Golf/GTI VI :: Rubbing / Humming Sound Occurs Below 10MPH And Increases Above 60MPH

So I have a 2014 VW GTI 4DR 6speed with 25,000 miles on her now and I am getting this weird noise from what i believe is the front end right wheel?

The noise is similar to a rubbing / humming sound that occurs below 10MPH and then increases with repetition at say above 60MPH. I notice a little harder of a rubbing when wheel is turned at say when i pull out from a stop sign!

ALL that i have done was put on hubcentric spacers and that i pulled off to see if noise stopped but it didn't! Could the supplied bolts be to long? I had removed dust caps on rear for clean fitment and sanded any imperfections on all hubs.

The noise isn't loud at all but is definitely noticeable with radio off and windows up!

Could this be a wheel balance issue? Tie rod or arm? Bent RIM?

Golf IV R32 :: Loud Humming Sound In Trunk

I am hearing this buzzing sound in my trunk its really loud for ex: those annoying sounds people played as kids that people over "18" cant hear...back to the point its by my rear left tail light inside that area where all the wiring is also kinda hear it where the spare tire is all my lights work I unplugged the light and it still made the sound! It only does it when the car is running. Car is stock aside that it has no radio and the cd changer in the area that noise is coming from idk if its because a few wires that connect to the cd changer or what ever it is are unplugged but its coming from that area of the car its really high pitch and annoying.

Ford :: Rubbing / Humming Sound Near Front Of Car While Driving

While I drive I am experiencing a rubbing or humming sound near the front of the car. The sound is there at all times when the car is moving but seems to lessen when turning in either direction. The faster the car goes the faster the hum. Pressing the brake or accelerator only slows or quickens the humming but doesn't change the intensity. The car is a '96 Ford Taurus that I have owned for less than a year. The issue has only been occurring for two or three months.

Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Humming / Rubbing Sound When Turning Right

I have a 2004 F-150 STX 2WD with a 2.5" leveling kit on it. I recently have noticed a rubbing sound that can be felt in the steering wheel and gas pedal the instant you turn right. I just replaced both hub assemblies and I just really don't know what it could be. It doesn't happen when you turn left or go straight and there should be no reason as to why my tires rub, because they haven't before. I got my truck aligned and they checked my joints and everything and said that it was fine....

Golf/GTI VI :: Loud Metallic Scraping Sound From Rear Brakes

I had a super loud metallic scraping and clanking noise when I was backing out of my driveway the other night. It was so loud I though my exhaust was dragging or something.

It turned out to be a rock trapped between the heat shield and rear brake disk. I pressed the heat shield away from the disk a bit and the rock fell out. It's kind of crazy that such a little rock caused such a loud sound.

Lexus GS 2006-11 :: Brakes Makes Loud Humming Noise When Pressed

2007 GS 350. In the past 6 months i have changed my FRONT brake pads with two different pair. First was a generic pad(REMOVED), and did some research then went for Akebono(CURRENTLY) brake pads 2-months noise-free and now back to braking noise dilemma.

Issues:
-In the morning, first 3-5 pressed brakes makes loud(REALLY LOUD!) humming noise then goes away. Feels like the brakes are rusty but it continually does it everyday. I just got the car serviced so assuming all my fluids are filled.
-Randomly, on a fully stopped brake i hear a whistle noise from the front brake. NOT as loud described above.
-I noticed the noise happened the most on HOT weather, and occasionally on COLD weather.

Longo Lexus advice me to buy an OEM brake pads and should resolve this problem. I'm also thinking of just getting it done at the dealership and pay that extra cash plus warranty.

Alero :: 2003 - Loud Humming Sound At 40 MPH+?

Our car is a 2003 2.2L 4 Door. 132,000 miles.

About 3 days ago it started doing this thing where once we hit somewhere between 30-40 mph, it started making a low pitch humming sound. At 40 MPH+ it is very loud. To me it sounds like an airplane, I don't know how else to explain it. There is no shaking, though sometimes I can almost feel the vibration from the humming at my feet. My husband says that the higher the RPM's, the louder and slightly higher pitched the sound is. If we go below 30 MPH it stops.

