Passat (B6) :: Metallic Rattle From Front At Low Speed

Starter driving this morning and heard what one could describe as a metallic rattle from somewhere at the front end: like a stone tossed in a can. Stopped and did a brief visual inspection but did not see anything. Shifted to N and revved the engine all quiet. Started driving faster, the sound went away. Found some old threads about brake pads rattling. could that be it?

Elantra XD (2001-06) :: 2005 - Shaking / Rattle In The Front Underneath

My 2005 Elantra (what a beauty, cobalt blue) shakes, rattles in the front underneath, an obvious suspension problem. Was told 3 different things by 3 different mechanics. Bad shocks/struts, bad universal joint, bad tie rod.

When I go 50mph it rattles the worst, except for when you hit bumps, but mostly the ride is bumpy all the time. At 65mph, it's smooth. Also, the steering squeaks when car first starts up. Replaced belt, keep wd40 handy, but still does it. Steering strong and seems good otherwise.

Passat (B5) :: Front End Rattle / Clank Over Rough Road

Well this just started. I only really hear it over road cracks with the windows open. There's no clicking while turning, and I can't really call it a " clunk". That said, I'm assuming it's the infamous tie rod/control arm thing that was supposed to be solved by the time of the B5.5. Is it possible something just needs to be tightened?

Passat (B6) :: 2007 - Crunching / Rattle Sound From Front Right End?

I'm hearing a crunching/rattle sound from the front right end of my 2007 B6 Wagon, 3.6L, Auto, Sport Pkg, FWD w/ 45k miles. I'll try to characterize what I'm hearing and when I hear it...

In the morning, when I've driven less than 2-3 miles and I go over a speed bump (i creep over the bumps) I hear what sounds to be like an un-oiled/worn out spring like sound coming from the front right side of the car. I don't think I hear any other sort of noise at all while driving (or if I do, it's very faint and barely noticeable).

After I've driven 25 miles or so at highway speeds (at the end of my daily commute), when I'm around 25 mph (independent of accelerating / decelerating / applying brakes) I hear what sounds to be a metal on plastic-like loose wobbling rattle (great description, right??) coming from the front right end. It gets pretty loud. However, if I go over a speed bump after having driven a good distance...guess what...no "worn out spring sound", just the rattle @ 25mph.

The rattle sound definitely 'peaks' in loudness at 25mph. If I listen carefully, I can hear it at other speeds, but it is less noticeable. I don't feel like I hear it at all at 40+ mph. I'm pretty sure the rattle is rotationally dependent (e.g. the faster wheel turn, the higher frequency of the rattle).

My tires are worn pretty unevenly, so there is a very annoying wobble/hum at all speeds, but I don't think it has to do with the tires. So to recap, it sounds like a rusty spring when going over a speed bump when the car is 'cold'. After driving a long time, no rusty-spring sound going over speed bumps, but I hear a pretty significant rattle around 25mph.

Passat (B5) :: Clunk / Rattle In Front Right Wheel Area

2000 Passat Wagon, 4-motion, 116,000 miles. I have a clunk/rattle in the front right wheel, and the clunk manifests itself when I roll over a bump. I don't get the same noise from the left side.

For example, turning right into a parking lot and rolling over the curb creates a clunk that I do not hear from the left side. Rolling over a manhole cover - clunk.

I've had it in for several other non-related service visits, and have asked the tech's to diagnose. Most recently, I got sold a new steering rack to resolve the issue, but it did not.

Again - I just replaced the steering rack. The techs have eliminated ball-joints and control arms as the source.

Passat (B7) :: Rattle From Passenger Front Door Like Pebbles In Tin Can

My wife's 2012 VR6 developed an annoying buzzy rattle that, I believe, emanates somewhere from the front passenger side - either from around the glove compartment area closet to the firewall/A-pillar, or the door itself.

I took everything out and still cannot figure out where it's coming from; thought it was the puddle light being loose (and btw they are loose) - but that was not the source of the sound. Best I can describe it as a cross between pebbles in a tin can and small buzzer; and it happens only on rough roads.

