Phaeton :: Oil Leak From Front Differential
Last night just before parking my Phaeton in my garage I've took a look and saw a small amount of oil on the floor. It was light and judging by the oil location and color it could be from the front differential. I had this on my A8 , it wasn't difficult to fix, my mechanic changed the main seal. As far as I know the A8 quattro system is the same on the Phaeton, so, should I assume that it can also easily be fixed.
View 3 RepliesPhaeton :: Slight Oily Leak In Front Driver Side Under The Bumper
04-V8 - little over 85k. Timing belt replaced recently.
There is a small oily leakage in the very front drivers side under the bumper. Its in front of the tire and as described under the bumper. I see some hoses in that area from underneath and a bit of oil-ly leakage from under the hood looking down into that same area.
So, what lurks behind the front bumper in front of the driver side front wheel? The oil leak seems like light oil, but ... are the oil cooler lines there?
Are the power steering lines there? Asking because I did recently have to fill the power steering reservoir from suddenly near dry (as far as I know) so that is a suspect. And yes, I filled it with the right stuff (pentosin).
Phaeton :: 2008 - Leak After Oil Change?
I am a new owner of 2008 vw phaeton w12.
I buy the car three months ago. I have spend 2000 miles and two days ago i go to change the oil and filters.
After the change i have oil leak. I am sure its from the engine oil!
What might be the problem and hows that possible after oil change to have a oil leak?!
Phaeton :: Transmission Pan Gasket Leak
As mentioned in one of my posts I recently had small oil leaks on my garage floor. I first thought that it came from the front dif, well, after having an oil change at the dealer it appeared that the tranny oil pan gasket is leaking, I was under the car with the tech and I saw it. It is a small leak the dealer wants to change the gasket and tranny fluids. Being under the car it seems to me that to remove the pan and replace the gasket is an easy job..I will look into the Benley tonight.
View 7 RepliesPhaeton :: Coolant Leak - Bad Water Pump
Noticed about a gallon of coolant on my floor the last 4 days. Got it pressure tested and was told bad water pump. Had it changed with timing belt and tensioners. Got home, next day, same thing. Coolant everywhere. Also, do I really need to put G12++ in as coolant? I've been using it but the shop put some green stuff in it.
I have a 2005, V8, Phaeton with 181,000 miles. Also, my car overheated, got the coolant too hot warning, 270 on gauge, let it sit 5 minutes, no problem afterwards. Should the thermostat have been changed also?
Phaeton :: 2008 - Leak On Exhaust Manifold?
I have V6 Tdi -08 and my car has developed a tiny leak on the right hand side exhaust manifold. The purchase price for a new manifold is not to expensive but I now wonder difficult it is to replace considering how tight it is in the engine bay. If the engine has to come out in order to have it replaced or repaired.

I was checking the engine today and I think I found a coolant leak close to the Oil Filter reservoir, the fluid is PINK color and that matches the coolant type of fluid, check the pictures. Looking for the location from where the leak might be coming ? Do the Thermostat or Water Pump are closer to that location ?, I have the theory that they might be the cause of the coolant leak, they were changed about 4,000 miles ago,
View 7 RepliesPhaeton :: Water Leak In Cabin Foot Well While Blowing Air Down There?
I went in for an oil change and told them to visually inspect the car for a water leak. There was another phaeton in the shop with a water problem that was costing the customer thousands so I thought they might be able to see a red flag. I get the car back and they told me they blew air through the sunroof vents.
I've had the passenger foot well carpet up to monitor the floor to see if water has been leaking since I sealed around a couple batter terminal points that went through the firewall, and it had been dry.
But I had a feeling blowing that air through the vents might have dislodged the hose from the connector, so I put some water through the sunroof vent, and it totally started pouring into the footwell. It had NEVER done that when pouring water through the sunroof vent when I was diagnosing it before.
I feel like the dealer made the problem worse by blowing air down there, and now the dash is probably going to have to come out, and i'm assuming they will make me pay for it.
Phaeton :: Radiator Leak / Coolant Consumption High
I have serious drain now on the left side of the vehicle, and it appears to come from the radiator itself. Coolant consumption is approaching fuel consumption. Replace the radiator in a 2006- W12? Looking for some info on similar leaks and found them not originating from the radiator?
View 11 RepliesPhaeton :: Leak From Left Valve Cover Gasket
I had a very slow oil leak that dripped onto the garage floor and i brought it into the dealership. They said it was a leaking left valve cover gasket; I searched and came up with nothing? The engine has just over 30K miles on it.
View 20 RepliesPhaeton :: Oil Cooler Coolant Leak - Swap Engine?
I take my 4.2 to a great mechanic in the Minneapolis area. I took it in for some pretty hefty service. Control arm bushings, ATF change, and timing belt. My car has 205k miles on it and I feel like shes got another 100k in her. Lots of highway miles. I mentioned that I noticed a small coolant leak in the right front. He gave a compassionate grin and he seemed to know exactly what it was. He told me about a plastic pipe near the oil cooler that leaks. He's seen it on a handful of A8s. Told me to read up on it...I wish I hadn't. It seems like one hell of a job. Engine needs to come out.
My question is, if the engine is coming out and I've got 205k on it, do I take the opportunity to buy a used low mileage engine and enjoy another 200k+ miles? For those with experience regarding this leak, is this something I can live with, or does it continue to get worse? The system holds pressure as it is. It's a very small leak.
Phaeton :: V8 - Coolant Leak Coming From Area Under Oil Filter Housing
I have a coolant leak coming from the area under the oil filter housing where the cooler is. My thought is the little plastic pipe between the cooler and the engine block. I have the alternator removed but am wondering what's next. Can I get to the cooler without dropping the engine?

