Touareg :: Steering Wheel Squeak / Creak When Turn It
Steering wheel that squeaks or creaks when you turn it? It's not very loud but getting annoying...
View 2 RepliesPassat (B5) :: Power Steering Making Loud Squeal And Groan When Turn The Wheel
I picked up a '99 Passat 2.8 GLX tonight and the steering is making a loud squeal and groan when I turn the steering wheel. I checked the fluid and it's brown. I've owned a lot of VW's and Audi's and I've never seen brown fluid in one. I checked for a leak but there's so much oil everywhere from where the previous owner just had the cam seals, timing belt, water pump, and a bunch of other stuff changed. The level looks good, but it's just nasty and loud.

View 2 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Popping Noise When Turn Steering Wheel While Car Parked
Ok a week ago i noticed a popping noise when i would turn my steering wheel while the car was parked. It sounded and felt like it was coming from the drivers side.
Now a week later i have a weird constant whirring/growling noise coming from the drivers side wheel area. Which only stops when I stop completely or take a right hand turn.
So I think its a wheel bearing due to the fact it stops when I turn right, but thats why im here im not totally sure.

View 2 RepliesPhaeton :: Right Front Groan And Creak When Going Over Bumps
Got my Phaeton in the shop for a right front groan and creak when going over bumps. I assumed it was a bad strut, but the Phaeton tech is coming back with a "busted upper link" finding. Extended warranty inspector is coming out to, um, inspect. Service adviser and Phaeton tech think all four links need to be replaced, not just the right front one and will be advising the inspector as such. We'll see. Meanwhile, looking for a picture of an upper link available so that I can see what is being talked about here?
View 24 RepliesSanta Fe (DM - 2013+) :: Occasional Groan Or Creak But Only In Harshest Ride Situations
So far, I am very impressed with the ride and body tightness of my new Santa Fe. I do hear an occasional groan, or creak, but only in the harshest ride situations. Is this a normal characteristic of this vehicle, or am I just lucky? Of course, the ride is different from my Genesis, but the comfort is not a letdown in any way. I'm just hoping that this comfort will continue in the Santa Fe and not deteriorate with time.
View 1 RepliesOldsmobile - Cutlass :: 1992 - Small Roar When Turn The Steering Wheel Slightly Left At All
I have a 1992 Olds Cutlass Ciera S. Just fixed it running with a tuneup, but now I noticed that when I turn the steering wheel slightly left at all, I get a sort of small roar and it may just be me but the car seems tense. It feels and sounds like a bad power steering pump, but it turns right fine, no noise or anything. I do not think it's a wheel bearing. Could this car have rack and pinion steering and that is going bad?

I have a 2012 Rav4 and I have been hearing a creaking/groaning sound coming from the front left brake when I apply it lightly. It gets worse as it heats up. It sounds exactly like the brake in this youtube video.
View 2 RepliesVolvo - V70 :: Groan In Steering Wheel When In Reverse And Turning - Slight Lag When Starting Off
2001 V70 Volvo Wagon 114k miles... The following in order has been done so far in the last 3 months mostly because the mechanic who did everything besides the mounts takes forever.
Rotors & pads
Replaced axle shaft
Oil & new air filter
Replaced steering wheel pump #1 - with new liquids
Replaced steering wheel pump #1 with #2
Replaced steering wheel pump #2 with #3
Supposedly checked the rack & pinion
New hoses for the steering wheel pump
Alternator replaced
All front, right and rear engine mounts have been replaced
I am about to literally come out of my skin with the subtle vibration that comes through the steering wheel, seat and floor on the drivers side. When I put my hand on the shifter I don't feel the vibration nor when riding on the passengers side. I have to stay that the car sounds like an old Singer sewing machine too, not the smooth engine sound that I had before all the repair work. There is also a very slight lag when starting off and a grown that comes from under the dash to the right of the steering wheel when in reverse and turning. My regular volvo mechanic says that the car is worn but I should keep it anyway.
Camry :: Creak / Knocking Noise On Turning The Steering Wheel
Recently on my gen 6 with about 68k miles I have noticed a very pronounce noise when turning the steering wheel whether the car is stationary or in motion. It makes a loud creaking/popping noise and it cant be heard from outside the car. The noise happens no matter which way I turn the steering wheel. I know Toyota has had problems with their intermediate steering shafts.
View 5 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: 2000 - Small Radiator In Front Of Passenger Wheel?
I'm not sure if my car is an R32 but it is a mkIV GTI V6. There is a small radiator in front of the front passenger wheel and air is ducted from the front air scoops into the radiator. What is it cooling? I searched for a transmission radiator but nothing came up. I can only speculate that it is to cool engine oil or transmission oil. Is that correct and if so what is it called?
View 2 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Small Leak Coming From The Lower End Of Power Steering Pressure Hose
I have a really small leak coming from the lower end of my power steering hose, it's super small, I was wondering if I could fix this by wiping it down really well and dry, and then layering it with plasti-dip. I think the leak is small/slow enough for me to get in a few good layers. Would this be an okay fix, or would the plasti-dip separate fast?
View 2 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Bad Wheel Bearing Cause Steering Wheel Shake?
I have a bad wheel bearing but on the highway my steering wheel shakes. It is only on the highway not down residential streets. I'm pretty sure it is the driver's side wheel bearing. I already balanced my wheels and everything.
View 5 RepliesJetta - Volkswagen :: 2001 - Vibration At About 60 Mph When Turn The Steering Wheel To Right
My 2001 Jetta 2.0L steering wheel vibrates at about 60+ mph and when I turn the steering wheel to the right into a turn, the vibration intensifies. I've changed and rotated my tires, but to no avail, the problem persists. I have yet to take this problem to a mechanic until I've found out what the issue actually is, as I do not want to get jerked around. I've looked around on various VW blogs, and from what I can gather, the CV joint needs to be replaced/repaired.

View 5 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: MK4 GTI Leans A Lot To Right When Let Off Steering Wheel - Out Of Alignment
My mkiv gti leans a lot to the right whenever I let off the steering wheel. I brought it to a shop and they put it up on a lift and told me that I needed a tie rod flip kit because it's lowered. Long story short, they charged me $70 to look at it for 10 minutes. Do you really need a flip kit for a car lowered on coilovers? I have several friends with lowered cars and none off them have had to do this. I'm thinking it's something else such as a bad shock but I'm no expert.
View 14 RepliesGolf IV / Jetta IV :: Steering Wheel Shifting 20 Degree To The Right
My 20th in the past 15k has received all of the following parts: driver axle, both ball joints, driver full tie rod the pass isn't OEM and feels fine, poly control arm bushings, poly sway bar bushings, fk coilovers with new mounts and bearings, and both wheel bearings, and I believe that's it.
The problem is: when you're going down the road, whether you're turning or going straight, if you give it any gas the steering wheel will shift a good 20 to the right and it'll shift the car over to the right but continue going straight. Then when any type of braking occurs, the wheel goes back to center shifting the car back to the left and continue going straight again until I apply the gas again. The steering will also shift if I hit a bump. But it's only to the right. I'm stumped as to what the problem is and its quite dangerous. Power steering is fine, no leaks.