We were a little late on our oil change and I assumed that was it, but got it changed today and it's still doing it. Other than that, about 2 and a half weeks ago, our rear driver side tire went flat. My husband was in the middle of no where on the way home from work so he used Slime and that fixed it (never went to get it repaired because we didn't have the time and it didn't go flat again).

Could it be that the tires are not balanced correctly because of that, and it is causing the humming?

Also, this may be completely unrelated but: The only other problem we have had/still have with the car is that about 2 years ago we drove from Texas to Nevada, and at one of our stops the coolant dumped out (did not overheat/no other issues). Took it to 2 different shops and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. Drove fine until 6 months ago driving from Nevada to New Mexico, it did it again, but this time it also overheated. The mechanic said it was the water pump. Replacing the water pump (which is expensive!) did not fix it, so without consulting us they also changed the thermostat. Charged us for both, told us it was fixed, and about 2 month ago it did it again, but did not overheat/no other issues again. Hasn't done it since...seems it only happens on long drives. Anyway, I don't think it's related, but I thought I'd mention it.

Subaru - Outback :: Loud Low Humming Sound

This is a question about a Subaru Outback, but probably pertains to many other cars as well. I have a 2006 Subaru Outback with 112K miles. I bought new tires for it in May 2012, and in September 2013 I started to notice a low humming/buzzing sound while driving. I looked online and came up with 2 options - either the wheel bearings or the tires. Because the sound changed pitch depending on the road surface, I thought it must be the tires. I took it in for an oil change and had the mechanics check the bearings. They said the bearings were fine, but the tires were cupping and feathering badly because I hadn't rotated them, and that was the source of the noise.

I had them rotate the tires and do an alignment and went on my way. The sound slowly got worse - it peaks at ~65 MPH and then changes pitch above 70 MPH and is not so bothersome - and I started to lose gas mileage ( 4-5 MPG). On Dec. 30, 2013 I took it in for the next oil change and bought brand new tires - Bridgestone Turanza Serenity designed for quietness - and had them do an alignment, and drove away only to find that the noise is still there and I still have lousy gas mileage.

My next thoughts were the transmission or the catalytic converter, but since the noise doesn't change when I take my foot off the gas or put it in neutral I don't think it is either one of those. The alignment showed that the Caster on both front tires is off, but since both tires are off by roughly equal amounts I was told that this is not something to worry about. I do occasionally notice some vibration while driving or while idling, but it is intermittent and I don't think it has anything to do with the noise.

Aurora :: 2001 - Rubbing Sound From Rear When Brakes Are Applied

I have recently had the rear brakes on 2001 Aurora replaced. When car is driven about 20 minutes, there is a rubbing sound from the rear when the brakes are applied. I have taken the car back to the shop and they said for some reason the new pads were worn and put new pads on thinking it was bad pads. The noise continues. Is there anything special that must be done on this car when the rear brakes are serviced? Are there special type of brake pads that must be used for rear disc brakes? I am just going to sell the car if I can't figure out how to fix this problem soon.

Chrysler - Concorde :: 1995 - Brakes Making Rubbing Sound

All of a sudden, the brakes (rear) are making a rubbing sound. Could it somehow be caused by dust? The car is parked on the street and it's been VERY dry here lately. When I used the car a few days ago, they sounded fine. Reason to bring it to our mechanic or not? It's a 1995 Chrysler Concorde.

Ford - Focus :: 2011 - Loud Humming Sound From Engine?

After I took my Ford Focus 2011 to the dealership for a free oil change I noticed a subtle, low hum coming from the car when I hit speeds past 40mph. At first it sounded like the engine of a louder car driving near me so it took me a couple days to realize that it was actually my car making the noise. I intended to bring the car right back to the dealership to complain about this but I kept getting preoccupied with my studies for my summer courses. It's been roughly 3 weeks now and the low hum has gotten a lot louder now and can be heard over music.

