Passat (B5) :: Area Under The Hood Filled-up With Water
I noticed that I was leaving a trail of water as pulled into the driveway. I thought it might be coolant, but it turns-out that an area under the hood had filled-up with water. It was the area right in front of the windshield, holding the battery. There was a pool of water there, as wide as the car, and about 6 inches deep! It came right up to the brake fluid reservoir. I assume that there's a drain hose from this area somewhere that's plugged?

Passat (B5) :: Water Leak In Passenger Side Floor
My only car is a 2002 passat 1.8 .
I've had a water leak in the passenger side floor. This started when my sound system was installed. So I've been dealing with it. Vacuuming out the water and driving. Recently A LOT of water leaked in. Now the car won't start and the doors won't lock. I read about this issue before. What to do. The dealer wants to charge me $210 just to look at it and hook it to a machine. Then if the issue runs me more than a few hundred. That's just over budget. I need to fix this issue.
Passat (B5) :: Water Seems To Pool On Rear Passenger Floor
So our Passat seems to have developed a leak from somewhere. Even while parked, water seems to pool on the rear passenger floor. The passenger front and driver's side front and rear are both dry. Does this sound like it could possibly be one of the sunroof drains being clogged? Only reason I'm skeptical is because the front floor is perfectly dry. I haven't pulled it up yet, but the rear floor is literally "squishy" with water.
Again this happens when the car is parked, so it doesn't seem like it has anything to do with the AC system. I'm unsure about the cabin air filter, because if that were the culprit I would think the front would be wet too.

I recently picked up an 03' GLX V6 4motion and noticed after it rains, the backseat floor (drivers side) is wet. Windows/sunroof are closed and I don't see any drips/water spots in the interior to make an educated guess as to where it's coming from. What would be the cause of this?

I have a 2004 Passat GLS and I've noticed from time to time (and again tonight) that there's water on the floor on the passenger side in the back row. There is a vent under that floor mat so I suspect it has something to do with it, but beyond that I'm stumped. I've only noticed standing water once, and that was after a heavy downpour. But tonight the mat is pretty wet and we haven't had rain for a while. I just dropped a ton of dough on new coils and plugs so I'm hoping this isn't anything serious.
View 12 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Water In Passenger Side Floor Board - Leaking Sunroof?
We have had 6-8 inches of rain in the last month. the last several days I have notice a lot of water in the passenger side floorboard as well as behind the seat. the headliner around the sunroof is also saturated on that side of the car. After several hours investigating and reading posts on this forum it is safe to say that the drain on that side is clogged. I am a new VW owner and am ignorant as to where the drains are at??? also, how to "rod" or unclog the drain line that runs down a or c pillar?

The crank seal was to be sent to the dealership, however, the tool to repair it will not be here for a week. VW said my car did not loose too much oil, so there should not be any serious damage.

View 3 RepliesSubaru - Outback :: 2002 - Rear Right Brake Light Housing Cracked And Filled Up With Water Shorting The Bulbs
I have a 2002 Subaru Outback. The rear right brake light housing cracked, and filled up with water, shorting the bulbs. I thought I was clever in taking the light unit off, draining the water, changing the bulbs, and caulking the crack with silicon. This worked for a while, then the battery died. I couldn't really figure out why - it was a year old, and had no prior issues starting the car. I swapped out the battery for a brand new one, and that seemed to solve the issue for a week. Then the car refused to start all over again. I remembered the brake light, checked it - filled again. So I replaced the unit and the pig electric line, and charge the battery. This seemed to solve the problem, but then the car failed to start after about 3 weeks.
One additional detail is the dial light switch on the driving shaft. One is able to turn this to adjust light settings. Regardless of position, the lights turn off when I turn off the car. However, failure to start seems to be additionally related to the position of this switch; if it's switched all the way back towards the driver the car appears to start consistently for weeks on end, BUT the tail lights fail to turn on in this position (though the brake lights work). Alternatively, dialing the switch all the way away from the driver turns on the tail lights, but seems to be related to battery drain.
I've checked the health of the battery and the contacts - everything checks out. At this point I'm wondering if it's an electrical fault or the alternator.
