Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Power Steering Fluid Leak Coming From Transfer Line
I am a new owner of a 2004 F-150 FX4. Bought the truck with a leaking power steering and I have isolated the root cause of the leak. It is coming from the "transfer line" attached to the center of the rack. The top portion has simply rotted through. I have searched the forum and google for about a week and only found one thread where someone actually asked about replacing the hard line on the rack. Unfortunately, no one chimed in with a part source and all my searches only come up with a HP line or Return line....no hard transfer line leading from the rack to the gear box.
View 7 RepliesGrand Prix :: 99 GTP / Power Steering Pressure Hose?
Just replaced power steering pressure hose while engine out as PM. New hose wasn't correct shape so I bent the tubing to fit. I later realized that I bought a hose for power steering without variable assist and the hose for variable assist looks correct.
Is there any harm in leaving the "w/o variable assist" hose in now?
Grand Prix :: 1997 GTP - Leaking Fuel Line In Engine Bay
I am a proud owner of '97 Grand Prix GTP, it has always been a great car with really low maintenance for me. A few days ago I noticed a mild fuel smell and I checked the gas cap, the external fuel filter, etc... Then I lifted the hood and I saw that one of the two fuel lines that run between the firewall and the brake fluid reservoir had a seepage leak in front of the factory loom that secures both lines before going over the supercharger and on to the fuel rail. A fuel leak needs to be repaired immediately, so this is where I am so far.
I noticed that the leaking fuel line is actual a rubber/plastic fuel hose that is covered by a plastic heat proof cover that protects the hose. It runs from the firewall to the fuel rail along side another fuel line of the same size (a supply & return line I believe). Just before going over the supercharger they both have quick connect metal ends that meet two metal fuel lines that end up at the fuel rail. My current issue is that this plastic/rubber hose section of fuel line is discontinued and no longer available to order according to my local GM parts dealer. The way I see it, hunting down this part can be Plan A and Plan B can be duplicating this hose by making it with high pressure fuel injection hoses and the appropriate quick connect fittings.
Grand Prix :: 1998 GT - No Power Going To Radio / Sunroof / Steering Wheel Controls Or Power Windows In Fuse Panel
I have a 98 gp gt. I have no power going to the radio, sunroof, steering wheel controls, or power windows in the fuse panel I have virtually ripped this car apart and still no clue why I'm not getting power.
View 3 RepliesGrand Prix :: 2000 GTP No Pressure In Fuel Line - Click Or Clunk Noise In Gas Tank
It is the 2000 GTP 2 door. It is my sons car and is dead in front of my house. Changed the fuel filter as it is cheap to do. At the check valve there is no pressure in the fuel line. I turned it over with the hose off the filter it did not pump any fuel. I do hear a click or clunk in the gas tank when I turn it over suggesting it is getting power into the pump.
I almost went and bought a pump but do not really want to put the $230 + tax down without checking the resistor after reading around the net.
Grand Prix :: 99 - Fluid Under Right Side Of Car In Parking Lot
Last weekend, I saw fluid under the right side of the car when in a parking lot and found a rather large puddle of almost clear, oily fluid on the garage floor when I got home. I figured it was power steering fluid. I just finished a rebuild a couple months ago but the old power steering pump wasn't changed, so I was guessing a leaky hose or seal.
I quit driving the vehicle. A much smaller puddle, barely more than a spot, appeared. But it was much nearer the front of the vehicle than the PS pump. And the PS pump fluid level is still full.
Not much evidence of dripping fluid in the engine compartment. Is it possible that the new motor mount installed just a few months ago cracked and leaked its fluid already? Don't know how I could verify that without removing the mount. I'm at a loss for the source of the fluid.
Caravan/Voyager :: Power Steering Pump Not In Line 2000 Grand 3.3?
