Golf/GTI VII :: Got Message About ECS Is Stationary And Engine Idling?
SO this morning I let the car idle for aprox, 5 to 10 min. its was a bit cold so figure I warm it up a bit. As soon as I pulled from the driveway a msg came up on the cluster. I only got a glimpse but it said ECS is stationary and about engine idling. I was told ECS stands for Emission Control System. If thats true or not Idk. I did look on my owners manual and found nothing on it. I checked the car status and everything seems to be ok. Car also drives normal.
View 5 RepliesGolf/GTI VII :: Strange Noise When Accelerating?
I'm trying to figure out this noise I'm hearing whenever I accelerate. I can't tell if it's the turbo or something else. It doesn't have the smooth turbo spool sound like my mk4 GTI so I'm wondering if something is wrong or this is just how the car is....
It sounds like some kind of air induction but a little clangy at the same time. I'd try to record it but I don't think my iphone would pick it up.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Engine / Boost Complication After Stationary
I got a Mk7 in October and my Mk4 has unfortunately been parked since. I started it and let it idle to warm once a week or so when I went on Vacation for 10 days. Before going on vacation I moved the car and after warming up everything seemed to be normal. Unfortunately I neglected it once I got back and haven't started it since the beginning of December. I'm selling it here soon and so went out to spruce her up tonight and upon trying to start the battery was dead so a buddy came over and jumped it.
It started right up but immediately was idling funny which I assumed was because of the cold (it's 25 degrees F tonight and has gotten in the negatives in the past few weeks due to snow storms). I shut it down and checked the fluids which were all pretty low especially the oil due to a small leak. So I topped off the all the fluids and started it again and let it idle to full warm.
I decided to take it for a drive around the block and it was still driving pretty rough, no knocking or anything but the engine was "sputtering" and the CEL was on and flashed when I gave it gas. I'm running stock boost so my gauge usually reads around 12psi but is now only going up to 3-5 psi and the vacuum is only at -15 which i think used to idle at -20. I drove it to the gas station and filled it up from a little less than a half tank but it's still running the same and there's a slight burning smell from the exhaust.
I was worried it was my turbo but it was perfectly fine a month ago. I was thinking of throwing some Seafoam or Heat.
Golf IV R32 :: Strange Choppy Noise From Motor
The R has 48K miles on it. The other day i realized after driving it, a choppy noise coming from almost directly under the spark plugs. As the car was cooling down while still on the noise stopped for a few seconds and then started again. Any clue of what this might be?
View 2 RepliesGolf IV R32 :: Strange Noise Continues Even When Car Is Stopped
So as I was driving my R32 home today, and as I came to a stop, it let out a crazy groan/noise.. It continued even as I was stopped. At first I thought it was the brakes just making noise since it was raining. The pitch of the sound was much different than a brake squeal too..
The only thing I can think of is I parked overnight under a carport, which that and the driveway is a decently steep grade.. Maybe its e-brake related? However I just changed my e brake cables.
The car drives great still. I drove 60 miles then it made that noise. Also I checked on a dirt road to see if my haldex was still working.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Car Was Making A Strange Noise
So for the past few months my car was making a strange noise under my car, it turned out it was the dogbone bolt that stretches to the bottom part of the transmission. Some how it got loose and was literally hitting my transmission. So we tried bolting it back on and won't screw which was kind of scary it had some type of play. Do I have to get a new 02m for a little ass bolt, do I weld it, or is there a subframe piece I can buy to replace the Broken part of the transmission.

Golf/GTI VII :: Strange Noise Coming Intermittently
Just bought a '15 Golf TSI S/sunroof with the 5MT (night blue, for the curious). Anyway, I've been getting a strange noise that was not present on the test drives, but that I first heard driving home from the dealer about a week ago. Since then it has happened intermittently, and not reliably enough that I've brought it back to inquire about. It is hard to describe, but sounds something like a whir and whine together. Typically it starts when I am in gear -- 4th, usually, though I can't figure why that would matter -- and then take my foot off the gas. If, however, I put the clutch in or put my foot back on the gas, it won't stop right away. It does stop when the car comes to a full stop. I'm beginning to suspect that it happens more when the car and/or the day is very hot. The times I've heard it most often, it has been over 90* outside, and the car has been driven for at least about 10 minutes.
