Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 Won't Go Into On Mode
I own a 2008 Prius. Yesterday, for the first time, the car would not go into On mode. Here are the steps I followed:
1. Confirm the car is in park.
2. Press the brake pedal.
3. Press the Power switch.
The amber light on the Power switch came on for a minute and then turned off. The instrumental panel remained dark.
The green light on the Park button came on. The audio and touch screen worked, as well as the power windows and power door locks. And, I was able to drive the car in reverse and to drive forward. I only drove a few feet back and forth on our driveway.
Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 Started To Stall Out
My Prius has started stalling out. I had the codes read a couplt days ago..needs plugs or gas cap gaskets. I disconnected the ground cable to clear codes instead of going to dealer and being charged to clear check engine light. After doing this the car has stalled out twice. The first time I tried jumping it didn't work until I disconnected and reconnected the ground cable, it started after about 5 minutes of being hooked up to my other car.
Took it for a drive to charge it further after about 15 miles everything was working fine, the hybrid monitor was showing good charging. Then all of a sudden the triangle light comes on and all the other stuff, check engine etc. Takes a few more miles to stall out. I did the same thing with the battery as before leaving it disconnected for about 5 minutes. Reconnected and it starts up and ran fine to home. ?? Did trying to clear the codes the first time cause these problems???
Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 - Microseconds Of Hesitation On 50 - 60 Mph
I am in the process of test driving a 2008 Prius that has 82000 miles on it. The car drove great. I am hooked.
I did notice something that I was unsure about. I may sound kooky but let me explain.
On was going around 50 - 60 mph and I sensed what felt like a few microseconds of hesitation. The car itself did not hesitate (kooky) no jolt or jerking, but I would swear I felt/noticed something. Is this the hybrid switching or an issue to be wary of? I basically wanted to see if it is something normal that I just haven't experienced yet since I have alway driven a traditional auto.
Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 - Shakes While Accelerating
I have 2008 Prius with 80K and I will try my best to give all the information that I can. The past few days during about 10-15 MPH driving, my car started to shake a little bit when I try to accelerate. It doesn't want to go no more than 5-10 MPH and I feel like I was driving on the small bumps. It went away after 10 seconds. Again, I can't duplicate the issue. It happend only twice.
Could this be related to 12 V battery issue, tires issues, transmission, fuel injection, spark plugs?
Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 - Series Of Lights Came On?
I am a proud owner of a 2008 Prius with 117,000 miles on it. actually my daughter has driven the car almost exclusively except for the first six months. Anyway, during her travels today a series of lights came on including the Malfunction light, engine light and on the screen the hybrid trouble light (the icon of a car with an explamation point in it). I took the car to advanced auto and had the codes read and they were 1. P3193 Fuel Run Out CURRENT, 2. P0A93 Inverter A cooling System performance PENDING and 3. C1241 Low batterry positive voltage or Abnormally high batterry positive voltage. I have been reading through the forum and I am a little nervous with the inverter code and wonder what is the differrence between it being a pending code as oppossed to a current code. I am also curious if the C1241 is a engine battery code and if a bad battery would/could make the other codes. I guess I am asking if I might get lucky and just need a new engine battery? and of course if the Inverter code means anything what kind of charge am I looking at for repair?

I have an 08 smart key Prius. I hit a deer in November on front passenger side. While in the shop the battery died and had to be replaced.
Since my panic alarm would go off at weird times. I checked the aux 12v battery and it was fine.
After a couple of weeks it stopped. It started again last week and I noticed the little red light on my fob was blinking.
I replaced the fob battery and now the smart key function and the buttons will not unlock the door.
Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 - Doors Not Responding To Key Fob
3 days ago I went to open car ( 2008 gen II ) with keyfob - got red led on fob when pressing door open but no indicator lights flash or door servo click, also same with spare keyfob ( both keyfobs have good batteries ) - so I manually tried all the doors to check if one had been left partially closed as I know this will cause a non response from the keyfob, then I used the manual key to open driver door which it did ( servo functioned properly but when opening the door the alarm went off so had to put keyfob in ignition/press start & only after several seconds did the car shut report ready mode. This was a bit emabarrising as there was a film crew next door in the middle of a shoot ( cringe mode - oops !! as I sneakily drove past them in stealth mode...well nearly ! ) . This has not happened again so far.
Anyway cant find any posts here with exact same issue only issues pertaining to the 12v aux battery which I personally replaced 3 months ago with a standard lead acid as the old one was reporting 9.7v along with the intermittent red triangle hybrid system dashboard warning ( yes I know I am meant to use a glass matt type but hey the battery is tucked away in a deep boot cavity & I would worry more about the bad hybrid battery pack under the back seat hitting me first in a serious rear end collision as opposed to a litre or so of acid ).
Having this problem with the locked doors not responding to the keyfob ?, my own personal viewpoint is that I neglected to properly close the drivers door as shortly afterwords the wind done it for me and perhaps placed the car into some sort of lockdown mode ?

