Golf V R32 :: Engine Oil Dipstick Hard To Read
I am new to this car. It seems to be scraping on the way out-therefore distorting an accurate read. Best way?
View 5 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: How To Read Transmission Dipstick
Just did a drop an refill of my trans fluid. Put in a little under 8 qts.
My question is where should the fluid read ? Is half way between full and E good or should it be right up to the line ?
Obviously I'm reading it while trans is warm and in nuetral, engine running
Passat (B5) :: Check Engine Light Came On - Read Error Code?
2003 1.8t passat wagon. 50k miles... The check engine light came on today. Oil and engine temp are fine. Can most shops plug in and diagnose? Can I get one of those code readers at Advanced Auto parts to read the error code?
View 5 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 2000 - OBDII Scanner Won't Read For Emissions Testing

My ABS light is flashing but my friend said this is not a problem he fix more than 4 car just replacing the aftermarket radio....
Passat (B7) :: Yellow Sludge On Dipstick
I went to check my oil this morning even thought its only been roughly 2000 miles since the last change/filter(Napa Gold and Mobil One 0w40). I noticed that the dipstick had just a tad of yellowish snot stuff on it. I know it mean water in the oil but I cleaned it off and recheck, put a hair more in and it was all clean no more snotty yellow gunk.
My question is because it is cold and my dad moves it almost every morning before work could it be condensation? I know with my 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe with roughly 153,000 miles used to get the same yellow snot stuff in the oil fill neck but never on the dipstick. The passats oil filler cap/neck were both free of any snotty stuff.
If its still like this tomorrow I'm taking it to the dealer. Also there's still coolant and I couldn't be sure if there was any less as if it was a leaky head gasket but the rest of the oil is clean and not milkshake like.
Passat (B5) :: Oil Dipstick Missing Pieces
Just finished changing my oil and noticed that the dipstick was cracked. Upon further inspection I noticed the end which mates with the plastic tube was cracked and there were missing chips. I can only imagine where they ended up, in the oil. My question is, what to do? Since this is a plastic component, I assume that it will not harm the interior engine parts, but not 100% sure.
View 5 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 2004 B5.5 1.8T Moisture In Dipstick Tube?
I have the above passat with the AWM motor. There is signs of moisture in the dipstick tube, but not on the oil fill cap. Now today the plastic dipstick funnel snapped due to being frozen to the dipstick.
Now the dipstick had what looks like lithium grease on it. The car has been slowely loosing coolant. But exhaust is clear, no signs of steam or coolant burning through exhaust.
But if the lithium grease like substance on the dipstick was a oil/coolant mix WHY did it freeze . I use a 50/50 mix of pentofrost SF. According to their lable should be good down to below zero. It has not gotten that cold here yet, even at night.
Why or how I could be getting moisture into the motor? And why is it only visible on/in the dipstick funnel and nowhere else.
Passat (B5) :: Oil Dipstick Tube Broke In Half
I was checking the oil this morning before getting ready to drive (for an hour) to the in-laws for Christmas, and the Effing orange plastic dipstick tube broke about halfway down. Now I'm afraid to drive for an hour at highway speeds, for fear that a lot of oil might come out of that compromised Effing orange plastic dipstick tube part -- would you all agree that I should not drive the car? Figures this would happen on Christmas Eve when nothing is open.
View 6 RepliesPassat (B6) :: Oil Level Low / Barely Get Reading On Dipstick
Car is burning through a higher than usual amount of oil? I just went to the dealer to do an oil change because the oil was so low I could barely get a reading on the dipstick, no leaks were found, and the car does not smoke.

Passat (B5) :: 1999 - Dipstick Funnel Broken
I bought a 1999 Passat 1.8T a few days ago. I noticed before I bought it that the dipstick funnel was broke but I knew it was only a $2 part. Today I bought the part at a local dealer and went home to install it. Problem is the old one is actually broke in half. One half remains on the dipstick the other half on the tube. I can't for the life of me get that thing off the tube. I have a inspection scheduled at the dealer tomorrow so if I can't get it off I will probably just have them do it.
View 1 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 2003 - Broken Dipstick Oil Case?
I have a broken dipstick sleeve for my 2003 Passat 1.8-liter.
I bought a new sleeve from the dealership, but not sure how to uninstall the old one and put in the new one.The oil sleeve is in a tight spot. I can't understand how to remove it without taking apart other engine parts.
Passat (B6) :: 2008 - Oil Consumption / Dipstick Reads Completely Full
We just past 1000 miles on our new 08 2.0T wagon and there is '0' oil consumption. The dipstick reads completely full. And...it is noticeably cleaner than our 06 2.0T after 1000 miles (after oil changes).

View 6 RepliesPassat (B6) :: AC Blowing Warm Air
So, I get in my car yesterday after being away for the weekend (the car has been sitting for 4 days). I get in and crank the AC and it blows warm air. My first thought was "here we go, I need a new AC compressor". I decided to pull into a driveway and I turned off the car, and then turned it on again. When I restarted the car, the AC kicked in like it is supposed to. Cold air as always. Is this a sign of the AC going out?
View 4 RepliesPassat (B5) :: A/C Blowing Warm Air Out?

Anyways, It's blowing warm air out, not hot or anything just pretty much outside air (the feel of it atleast) Can this be recharged with free0on or w.e it takes??
View 2 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Oil Light And Buzzer Comes On Once Warm
Picked up a 5spd 98 Passat w/AEB issues... 117K miles
Oil light & buzzer comes on once warm... so I flushed with Mobil syn 0-40W (previous owner was using whatever oil).
Dropped oil pan, changed out oil pump w/Meyle oil pump (good sludge & nice metal shavings)
New Mobil syn 0-40W - engine runs smooth...
Issue.. oil light and buzzer are intermittant, engine runs & sounds great.
Mechanic tells me coil packs can induce noise into electrical and cause nuisance warnings like this.
Rather tentative to drive with oil buzzer & light going on/off... Any way to ensure another trouble free 50K miles
Passat (B5) :: Noise From Suspension When Warm Outside
I have a 1998 1.8T with 76k. Lately I've been hearing noise from the suspension. It used to be only when it was warm outside, like something had expanded but now it's all of the time. I don't hear the noise with straight up and down motion of the suspension, i.e. speed bumps. But when slowing down or accelerating I can hear it and sometimes when I hit the right kind of bump, I can hear it. I'm not sure what it is. I've taken it to the dealer about two weeks ago but they couldn't hear it. This was back when it was only doing it during warm weather. I'm going to take it back again, now that it's making all the noise all of the time but I'd like some input so I can tell them where they should look.
View 3 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Low Oil Pressure Light On After Warm Up
oil light on after warm up. 15 psi at idle, 23 psi at 2500 rpm . will get as high as 28 psi at any rpm above 3500 but no higher. heard of the sludge problem so i added flush and changed oil using amsoil 5w40. this did not change the pressures. when i drained the oil , i poked a wire in the drain hole to try to see if i could drag some sludge out but there did not seem to be any there.
I am thinking the oil screen may be clogged with some harder deposits which would require removal of the oil pan.does this all sound reasonable and what kind of difficulty is the oil pan job. it looks rather tight. this is a 1999 passat 1.8 t with a/t.
One other thought: this vehicle just had a head job after a timing belt break. the valves were replaced etc. i wonder if that could have affected the chain driven oil pump?
