Camry :: Steering Wheel Shake Only When Braking Hard At High Speed
If the front rotors are warped would I not feel it when braking anytime and not just braking hard at high speed?

A few months ago I had the oil changed in my 06 Passat and they forgot to reset the service engine display. When I stopped by later, the regular guy was not there so the mechanic tried to reset it...after which , when the car starts moving, the odometer disappears and is replaced with the speed in kilometers. Nothing important, the trip odometer is still there but I think I would prefer the original setting. How to get my miles back?
View 3 RepliesMazda :: Starts To Shake When Brakes Are Used At 55+ Mph - Rotors Malfunction
When I am going between 55+ mph my car starts to shake when I use my brakes. The mechanic at the Mazda dealership told me that the brake rotors are warped and need replacing. I asked the mechanic how this happened when I have such low mileage on the car. He said that the rotors would warp if they overheated which could happen if I brake going downhill, doing a lot of city driving, or if carrying a heavy load.
My car has only about 11,600 miles on it. Monday-Friday I drive 5 miles to work each way. On weekends I drive about 50 miles on the highway. I do not ride the brakes and I can only think of two times in the 2 years I have had the car that I have had to slam the brakes on hard. Clearly, most of the brake use is during my drive to work, but that is only 5 miles one way.
I explained that I do not carry heavy loads since I normally drive by myself and maybe a dog or two. I also explained that the other situations he posted of braking when going downhill or doing a lot of city driving sound like normal driving situations, and not anything that should cause rotors to warp? The mechanic said that he could only tell me what would cause my rotors to warp and that how I drive is "on me".... grrrr. Not happy with that response at all.
I bought an extended warranty when I bought the car new and was at this time told that because the rotors are warped, as opposed to cracked, they aren't covered by the extended warranty because warping is considered a result of routine use. The repair is also not covered because I am over 12 months on the normal warranty.
Does this scenario sound right in a car with this mileage? Could I possibly have warped the rotors during a 5-mile commute to work? If so, what do I need to do to prevent this from happening again, because I am not willing to pay $350+ every 12,000 miles to replace rotors? I have been driving for over 40 years and have never run into this problem before. This is my first Mazda though, and it very well may be my last.
Prius (Gen 3) :: 2010 Engine Starts To Shake, P3191 Appears
I have a Prius 2010, 4 years old with 144.000 km.
The last 3 night we had temp. below freezing point. So every time I started my Prius up at the morning, the engine starts to shake violent, and then automatically shut off the engine with a message on the screen "Check Hybrid System". So after several times I restart the car, it runs normally, still with the message on. The temperature outside was -1 degree Celsius.
So I used my OBD to pick up the codes, which says P3191 - Unknown Error.
What does this error mean at what could cause this problem?
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Vibration Starts Above 45 MPH - Truck Shake Only When Pulling A Trailer?
I took it to the dealer and they blamed the trailer. I told them that I have pulled two different trailers and it did it with both. Then he said that the trailer was not heavy enough to weigh down the springs. So now I not suppose to tow an empty trailer? Also my father in law has pulled the trailer with his Z71 with no shake and the other belongs to a neighbor with a 98 F150 with no shake. The vibration only starts above 45mph. Any clue as to what could be causing this?

I wanted to believe I had rid the car of the steering wheel vibration when I lowered the Psi in the tires from 46-50Psi to the 35Psi it should have. However, the car still has a vibration in the steering wheel when going highway speeds accelerating up gradual hills or when accelerating out of a sweeping turn at highway speeds. It is very noticeable, you can see the hands on the wheel shake. Passengers don't notice it. I had my brother in law drive it without mentioning to him and he noticed it as well.
View 9 RepliesCivic - Honda :: 1990 - Car Shake A Bit At High Speed
I just got new parts replaced in my car and I thought it would run way better but it seems to run worse. I took it in to a mechanics shop that I new. I have a 1990 Honda Civic Si Hatchback and before I he replaced new parts it was running nice. At high speeds after a while it would shake a bit and then the Engine light would turn on. He found out it was the O2 sensor. He has fixed other problems I had before and it made it better but this time I don't know what happened. So this time he replaced my timing belt, O2 Sensor, Water Pump, Spark Plugs, Valve cover seals, and just cleaned around the new parts. He said it was very dirty and gross in side my block and other placed. When I got it back from him I drove it around and it felt REALLY sluggish. Its a standard. Normally it would jolt forward because it had a quick acceleration and I learned to control it well but now it has a fixes slow start no matter how hard or far I push down on the gas? Its a lot easier and smoother to change gears because before I would seem my passengers jerk when I changed gears but I did see them do it this time. I have a feeling it's my O2 Sensor. It felt like a sport car before and now it feels like it drives like I'm a old nerves lady.
View 11 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: Slight Shake At Highway Speed About 90 KPH
So, after putting new tires on my truck about 2 years, I noticed a slight shake when I drove at about 90kph. I let it go for quite some time thinking it was just a balance issue.
Well this weekend I spent 7 hours washing, waxing, and polishing my truck. It was worth. The rims reflect the moonlight now. It's amazing. During this washing, I scrubbed in behind the spokes of the rims. I found a big chunk of mud. Well surprise surprise, my shake at 90kph went away... or so I thought.
I no longer have the shake when driving at 90 or accelerating through 90kph like I used to. Now I have the shake when I let off the gas at 100 and drop to 80kph. It shakes at 95 through 90, and then goes away.
What is causing this? The parking brake is never used, and is showing no signs of engaging while driving. Is this a driveshaft issue?
Touareg :: Shake In The Steering Between 55 - 75 Mph?
Maybe that topic has being covered already but I'm experiencing a nightmare with my V6 t-reg since day one. Between 55 and 75mph I feel a light shake and I can see the steering moving (shaking). Volks has already changed the tire ( from Dunlop to Continental). V6 Drive Shaft to a V8 and the problem is not solved
View 10 RepliesTouareg :: Steering Wheel Shake At 70 MPH
I know there has been much talk about steering wheel shake between 70-80mph. I have the shakes at 70mph. But, I'm wondering why my service department (Boucher VW in WI) can't drive my car up to 70mph so they can feel the shake. The service manager said they absolutely cannot go over 65mph. So ofcourse they can't verify the shake and in turn won't balance my new front tires properly (VW replacements). Am I losing my mind here -- I can't have a car that doesn't shake at highway speeds? How to get them properly balanced through VW service?