My wife and i have noticed over the last few months that our 08 has been revving higher, (much higher), than it used to when driving uphill. It has 65 k miles.

this is the second time this has happened to me: I stopped at a beach access to relax & look at the ocean, turned car off but left key in as was staying in car. When I decided to leave car would not start, dash lights would come on but that was all. Hit power button again lights went off but could not get key out of ignition. After several tries I call AAA, they charged something under the hood & said I needed a new battery. The first time this happened was several months ago & I never replaced the battery. When I got home I did the self check of the voltage & it was 12.8 & car is starting fine. Is this some kind of a computer glitch?

I have a 2008 Touring. The air has always been ice cold, even yesterday. On my commute this morning I noticed that the air was not cold at all for the first time ever. The outside temp said it was 77. I changed the temp, turned it off, etc but nothing changed. I just had it at the Toyota dealer 2 days getting the oil changed.

I am a new Prius owner. I just purchased a 2008 with 27k miles yesterday, and last night I got the "red triangle of death". My car is currently back at the dealership after a very expensive tow. I only got to drive it for about 4 hours.
Before the break down, I was extremely excited to finally have a Prius, and was really happy with my purchase. I'm still excited about having the car, but I'm also highly disappointed that it broke down the day I bought it! I sure hope this isn't a sign to come! I see that most people love their cars, and I've read that they consistently get high dependability ratings.

I have a 08 prius and every now and then when I shut off the car I hear the tiniest little beep and I can't figure out what it is. It isn't my FOB as I've already had that beep and fixed it over the summer. I have an intermittent problem. Sometimes when I start my 2008 Prius, the speedometer panel will not light up. Also, when that happens the backup camera will not work. I tried starting the cal 4 or 5 times with the same result. When I got to my destination I stopped the car and 4 hours later started with no problem. It has done this 2 or 3 times now. Is my speedometer (instrument) panel about to fail?

Our 2008 Prius' center display stopped working last night during our drive home. We are in the middle of a move from Oahu to now Big Island and are in a fairly remote location...
What might have caused this and how to fix it? We can still run AC via steering wheel, however, it's output volume (low or high) can no longer be adjusted. The radio is non functioning now as well.
Prius (2004-09) :: 2008 - ABS / VSC Warning - Brakes Giving Out
On my commute to work this morning my dash lit up wth warning lights for the ABS and VSC, shortly after I noticed that the brakes were pulsating.
I was in slow traffic becuase of a wreck on the interstate and each time you touched the pedal enough to apply more than regenerative breaking, they would pulsate to the point of shaking the car (at under 7 miles an hour). The car acted as if the system was alternating between applying stopping force and not, several times per second.

I bought this second hand 2008 Prius some few months ago. I can't start my 2008 Prius without inserting the key into the slot. I want to start the car with the key in my body, how do i do it? For the past few months when I first start up my '08 it sounds like Curly (Three Stooges) is yuck-yucking under the hood. This occurs right before the engine kicks in and he yucks about 6-8 times. (A few times he yucked after I turned the car off too) This morning when I hit the power button the big red triangle came on and the car didn't start until the third attempt. Ran fine all day. From looking at this site I'm guessing that the triangle means I should check the 12v battery. But what about the yucking??? (Where's Moe) Is it related to the triangle? I am also reading about various recalls and am wondering if there is a website that lists them. How do I tell when my car is manufactured? Several of the recalls mentioned on this forum say the recalls cover only certain months of a specific manufacture year.
