Prius (2004-09) :: A/C Compressor Out And ABS Actuator Failing After Hybrid Battery Replacement
A few weeks ago, I received the triangle light in my 2007 Prius with 125k miles on it. When I took it to the dealer, they said that the hybrid battery needed to be replaced. A new battery was ordered & installed by the dealer, which took a couple weeks as the battery wasn't in stock. When I picked up the Prius this week, within driving it a couple miles, it was apparent the A/C wasn't working. I took it right back to the dealer who said they'd look into it. When the Service sales guy started it again, it made a very strange noise as well, which it never did before. The dealer has come back and said that not only has the A/C Compressor out but the ABS actuator is also failing. They are saying this has nothing to do with the battery replacement but both these items were working fine before having the battery replaced
View 1 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: New Hybrid Battery - Red Triangle Pop Up Intermittently
I have a 2007 Prius with 107k miles. Last July it had a minor drivers side front end collision. Last November it had the hybrid battery replaced. I believe all this is unrelated just putting it out there for information.
I am currently having the red triangle pop up intermittently. When it does a "problem" message will display on the MFD. This seems to occur most often after a long downhill or when the Energy display is showing the hybrid battery is nearly full.
The hybrid battery seems to be functioning normal and the car is driving normal and has expected fuel economy. I do have a headlight that cuts out occasionally but no other noticeable electrical problems. I do not have a diagnostic device to get the codes.
Prius (2004-09) :: 2007 - Triangle Of Death / Hybrid Battery Failure
I have an 07 Prius which I bought used in 2011 and which has been fine (except for some A/C work last year) but got the 'triangle of death' this morning and having towed it to my regular shop, they tell me the code (they couldn't give me the number) simply said 'replace hybrid battery'... the car has 102,605 on the clock.

I have a 2007 toyota prius. The car drives, but pulsates. The Check engine light and triangle of death are on. Diagnostic test says "replace hybrid battery pack", but wouldn't the car not even start if the bat pack were dead? What it could be? perhaps a bad cell or two? a bad ecu?
View 19 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2007 - Red Triangle Shows Up - Hybrid Battery Cells Overheats?
I have a 2007 Prius and the red triangle showed up. It has less than 50,000 miles. I noticed that almost right after I start it up the hybrid battery fan kicks on. This leads me to believe that maybe one or more cells in the hybrid battery are overheating due to charging problems. Is there a way I can check this out without going to the dealer?
View 3 RepliesPrius (2001-03) :: Red Triangle After Hybrid Battery Replacement
well I saw one other thread on this topic but no resolution. I replaced the hybrid battery like the codes told me too on my 2003 prius and it now drives great but as soon as it start it shows a problem and the red triangle stays on. No check engine light, no codes, no driving issues just a red triangle. How to diagnose a red triangle when there are no codes.

Halogen Headlights keep failing on my 2007 Prius Hybrid. I'm starting a file on this because my headlights fail waaaaay too often. I first bought replacements from O'Rileys (don't know the brand) and one failed after only 3 months. . . they would not replace the bulb for free so I did buy one more bulb there. The next time I purchased two Philips bulbs at another parts store. The last ones I bought were from Napa Auto parts and I have to replace one of those. I am wishing I had kept better records because there have been more burned out low beam headlamps. . .never use the brights.

I replaced my hybrid battery of my NHW10 a year ago. now recently it shows the warning triangle. Once it went off after a long drive but now its permanent. is there a way to Diagnose what is the cause of this? If its a Hybrid battery issue, will it go off if i replace the bad cells?
View 3 RepliesToyota - Camry :: 2008 - Hybrid Battery Seems To Be Failing
This car was bought new 2008. All is well w/ everything. It's a joy to drive. However, we were told last week, that since the car is 8 years old (or soon to be), we should worry about the hybrid battery failing and should consider a new car. So, that's the question. Repair or replace?
View 10 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2007 With 45K Miles - Failing HV Battery?
The battery gauge on my 2007 seems to be dropping much faster than it used to. I can back out of my driveway with full green, and be down to purple in two miles of <45MPH driving. It also seems to recharge faster, as if the 'window' of usable charge has become much narrower.
I took it in for the 45K service, and asked the dealer to investigate. The tech wrote that everything is fine, and that this behavior is normal because "this is deep cycle battery".
Two questions: If the main battery fails completely, will the car still be driveable or will I be stranded at that point?
The little 12V battery is still the original that came with the car. Could it cause the above symptoms?

