippery inclined road). I will be getting a set of winter tires which should work with the tire slip but doubt that will save me in all situations. I also was wondering how aggressive the traction control is compared to a GEN II or GEN III Prius. I was reading that the GEN III allowed more wheel slip compared to the GEN II which made it more drivable in the winter.
How to disable the stability/traction control.
These steps must be completed within 60 seconds.
Step 1: Set the ignition switch to ON, not READY. To do this press the power button two times, without pressing the brake pedal.
Step 2: While the transmission is still in park (P), fully press the gas pedal two times.
Step 3: Apply the parking brake to ensure that the vehicle will not move during this step. Put the transmission in neutral (N) and fully press the gas pedal two times.
Step 4: Put the transmission back in park (P) and fully press the gas pedal two times. The car will display "!Car!" in the upper left corner of the LCD screen.
