Prius (Gen 2) :: 2005 - How To Check Transmission Oil Level
How do I check the transmission level? If there's any to check.
View 11 RepliesPrius (Gen 2) :: 2005 - Alarm Sounds Whenever Unlock The Car
I just bought a 2005 Prius in great condition. However, the alarm is making me crazy. It sounds whenever I unlock the car, whether by remote or keyless entry. I turned off the keyless entry function, but it still sounds when I press the unlock button on the remote. I have to press it again to get it to stop. It is very shocking, especially when using keyless entry. I walk up, stand for a moment to assure my key fob has communicated with the car, touch the door handle and it goes off! Then the car unlocks, I pull open the door and it stops. One day I was just walking by the car with my key in my purse and the alarm went off! I had to find the key in my purse and press the unlock button to turn it off. So strange!

My wife's 05 Honda Civic with 105,00 miles on it is making a vibrating noise that sounds like going over a washboard. It seems to come from the right front of the car and only happens between 35 and 45 mph. We have been to 2 different repairs shops and replaced the bearings, struts, shocks, axles brakes, tires and engine mounts.. I' spent $ on this car and still haven't fixed the problem. My wife is starting to look at new cars ....

I have read many pages here on issue of leveling trucks.What concerns me most is the pics I see of the drive axles angles.
My question is if my stock 2005 runs a 265/70r17 tire and I level it with a 2 to 2.5" kit and change my rim and tire size to 28565r20 will this keep angles more level..
Phaeton :: Oil Level Too Low Message Displaying On Startup
I haven't been able to find a discussion about failure or replacement of the oil level sensor. I'm getting a error message displayed each time I start the car. I took it into the dealer for an oil change. After they completed the change, they recommended replacing the sensor. I'm inclined to wait another 5k for the next service to do that. Diagnostics did not show any error codes. Doesn't make sense to me. just replace the sensor...

Need to diagnostic the noise coming from my Echo 2005? 70K miles. I took to the dealer twice and spend a total of 500$ but the noise still there. The dealer changed the drive belt , new brake pad and clean the rear drum and adjustment. The noise occurred at start up and sometime at low speed below 10mph. The noise increase then stops after 6 second. [URL] .....
View 10 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 - Check Engine Light Code P0420 - CAT Threshold Level
Had the check engine light in the 2005 F150 (90,000 miles) come on. Got the code checked and its P0420. I know that has to do with the cat threshold levels etc. so I believe I am looking to replace the o2 sensor, if I am not mistaken.
How hard of a job is this? Ive done a decent amount of engine work and worked in a shop in high school. Just looking to see if that is the right thing to try first, replacing the sensor, before replacing the cat.
Also I know its the right bank, but if I am not mistaken there is a before and after the cat o2 sensor, which do i replace? Both?
Golf/GTI VI :: Headlights Won't Self-level Upon Startup Anymore - AFS Failure
My headlights won't self-level upon startup anymore. Added to this, the light bulb warning light is lit, and I'm getting the message: "cornering light (AFS) failure". Bayside VW checked it out when I had it in for its 30,000 mi service, and found "non VW coding". Oh, yeah, that. DRL disabled through VAGCOM makes dealerships unhappy. The tech hypothesized that the disabled DRLs confused the car's computer, but the DRLs had been disabled for some months before this problem appeared. If it matters to you, the ECU is GIAC stage one. Other VAGCOM mod is windows up/down with remote.
View 24 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: 2005 - Bottle Rocket Like Noise At Startup
2005 w/ 188,000 miles, A/T. Zero driveability issues. Torque Pro shows VGT % changing as expected, but I think that's just a commanded %, not a measured %.
So for the last month or so, every time I start my truck, I hear a noise about 3-4 seconds later that lasts about half a second. It sounds like a bottle rocket shooting up into the air (that whistle/scream sound). It happens whether I'm in my 55'F garage with the block heater plugged for a few hours (coolant temp 80-100F), or if it's sitting in the parking lot at work at 20'F all day.
I'm guessing the turbo needs to be cleaned (unison ring sticking?) but want to just get a few quick opinions if that's the right direction to go.
I found there's a $60 Ford brand cleaning kit with some new seals and the 3M sanding discs, so I think I'd do that. Plus, I read there's a new/updated turbo oil drain tube I should install while its apart.
So the big questions I have are: is it likely I need a turbo cleaning, and what else should I do at the same time? Oil drain update? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
And because this thread is worthless without a pic, here I am leading the charge to Rausch Creek last summer!
Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Noise After Shutting Down
My Prius makes a noise (maybe a pump noise?) after shutting down car. I shut down and it makes the noise as I'm getting out - it lasts maybe 5-10 seconds. It sounds like a pump is running and a bearing is going bad. Attached, zipped video is about 1.5MB, 10sec long.
View 8 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Strange Whirring Noise
I have a 2005 Prius with 218,000 miles. Over the past month or two it's started making a horrible noise, which has finally gotten to the point that I can barely stand driving it. I used to keep my radio around 25 or so, but now need to crank it to twice that to hear anything. I can't tell what it is - it sounds vaguely like wheel bearings, but somehow different. The front bearings and a trans drain/fill was done by an independent shop 6,000 miles ago. That shop says the noise is the transmission and definitely not the bearings. My Toyota dealer says the noise is the bearings and definitely not the transmission.
Here are two videos I took this afternoon, which seem to more or less capture it, though it does sound a bit different recorded on a phone than in the cabin:
(this one has a clearer example of the noise)
Background:
I didn't have any complaints with the car until just before the 200,000 mile service was due, when I started hearing front bearing noise (I've had bearings done in about 5 vehicles, so it sounded pretty obvious to me). I brought it to the dealer and was quoted an outrageous amount for front hub assemblies (they told me they couldn't do the bearings, only the whole hub assembly), sway bar end links, alignment, transmission flush, tire rotation and the engine top end service.
I got a much better quote from my local mechanic who I've used for about 3 years, so I had him do the work. This was back in June, at 212,417. He said that they'd never done the flush on a Prius transmission before, but they had the shop manual and were sure of the procedure, and that their Valvoline rep confirmed the correct fluid, and gave them a written warranty in case of any problems. He did note that "a fair amount of metal shavings came out with the old fluid" when they did a drain and fill (not a flush). He also told me that the tires were worn unevenly so I could expect a bit of road noise after the rotation and re-alignment. They an oil change, sway bar end links, front bearings, tire rotation, alignment and reans drain and fill with Valvoline Max ATF, "Toyota Type WS fluid spec." He told me the same thing about the front hubs being complete assemblies, and the part he listed (PBR930641) appears to agree with that.