I drove around for 25 minutes this morning and it finally did it, so I hit the sound recorder on my iPad. For reference, this morning it was about 81* out.
Here's a video link to it. It occurs at the 1:13 mark, if you want to skip ahead, but it's pretty faint over the background hum. The sound is clearer on the actual recording when I play it back on my iPad. [URL]........................................
Golf VI R :: Strange Noticeable Noise When Go Into Reverse
So most noticeable is when i go into reverse. Initially it makes a loud clunking noise until the car begins moving then it stops ( sounds to come from right under the middle of the car, middle/front). Nothing like this in 1st from a slow start. But Another different noise between first and second when accelerating hard.
As I go to shift from first to second there's another louder clunk in between shifts. It almost sounds as if my seat wasn't bolted down tight and was moving. But definitely coming from under the car again, same spot...I just had a 42DD downpipe installed.
Golf VI R :: Strange Noise When Parking In Reverse
Canadian 2012 golf R. Build date 02/2012. 8500km ... Clutch sounds and feels weird since the beginning. But few weeks ago I started to hear a strange noise when parking in reverse. When stopped, clutch pressed, reverse engaged, then slip the clutch to move slowly and I'm hearing a buuuuuu noise for 2 or 3 seconds then stop.
When stopped, no gear, clutch pressed for few seconds then release : clac and like a grinding noise. Press clutch again, after maybe 1 second, the grinding stops. Also when driving normally at low speed, I notice the clutch is very noisy, looks like same grinding noise.
When I let the clutch slip a little bit to start moving from a stop, I feel a vibration. not only in the pedal but also in the car. The passenger can feel that.
Here is two quick videos ...
You will notice the "buuuuuuu" noise and also the grinding.
Golf IV R32 :: Strange Gurgling Noise From Gas Tank Area?
When I parked my car in the garage this evening, I noticed a definite "gurgling" noise and my first thought was that it was most likely coming from the coolant reservoir (even though it was cool outside and I wasn't driving hard at all before parking it). However, when I checked under the hood, it was obvious that the sound was not coming from that location (and the coolant looked OK/normal).
I followed the sound to the back of the car and it definitely seemed to be coming from the right (passenger) side rear area of the car (possibly the gas tank). I removed the gas cap but there was no pressure built up and the noise continued -- I also checked under the car and nothing was leaking anywhere and there was no odor of gasoline.
So, when I searched the R32 FAQ, the only thing that sounded close was that possibly is was the leak detection pump cycling; but the FAQ made no mention of a gurgling noise and there was none of the clicking (or any other sound along with this gurgling) that seems typical of the leak detection system.
There is the possibility that the car could have made this sound in the past but it was pretty obvious to me this time so I think I would have noticed it if it had occurred previously. One other note, I did fill the gas tank during the drive right before I parked it and heard this noise, but I drove probably 12 miles (including twice turning off the motor) between the gas fill-up and parking it in my garage.
Golf VI R :: APR Stage 1+ / Strange Noise Under Heavy Acceleration
I just went APR Stage 1+ (APR hpfp plus VWR intake) and am loving the noticeable power gain from Stage 1. But under hard acceleration I'm getting a strange noise (sounds like wheelspin or tire screech and sounds like it's coming from the front tires) when I disengage the clutch to shift at higher (5K+) rpms. It is not metallic sounding (it sounds like burning rubber) and lasts for a split second then goes away.
For those of you who've had tuned GTIs, it essentially sounds like what my Stage 1 GTI sounded like when too much torque was going to the front wheels and I spun my wheels before I got traction.
It doesn't happen as I re-engage the clutch and it doesn't happen any other time (quick but not WOT acceleration or normal driving). It also didn't happen under hard acceleration before I went from Stage 1 to Stage 1+. Furthermore, I'm not having any issues with difficulty shifting or engaging gears at any time. My R is 1 month old and has ~1K miles.
I've searched the clutch/transmission troubles thread, and other threads, but haven't come across other sounds/symptoms that seem similar.
At first I was thinking it was just a split second of wheelspin from too much torque as the AWD kicked in, but that doesn't seem to make sense (or does it?) since it only happens when I'm disengaging the clutch. Any thoughts before I start thinking the worst?