I had a VERY bad leak, to the point where I would fill it, an hour later it all leaked out. I had a mechanic work on it, and he rebuilt the PS pump, BUT the pulley was cracked, they DON'T make that size anymore. He put a bigger one on, only to find out, it was rubbing on my brake lines so I couldn't drive it! SO I had another grease monkey work on it, went through a few new pulley's FINALLY found one! BUT went through 4 Serpentine belts!!
After 3 months with NO VEHICLE, we finally got it all back together. BUT now it is not all lining up we couldn't tell until we had the belt on. it is about a 1/4 of an inch to much to the right.
I'm thinking maybe washers or spacers would work?
Grand Prix :: 2001 SE 3.1 - Brake Pedal Goes To Floor / Fluid Low
I have a 2001 Grand Prix SE 3.1 that the brake pedal goes to the floor. I did notice the fluid was low , filled it up. I do not think it sucked air, although I can not be sure of that. As you can imagine, it is a beater so don't want to stick a ton of money in it. I had someone look at it that said he thought it was a "sensor" that would cost over 500 bucks. I don't know of any brake sensors at all. If there is, do they cost that much? If not would this be a master cylinder.
View 5 RepliesPontiac :: 1991 Grand Prix - Transmission Fluid In Engine Oil
I have a 91 pontiac Grand Prix with a 3.1 and the car has NO leaks, however, I have noticed that the transmission fluid level go down and the engine oil goes up. My conclusion is that some how the tranny fluid is crossing over to the engine, is this possible? and if it is, how or where?
NOTE: my car has a tranny cooling line to the radiator but no engine oil cooling lines and the colant is clean. how is it possible?
Camry :: 08 / Power Steering Fluid Level Was At Upper Line For Hot About 3 Hours?
I recently was looking over fluids and whatnot in my 08 Camry, and the power steering fluid level was at the upper line for hot about 3 hours after I drove it (about 7pm). Checked again at noon the next day, still didn't budge. I know this is something fairly new, earlier in the year it was normal. The steering feels a little tough too. It might be me, I've been driving a 2011 Sienna with the EPS, but I don't remember it being this resistant.
Now the car has over 43k on it, and it recently had the water pump replaced about two months ago put in the the dealer (I noticed this, not the dealer), along with front struts and an oil change. Nothing mentioned about the Power Steering or anything, but it seems abnormally high. I am not sure if any of the PS lines had to be removed to do the job (water pump or struts), but if it was, it seems that it might have not been properly bleed. I did try turning to full lock a few times, to the point where the revs drop and it squeals a little (not sure if that is a pump issue either, not the drop in revs but the noise)
I am just trying to figure out why I have a high level of fluid now, and the power steering feels a little weak.
Grand Prix :: 97 GTP - Loud Groaning Noises From Steering System Under The Hood
I have a 97 Grand Prix GTP with 191,000+ miles. For the past couple of months, I have had a loud groaning sound coming from somewhere under the hood when I steer the car in either direction. This groaning is most noticeable at idle or very low speeds and when the car is first started up in the morning. It seems to get less noticeable at higher speeds and after the car has warmed up a while. Over the past few days, at idle/low speed and when cold, there is now more resistance when steering in either direction. Power steering pump or rack and pinion? (Hoping this is more PS pump than rack and pinion). The rack and pinion was replaced in 2009.

I have an 06 grand Prix, about a month ago I started hearing a knock on the front driver side n it has gotten worst. At first I thought it could be a hub bearing or tire rod ends but I noticed service abs and traction system lights are on.
View 4 RepliesFord Super Duty (1999-2016) :: Power Steering Cooler Line Blown / Loss Of Fluid
I blew a power steering cooler line yesterday and lost a bit of fluid. Removed and replaced the line, consequently losing most of the fluid in the system (during line replacement). Re-filled the system and now i have great power steering when driving but none at idle. If I bring my RPMs up about 150-200. I get it back in full force. Could my PS pump be on the way out or might this just be air in the system?
