Phaeton :: Slight Cyclic Vibration / Pedal Pressure On Braking

I had the discs replaced by VW UK & my VW garage a few months ago (V6 TDI) , car was close to 3 years and ~50K miles. There was a slight cyclic vibration/ pedal pressure on braking, not easy to detect, but from once you knew it was there it was annoying. I was not convinced the replacement was 100% successful, but it was not until I had 4 new tyres fitted and all rebalanced last week that I could clearly see that I still have the problem, maybe even worse than before the discs were replaced.

2 Queries

-Is there anything else that can cause the same brake pedal feel, other than a warped disc: a bend in a suspension component or the like? I query this as I bent an wheel last year in a huge pothole and wondered if this could have damaged something

-I have found a local company with an on-wheel disc skimming machine that I understand can be excellent to resolve these issues. Maybe this would be the way to go.

Phaeton :: Squealing Noise When Braking Slowly

My Phaeton 2004 3.2 V6 makes a really bad squealing noise when they are warm and the car is just coming to a stop, even if I am only braking slowly. Had VW check the brakes and all they did was to take out the pads, clean them and replace them. Then had the rear discs and pads replaced and it still occasionally does this. Is there something I am missing?????? Who wants to drive a superb car like this and have everyone look at it for the wrong reasons!! Wheel Bolt Torque Specifications (TOC)...

Phaeton :: Slight Juddering Feeling When Braking

I have only done 15000 motorway miles in my 2009 V6 TDI and seem to have a slight juddering feeling when braking. I am sure it did it for a day so a few months ago and disappeared - issue reappeared today. Wonder if it is warped discs? Car has been stood for 2 weeks.

Braking is fine and efficient it is as though you have that shuddering you get when ABS cuts in. Drove 500 miles this weekend and problem still there.

Phaeton :: New Brakes Now Pulsating And Grinding While Braking?

Got new brakes 4 months ago - except this time put in redstuff ceramic pads.

I've had really bad vibration and grinding lately so I just had the rotors machined and cleaned up.

Some of the vibration is gone but when I apply the brakes more than very lightly I get shaking shuddering including the steering wheel. If I apply the brakes harder it goes away.

I would estimate the pulsating/shuddering/shaking happens when I apply the brakes more than 10 percent up to say 40-50 percent. Very light pressure no problems and hard braking no issues.

This has gotten worse since the servicing. What could be causing this? I've already replaced the propshaft and am replacing the tires.

Phaeton :: Clunking Sound That Occurs At Low Speed When Braking

My Phaeton has recently developed a single clunking sound that occurs at low speed, either when braking, or when turning the steering wheel towards the right about 90. The clunk can be felt at the drivers footwell area too.

All four upper control arm bushings were replaced a few months ago and the antiroll bar links are pretty new too.

I have not identified exactly where the noise is coming from, but by placing my hand on all suspension components it seems that the clunk is most felt at the front left rear lower arm. Hence I am wondering if the bushing or the whole arm may need replacement.

Cavalier :: Vibration When Braking On 1999 Chevy

I have a 99 Chevy Cavalier with the 2.2L OHV engine, and I've been dealing with vibration when braking, especially at highway speeds. I just had it in for service and my mechanic replaced a warped front rotor and said that was the problem. It's better now than it was, but I'm still getting some vibration.

3000GT/Stealth :: Vibration And Noise On Car When Braking

Yesterday when I was on my way to a funeral, I noticed that whenever I braked kind of hard there would be a lot of noise and vibration on my car. The noise seemed to be coming from the front passenger side of the car and seemed to pull to the right a bit. I pulled over and took a look and everything looked fine but the sound and vibration was still there.

I drove about 10-15 minutes tops like this, parked the car, did the funeral home service, and 2 hours later while driving to the burial site (about 20 minute drive on the streets and freeway), everything felt fine. No vibration, no noise, nothing.

After the burial site I drove another 15 minutes to my parents house but this time you could hear the sound faintly and only when I braked hard. I jacked up the car and took off all the tires to take a look at the brakes/rotors and everything looked ok. I had plenty of pad left and the rotors seemed fine. With the tires on, I am able to spin the tires with my hands no problem.

This morning I drove to work and had no issues at all. No sound, no vibration, nothing. So at this point, I am stumped at what could have caused the noise and vibration earlier yesterday morning.

Passat (B5) :: 2003 - Heavy Vibration During Braking

My 03 Passat is going in for 40k service this week. I think they're going to tell me I need new brakes and rotors (felt some pretty heavy vibration during braking in the Tennessee hills). I was thinking of changing the front brakes myself. My mechanical abilities are modest, but I've done the brakes on my 94 Ford Ranger before.

1. Is this an easy task?
2. What parts will be needed?

Golf VI R :: Horrible Vibration Under Braking, But Only When Brakes Are Hot

Need to diagnose what I assume is a brake problem. On track, first lap is fine. Second lap start to get a vibration under braking. By the third lap the car is shuddering horrible under braking. Let the car cool for 5 minutes and it's back to the same pattern. Car is fine on the street - no vibration. StopTech slotted rotors and EBC Yellow pads. Rotors and pads have one track day on them and a few thousand commuting miles. My OEM rotors with the same brand pads lasted 4-5 track days and 30k miles.

