Passat (B5) :: 1999 - Front Motor Mount Missing - Crank But Won't Turn Over?
My 99 Passat 1.8t broke down on me last night... my front motor mount is missing and my motor snaps back from time to time but last night i think it went back all more than normal and as soon as it snapped back the motor cut off and won't turn over... it will crank and crank but not turn over. i looked for any loose wires or anything possible that could be out of place and couldn't really see anything out of the ordinary... There are 3 sensors right next to the power steering reservoir that aren't connected but don't look like they were connected, need to identify those sensors.
View 2 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 1998 - Check Engine Light On And Car Started Missing
Lets start at the beginning. About two weeks ago my girlfriend got a check engine light and the car started missing( 98 Passat 1.8T, 5 speed). Checked obvious things like fuel delivery-good. Pulled coil packs and had no spark on #2 cyl. Investigated more and found one of the pins on the ign. control module was shorted. Felt pretty sure that was the problem since everything else checked out. Ordered a Huco installed it and that fixed the problem except the car seemed slow reprogramming to the new part. I disconnected the battery to clear the memory and that seemed to do the trick.
About 2 weeks later my GF is coming home and fortunately it died in front of the apartment. Checked everything again. Getting fuel, no wires shorted on ign. or fuel harness plus they all get power just no signal when checking with an LED tester. Ign. module was good also. Checked speed sensor for resistance per the book it was good. Tried a new Camshaft Pos. Sensor hoping that was the problem, no luck. I believe it must be the computer. I'm trying to get one from a salvage yard. I don't know if the old computer can be reprogrammed or not. Also was wondering if the dealer(where I really do not want to go) can test the computer somehow and tell me if it is bad or not(don't know if I would trust them anyway), just wanted to include that option.
Passat (B6) :: Reversing The Tiptronic Shifting?
I would like a down push to be gear up and vice versa.
View 4 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Tiptronic Shifter Would Not Work
I have a '98 1.8t and my tiptronic shifter would not work so I did some research and found out about the magnets usually fall off inside the console. Sure enough, mine had fallen off. I glued it back on and my tip still will not work. When i slide the shifter over nothing happens, it just stays in automatic.
I was wondering if there was another switch somewhere or something inside the transmission that just doesn't work anymore.
Passat (B5) :: Tiptronic Quit Working
Tiptronic quit working? It is fine in automatic mode but it wont switch to tiptronic.
View 2 RepliesPassat (B6) :: Tiptronic Bucking / Clunking When Coasting Around 40 - 45 Mph
Still relatively new to this car and VWs in general. I have a 2.0T sedan with 39,500 miles. I've noticed this just about every time I slow to around 40mph and then accelerate again. It's like the car can't figure out what gear it wants to be in. I don't mess around with sport mode and rarely shift manually. No real problems accelerating, just a weird shimmy when coasting from say 50mph down to 40mph and then another clunk when I accelerate again.

View 2 RepliesPassat (B6) :: Tiptronic Modes Cuts Throttle?
I was driving in tip yesterday and some of time that 3-2 downshift is choppy b/c revs dont match. So i tried a modified heel-toe, timing it so that i pressed the gas while the engine was disengaged i got a little rpm boost but then nothing as if during the shift the throttle was cut. is this possibly a safety feature to prevent unnecessary wear? or is it just not possible with a tip?

View 12 RepliesPassat (B5) :: V6 Tiptronic - Momentary Loss Of Power
2001.5 V6 Tiptronic ... A few times in the last couple of months I've felt what I think is a quick lapse in power, like 1 sec. or less. I say "think" because sometimes a bump in the road, traction related, or some other perceived issue can feel strange, especially when cruising along on a smooth cruise-controlled drive.
Each time this has occurred I've been in cruise control, freeway driving, relatively low speeds (65 MPH) . No other signs of anything wrong, chimes, flickering lights, vibration, nothing.
I can't be sure this time around but it seems in the past it's been on the same stretch of freeway, perhaps the same spot. In other words perhaps just a subtle anomaly in the road ...
Passat (B6) :: Tiptronic Jolt After Highway Driving
Had my transmission software updated today with the 20,000 service. Will give it a test tomorrow and we'll see if the "jolt" is fixed.
View 7 RepliesPassat (B5) :: 1999 Won't Engage In Tiptronic Mode
I am having problems with the car disengaging from park even with the brake depressed, so I decide to remove the shifter cover and will doing that i lost/broke the cover strip and magnets so now my tiptronic will not engage. Where I can get them from and what could cause the shifter to lock up in park. It releases after a while but you have to depress and release the brake pedal and pull on the shifter at the same time.