View 3 RepliesSilverado :: 2001 Chevy Transmission Line Pull Out Of Radiator And Blow Fluid All Over Everything
A friend just had a transmission line pull out of his radiator and blow fluid all over everything.
How do these lines work? Are the kind of like the fuel lines that just plug in and are held in my a retainer clip?
Does the whole radiator have to be changed to fix it or can the "fitting" be turned out of the radiator and replaced?
Looking at the line that is still in the radiator, the fitting looks like a large hex nut at the radiator with a thick rubber washer on the outside.
Grand Prix :: 1998 - AC Just Stopped Working / No Power To Relay
I have a 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and the AC just stopped working. The fan blows but i don't get any cold air. I have noticed the AC clutch plate does not move and the relay does not click when the ac is toggled. Long story short, I think I need a wiring diagram for the AC. Here is what I have checked/ruled out so far.
1. When I toggle the AC, the AC clutch relay does not click so i assume there is no power getting to the relay. (I have recently had other wiring issues so I'm guessing its the same case)
2. I swapped the AC clutch relay with the fog lap relay (they are the exact same relay) and the fog laps still worked so i know its not the relay.
3. I have checked the AC fuse and that is fine.
Grand Prix :: Sluggish Acceleration And Little Power - Car Rough Idling
I have encountered a problem with my car engine. I noticed the car was not putting out enough power. When I press on the gas pedal aka accelerator the car drives real slow or sluggish; it seems like there's something clogged. I recently replaced the alternator which was draining the car battery. Since then the car starts up without any problem. I assumed its the EGR valve. The original EGR valve was quite carboned up but the used one from the junk yard didn't do much justice to the problem.
Additionally, the car is rough idling which I believe was due to bad gasoline.
Catalytic converter was struck by curb and heat shield was damage. Everything seems to be intact!

Grand Prix :: 2004 - Loud Clunk While Having The Car In Reverse And Power Braking It
In my 2004 Comp G I have an extremely loud clunk when braking. The braking clunk does not happen all the time. There is a clunk while having the car in reverse and power braking it. While holding down the brake and revving hard and fast it make the loud clunk every time. It will not do it all the time in drive though. I can not pin point which side it is coming from. It sounds as if it is mostly the right. It almost sounds as if it is coming from inside the trans near the pan area?
I have replaced the lower control arms, sway bar bushings, stab links, struts & mounts, I have solid engine and trans and top mounts, new inner and outer tie rods, all wheel bearings, etc.... (not for this issue, just for performance/wear).
I am torn between thinking it is a cv axle or internal drive train noise.
Grand Prix :: 1995 Suddenly Lose Power While Driving And Die Completely
My daughter has a 1995 Grand Prix - 3.1. The car has an intermittent problem that can go 2-3 weeks in between occurrences.
It runs like a top, but will suddenly lose power while driving and die completely. After a while it'll be fine. (starts up again.)
The lights will flicker and give a bit of warning before it dies. I had both crankshaft sensors replaced a month ago and I though that would do the trick.
Grand Prix :: Reduced Engine Power Warning - Traction Control Lights Comes On
This has happened to me twice now, 2 weeks between occurrences:
Driving to work, about 10 minutes into the trip - traction control light comes on, "Reduced engine power" message appears on DIC, and check engine light comes on.
The car is an '08 Prix, no charger, with 51K on it. This is actually the first trouble I've had with the car since it left the dealer lot.
I pull over, turn car off. Turn back on - traction light goes out, and engine is running at full power. The check engine light remains on for about 5 starts/stops then goes away.
I haven't had the engine scanned yet. The only thread here I could find recommended replacing the throttle body. The person decided to clean the throttle body, and that was the last post.
I was thinking of removing the individual electronic components from the TB and cleaning them and the area around them in the TB. (I have the sensor-safe cleaner for TB's).
I don't think this error condition would be a warranty issue, but I'm not sure. It's a MAJOR hassle for me to get the car to the dealer.
