Touareg :: Red Message Showing Steering Defective Workshop
When I was in the touareg a few minutes before everything was fine. Then I unlocked it got in and inserted key and the steering will not unlock, ignition will not turn on, or starter crank. The battery voltage is fine all accessories work. I tried to disconnect the ground strap and reconnected, no change. When I closed the door I saw the red message come on stating "Steering Defective Workshop". The message doesn't always reappear.
View 11 RepliesPhaeton :: 2004 - Getting Intermittent Steering Failure - Workshop Message?
I posted last week that I was getting an intermittent "Steering Failure - Workshop" message on my '04 V-8 Phaeton. I asked forum members if I was alone and no one responded to the post. Last week I made an appointment with my VW dealer to get the car's steering fault looked at but I wasn't fast enough. The other day the car would not let me start it. The 'steering failure workshop' problem doesn't seem to be a mechanical issue. There are two other '04 Phaeton's at my dealer right now with the same problem. It looks like my car will join the party awaiting new steering control modules. The back-order on the modules appears to be at least another three weeks. Funny, you can get an entire Phaeton steering column in two days. If and when this steering module goes south all kinds of fun interior electrical glitches jump on board. No one ever said owning a Phaeton wouldn't be interesting and yes I still plan on keeping it for a very long time.

The summer has come and the ADR's radar overheats. I receive a massage : DEFECTIVE! . All cruise control functions are disabled. That means I don't have cruise control in the summer, Too bad. I just want to know if it is possible to deactivate ADR while keeping the regular cruise control on using VAG-COM without any hardware change.

I have 2004 V8 Phaeton ,the message LEVEL FAULT WORKSHOP. keeps appearing ,then disappearing, sometimes it will stay until the car is turned off,. When it comes some times even on long highway journeys I wont see it at all!. When it comes on nothing seems to change.
View 6 RepliesPhaeton :: Error Message System Fault Workshop With Audible Beep
I've been getting this "system fault workshop!" error message popping up like crazy. Its got a picture of a key, and makes the audible beep when it appears. on a short drive to work, maybe 10 minutes, it will randomly come on and beep anywhere from 3-10 times during my drive. The car starts and drives perfectly fine. This has been happening for a little over a week now. I noticed one post about this before, but that owner seemed to have different symptoms as their car wouldn't start. I really would hate to bring it into the dealership, as I've just paid them a small fortune fixing different things to finally get down to the bottom of it to find out i needed new fuel pump modules.
View 3 RepliesPhaeton :: Level Fault - Workshop Message Displaying On Instrument Cluster
My 2004 Phaeton with a little over 100k miles on it has been giving me a problem with the air ride suspension. When starting the vehicle, a "Level Fault - Workshop" message is displayed on the instrument cluster, and the car has been slowly sinking as the air ride (I presume) slowly deflates. Around 10,000 miles ago, I had a problem with the suspension, but that time the car immediately and actively sank; this was solved by replacing the air ride computer (it is the B, not C-type). I've tried replacing the computer with another B-type computer, but to no avail. The local VW dealer and an independent import car garage have told me some things, and I would like to learn more about this problem and possible ways to try and solve it.
1. I have been told that no voltage is making it from the computer to the left front sensor. Dealer says its the computer, but could this possibly be the wiring harness or a bad connection? If so, how do I get into the wheel well in order to test this hypothesis? My best guess is it isn't the computer, as the car never actively sank (this happened when the original computer went bad).
2. I have also been told that the right rear sensor is bad. Is this a part I can replace with a modest amount of auto knowledge? I do my own oil, replace brake pads/rotors, etc. If so, any drawing/maintenance manual parts list available?
3. I have heard conflicting reports as to a freshly-ordered sensor being and not being compatible with the B-type computer. Dealer told me new sensors will only speak to a C-computer; independent garage told me new sensors will speak to my B computer. Who is correct?
From a few hours of internet browsing from the first instance and this second instance of failure, it seems this is a somewhat common issue with the 2004 Phaeton.
Passat (B6) :: Message On MFD - Steering Column Lock Defective
I recently took my Passat to the dealer because I got a message on the MFD saying that the steering column lock was defective. The car is still under warranty so I wasn't worry about the cost but I was expecting the dealer to have to change the entire steering column since I had read that the column lock is integral to the steering column.
When I picked up the car they told me that they only had to change the column lock. It appears that they have found a way to change the column lock only rather than the entire steering column. However what really through me for a loop was that they asked me for my second key and told me that they had to reprogram it.
Now I am wondering how the whole immobilizer, ECU, steering column lock and keys work when it comes to the programming. I want to understand this in the event that it happens again after the warranty expires so I can repair it myself. How the SKC code works and how to go about it if I need to swap the immobilizer or column lock module again in the future or even adapt a new key?
Passat (B6) :: Defective Steering Column, Message Appeared
Just had this error come up in the MFD sat nite. Steering column locked up, had to pull key out and re-start. Everything was fine after that. I did have the same error about 2 years ago when I first bought it. Should I bring it up to the dealer, or just forget about it since it hadn't come back.
View 11 RepliesPhaeton :: Level Fault Workshop - ABS / ESP Lights On When Put Car In Gear And Start Moving
One of my issues is a "level fault workshop" message and abs/ esp lights that only appear once I put the car in gear and start moving.
The car does seem to raise and lower normally and there doesn't seem to lose height over night.
To check if it's a particular wheel height sensor, what controller should I scan in vcds? Nothing related to suspension came up in my full auto scan.
I did have an intermittent brake light switch code, could that generate the level fault?.
Passat (B6) :: Steering Column Lock Defective Warning - Car Will Start And Shut Right Off
Not sure what is going on but every few days the car does not want to start. It will start, then shut right off. if i try to tap the gas it's like there is nothing there and it shuts off anyway. Sometimes, not every time I will get the steering column lock defective warning. Then after a few more attempts, the car starts, runs fine, and will start fine for days in a row.

