Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Clunking / Rubbing Sound On Right Passenger Side Especially When Turning Left
I have the most terrible clunking/rubbing sound on my right passenger side, especially when I'm turning left. When I drive straight it sounds like the wheel is hopping even when going over minuscule imperfections in the road. I also get a terrible rub when going over speed bumps or into grooves and dips in the road.
I've searched and searched but cannot come up with a answer towards rectifying the issue. My car hasn't been lowered; I'm running the stop 337 suspension. I've replaced the following within the past two years:
-control arm bushings
-ball joints
-tie rod ends
-upper strut bushings and bearings
-passenger side axle
-dog bone mount
-engine mount
-tranny mount
Most recently:
-front struts
-sway bar end-links
-driver's side axle
It seems to like everything should be solid considering I've done all of this crap. I don't understand why I'm having this issue and why it sounds like it is getting worse and worse.
Corolla / Matrix 2009-13 :: Clunking / Popping Noise When Turning And Accelerating Left
Have a 2010 Corolla, 42k miles, from a dead stop, turn left under power with wheel about 90% of one full turn, get a clunking popping clicking noise from the front end -- I cannot tell if from the left or right side -- I've been in the back seat too, and cannot determine if the noise is coming from the left or right side up front. I've had the car since 34k miles, has been making this sound ever since, not sure if its gotten worse, if it has, maybe just a little.
No noise if turning while NOT under power (coasting). No noise if turning to the right. No noise while driving in a straight line or veering left at a higher speed. Also, I tried to recreate this noise from a dead stop, turning going in reverse, both left and right, and no noise ever.
If in a parking lot, from a dead start, turn wheel left almost one full turn, accelerating slowly I can get the car to make this sound continuously (until I start going too fast beyond my comfort zone).
Have looked under car jacked up several times, nothing obvious. CV axles have minimal play and the boots are in great shape. Suspension parts appear ok.
My gut tells me could be a CV axle, but not certain, and I don't know which side..... something else that could cause this ?
Subaru - Outback :: Clunking Sound Only When Accelerating - What Could It Be
My 1999 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport recently got new tires. After, I really started to notice clunking noises when accelerating, but they would stop when the brakes were pressed. It is sometimes loud, other times it may be harder to hear. My dad says the car has been doing it for a while now. When I first got the car in 2011, I remember the car would creak repeatedly when slowing down, but it had to be the right circumstances for the vehicle to be noisy when coming to a stop. Now it does the clunking noise (gets faster as the car goes faster) only when accelerating, does not creak or make noise when turning.

When accelerating from a stop, I get a clunking sound from the front end. I took some pics of the sway bar and I think it maybe loose. There is a gap between the bolt between the bar. Is this normal, or can I tighten it with the X on the ground or does it have to be up on a lift to properly tighten?
View 14 RepliesFord F-150 (2004-2008) :: 2005 - Clunking Sound When Accelerating From A Dead Stop
Bought an 05 FX4 SuperCab in May - been in shop twice for a "clunking" sound when accelerating from a dead stop. Dealer says it's "operating as intended" and that no damage was being if I continue to drive. I thought it was a rear problem with the limited slip. Dealer says it's the tranny and that Ford is looking into the problem (apparently quite a few are coming back). She runs smooth and shifts fine once she gets going. Just starting from a complete stop feels painfully wrong.
View 14 RepliesCamry :: 2009 - Clunking Sound When Turning Steering Wheel
So my 09' Camry now has 130K KMs on it and for the last few months I've had an issue where when I turn the steering wheel (at rest and while moving) there is a clunking sound and feel in the steering wheel at various spots in the steering wheel rotation.
I'm worried the u-joints (if it uses them) in the steering column are worn out and might need replacing/lubricating but I'm not sure how to address the issue without an expensive Out of warranty visit to the dealer.
Ford F-150 (2004-2008) :: Clunking Sound While Turning Slightly
Recently when I leave my driveway which only has a slight grade to it my truck makes a clunking sound when I hit the gutter and while turning slightly. Also my front drive line from transfer case to front axle has some play in it. I can rotate the front drive line about 3/4" to an 1" while parked in the driveway. Changing u joints. I figured this would be a good starting point. 2005 XLT 4x4 5.4L F150.

Just bought an 05 yesterday. It has 193k. The steering seems to have some play and an occasional clunking sound when turning the wheel. I do not know of a dealer or an independent shop that will give me an honest opinion or quote..
View 2 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: During Accelerating And Braking Clunking Happening
Clunking happening when accelerating and braking, but is not noticeable if I shift without too much kick between 1st and 2nd. Clunking is heard right under my feet and sounds like its dead center in the car. Some slight metal scraping sound can be heard like a bolt is loose (none found).
Replaced: Tie rod assembly, both axles, doggone mount, struts, strut mounts, strut bearings, sway bar bushings.
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Front End Clunking When Side When Accelerating / Decelerating
I am currently having a clunking noise coming from the front driver's side when accelerating from a stop or decelerating to a stop. It seems to happen only at low speeds and only on the driver's side. No strange vibrations or noise when turning or when going over bumps. I am thinking strut mounts or possibly trans mount.