Acura :: Vibration When Braking At High Speeds

My wife has an Acura, and when braking at higher speeds, she is getting a really bad "vibration". I am assuming the rotors are warped. We had both axles (rotors/pads) done last year (about 40k ago) at Midas. After they did them, we had to take the car back about 3 times for squeaky pads, and I swear a slight vibration, but they didn't fix them. Anyway, even though they offer "lifetime pads," I refuse to go back there.

So, her pads now started squeaking again. We were dealing with the warped rotors until we had some extra money and time to take it in. At this point, I am wondering where I should take it. I have no clue if the pads are good, and I'm guessing the rotors just need to be turned since they were just put on last brake job.

Civic - Honda :: Violent Vibration When Braking

Camry :: 2004 - Vibration During Braking Repeatedly

Fairly early (maybe 50k miles) my '04 Camry 4cyl began developing a vibration during braking that suggested a warped disk . It got progressively worse until it was very severe. So, even though the pads had plenty of life left, I changed the front rotors and pads at about 80k miles. This cleared up the vibration for a little more that 20k miles, but now at 105k miles on the car the braking vibration has returned. It's not bad yet but I can feel it progressing. Why would a warped disk problem return so soon after replacing both front rotors and pads to cure this very problem?

Ford :: Steering Wheel Vibration When Braking

I have a motor home on a Ford E350 chassis. When braking the steering wheel may shake back and forth. It stops as soon as the brake pedal is released. If stopping with minimal brake pressure there is no shake and the shake gets stronger as the brake pressure is increased. What are the possible causes of this problem?

Phaeton :: Check Brake Lights Warning Plus Beep On The Dash When Braking

How the rear, high center mounted brake light (ie "3rd brake light") intermittently lights individual bulbs, but never all at once. It was also causing an annoying "Check Brake Lights" warning plus beep on the dash (on every brake). Till I get it sorted I simply disconnected the 3rd brake light which completely turned it off and just gave me one warning/beep (instead of lots of them).

I spoke to VW about it yesterday and wasnt impressed by their attitude, so last night I tried plugging it back in to see if it was still the same now that my battery should be topped up due to change of house and longer trips. To my surprise at first it worked perfectly, all bulbs lit up.

However the more I tested, the less lights lit up. It was quite strange, they would "dance" on an off right in front of me. Wiggling the wiring had a small effect, but it didnt seem to be a wiring issue. So I plugged it out and left it was it was (disabled). However to my annoyance on my trip in today, I start getting repeated "Check Brake Light" warnings beeps (remember, its disconnected so it should do it once only) and even more irritating every time the warning came up on the dash the front left headlamp would flash on and off once! What the hell is going on with the lighting system!

Lexus RX 2010-15 :: Vibration At High Speed And While Braking

2010 RX 350 NAP ... Brand New and OEM where it would apply : Tires (Conti's LX20s)

Brakes / Rotors (had same shake before replacing and did not improve after replacement but maybe I am dealing with a bad caliper here)
Tie Rod Ends
Stab Links
Lower Control Arm Ball Joint

None of which have solved a vibration issue thus far. Strut feels solid and the corner push test had the car settle out in less than 2 bounces.

If car has sat a while the driver front (where the issue lies) feels like a imbalanced tire/bent rim (rotated the wheels just to be sure it didn't follow the wheel/tire) or like a broken belt. The tires are almost brand new and only put them on because I was trying to eliminate the point of issue.

When braking, a light touch to the brake pedal makes a almost light clank sound (like weight shift is causing the clank or perhaps a sign of a bad caliper (although pad wear looks even but didn't have rotors rechecked but even with brand new rotors it was there so I don't feel it's a warped rotor plus the vibration is there even when not applying the brakes.

There is only one control arm and the bushing didn't look cracked beyond the normal surface cracking I have seen on most rubber bushing. The upper support is from the strut so perhaps a bad strut or maybe strut support/cap/bearing?

At a total loss as the local garages cannot find anything wrong. My thought was a bad wheel bearing, although there is not any grinding sound that you typically hear when a hub is going bad.

Could also be the CV Joint but not sure how to tell if that really issue the issue unless I replace all the other parts first (hub, caliper, strut/support/bearing).

Camry :: 2006 - Vibration In Steering Wheel When Braking

I have a 2006 Camry 4 cylinder that I turned the rotors on all four wheels and replaced all the brake pads on all four wheels with ceramic pads. I did this a year or two ago.

Now this doesn't happen every time you brake but sometimes you will get a vibration in the steering wheel when braking.

When I had the rotors turned at O'Reillys they said they were too thin. So I had them bring out a new one and that one was too thin as well according to whatever specs they were using. So they turned my old ones.

And the car doesn't pull to either side when braking. There are not grooves in the rotors and it doesn't make any screeching when braking. I did notice that there is a ridge on the edge of the rotor when you run your finger across it from the inside to the outside of the rim of it. My guess the rotors are warped.

And if the rotors need to be replaced is this rotor better than the stock ones and thicker? [URL] ....
