Chevrolet - Tahoe :: 2006 - Suddenly Lose Power Without Warning
Our 2006 Chevy Tahoe will at times while running the speed limit (or slightly above) will suddenly without warning lose power. All the gauges remain in good ranges. This will happen without warning and not on a regular basis - sometimes going six months without happening and then happen three times within thirty minutes. The stability system warning message comes on as does the check engine light. Also the traction control warning light comes on. We can pull to the side of the road, turn the engine off for a few seconds and then it will start up again and run well with only the check engine light on. When this happens, the rpms will drop and go under 1500 and the engine will still be running, just without power.
View 2 RepliesGrand Prix :: 1995 Suddenly Lose Power While Driving And Die Completely
My daughter has a 1995 Grand Prix - 3.1. The car has an intermittent problem that can go 2-3 weeks in between occurrences.
It runs like a top, but will suddenly lose power while driving and die completely. After a while it'll be fine. (starts up again.)
The lights will flicker and give a bit of warning before it dies. I had both crankshaft sensors replaced a month ago and I though that would do the trick.
IS F (2008-2014) :: Car Started To Lose Power During Nitrous Pass
Was doing nitrous passes the other day and all of a sudden the car started to lose power. I let off the gas and the rpm's got lower and lower, until I cut the car off. Let the car sit for a bit and tried to restart. Car will turn over but will not start. Threw two odes p0300 random misfire, and p0101 mass or volume air flow circuit range/performance problem. I also smelled slight burning for just a second. I am thinking it has to be MAF or a burned up plug. Has to be air, spark or fuel related. Any of the nitrous guys out there ever run into anything like this? Want to eliminate the small things first. Hoping there isn't a larger issue.
View 14 RepliesMazda - Mazda2 :: 2011 - Car Started To Lose Power And Then Stalled Out
I have a 2011 Mazda 2, 1.5L w/automatic trans. The car only has 1800 miles on it. The other day i was driving it when the car started to lose power and then stalled out. I coasted to a stop. When I tried to restart the car it idled roughly and only in the 200-300rpm range. When I put in gear it would stall out. I let it sit for about 15 minutes and then was able to restart the car with no issue. Since then I put on another 40 miles with no problem.
Before the car stalled I had driven it for about 30 miles with the first 15 miles on the interstate. It was 100+ degrees outside and I was running the air. I have taken the car to the Mazda dealer but I am concerned that they will not be able to locate the problem since now the car seems to be running fine. What could be causing this problem?
Ford 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: 2001 F350 - SES Light Came On / Truck Started Running Rough And Lose Power
I have a 2001 F350, 7.3. My service engine light came on and immediately the truck started to run rough and lose some power. I've checked the under the cover connections and they were both connected, I replaced the cam position sensor and I still have the same problem. The worse part of the hold thing is that there are no codes stored so I'm flying bind. Where to go next.

I have a 06 sonata v6 with 120k. Today while driving the car started to lose power then the lights on the dash board flickered radio went nuts and the car lost all power. What could be causing this? Moved battery a little bit and got power back but then started driving and it did the same thing. I did have the heater on 2. You can feel it lose power while accelerating.