The noise begins when I approach 40mph. The noise is probably at its loudest at speeds of 40mph-70mph. The noise is made even when I am not stepping on the accelerator or using the breaks. I haven't tried putting the car in neutral at those speeds. What might be causing that noise? Although I don't really trust the dealership since my car seems to manifest a new problem after each visit.

Ford F-150 - 1997-2003 :: Rubbing Sound At Front End Only Audible When Brakes Applied

I have a 2001 f150 4x4 5.4 Liter 72000 miles. There is a rubbing sound that is only audible when the brakes are applied. And only when applied with light pressure. The noise will continue intermittently until you come to a complete stop. If the brake is applied aggressively there is no sound at all. I am not sure if it is a brake issue or some thing in the front end that is flexing when slowing down.

Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Loud Humming Sound At The Rear When Reaches At 40 Mph

I bought a used 2010 corolla and notice a loud humming sound at the rear when it reaches 40 mph. I figured it was the rear hub bearing assembly. I already bought a pair of Beck/Arnley 051-6262 hub assembly. I found two threads here about the removal/installation but did not say the torque of the 4 bolts behind the hub assembly. I read on the Toyota Manual that it is 74 ft-lbs. Do you think that this is too tight for a 10 mm back plate. The wheel/rims bolt torque is 76 ft-lbs but the nut is about an inch length. It is almost the same torque for an inch nut compared to 10 mm back plate. Is 74 ft-lbs right especially for an aftermarket beck/arnley brand? On the Toyota Manual, the 2003-2008 Corolla 4 bolt torque is 45 ft-lbs. The 2010 is 74 ft-lbs???

Elantra MD (2010-15) :: Loud Rubbing / Grinding Sound From Front Wheel Area While Turning

Early this week my car started making a loud knocking/rubbing sound (Kind of in between when your brakes are ground down to the rotor and a knocking pattern).

FIRST, it started only when I turned slightly left or left.... NOW, it's doing it as I go straight and when I turn to the right as well... oddly enough it's not as bad when going left anymore...

What this could be?? And if it's an easy DIY fix..... (maybe a link on how) and how much the part(s) might be?? I've taken video (for sound as I drive)...but not sure if I can upload it (size limit).

Sonata I45 (YF - 2011+) :: Loud Humming Sound Like Compressor Or Something Kicking On And Not Fully Engaging

I took my car in to get this checked out, but they say they can't hear it.

Sometimes when I turn my car on right after I turn it on, there's a loud humming sound like a compressor or something is kicking on and it's not fully engaging. And it only makes the sound for maybe 3-5 secs. Sometimes it won't happen when I turn the car on, but when I'm driving and I let off the gas and go to touch the brakes, it'll start.

The best I can describe it is a 'hum'...but it's loud, and I can feel it as if it's near the gas pedal right behind the firewall.

Dealer thought maybe it was the ABS switch testing itself..but they could never reproduce....I got in after they replaced my rims and checked it...and it did it 4 times when I started it, then turned it off. He came out to check, and it was almost as if you couldnt hear it outside of the car.

So, what the sound might be...I can't reproduce it anytime I'm there. Figures...... but I hear it almost daily. He put some foam tape on the firewall behind the gas lines saying the 'pulsing' from them might be doing it...but it did it again this morning.

Golf IV / Jetta IV :: 2003 - Brakes Rubbing After Suspension Job?

I've got an 03 Jetta TDI 5-speed with 210k. I just replaced tie rod ends, ball joints, struts, shocks, springs, and bushings/bearings on the front.

After I took the car off the jack stands, I tried to reverse and the car is held in place pretty firmly. I gave it a bit of gas and it sounded like the brakes were rubbing. The brakes feel a little soft.

I checked the wheel clearance (I didn't lower the car) and everything looks fine. Did I pinch a brake line or something?