Reversing into the garage tonight and adjusting the steering slightly back and forth (between quarter to and five to the hour) i head a 'clunk, clunk, clunk'.....did it the other way - same noise... Drove forward at very low speed and did same turn slightly either way...heard same clunking noises....
View 19 RepliesGolf/GTI VII :: Engine Lugging Noise At 40 - 50 MPH In D Mode Fully Automatic
Mk7 GTI DSG is very uncomfortable to drive at speed between 40-50 Mph in "D" Mode. You can very clearly feel/hear Engine Lugging/Clutch slippage noise because the DSG slips in to 6th gear and the RPM goes below 1200. the noise become more pronounced if it is going up the hill or the A/C unit is on. The throttle response becomes really really slow. Clearly it is not in the right gear, use the paddle shifter to go down one notch it will be ok. So VW gives you two choices , drive like a maniac in DSG-S mode or drive like severely handicapped two legged tortoise.
It goes away if you are above and below the 40-50 mph range. Why would VW design a power train with such a serious flaw I cannot understand, considering all the small roads in USA force you to drive at that speed range. I did contact VW about this and the response is " it is as designed to improve MPG". Also every GTI reviewer in North America never mentions any of this. I just dont know what they review/Test drive, All are bunch of lap dogs and paid trolls of VW. How do i fix this annoying problem, I am afraid that this will damage the Engine/Clutch pack in the long run.
Golf V R32 :: 2008 - Clunking Sound In Reverse?
I just purchased an '08 R32 in deep blue pearl .
Definitely very excited about the new ride BUT the car makes a pretty disconcerting "clunk" when I start backing out in reverse. I did have my local VW dealer do a full inspection and the previous owner was pretty OCD about maintenance.
The DSG and fuel service recalls were completed and the haldex & diff fluids changed a couple thousand miles back. What might be causing this? Car has 56k miles on it but otherwise seems really well maintained. Drives really well outside of that ... guess I should've done more reversing during my test drive.

View 4 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: 2010 - Clunking Sound In Engine
My 2010 Golf TDI 2.0 is currently at the dealership where they are attempting to diagnose this engine sound. They have had it two days and they can not get it to replicate the sound. (Imagine that!!!!). I have shared this video with the service manager however. I have 3000 miles on it now in just over one month old. I would estimate that my car has made this sound on 5 separate occasions and it only does this on the very first start-up of the day after it has sat for atleast 8-10 hours. Outdoor temperature has ranged in 40-50F.
Whenever this happens, it starts acting up within the first 30 seconds and completely disappears withing 2 minutes. The engine actually jerks laterally on each clunk, but the tachometer does not fluctuate when it is going thru this episode and no warning lights come on. Also, if I "give it gas" while it is going thru this episode, it goes away and in no way affects the smoothness of the increased RPM's. I have varied my fuel-up locations and I always wait atleast 2 seconds to ignite the engine after the glow-plug light goes out.

Golf/GTI VII :: Clunking Sound From DSG When Cold - Is It Normal
Ever since the temperature has started dropping (<0C/32F), I have noticed that the DSG on my GTI makes sort a "clunk" noise maybe half a second after shifting. It mostly happens when up-shifting and especially when shifting from second to third gear. The noise completely goes away after the car has warmed up (about 10 minutes), so I think it may be normal.
View 1 RepliesGolf IV R32 :: FSB Making Clunking Sound At Low Speeds
My FSB is making some clunking noises. Literally sounds like metal on metal banging. Im thinking its the FSB bushings. I just put the bar in about 4-5 months ago, not sure how the bushings could be shot already. The car only makes these noises at low speeds. On the highway i dont hear a thing. I installed the bar myself, so i know there is very little room for play.
View 5 RepliesGolf IV R32 :: Clunking Sound From Right Front Suspension When Going Over Bumps
I have a clunking noise from the right front suspension when going over bumps. I've replaced the Strut bushings that were collapsed, the control arm bushings that had play and the noise is still there. There is no play in the links. There is a slight noise in the sway bar bushings when struck with a rubber mallet. I hate to keep replacing parts chasing down this noise.
View 9 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: 2012 - Rear Popping / Clunking Sound
I have a 2012 GT lowered on st coil overs. I'm getting a popping/clunking sound coming from the rear. It happens at random times. In turns, going over bumps, straight, and on flat surfaces. I thought it might be the dreaded subframe clunk so I got the Tyrol sport deadset rigid kit and that didn't work. I have tried raising and lowering the car with the coil over adjustments and it makes the noise still. I have also taken the rear coil overs completely off two times to inspect them and all mounts both times using new bolts and retorqued to spec. Also while i had them off I have jerked and pushed on everything they are attached to see if there is any play in anything. I see no signs of anything bumping or rubbing under the back end and the sound is getting worse.