View 4 RepliesDodge - Caravan :: 1986 - Car Started To Lose Power On Highway With A Loud Screeching Noise
Very loud timing chain noise in my Mitsubishi 2.6 engine. It has 105k miles on it. I ordered a new complete timing chain kit and oil pump from an online autoparts store. The parts arrived here and scheduled an appointment to have those parts put in today. While driving the van to the repair shop, it broke down about 4 miles from my house. I started to lose power on the highway then a loud screeching noise, similar sound to a belt going bad or slipping. The temp gauge started to climb rapidly. I immediately shut off the van and pulled over. It was towed back home and wouldn't restart. Battery was weak. I charged the battery for three hours and the van started again. This time it runs incredibly rough. The whole van shakes badly when in gear (also the loud timing chain noise). I also noticed an oil leak on the ground on the passenger side, in the area of the timing chain/oil pump area.
View 1 RepliesMercedes :: 2001 E320 Seems To Lose Acceleration Suddenly And Unpredictably
We have a 2001 E320 4-Matic. Recently, it has developed a serious problem. Every now and then, when I come to a stop (e.g., at a red light), the car would shake/vibrate significantly. Even more importantly, the car seems to lose acceleration suddenly and unpredictably (not necessarily correlated with vibration at the stop). The latter problem goes away "for the moment" by switching off the engine and then restarting it. The Check Engine light has come on as well. The codes that are diagnosed are P2001, P2003, P200F, P2082, P2050, P20151, P2055, and P2053.
While there are several issues with the car, I am most concerned now with the two issues I highlighted above - sudden loss of acceleration and the vibration while stopped (both happening unpredictably). I took the car to two mechanics. The two mechanics seem to sharply differ on how to resolve the "sudden and unpredictable loss of acceleration" issue. One mechanic (Mercedes dealer) attributes the problem to issues with EGR valve and claims replacing that will fix the problem. The other mechanic attributes the problem to the Catalytic Converter which he says is broken and is causing sudden loss of acceleration (and yes, there was a rattle some time ago). The second mechanic does not disagree that the EGR valve (and the secondary air injection system) has issues but he says it is the Catalytic Converter which is causing the core problem of sudden loss of acceleration (and yes, there was a rattle some time ago).
Dodge - Durango :: 2001 - Battery Suddenly Began To Lose Its Charge
I have a 2001 Durango. My one year old battery suddenly began to lose its charge last month if the car sat for two or more days. A local repair shop determined the alternator was okay, but the battery was bad. The parts store agreed and replaced the battery under warranty.
A week later the new battery also went dead after the car had been parked for two days. I then took it to a Dodge dealership that kept it for over a week, but couldn’t find anything wrong. Even after being parked over the weekend, it started right up for them.
After getting it back home I drove it for three days. I parked it for two days, and the third morning the battery was completely dead. After charging with a trickle charger for a couple of hours the car started fine.
I bought the car new and have kept up on all the maintenance. It’s parked in my driveway the same way for over seven years with the doors locked. What’s going on?
Golf IV / Jetta IV :: Gear Changes Started Clunking Really Rough Suddenly
I have a 2001 mk4 golf 1.8T, tonight I was driving and all of the sudden the gear changes started clunking really rough ( it's an automatic) and then it would pulse for power only give it to me at random not when I gave it gas, coming to the next stop sign I pushed the accelerator to go and for the first 3 seconds nothing happened until it jumped in revs spinning tires and shooting me forward, so I shut off all the electronics in my car which seemed to work with the not getting power issue but when I finally got to where I was going it now won't turn over, you turn the key you hear the starter try but that's it it just won't turn over, there's no check engine light and I already have a call into my mechanic.
View 7 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: 1995 Volkswagen Started Bucking And Shuddering Suddenly
I'm a broke grad student with a 1995 Jetta. I've had it about four years, and it's mostly been all right. Granted, it's mostly held together with luck at this point--my dad's a former mechanic, and he did a fair bit of work on it before I moved a thousand miles away. The other day on my way to work, the car started bucking and shuddering, especially when I first started moving. I was very nearly out of gas, and I thought that might be the problem. I put some in and things got almost totally better almost immediately. Tonight, the car tries to start, but it won't catch. My dad thinks I have water in my tank. Would that do this?
View 5 RepliesGolf/GTI VI :: 2011 - Fuel Starvation - Sputters And Lose Power On Turns
I use my 2011 GTI for track days and have done hundreds of laps with no issues. Yesterday, I got out on the track for the first session and almost immediately I got what has to be fuel starvation on long right-hand high speed turns. The car sputtered and lost power exiting the turn and would return to normal once it got going straight again. The only way I could avoid it was to feather the throttle, which of course doesn't do much for lap times. At that point the tank was about half full, so between sessions I filled it up. With the tank full, there was no problem, but it returned when the tank got down to about 3/4. I filled it up again, and once more it was fine for a while, but the problem returned, this time with about 7/8 of a tank, so I gave up. I drove home (about 100 miles) with no trouble at all.
I know that the fuel pick up is on the right side, so it makes sense that the problem would occur on long right-hand turns. Is it possible that the in-tank pump is getting weak, or that maybe something happened to the baffles in the tank? I have another track day in a month, so I need to get to the bottom of this.
Golf IV R32 :: Burning Smell / Lose Any Power And No Check Engine Light Came On
Ok my R is all stock 59k miles. This morning I was getting on the freeway and some AMG hold was on my ass so I floored it and accidentally hit the rev limiter. After that It smelt almost like burnt rubber in the car. I rolled the windows down and the smell went away in about ten min. I didn't lose any power and no check engine light came on. When I got to work I got out and looked under, no fluids leaking. But the smell was still there. I'm gonna look at it more after I get home from work.

View 2 RepliesFord 6.0L Power Stroke Diesel :: Coolant Started Spraying Up On The Windshield Suddenly
I was out for a short drive this evening and got on it just a little bit to hear that wonderful 6.0 sound and all of a sudden coolant started spraying up on the windshield like I was spraying it from the windshield wipers! My first thought was oh crap I've got a blown head gasket and it puking from my degas bottle. I had a short drive to the house so I eased it on home. My ECT got to 226 with the fan roaring but not cooling it down, luckily it never got over 226. When I got home I opened the hood expecting to see where a bunch of coolant had puked from the degas but instead I saw this. What could cause the radiator to rupture like that? I did spend a good amount of time on my knees on top of the radiator while changing out my oil cooler the first time, then again when I installed my BPD oil cooler. Also I posted in another thread a few days ago about my ECT temps being a little higher than normal, reckon my radiator was clogged and that caused the higher temps and the rupture?
View 8 RepliesFord 7.3L Power Stroke (1999-2003) :: 2002 - Motor Suddenly Started Shuttering And Then Shut Off - No Start
I am fairly new to powerstrokes, but have a general understanding how the 7.3l operates, and how the fuel system works.
The problem i am experiencing is a crank, no start. The truck has been great for the year and a half that i have owned it. Always cranked great and never any starting or running issues. One day upon cranking, i started the motor; it started normal running good for a minute until the motor suddenly started shuttering and then the motor shut off, happened rather quickly. The truck started up immediately after that and died....repeating the shutter until dead. Now the truck will not start.
Specs on truck:
2002 7.3l
230,000 miles
Manual transmission
Here's what i have replaced so far:
New parts include:
IPR (motorcraft)
ICP (motorcraft)
EBPV (napa)
CPS (napa)
IDM (reman)
Here are some of the diagnostic values i have collected during cranking: (FYI: i am a little confused on what the values mean and what they should be in order for the motor to start):
ICP: 2218 psi
ICP duty cycle: 41%
EBP: 265 kpa
battery voltage: 12.0
Rpm: 355
Things i have checked so far:
Oil is new and level is good.
WTS light cycles as normal.
Fuel bowl is full and over flows with cap off while cranking.
Fuel tank is above half.
Glow plug relay is good.
I was throwing a code for the PCM, but i removed the bully dog tuner and the code has since cleared.
HPOP oil is an inch below full.
I made a gauge set and dead headed HPOP yielding 1500psi.
Upon cranking i am seeing some smoke, i guess, but its kind of hard to tell from the drivers seat.
This is where i am at so far. I don't have a way to buzz test the injectors or tell if they are leaking past the orings. I have the valve covers removed, but i have been putting off pulling the injectors to replace the orings.