Passat (B5) :: Front End Rattle Or Clanking Over Bumps And Cracks In The Road

I have this front end rattle or clanking. It happens over bumps and cracks in the road. The rattle seems to be more on the passengers side to under the middle of the car. The stats of my Wagon - lowered on Bilstien Sports/H&R springs. All The control arms have been replaced back in 04 and maybe 40k miles ago. Drive axles were replaced once a long time ago, before it was lowered.

Passat (B7) :: 2013 - Metallic Rattle On Driver Side Front Wheel Area At Low Speeds Only?

After driving our 2013 Passat for 215 miles, we noticed that there was a rattling noise coming from the left front wheel area but only at slow speeds (under 10 mph). The noise disappeared at higher speeds. Today, we took the car to the dealership but they could not find anything wrong.

Passat (B5) :: 2001 - Passenger Front Window Go Down Automatically

When I startup my Passat, sometimes the passenger front window will go down automatically, then neither driver/passenger window switch will bring it up. Only goes up if I lock car from outside with key. Tried to (temporarily) remove fuse for power windows so I can drive to work (it's cold), removed fuse, windows did not operate, but car would not start.

Passat (B5) :: 2001 - Vibrating Noise From Front Suspension When Drive

I replaced the front brake pads of my 2001 B5 Passat with the PBR metal master brake pads. Recently, I've been getting a vibrating noise from my front suspension when I drive. The noise is like something is about to fall apart. After checking it out at the local dealership, the service advisor told me that the brake pads didn't have any clamps to secure it thus causing the ticking noise. He said I need to get the OEM brake pads. I know that PBR is not the OEM brake pads, but I thought no brake pads come with a clamp like he is describing. He insist that the OEM brake pads do. I checked the brake pads that I replaced and they were Akebonos.

My questions are:

1. What clamp is he talking about?
2. Is the clamp something that comes with the brake pads or a separate part that I have to get somewhere else?

Passat (B5) :: 2001 - Unknown Vibration After Front Axle Replacement?

I have a 2001 b5.5 passat sedan i recently picked up for cheap. The car was on cut springs and blown struts. I just installed JOM blue Line coilovers on it to solve the suspension problem. While i was doing this i realized both the cv boots were torn and needed replacing. I replaced the axles. The passat is a 1.8t with tip tronic trans. After i did the axles when i put the car in drive and let it idle i get a fairly noticeable vibration through out the car. It does not happen while driving or while in neutral. This did not happen before i did the axles. It doesnt make much sense to me?

Passat (B5) :: 2001 - Clattering Noise On Passenger Side Front

I have a 2001 Passat that I love. I have taken it to a VW dealer as well as two other dealers to try to diagnose this 'noise' problem. It is a noise that comes and goes, and seems to increase after driver fifteen to twenty miles after start. They thought it was the underneath engine cover but it is now back again. It sounds like a rattle when it is bad, also the passenger can feel the vibration under their feet. It rattles from 3 mph to 35 mph approximately. Can even hear it when coming to a stop.

Golf/GTI VII :: 2015 - Front End Rattle Over Bumps

My 2015 GTI is making rattling noises over small bumps. It sounds like a loose ball joint or tie rod end. I had the sway bar link recall work done. It's definitely a loose metal part rattle. My dealer can't look at it until next Tuesday.

Honda - Pilot :: Rattle / Knock In Front End

Our 2003 Honda Pilot with 130K miles recently developed a front end Knock/rattle, which is sustained at about 70 miles per hour. Dealer "couldn't hear the noise". Tried new tires per dealer suggestion- fail! Recently we towed our 2100 lb pop up with it, and it was MUCH louder, and of course sustained at lower speed. Should we even be towing a pop up with a vehicle that has this many miles on it?

Honda - Pilot :: Low Sounding Rattle In The Front End

Over the past few months I have been hearing a low sounding vibration that seems to be coming from the drivers side front. It only seems to happen when I am driving on a straight road, but not on the highway. Recently, I have been hearing the sound more frequently and within the last month the front end has been shaking. I took it to a mechanic and he told me that the front sway bar links were broken and the rotors were warped. He said replacing both of these (and the front brake pads) would eliminate both problems. $700 later and not 5 minutes down the road, the low sounding vibration came back! I've been paying attention to when I hear it and it happens on a straight road just as I am approaching 40 mph.