I have a 01 b5.5 Passat. When I'm in tiptronic and I'm about to hit 3000 rpms, a really off noise goes off and it's like a grinding sound.... Like when your car doesn't want to go to the next gear!
View 1 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Tiptronic Just Stopped Working / Transmission Won't Shifting?
Today when i started driving my car this morning the tiptronic just stopped working....I can shift into the manual column, but when I try to change gears, it just does nothing. I can't even tell if it works intermittently. It shifted up when i was trying to shift down in a few cases. When this would happen, the gear numbers would still pop up on the dash to tell me what gear i was in. Sometimes when I slide it into the manual column, it just remains in "auto mode" if you wil entirely.
The numbers don't pop up on the dash signaling manual mode, and trying to shift does nothing. I even had one moment where it was in "manual mode" when the selector was actually still in the automatic mode. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason. Sometimes it goes into manual but just wont shift, and sometimes it wont even switch to manual mode. What would cause this? It seems like such an odd problem, I would assume it's electrical...
Passat (B5) :: 2004 1.8T Tiptronic - Brake Warning Message On The Cluster
On 2004 Passat 1.8T Tiptronic that I am daily-driving these days, I recently had this message displayed on the cluster:
Along with this, I had "Beep beep beep" repeated over and over, and E-brake light (!) blinking at the same time. I scanned the car but VAG-COM (latest version) couldn't find any DTC, so I inspected the car and found the rear brake pad was rather thin (but not all the way down yet). Since it looks overdue, I am going to replace the rear brake pad, but looking for more info about this particular warning.
Passat (B5) :: V6 Tiptronic Function Is No Longer Working / Transmission Continues To Stay In D
I have a 99 V6 B5 sedan & the tiptronic function is no longer working but the transmission works fine. When you place the transmission in tiptronic mode the transmission continues to stay in D. Is there a possibility that there is a faulty relay or some electrical malfunction?
View 2 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Tiptronic - Display Remains On Automatic And Shifting Up And Down Will Not Change Tranny Gear
My 99 V6 with Tip just started to malfunction this past weekend. By malfunction, I mean when I shift over into Tip mode, the display remains on automatic and even shifting up and down will not change the tranny gear.
I was driving with the cruise on and shifted into Tip mode to slow down for a toll booth ( slow to 25 and not stop all the way). When I got through the booth, I hit resume on the cruise forgetting I had shifted into tip and the car revved back up to 65 mph in 3rd gear for about 5 seconds ( I had the stereo cranking and couldn't hear the engine)before I realized what I had done.
I tried to upshift in Tip but it wouldn't let me so I had to go back to full auto setting where it works fine.
Is it possible to burn out a fuse or circuit of some kind by doing a dipshizit maneuver like that? The car runs great otherwise and still is getting low to mid 20's mpg in spite of the ethanol crap.
BTW, just had the computer reflashed last week after putting a new battery in because the Throttle Body was not working properly.
Passat (B5) :: 2000 Tiptronic Transmission - Hard Time To Start Driving In Cold
I just got a 2000 passat wagon with a 1.8t and tiptronic transmission. The questions is when it is cold the transmission has a hard time to start driving. But as soon as it is warm it drives great. It is throwing a check engine code havent checked it yet.
View 9 RepliesCamry :: 1994 - Missing / Motor Died / No Spark
94 Camry, 4 cylinder. 204,000 miles. New fuel pump last year. Timing belt replaced 30K ago. Plugs and plug wires, as well as distributor cap and rotor, about 2 years old. New ignition coil about 300 miles ago. Generally very well maintained and in good shape. Today it died on the NJ Turnpike, 200 miles from home; started missing and it got progressively worse over the span of about 30 seconds to the point that the motor died. Towed to local Pep Boys (I know, but it was the only choice on a Saturday and I don't know the local area).
Mechanic says no spark but was unable to fix it. As things now stand the nearest Toyota dealer is scheduled to move the car to their shop on Monday. All the dash lights come on, including chimes and such. It will crank like a champ but will not fire up. I know this isn't giving you all much to go on, but I'm wondering if what happened could be related to the coil. Is it likely to have failed? Would replacing an old coil cause anything else to break down in the distributor?