View 8 RepliesTouareg :: Steering Wheel Shake At 60 - 70mph
We purchase a left over 2005 V8 and upon driving home I notice the steering wheel shook at about 63mph and throgh 75mph. A tell tail sign of the front tires being out of balance. Hard to believe at 150 miles.
So when I brought it in for a dead battery and to fix some issues it had when we picked it up (so much for Perfect Delivery) of course they gave me crap about not being able to go that fast and typical BS.
I told them it wasn't normal and I'm not an idiot. Plus the speed limit is 70pmh in lots of places out here. Taking a ride with the tech of course they see it happen, and try some BS about it being common in 4WD, typical response instead of being upfront.
So they are going to re-balance all the tires, but my GF noticed a slight pull to the right so I'm going to have them align it too (love how dealers think I enjoy bringing it back in) but is there any issue with the Truck, something beyond the simple fix I think it is?
There's no way a wheel should shake like that, even though they said it was slight. My Z has 25,000 miles and I can't feel any shake, and I've never felt another AWD truck do that. I just want to make sure I couldn't find any balljoint issues or something.
Subaru - Impreza :: 2009 - Steering Wheel Shake?
I have an 09 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport with 70k miles. I recently had new rotors and new tires replaced, an alignment and recently brought it into the dealer for its standard 60k tune up. I now feel a shimmy in my steering wheel at about 65-70 mph. It tends to come and go but I do a lot of highway driving and I feel it quite a bit. I already had the tires rebalanced 3 times and when that didn't fix the problem the shop replaced the tires with a brand new set. I still fill the shimmy. Is this a common problem with Subaru?
View 12 RepliesLexus SC430 :: Steering Wheel Shake At 60-65 Mph - Wheels Shimmy
2002 SC430 with 50k miles. I have a set of aftermarket Dolce rims that are 18" with the stock size tires. I have the eccentric spacers on them as well. They have been mounted and balanced. I also have a set of Dunlop snow tires on my stock rims. Obviously I do a seasonal change over.
With either set of tires I am getting a steering wheel shake at 60-65 mph. By 80mph its gone and the car glides perfectly. There is no pulsation in the brake pedal and there is minimal wear on the pads. Below 60mph there is no issues as well.
Tires are wearing evenly. Some roads will make the movement worse, but it always goes away at around 80 mph.
Now both sets of tires were mounted and balanced by the same shop. I assume that could be it...there machine is faulty. But I would like some other possibilities before I try somewhere else.
Camry :: Steering Wheel Shake / Shudder / Wobble While Braking
I got a 2006 Solara SLE. while braking from highway speeds, the steering wheel shakes VIOLENTLY. city driving its not noticable. cruising the car is silky smooth. The one front caliper was sticking and i replaced pads, pins, rotor. Still shakes. i tried swapping pins as one pin has a sleeve at the tip and i didnt remember which one went where. i did notice the pin with no sleeve fits loosely. the rotor is AZ Duralast brand. the car has 200k trouble free with no suspension work ever done.
I am lost what to do and need to make a long trip coming up. I was going to try in order- replace other rotor, spin the one rotor and replace guide pin with a sleeved one, then do lateral run out test/lathe, alignment, then if that dosnt work a stick of dynamite. Iheard a bad tie rod or ball joint can cause this, i find it unlikely as it would probably shake all the time. Other small issue is a loud thunk in the rear when it hits bumps. Rear swaybar mounts?
Ford 6.7L Power Stroke Diesel :: Steering Shake Noticeable At 75 Mph
I posted many months ago about a problem I had while towing. This weekend I towed about 5,000 lbs, bumper pull with no load distribution, for about 600 miles. The truck did well except for the steering shake I noticed at 75 mph. The road was smooth, all interstate, but it did go away when traveling about 70 mph. I've had the tires road force balanced, two alignments and it's stock with 20 inch BFG's AT (2012 Laria 4 door, 4x4, diesel). I'm running 65 psi with a dual steering stabilizer from pro comp and all four shocks pro comp as well. Could it be the casters or anything similar?

I have a 2004 fx4 supercrew 4x4 , 170k miles. I bought it a few months ago and installed a 6" rough country lift and 35" tires. I noticed a little shake in the steering wheel but not too bad, just annoying. I just put on a fabtech dual steering stabilizer to remedy the problem and its much worse. What could be at fault that dual stabilizer would make it worse? I hate to just take them off, I would rather find the problem. Oh, the tires are all balanced and I had an alignment done also.

My dad gave me this car a year ago. In great shape however, we've had some issues with extreme vibrating. Motor mounts have been replaced, brakes and rotors are new, ball joints new, and tires still have good tread left. Vibration is so bad that the steering wheel shakes and so do the seats. It happens it park, neutral, and at stops. Its loud and very embarrassing.