View 4 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Noise When Taking Foot Off The Brake
I have 2005 Prius, 53K miles on it. Bought it as used car few months ago. It has been running great since then.
Since last few weeks I have been hearing a soft beep every time I take foot off the brake. Today I had my windows down while driving and I realized that the soft beep is actually a loud noise like squeak or beep. I can hear a noise every time I take foot off the brake (NOT when putting foot on the brake).
Anyone can standing near the car or other car drivers at red-light can hear the sound too.. This happens when- the Car is in D, I take foot off the accelerator and press the brake (to slow down or complete stop) then take foot off the brake.
Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 Gen 2 - Scraping Noise On Rear Wheel
I've recently noticed that on my 2005 Gen 2, after starting the car, the first few miles I drive produce a gentle metallic rhythmic scraping sound coming from the right rear wheel.
It's only audible when driving at low speeds (<30 mph), and seems to disappear after the car has been driven for a few miles. But when I start the car fresh the next day, it has reappeared.
The rate of the scraping noise varies directly with the speed I'm driving. I think it only happens when I'm coasting (in Drive), and possibly also when I'm braking.
My guess is something is slightly misaligned or rusty - a disc brake? And the noise "disappears" when the metal gets warmed up?
Prius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Whining Noise Coming From By The Pulley
So I have had my 2005 Prius for over a year now. I love my car but after 7 months it made a whining noise coming from by the pulley. When I would accelerate the noise would get worse. Engine light came on tested and said loss of power. The car would not go up large hills it was gutless. So I parked it. I recently just replaced the pulley and now the noise is gone. I have been driving it short distances and at about 30 miles per hour the car would sputter and hesitate. I would let off the gas and push down on gas pedal lighter and it would go fine.
View 19 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Engine Making Some Noise And Then Went All At Once / Replacement?
I've decide to replace the engine in a 2005 Prius. For whatever reason it went bad around 110,000 miles. It was making some noise and then went all at once. I don't know the complete maintenance history of the car, but I know it was pretty regular. I also know the car was driven mainly highway miles and on A LOT of dirt roads. So, the oil may have needed more frequent oil changes.
View 19 RepliesPrius (2004-09) :: 2005 - Gas Engine Noise / Bad Water Pump?
My 2005 Prius sounds louder to me than normal. The car has 117,000 miles on it and is in great condition. Anyways I can hear, maybe, on the gas engine what sounds like a bad water pump or tension pulley, not sure though? I checked the water pump area and there is no visible signs of a leak or dried pink coolant. If the water pump is indeed bad what can I expect at the Toyota dealership cost wise?

Prius (2010-12) :: High Noise Level During Highway Driving
16 K miles- the noise level when highway driving is beyond belief-- difficult to hear the radio and conversation is a strain. Tires are beginning to cup. Close a front door with a window open produces cheap noise, not a solid thump. Toyota agrees there is noise, but will do nothing about it. " that is the way they are".