I have a 2005 Prius with 140,000 km (90,000 miles). The car was dented during hail and so it spent one month in the bodyshop. The damage was entirely cosmetic and the car ran perfectly when I dropped it off.
View 12 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: Red Triangle, Dash Lights And Hybrid System Icon On MFD
I have been having some hybrid battery issues. My prius is a 2006 with 198,000 miles. The original battery was replaced at around 120,000 with a junkyard battery. About a year later that battery gave up the ghost and I decided to rebuild that battery. So far that has worked quite well until recently.
My troubles started a couple weeks ago when I got the Red triangle and all the dash lights and the hybrid system icon on the MFD. Naturally I thought it was the battery again. Took it out and checked the voltages of the modules. All the modules where within tolerances. I grabbed a OBDII scanner and checked the code. It was telling me that the Hybrid current sensor was bad. I changed that out with the wiring harness from the old battery.
That lasted for a few days before the red triangle came back. I checked the code and it was indicating one of the blocks was bad. I think P3019. So I took the battery back out and replaced that block with other modules. Almost instantaneously the red triangle came back with two more bad blocks. I think it was P3012 and P3022. So I took the battery out once more and tested all the voltages of all the modules. Everything was 7.86-7.9v. So I decided to start the rebalance of the existing modules in hopes to find some bad modules.
I also bought a new 12v battery and installed that. I got everything back together and took it for a road test. It took about 30 mins before the triangle came back. I grabbed the codes and it was still indicating bad blocks. P3011 and P3018. I am a little at a loss.
Prius (2004-09) :: Loss Of Power / Red Triangle And Hybrid System Warning
During a highway trip three months ago, my 2004 Prius suddenly lost engine power, the red triangle Master Warning light came on accompanied by a warning sound, and then the Hybrid System Warning sign appeared on the Multifunction Display. I pulled off to the side of the road and stopped. I turned the car off and then tried turning it on again. Engine power was restored although the warning lights remained. We took a chance and carried on with our trip. The same sequence of events reoccurred about 10 times on our 1,300 km journey. I took the car to a Toyota dealer where they found a C2318 DTC. They checked the battery and the HEV fuse but could not locate the problem.
We returned home and on the way the same thing happened a few more times. My service manual noted that the description for C2318 is Low Voltage Error (Power Supply Malfunction) and the trouble areas are HEV fuse, IGCT relay, Wire harness or connector, or Auxiliary battery. Since the car was nearly 7 years old I thought I had nothing to lose by replacing the battery, which I did. However, on a short 150 km trip last week the problem appeared again, once while approaching our destination and once when we were almost home. There seems to be a pattern in that the problem appears every 150 km or so of highway driving. It has never done it while driving in the city.
Prius (2004-09) :: Hybrid System Warning And Triangle Of Death Light On
A few days ago I was driving my 2005 Prius aggressively up a mountain road and all at once the hybrid system warning light, the triangle with the exclamation point, and the regenerative brake system warning lights came on.
After about 2 minutes parked, I restarted the car and the regenerative brake system warning light went off, but the other two were still on. I still drove it twenty miles home, over another substantial mountain gap (about 1000 ft up and another 1500 down), without any problems.
I checked the voltage of the 12v battery, which seemed to be on the low end, but OK. (I think the lowest reading was 11.9). There seemed also to be some turbulence in the inverter coolant reservoir.
I brought it into the electronic vehicle specialist in town here today, who pulled my codes and said that the hybrid battery was dead.
Prius (2004-09) :: Check Engine / Triangle And Hybrid Warning Light Came On
Possible hybrid battery failure in my 2004 Prius (96K miles).
Sunday before last, the check engine light, warning triangle, and hybrid warning light came on when I started my car at the grocery store.
Because I was close to home, I drove home and the car functioned completely normally. The next morning, when I started the car, the same warning lights appeared. However, when I tried starting my car with the headlights off (I always leave them on), no warning lights appeared.
I took my car to an independent mechanic. This is their written report:
"Found multiple check engine codes, P3000, sub code 123, V0100 sub code 211/330. These codes are set when high voltage control detects a malfunction in battery pack/ECU assembly. To check battery pack we took vehicle out on a test drive while monitoring the cells in the battery pack. Found that they are all weak and drop fast when battery is put under a load. Code C2318 is a low voltage error/power supply malfunction code with the auxiliary battery. The voltage spec for setting the code is 9.3 volts, this battery is less than 9.2 volts."
In conversation, the mechanic also told me there was significant voltage variation across the cells in the hybrid battery.
I then took my car to the dealer to try to confirm this analysis. They were unable to read any codes because the independent shop apparently cleared them. The dealer was unable/unwilling to do more than read the codes to diagnose the problem. (Indeed, they seemed surprised that the independent mechanic could monitor the cells in the pack.) All they did was to drive the car around some more to see if the check engine light would come on. It did not.
The car has been driven 80 miles since the warning lights last appeared and appears to be behaving normally. From your perspective, does the report from the independent mechanic make sense and is it believable? And is their test under load definitive of a hybrid battery problem? Could the results be affected by the low auxiliary battery? Also, if I do have a hybrid battery problem, what are the chances of being suddenly thrown into limp mode while driving it?
Prius (2004-09) :: Red Triangle / Yellow Circled Exclamation - Hybrid System Failure
My wife was driving our 2009 prius this morning. she said the red triangle, this other yellow circled, light with an ! came on plus in the display window the car icon with the ! came on. Manual states that this is a hybrid system failure.
On very cold mornings the car smells very hot for a period of time. She said this happened again.
I tried to do a reset (turning it off and on atleast 4 times) did not work. So I had it towed to a dealer tonight and I started it again and this time very hot smelling and a whole lot more lights were on, ( brakes lights, almost all of the lights I would say.)
Prius (2004-09) :: 2007 - Red Triangle / Battery Low
I had my Prius check out and gave me these trouble codes couples battery's low he has a red triangle ....
P0A78
P3000
P0A80
P03014
P0315
The battery's rating 13.5 volts. Will always trouble codes go away after replacing the battery I added inverter to it because it was it was dying after 50 miles per hour then it slowed down??
Prius (2004-09) :: Still Red Triangle After Plugging Battery Right?
I recently cleaned all of the corrosion off the copper bus bars on my traction battery. When I got everything put back together I went to start the prius up and got the red triangle. I then remembered that I forgot to plug the master orange switch back in. After doing so I still had the red triangle so I turned the car on and off a couple times and it went away. Is this normal behavior from forgetting to put the master switch back in an attempting to turn the prius on?
