Xb - Scion - Wheels :: Shaking Front End Around 70 - 80 Mph / Tires Not Balanced
I have a 2006 scion xb with 106000 miles. It has 17" custom wheels on it. When I test drove it I noticed some vibration up front and assumed the tires were not balanced good. I rotated the tires and noticed a slight difference but it still shakes around 70-80mph. I cant feel any vibration from the back of the car. Sometimes at 65 mph it's fine, other times it will shake. Since the shake isn't at 65 all the time, could my problem be worn out struts?
View 2 RepliesLexus SC430 :: Tires Went Flat When Car Parked In Garage
Several months ago one of my 20" toyo tires was flat when I came out of work. Being a high school teacher, I thought that perhaps it was a students involved situation. That came as a surprise in that as a teacher of over 37 years, nothing has ever happened to any of my vehicles, while parked at school. Also I found it strange that they would let air out and put the chrome valve cap back on. Well, over the weekend, the same thing happened, with the car parked in my garage. So in both instances the tires went flat, I filled them back up and they held air. This happened months apart.

'02 SC430 with just over 30K miles. She is wearing out the inside edges of the tires. We have had the car aligned twice in our one year ownership. Are these cars prone to this kind of wear and/or going out of alignment? Would this be a spring/shock/strut issue? I assume the original components are still on the car so maybe she just needs replacement parts due to age. She has low miles, but she is 11 years old now.

View 2 RepliesLexus SC430 :: Shaking Occur Anywhere Between 55 To 70 Mph
I thought I'd post an update about my front end shakes that I've been working on eliminating since I bought my SC. They used to occur anywhere between 55-70 mph. The remaining shake occurs around 65-70 mph. I should mention that when I added H&R 25mm wheel spacers in the back and 20mm spacers in the front. I had the shakes both before and after adding the spacers though. The following list is what I've done over the past couple of years to try to eliminate my shakes:
1) New tires - Bridgestone Potenza's, nice tires, better ride.
2) Replacement, chrome, OEM wheels. Look nice.
3) Road force balancing.
4) Steering rack was replaced with a rebuilt unit because the old one was leaking. Came with inner tie rods and I put on new outer tie rods at the same time. No change in shaking.
5) Daizen polyurethane lower control arm #2 bushings.
6) Daizen upper control arm and lower control arm bushings.
7) Daizen steering rack polyurethane bushings. Still not perfect, but this made a huge difference.
I did the steering rack bushings today. I've really, really developed a dislike for Lexus steering bushings!
Some background: I had issues with my '01 LS430 steering bushings @ 85K miles. My only choice was to replace them with OEM. I should have replaced them at 50K. They were really, really awful. The interesting thing, though, is that they physically looked pretty good. The result is amazing; nice and tight.
The bushing design of the SC is essentially the same as the LS. But luckily we have more choices with our steering rack bushings than the LS crowd. I began to hang around the GS guys because their front end is quite similar. The '98-'05 GS430 uses the same steering rack and bushings as our SC. Sewell sells both OEM and an aftermarket polyurethane solution for around $30 complete.
At this point my SC tracks very, very well. The polyurethane suspension bushings probably add a bit of harshness to my ride but I don't find it objectionable and it's a reasonable tradeoff for the added precision in the front end. I don't believe that the polyurethane steering rack bushings have any tradeoffs at all. The remaining shake that I'm experiencing is pretty darn subtle but I'm not done. I'm going to rotate the tires tomorrow and see if anything changes. I'm also looking at toe in. My front tire wear tells me that I don't have enough. I've been running factory settings but I'm going to experiment with a bit more toe due to the additional road forces created by the wheel spacers. I don't give up easily!
Lexus ES 2007-12 :: New Tires Will Not Balance - Steering Wheel Shaking At 75 To 82 Mph
I had a balancing problem with some tires I bought with the car. At about 80 they shook and hard enough to not want to drive at that speed. I replaced them with Falken tires and it was so much better, but......
At 75-82 mph I still have a shake in the steering wheel. I bought the tires from Discount and they claim the rim is bent and they cannot completely balance the tire. I am going back once more to get a definitive response.
I am at a loss at what to do next. My other Lexus was smooth at any speed, even at 90. Smooth. 2007 Lexus es350
Lexus SC430 :: 2002 - Shaking Slightly When Idling At Traffic Lights
My high mileage 2002 SC430 seems to shake very slightly when I the car is idling at traffic lights (both when it is warm and when it is cold). The shaking is very very slight but it is noticeable. The shaking does not occur if the air conditioning is running or when the car is moving. The check engine light is not on.
The previous owner did mention that the alternator may need to be replaced eventually, but I don't know if this could be related.
Lexus ES 2007-12 :: Bubble In One Of The Front Tires
I just discovered a bubble on the sidewall in on of my wife's front tires. I am pretty sure I will need to replace it with a new one. However, the other three tires have about 15k miles on it. Should I replace the other front tire and have two new tires in the front or maybe the back instead of just one? Do most people in my situation replace just the bad tire or both?

View 2 RepliesLexus GS 2006-11 :: Front Tires Cupping After 5000 Miles?
I had my car drop for a while now on megan ez coilover. Before I bought my new set of wheels, I drove the car with the OEM wheels and they never had any cupping issues. Then after I bought my AME Shallen with 20mm hub centric H&R spacers on Nankang NS, and then they started cupping on the front inside tires after 5000 miles. I had the alignment done and only had the toe adjusted.(don't have camber kit) At first i thought it was the spacers causing the issue, but then I bought Orden's with new Nankang NS and had the toe adjusted to spec's again. Camber is at -3 BTW. Recently i started hearing the same road noise so I inspected the tires and found it was cupping in the front again! I also checked the front end of any damage or worn out bushing and couldn't find any signs of damage. I always keep my tires at 40psi, torque them down evenly, and I'm using hub centric rings. My questions is do you think is the Nankang tires or do I have a suspension problem?

Lexus SC430 :: Water At The Front Of The Trunk - No Leakage
I am getting water at the very front of the trunk, nearest the passenger compartment. Might be the drains in that vicinity that might be plugged causing an overflow there .Rest of the trunk is dry. The only wet area is immediately underneath the pull-out "shade" thing that has to be in place for the top to operate. Some indication that the water is coming from above that, since it is wet also.

So the problem is that when I turn fairly sharp I can feel the front tires grabbing and slipping a bit, especially on wet roads. I have the car at the dealership for the first scheduled maintenance and asked them to look at that. I know that 4wd vehicles can do this grab and slip because the tires rotate differently when engaged and turning tightly. The issue is that I never felt this in my EVO at all.

Lexus SC430 :: Air Conditioner Not Working - No Cold Air From Front Vents
Car sat there for 2 days non driven. Started it up, turned on the AC and it wouldn't blow through the front vents no matter what "mode" I select whether its on vents or legs. Instead it only blows through the windshield ones for the windshield. And it is also blowing outside air or maybe hot air, regardless what temperature I select and with the "AC" button on.
Before when I would press the "AC" button while the air was running I can hear a compressor or some clicking sound which is normal but now there's no sound when I press that and no sound when "mode" is changed.
What I've tried:
All fuses, all are good.
AC relay (good).
Disconnect the battery for 10 min, reconnect. Nothing.
Repair manual suggested action where it displays some codes. (I failed to link those codes to a proper definition in the manual)
Its been 90+ degree here in CA. I cant drive this car without AC.