View 13 RepliesPassat (B5) :: CEL Accompanied By Emissions Workshop Message Came On
I'm the orgional owner of a 2001 Passat 1.8T with manual transmission...It has 93,000 miles on it.
Last week, the check engine light came on and a "Emissions Workshop!" message light came on. It was on for a few days, then disappeared for a few days, only to come back.
I took it to Autozone for a reading. Here's the results:
"The PCM has determined that during testing, the fuel system for bank 1 was too lean.
Definition: Fuel trim bank one condition
Explanation: The powertrain control module uses the oxygen sensor to calculate the air/fuel ratio of the engine.
The computer has recognized a rich or lean condition on one engine bank only.
Probable Causes:1. If bank one and two codes set together fuel pressure or MAF Sensor
2. Oxygen sensor defective
3. Ignition misfire-repair
4. Fuel injector repair.
Someone here asked if my oil was recently changed-It was.
Driveability hasn't been affected, nor has mpg. The car drives as normal.
I need to go on a 1,000 mile trip in a few days, and don't think I'll have time to have the car serviced.
Passat (B5) :: CEL Came On And Emissions Workshop Message Popped Up
I bought a 2000 Passat GLS w/ the V6 a couple weeks ago, and the very next day after buying it, the CEL came on and something popped on saying Emissions Workshop. I waited a couple weeks to see if it would turn off, but it didn't so I took it to a mechanic.
The first time, they just said a couple codes were off so they reset the computer. About 20 miles later, the lights came back on. I took it back and they hooked it up to their computer again.
They said the o2 sensors were perfect, and it was most likely some sort of resistance in one of my cats. The car runs absolutely perfect. I just wanted to get some feedback from ya'll because I do not want to pay the money to have a cat replaced if I don't have to.
Golf IV R32 :: Alternator Workshop Message On Console
Since it rained here in Socal today...i got the dreaded "Alternator Workshop" message on my console...It showed up for a split sec just enough time for me to read it. I had just finish installing my Evoms Vflow intake so I started my car and rev'd a few times before the message showed up. It quickly disappeared right after it showed up. I've been reading that the belt could be wet from the rain causing this message or definitely my alternator is bad.
What should I be checking to make sure everything is ok? My car only has 41k miles and it has been sitting for almost 2 weeks.
Golf IV R32 :: Alternator Workshop Error Message Appeared
Don't know know the cause of this message. From what I've been able to find, it sounds like a serpentine belt.

I have been getting the "Running Gear Fault Workshop!" message on my MFI almost every day for about a week now. Or can it wait a month until my scheduled 20,000 mile service?
View 1 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Alternator Workshop Message And Battery Light Came On
I have a B5 Passat that came in with the alternator workshop light on. Upon a few tests i determined the alternator was bad. I removed the alternator and installed a remand one that was correct for the vehicle. amps and all. After getting it all back together i started it and the car ran fine. I drove it around and shut the car off. Customer took the vehicle and after 15 minutes the car was back for the alternator workshop message being on and battery light again.
I restarted the car and it was off. I restarted it again and it came back on. Replaced the Alternator again with another and took it for a more extensive drive. The lights stayed off this time. I parked the vehicle and shut it down. Waited a few moments and restarted it just to be safe, the lights had came back on again..... After testing it more I've come to find that when the lights are off the alternator is charging the vehicle as it should and when there on the vehicle is not charging. I don't know what it could be at this point but I am absolutely sure its not the alternator.... I honestly don't think this many are bad in a row.