I have a fuel leak below the rear passenger seat, just off the fuel tank, something that looks like a filter or fuel pump, dripping fuel and after an hour it just stops, makes me think it`s empty. What is that thing anyways, has a hose running all the way up front? I have 2004 V8 beauty.

I have a gas leak coming from the r/s rear of the tank. The exposed fuel lines all look good. It seems to be dripping down from the top but I can't see anything unless I drop the tank down. I ran the smoke tester but don't see anything comming out. Could I have overfilled the tank??

I just noticed 2 small puddles under the car tonight. They are in the center left to right, and about even with the steering wheel (front to back). They appear to be water, but I was just wondering if this is the normal a/c discharge, or something else?
View 3 RepliesPhaeton :: 2004 - Leak In Windshield Washer Fluid Reservoir?
My 2004 Phaeton has apparently developed a leak with the windshield washer fluid resivoir. Last week the check light came on for low washer fluid. I filled it and now a week later it's on again.
Is there anything in particular that I need to check? I thought I recalled reading about an issue concerning this but I've not found it.
Phaeton :: Code 01583 - Leak In System Detected / Level Fault Error
In the past few weeks I have seen an intermittent "Level Error-Workshop". However every suspension function has worked perfectly, and no height was lost even while sitting at the airport for a week.
How to track down the leak. I can see a tank pressure of about 13 PSI. Is that about right. I did a raise / lower while VCDS was connected and there was a pressure drop to about 11.7 PSI but no level error. What is the correct range of tank pressure settings?

Phaeton :: Front Windshield Not Supposed To Fog Up?
Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought I heard someplace that the climate system is supposed to be so advanced on the car, that the windshield and the windows shouldn't fog up. If it is true, I was able to beat the system tonight.I made the windshield and the front windows fog up.
View 9 RepliesPhaeton :: Car Pulls To The Right - Front End Wiggles
This problem started about 1000 miles ago, but has gotten more noticeable over the past few days (and 2 long trips). The car, when under way at all speeds, pulls to the right. If I release the wheel, the pull is immediate and direct, not like the usual "drift" that was there before. At slow speeds I can detect a "wobble" coming from the front end that I thought might have been a loose wheel. I checked the wheel as best I could, and it seems tight. As the speed of the car increases, the "wobble" feeling goes away. I am just left with having to correct the steering wheel slightly left to compensate for the pull to the right.
I seem to recall having a tire break a radial belt on another car which caused some similar issues, but it was a long time ago and I don't remember specifics. Brakes seem fine, wheel seems tight. I don't recall running over any bad potholes or anything like that. Tire pressures are equal. Whatever the problem is, it is not making any noises. No hum like a wheel bearing going or anything else identifiable. I'm thinking either a front wheel might have thrown a balance weight; I have a wheel out of round for some reason (or a tire out of round); or maybe something else.