Golf IV R32 :: Strange Ticking Noise Coming From Engine Bay
About a two weeks ago, I had a CEL pop up. I brought it in to the stealership to get it scanned. I don't recall what the exact code was, but the description was something to the effect of "Cooling System Performance." I hadn't noticed that the engine temp was any different than it had ever been, so we kinda figured it was just a bad sensor. We popped the hood just to take a look at things, but he didn't really notice that anything was off. I thought the engine sounded a little difference. It wasn't idling rough, but there was a very subtle ticking noise. He didn't think anything of it. So he cleared the code, and sent me on my way.
The code came back a few days later, but disappeared about a week ago. Since then, however, my .:R has been feeling a little different. Like I'm losing torque. The ticking noise has become distinctly louder, although I can only hear it when I pop the hood. Last night, i was listening to it, and there are two separate noises, coming from two different locations. One is coming from the left side of the engine, most likely from one of the belts. The other is the one that worries me the most, as it's quite a bit louder. This ticking noise seems to be coming from the engine itself. The longer I let the car idle, the louder it gets.
One of my friends took a listen, and he suggested that it could be a blown piston ring. This would explain why I'm losing torque, but I haven't noticed any blue smoke coming from my exhaust.

Golf V R32 :: Strange Popping Noise While Driving On Highway
While driving at about 80mph today the rear of my R started popping. Felt like I had a flat tire. It stopped and started again. Once I got off the freeway it started to sound like I was dragging a muffler. I pulled over and everything looked fine. I drove home with a screeching/grinding type noise. You can also hear it when I put it in reverse. What is this? Is it ok to drive it to the dealership about 20 miles away?

The engine of our 2003 Camry (4 cylinder, automatic) is making a loud rumbling noise when stationary, both in drive and in park. The rumbling can be heard and felt, especially via the brake pad, and it persists when the car is driving at below highway speeds.
View 2 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: 2012 - Left Rear Stationary Window Leaking From The Inside
Just picked up my 2012 2dr. GTI. My first wash and I noticed the left rear stationary window leaking from the inside. ( not impressed ). It is going back to be fixed under warranty but wonder if the seal and window are one or two piece and what is involved in this repair? Hopefully the person doing it has done it before and not using a tube of silicone to repair it. What to expect for a proper repair.
View 9 RepliesGolf V R32 :: Turning From P To Reverse Is Rough / Strange Grinding Noise
So with the temps on the east coast being sub 17 degrees, I noticed my car acting up on cold start and all the way until the car is at operating temp.
1 -- Going from P to Reverse is rough! I allow the car to "break free" sort of speak, before I actually give it gas in reverse and once I give it gas the car bucks violently a couple times and seems to not want to actually reverse... Issue is gone after driving the car and letting it warm up.
2 -- Again right after cold start and until operating temp - Shifting in either D mode or Paddle mode going from 1st to 2nd creates a strange "grinding" noise (I will try to get a video clip of it). The sound is very similar to that of a MK 4 starter beginning to go bad, but not as loud. It only ever happened going into 2nd gear from 1st gear. Once the car was up to operating temp and driven around the sound did not occur. Even after starting the car up again after letting it sit for an hour or two it was okay.
Both things occur on cold start up with the car sitting for roughly 8-10 hours.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 - Strange Whining Noise On Start Up
This noise happens usually on the first startup of the day, but it can happen at least 2 or 3 times a day randomly. I am not great with cars but if i had to guess it sounds like a belt is to tight or its a electrical problem but i have no clue. I attached a video of the noise for better in site. Apart from all the looks i get when i start my car up I'm just afraid my engine is gonna blow up on me randomly. The car is a 2000 vw golf automatic.
View 7 RepliesGolf - Volkswagen :: Engine Died After Making Strange Noise
After coming down a mountain pass my engine started making a weird sound and then died. I am told that it was because I was in too low a gear for the speed I was going (I was using the triptronic or whatever it is called to stay in a lower gear coming down the pass). I had clean and ample oil and no warning lights came on and there are 98,000 miles on it. Does this cause make sense? I have been reading in other discussions that many cars have crank shaft sensors, do VW cars have this? VW Golf 2005 TDI .....
